While driving my car would stall out causing the steering wheel to lock. i initiated the lemon law, but was offered a 2002, same model, to avoid my proceeding to arbitration hearing. wrong move on my part. i traded in the 2001 for a 2002 and have the same iginition problems ... stalls out/steering wheel locks while driving! i do not recommend buying a ford focus. this car is a horror and extremely dangerous!

After i started the car i turned on the ac unit. minutes later as i turned a corner i noticed smoke coming from under the hood, near the defroster area. i pulled the car to the side of the road got out and called the police. the smoke got thicker and then a fire started under the hood. i first noticed it as it entered the vehicle via the passenger side a/c vent. fire department spent about 25 min to put out fire. car was total loss, notified insur and dealer. insur to pay lease balance. little to no response from ford. *ak

When attempting to start vehicle, the key will stick in ignition and will not start vehicle. dealership has examined vehicle three times, and failed to remedy the problem. please provide any additional information/attachments.*ak

I have had numerous problems with my focus. about 3mo after i bought it, the transmission began to feel like it was slipping, and making a noise. i took it to the purchasing dealership, and a mechanic told me it was the torque converter. they didn't have a loaner car for me, so i made an an appointment for the following week. the next day on my way home from work, the car shut down. i called a tow truck, they took it to the closest dealership. when i called the dealership the next day, they said the fuel pump went out. they told me that the stutter i was feeling in my car was probably that. a few days later, the same problem. took it back to the selling dealership, and the shop supervisor went out with me. he said i was driving the car out of context. what he meant by that, he wouldn't elaborate, but said there is nothing wrong with my car. i have been driving it since, and the computer will fade in and out, but i won't lose engine power. my car has to have new brake pads every couple of months, new tires, and other maintenance things. at less than 40000 miles, it needed new spark plugs, and wires, which i happily bought. the dealership wanted $300, because the plugs were in the back of the motor. i went to my car, popped the hood, four spark plugs lined the top of the head cover. there was no further explanation of the attempted over charge. my car has several other problems. the positive cable on the battery, has melted back, there is a loud roar in the cab of the car, and three of the four lug nuts on the right rear tire has snapped off. the explanation for the lug nuts, was that the tire was loose, not fastened properly. but this problem occurred 3-4 mo after i bought it. the tires had not been taken off. i am to the point where i hate ford for selling me this car. i will ever buy ford again, but i love the concept of the car

While attempting to park, the vehicle took off and accelerated without any warning. the vehicle took off going through the back wall of the garage. the air bags did deploy. on another occasion, the vehicle was serviced for check engine light which was on. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and a chip was replaced. however, while driving, the vehicle accelerated out of control again up to 100 miles per hour. consumer was able to stop the vehicle by turning off the engine. dealer found throttle was stuck wide open. *tt

I just bought a used 2001 ford focus and had to pay to replace the ignition cylinder. the car only has 40,000 miles and i think that a part this expensive should last longer. i searched for other people with the same problem and found many frustrated focus owners who are having the same problem. i think this part should have a longer warranty. *ak

A/c tends to have smoke and very bad smell coming from vents, brakes constantly squeal and grind, vehicle doesn't always want to start, no pickup or stalling when stopped at lights, etc. engine makes loud grinding noices, engine also makes loud reving noises like it can't get into gear. front passanger seatbelt tightens and locks for no reason. ford manufactor notified via certified letter twice, no contact to date. waldorf ford refuses to fix saying, "if we can't find the problem, we can't fix it." both refuse to fix anymore. in last year in shop 10 times, for over 45 days, and no resolution.*ak

While driving and upon stepping on the brakes front wheels moved back three to four inches. the bushings were too small. upon turning the steering wheel left one could see the front wheels moving back. consumer stated vehicle had been to the dealer fifteen times. dealer put replacement parts five times. tires had to be changed between ten to thirteen thousand miles, and tires were under warranty for 30000 miles. also, ignition switch had been changed twice, but problem recurred. *ak

The engine light came on exactly 1 week after i bought the car. it was returned to me 2 days later and 1 week after that the light came on. both times the car stopped cut off. the dealer replaced the the main computer. i returned the vehicle in november of 2001 for the same problem. they said they fixed it and i returned again in another week same problem. this time they said there was a leak around the seal on the gas tank. they returned it to me. in february or march, i brought it back again (the engine light comes on the car cuts off). again they said it was the main computer and they replaced it and returned it to me. i have talked to a ford rep and they refuse to acknowledge there is a serious problem with this vehicle and even offered to sell me another one! this is my first and last ford!

When i bought the car they said they programmed the aut. door locks. there were none. i was told to take or leave it. the door clip is broken, tapes are chewed, brake lights failed on hwy.,complained of brakes @5k miles - down to rotor -they said it will be every 15k miles. "not our prolem." this car is a dangerous lemon. i don't want to die! fan belt is loose/needs reeplacement. my warranty is up soon. i wanted what i paid for -safety, and have a "death trap". ford says "we cannot lose any money" to me. i informedd my insurance company because i am afraid, and do not wish to be blamed for ford's poor quality workmanship. exact dates can be found. *ak (tiresize: 185/65r14) (tiresize: 185/65r14)
