I have a 2000 ford focus se single overhead cam less the 105 thousand miles 8th digit on vin is p a code came up p1233 ( fuelpump driver module offline) think this should be a recall cause the car will stall going 75 down the interstate and even in town and we have almost gotten into several crashes plus went off the road trying to get the car in the break down lane, the car will give no warning before it stalls-it'll start back up only to happen again down the road we have changed ( fuel pump and filter/ converter and o2 sensor/air flow/coolant temp sensor. this is a very high risk for crashes and deaths. we ordered a new fpdm but it's on back order till july 5th 2010 or possibly longer. *tr

I was driving my ford focus & the front coil spring broke while i was driving the front end of the car collapsed on the front tire. i was driving 65 miles and hour seconds before i fortunately slowed down to a stop...noticed a noise like a flat tire, something did not feel right just before it collapsed on the road, i again thank god, i decided to turn around to go back home & immediately upon that turn around the car collapsed. these recalls safety campaigns are risking my life, but terrifies me for my newly driving son behind the wheel. as if that is not bad enough, i now have to file this complaint also. electrical system ignition---unable to remove key....car was unable to be towed car locked up..steering everything. cost of repair was quoted from $382.00 from ford service dealer...meanwhile the huge inconvenience car parking fees..for being in a public parking lot.

Consumer stated: deffective gas tank and pump. dealer said between gas tank and gas pump the screw was warped and did not make a seal. part was plastic and manufactured that way. it has been leaking since purchase of vehicle . *ak

Car was being driven to work when engine began to hesitate and eventually stalled. due to loss of power steering, driver lost control of the car and collided with concrete median barrier. accident caused aesthetic damage to front and rear bumpers. the car was rarely driven after the accident since it would only drive for a few miles before stalling and i didn't want it to cause another accident. i couldn't afford to have the car fixed. i have recently discovered ford's recall #03n01 - fuel delivery module on the vehicle [xxx] when doing research about how to fix the problem with the car stalling. this was found on the following website: http://www.escortfocus.com/html/focus_111903.html . the recall was issued in nov. 2003 but i was never notified. i have a screen capture of the my ford vehicle home website where it lists recalls for my vehicle. i use this as my primary source for vehicle recalls and it does not and has never listed this recall. by their own admission, ford has instructed dealers to only fix this problem if the customer reports having an issue. because i did not know about the recall and wasn't having any issues before the accident, i was involved in a car accident which could have been avoided. i feel ford is responsible to repair the damage caused by the accident since it occurred due to a defect. *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

This complaint is concerning clarification of our previous complaints to nhtsa regarding the 2000 ford focus : #10104088 and #10107840. i am extremely concerned about the misinterpretation of data collected by your agency and posted for public review. deaths are not posted, nor are they included as injuries. this misrepresents the seriousness of the vehicle and equipment failures reported. *jb

Consumer noticed on numerous occasions that fuel gauge would indicate that fuel tank would be half or more filled. then, vehicle stalled. consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that fuel tank needed to be replaced. consumer informed the mechanic that fuel tank was replaced five or more times but problem recurred. *ak

I have undetermined fuel odors/leaks at the rear of my 2000 ford focus zx3.*ak

1) stalling, stuttering and or slow acceleration 2) gauges and lights inside and outside the vehicle are fluctuating as they wish. he car was taken to the dealer three times so they could diagnosis and work on the problem. 1st time there was a recall performed on the fdm (fuel delivery module). 2nd time they gave it a computer update and then all of the electrical problems began to occur. third time they sent me away saying there is not a problem. 2 weeks later with all the symptoms giving lots of problems (shuttering and stuttering, car stalled many times while traveling on the interstate etc.). finally it quit all together when electrically it blew up or shorted out somewhere. all the gauges were fluctuating empty to full,0 to 100 mph, air bag illuminated etc. cabin lamps went crazy. the car smelled like it was burning in the cabin. found no burnt or melted wires. i called the dealer to get them to pick up the car and they told me the battery went dead. when they test drove it now being the fourth time they said it needed new spark plugs and wires. i just cannot believe what they are telling me so i pulled this vehicle out of their care. *ak

I would like to report that my 2000 ford focus has stalled multiple times in intersections and on the road and is now being serviced to repair the problem. i would like to know if it is safe for me to continue driving the car considering the problem?*ak please let me know? best wishes judah.

I received a notice from ford program 03n01 possible engine stalling in my 2000 focus. it says the engine may stall while going around corners because of a defective fuel pump filter. my car did stall out on the highway while taking a right on a highway off ramp. when i took my vehicle down to my local ford dealership, i was told that since my car had a "branded" or repaired title, i was not eligible for the repair. i then connected ford directly through their website. i receive a call a few days later and they still stated that they could not repair the vehicle for me. i made a point to tell them that the damage to the vehicle occurred in the front, far away from the fuel pump filter in the gas tank in the rear of the vehicle. they said only recalls with a s in them, for safety, can be done on repaired vehicles. i and most people would think that a car stalling on the highway because of a defect part is considered a safety issue. i am disputing the fact that this recall should be considered an n recall instead of an s. i had a recall repair preformed on the car a couple months ago. i think it my have had something to do with rerouting the battery cable. how can the possibility of a fire be a greater risk than a car that actually stalls on the highway? i do not understand who designates the type of recall that a particular problem is categorized as and why they made this one a n and not an s recall. just because a car has a repaired title and had been inspected as safe for the road by the state of new york does not mean that its driver should be discriminated against and not allowed to have repairs made that can prevent possible accidents and injuries. also, i personally made the repairs to the vehicle and brought it through inspection. i have pictures showing every repair made and they do not involve any repairs in the rear of the vehicle.*ak

While driving 30 mph vehicle stalled , causing loss of steering and brakes. *ak

2000 ford focus caught fire due to manufacturing defect. *ak

Consumer received nhtsa recall 03v482000 concerning fuel delivery problem. dealer indicated they will replace the fuel pump at no cost. also, filter needs to replaced. it will cost $75.00 to replace it. *ak *mr

My car has a constant bad vibration that intensifies on right turns, going up grades, and over bumps. i have taken it to jim click ford in tucson, az for a total of three times. each time they come up with a different excuse and it never fixes the problem. i have been told at first it was, my tires, i replaced all four tires with top of the line michelins, then i was told that my fuel pump was going out and that is the cause of the vibration, now it is the coils. not one of these has fixed the problem, i am still waiting on the pump to get in stock at jim click, and they did replace the coils at a charge of $370.88. in addition to the vibration it sporadically tries to stall and hesitates when turning. i also have my taillights, and back up lights constantly burning out, i have replaced them 3 times and the last time i had jim click replace them. (the back up light, passenger side is out again) i was also told the first time i took in my car to jim click ford (before the fuel pump recall), i needed to replace a failing fuel pump and that would cost $680.00 to replace. (parts and labor) i could not afford it and took it out of their shop, i then brought it in after the recall and they told me that the fuel pump was not the problem that it was the coil and they could not replace the fuel pump since it was not failing. i then fought it out with them and they said they would replace the fuel pump when it came in stock late january 2004. they did replace the coils and the engine check light was on when i brought it in and that is how they determined that it was the coils. they fixed that problem and i got my car back and guess again the engine light came on the very next day and the vibrations are getting worse. i am starting to feel that this car is a lemon my car only has 64,000 miles and has so many recalls and service bulletins it is scary. *cb

The fuel pump failed while going uphill while low on gas. i added 2 gallons of gas and this made it 1/4 tank, but it failed to start. i coasted to a repair shop and called east hills ford and was told that they did not have a fuel pump in stock. the repair shop found one and i had the car repaired .*ak

Fuel gauge light came on and tank indicated empty even though tank had just been filled. dealer checked system and found no fuel system problem but said the problem was caused by leaving the key on (listening to radio) while filling the tank. within 1 week of dealer visit the same problem reoccurred at least 10 times. however, key has been in off position during refueling. dealer has not been notified of latest incident. *ak

Leaking water into passenger foot-compartment. isolated problem to plastic cover that sits beneath windshield, and is mostly accessible with hood open. the problem is that the plastic comes away from windshield due to some buckling in the plastic. fixed problem by applying pressure to plastic to bend it back to shape so it snagged-up closer to windshield. not seen problem since. mastic to adhere plastic to windshield might be an option to other people. the fuel gauge sometimes refuses to work. found this to be case when key is put into ignition and key-turned to start engine was done too quickly. if entering key into ignition and then turning key each click, giving each click a half-second, then gauge appears to be more reliable. when engine goes into slow-idling state, engine idles very erratically and is not smooth. sounds like only some of cylinders are firing. this has only started to occur today and since reading comments on this website, i'm concerned. have tried adding fuel-injector-cleaner to fuel tank, awaiting results of that. the trunk would not close. the problem here was fixed by removing the locking assembly from the trunk-lid and simply dowsing the mechanisms with wd40 and then bending some spring-loaded components.. there are 2 moving components in the lock. first is shape of a loop that you can easily move with finger/screwdriver. this component locks onto stub that you can see when opening trunk. the other component is hidden within casing and moves in front of other component to hold it in a locked position. problem was with this component. problem was component had "somehow" gotten bent and not free to leave casing and block other component. bending this to a position freeing it of casing fixed problem. engine lacked power when under load when accelerating, vehicle would shudder and decelerate instead of accelerate. problem resolved when ford dealer replaced spark-plugs plus leads and a full engine tune-up. $230 plus but fixed problem. *la

My car suddenly stall when i am stop in a ligth or when i am driving, it has been 4 times at dealer but they can find the problem, this morning i was hit by a car i was driving and my car suddenly stalled the car behind me wasn't able to stop and hit me, thanks god nothing happened it was just a small scratch, so when nhtsa is going to do something about this, are you waiting for some one to die in a crash accident, please do something about it.

My complained is regarding my ford focus it is a 2000 focus se, i am having the engine problem, it stalls. i has been 4 times at the dealer but they don't find anything wrong, last time i went a got charged $120 dollars but they didn't fix, the bad part is my manufacturer waranty is over and i only have the extende warranty , my question is what can i do to get my car fix, this is very dangerous i almost been hit twise because the car suddenly stops, so this a major problem that's why am i not driving it until it gets fix.thanks. *ak

In july i had to have the fuel pump and sensor replaced as the guage would read empty when the tank was full. today, the car stalled while i was parking it. i smelled gasoline and got out of the car to find a large amount of gas leaking all over the ground. i then had to have the car towed to the dealer, as the car is still under warrenty. however, before the car could be towed i had to call the fire dept. as aaa will not tow a car leaking gas until they get an ok from the fire dept. *ak

Ford focus 2000-- gas tank gets to below a quarter of a tank of gas it lunges and jerks. this is the 2nd time it has happened . i read many incidents of this happening. this should be a recall on this automobile .*ak

The dealership refused to honor the recall for the pinch bolt 02 v 289 000 due to a discrepancy. *jb the steering wheel started to vibrate and the wheel shook. the vehicle was taken in for the recall, but the consumer was told that there was another problem which was with the oil. *scc

Ignition switch will not turn. i noticed in researching the internet that many others had the same failure. i did not see a recall. this is the latest failure of many: brakes, fuel gauge, bad struts. now at 39000, i am 3000 miles out of warranty. *jb

When vehicle fuel level goes below 1/2 tank, engine begins to "buck" and lose power. when fuel level gets to 1/4 tank, engine becomes very sluggish, "over revs", "bucks" and is subject to stalling at times of acceleration(i.e.: expressway ramp entrances). have had the vehicle to the local ford dealer and they could not duplicate the problem. have had it to a general repair facility and they could not locate the problem, though they did experience it on several test drives. currently making arrangements to have gas tank dropped and the 2 filters in the fuel sending unit inspected, as suggested in odi id no. 10023502 on nhtsa website. this vehicle has been involved in two inccidents that could well have been devistating accidents, due to the engine stalling upon entrance to an expresway and once in heavy city traffic at a turn light.*ak

I have upon more than one occasion had my 2000 ford focus zx3 stall and or die on me. this happens mostly on on-ramp and off-ramp situations, many times the car will shut down while entering the highway at 40+ mph this is a serious situation, stalling without warning will one day get me killed. just as well, i had the car at ford to discuss the situation, they said nothing was wrong and sent me on my way. i am still having issues with this stalling and stumbling, and would like some kind of recall or tsb put out. i think ford should replace all of our fuel tanks and fuel pumps. to this date i know of 5 other focus owners, both sedan and coupe (zx3) which i own, have had these same problems.

While driving on a rural rood at approx. 6:00 am the vehicle stopped running and left me stranded in the middle of the road. this occurred during a rain/sleet storm and put me in extream danger. the car was towed to fairfield ford, fairfield, oh and repaired. i was told that the problem was caused by a broken wire in the control module for the fuel pump. although this vehicle is 3 years old it only has about 7,000 miles on it.

Continued problems with ford 200 focus zts. bearings, electircal system, brake and paint issues among others.

Car came to a full stop

1. july 26,2000 was the first incident when the fuel gauge light came on and even though the tank was full, the gauge registered empty. dealer replaced sender and pump assembly. 2. oct.11,2000 fuel gauge light came on, and the gauge registered the tank as empty even though it was full. dealer replaced the sender and pump assembly. 3. feb. 6, 2002, engine check light came on, returned to the dealer who replaced fuel filler cap. 4. aug. 19, 2002, service engine light came on, returned to dealer who replaced the gasket-fuel tank sender.*ak

This car has had 4 recalls so far. in addition to the recalls i have had it in for other problems like the gas light failed to to work, the igntion part after turning car off would act like the key was still in. the biggest complaint i have is the brakes at 9000 miles i had it in to check the brakes and then 8000 miles later my roters went bad. i do not feel safe in this car at all.*ak

Gas gauage does not work properly, vehicle does not show correct gas level.*ak

I have had my car for one year and five months. i have replaced the fuel pump a month after purchase, twice within two months. my gas lines have fallen off the car, causing the neighborhood to be filled with fumes. stalls while driving, not matter the speed, dealership said they fixed the issue, still ongoing. car hesistates to go at times. often the inside of the car smells like gas. hard to put car in reverse and other gears, often pops out of gear. recently replaced clutch cable, tech says the clutch is fine. replaced the brakes and rotors after being told they were fine, two weeks later the rotors were gone. brakes continue to squeak. windshield is not sealed, you can hear air blowing in while driving. had a burning smell from under hood was told there was no problem, only to get a recall, and my cables were melted. brake lights always out, when i replace one the other goes out. i have contacted ford motor company, and dealership, both tell me i have to keep getting repairs. i asked ford motor company to buy the car back, and they refused. i feel this car is not safe, i hate driving it.*ak

Consumer stated the gas gauge failed, the brakes were squeaking, the mirror was torn off by repeated car washes, gas leaked on the both driver and passenger side carpet, and the truck latch was broke, also the fues burst on locks. *yh

I have had a fuel problem for over a year. alternator, fuel pump, and fuel pump relay have been replace, but issue continues. ford dealership insists on replacing more parts without assurance of correcting the problem.*ak

Fuel gauge is not registering the proper amount of fuel. the fuel gauge shows a quarter tank of fuel, but in fact, the tank is empty. dealer was notified.*ak

Since purchased. on four separate occasions my car has stopped while driving. here is a brief rundown of additional physical problems i_x0012_ve had with the car, which include but are not limited to:3 months: the emergency brake went out. the brakes had to be replaced (2 times). the gas gauge stuck on empty (twice). i felt a constant pulsating on the clutch. the dealer told me that all new cars have that for up to 3 months while they get used to new chemicals running through their system. nearly 2 years later, the pulsating is still there. the car exploded. i parked my car on a hill, with the emergency brake up. then i heard some clicking and a large boom. i turned around to see sparks and smoke pouring out of my hood, a horrible smell engulfed the neighborhood, and my car (with the emergency brake up) was rolling down a hill towards an intersection. the oil pressure united had to be replaced. there was a problem with the clutch. the car trunk would not open. 6 months: the brakes had to be replaced again. they still squeaked excessively. they still sounded like they were scrapping. i took it back in to a dealership and they told me the 2000 ford focus had a brake problem and there was nothing that could be done about it. even after replaced, the brakes would take much pressure before coming to a stop and would squeak. the trunk would sometimes not shut. the emergency brake would not always work. the front tire kept going flat. ford said it was my driving. i paid to have it replaced and the new tire kept going flat. they said the new tire was defective and replaced it and the stem. w/in the first 2 years: on at least 11 occasions the car would not start until turned over a couple of times. the car has low pick up. the check engine light was stuck on. engine light was stuck on. the gas tank needed a new part. the stick will not always go into reverse. when the heat is on for over 15 or so minutes a heavy burning smell in car. bearings/shock problem.*ak

Leak at fuel tank hose caused check engine light to illuminate. nlm

Car off at refueling. after fill-up, car started and fuel gauge reads empty and low-fuel indicator illuminates. dealer replaced sender&fuel pump and this has not resolved the problem. after driven several miles (>10) fuel gauge works again. customer told to deal with it.*ak
