Speed sensor lead frame problem. vehicle would periodically get stuck in a gear, digital speedometer would go to all dashes, and air bag light would pop up. other times, in highest gear, the vehicle would drop a gear unannounced. would take off in 5th gear at times. would shift hard at times.
Recently experienced speedometer, odometer, cruise control, blinker control, and transmission shifting quits working. if i shut off and start again problems goes away. i had researched the issue and it is the speed sensor. they have a tsb but my vehicle is not included even though it has the exact same issues. a ford dealer said to replace the lead frame, again the exact same issue of the tsb. today, while traveling at 70mph on the highway it suddenly downshifted causing the tires to lock up and squeal and dropping my speed rapidly. thank goodness no one was riding my tail. very scary incident, afraid to drive vehicle now. very disappointed with ford as i have seen many people have this same issue and it has not been addressed. it's unsafe for us that have these vehicles and for others on the road with us. maybe we need to file a class action lawsuit.
I took my truck into red mccombs ford in san antonio, tx because i had issues with my transmission. i can be driving and it would rev up to 4k rpm without my foot on the acceleration. there are times when i'm driving and it drops into 1st and jars me when it bogs down. took it in and we paid almost $1000 for repairs to fix it since i feared for my safety. it felt like i had no control of my vehicle. that was in sept 2018..here we are march 2019 having the same issues. i tried taking it in, but they did not have the offer of a loaner vehicle while they fixed again, so i have had no choice but to drive my truck still. i love my truck...but this is scary driving like this. i don't have a choice because i have to get to work daily. i need a reliable vehicle per i had major surgery last sept and have had 2 emergency room trips since and cannot afford to get in a wreck or have my truck go out with my health issues. i'm afraid all the jerking is going to cause me issues with my back and safety of my family. i have had to pull over and restart truck to get it to quit revving up, and not rear ending someone.
Under certain conditions, the transmission controls could force a temporary downshift into first gear when the vehicle is in motion.
Getting off the highway the truck would no slow down. it would not shift to 2nd or 1st gear. hard uncontrolled stop. when tried to start moving again truck lunged forward and started from 5th gear. drove directly to the ford dealer as this was a safety concern. it switched gears randomly the entire way to the ford dealer from the highway. 2013 47k miles
Speedometer, odometer, cruise control, blinker control, and transmission shifting quits working. believe it's the transmission lead frame causing the problem like in the 2011 and 2012 f150's.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle was shifted into third gear and decelerated on its own. the contact stated that the tachometer and speedometer ceased to display and the instrument panel went blank. the dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failures. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 102,000.
When accelerating to merging on to the highway in the summer the past two years i have had the truck loose power and the check engine light flash on and off til it clears itself for about 30 to 60 seconds after letting off the gas. if you try to give it gas it shakes the hole truck, this causes a dangerous situation when merging on the highway lucky i had enough median to go in to avoid a wreck. summer of 2018 and 2019
While in motion on a main road the truck spontaneously downshifted from 5th gear to third gear and if not for the seatbelt would have thrown me through the windshield. the check engine light revealed a p0720 code after this happened and the truck is not shifting properly.
Sporadic shifting. transmission and/or oil pressure causes the truck to completly shut down on me when driving down the highway.
Sudden downshift into 1st gear at highway speeds. speedometer and digital display stops working.
While driving 75 mph down the interstate the transmission shifted to 2 gear and locked up tires for a split second before shifting back up. i was in traffic and took truck off road into the median, thankfully was able to maintain control of the vehicle before coming to a complete stop. the transmission basically has a mind of its own at times i've been told it is a output speed sensor and will have that replaced. it appears that the 11' and 12's have a recall but not 13' this is a very dangerous issue that needs serious attention be taken care of by ford
Truck was having issues with randomly disengaging from cruise control, loss of power from a stop, and erratic downshifting. on the highway the cruise control would disengage, speedometer would go to 0 then back to its actual speed. from a stop sign/stop light, when the light would turn green the truck would spit and sputter, shifting erratically, rpm would go up but no power. when cruising around 45mph truck downshifted for no reason causing a loud clunking sound, this happened twice consecutively. took is to simmons rockwell to get it diagnosed, after i had already researched the issue and knew what it was, and they replaced the molded lead frame in the transmission. this was exactly the issue they had that caused the recall on the 2011/2012 models. the repair cost was @ $500. i was just reading an article which stated that the nhtsa may order another recall which would include the 2013 model.
Around 100k miles. truck all of a sudden started to hard shift. eventually would throw orange wrench light and speedometer would quit working and would have trouble getting the speed up as if it werent shifting. air bag light will come and stay on. a reboot would take these problems away temporarily. i've read same owners have experienced same issues online on the f150 forum.
My 2013 ford f150 will shift into different gears while driving causing the truck to lock up. i was driving 65 mph down the interstate this morning when it shifted into 1st gear causing my tires to lock up and skid all over the road. luckily i was able to get it off the road before crashing. i have heard this is the output speed sensor which has happened to millions of other f150's. why has this not been recalled?? this is a major safety hazard! https://www.slashgear.com/ford-faces-1m-recall-expansion-over-worrying-transmission-flaw-02513360/
My truck downshifts without cause, sometimes to 1st gear, and on one occasion my wheels skidded (which was witnessed by my neighbor who was walking his dog and was startled by the skid). the speedometer goes to zero even while moving - i have video from my cell phone of this happening while going approximately 75 mph on the freeway. when this happens all other gauges go to dashes, including the mileage, mpg, etc. the transmission will slip into 2nd and 5th gears and will not go to any other gears. it sometimes remains in 3rd gear even at a dead stop. turning the truck completely off sometimes "resets" things, but only temporarily. i have contacted a dealer about this and they looked up my vin and told me there are no recalls for my truck year - even though the same types of things were occurring with 2011-12 f150's, and those are the subject of a recall. this is a safety issue: it happens without warning, sometimes on the freeway traveling at high speeds, sometimes while sitting at a stop light and it shifts to 3rd gear and hardly will get going. i called ford customer service and explained everything and they said they would report to nhtsa but since it is out of warranty and there is no recall, i would most likely be responsible for the cost of repair. i pointed out a letter sent by nhtsa to ford on january 18, 2018 addressing issues with my truck model and year, but that did not change anything in the representative's mind. i believe there needs to be consumer protection on this, both from a safety and financial aspect, by nhtsa. i have video of what happened on the freeway with the truck downshifting to 5th gear and remaining there, and when traffic slowed the truck downshifted to 2nd gear and would not shift to any other gear. i had to pull off the freeway with hazard lights flashing and turn off the truck and restart it to try to "reset" things.
Reported this problem before and now it getting worse it was just the transimission shifting from high gear 6 at 70 mpg in cruise and when i tap the breake peddle to disengage the cruise it dowm shifted to low 1 and the rpm went from 2500 to 6500 and stay in low until i came to a stop then everything went back to normal it now also blown transimission lines and when i take off from a side street of stop light it will take off ok then about the time i reach the center of the street it will sfift into nuteral i can step or pump the gas peddle but nothing happens it just goes into a slow role after 3 to 5 sec it then jumps into gear and takes off normal again also at slow speeds you can hear and feel it clunking into and out of gear and with a metallic sound some times once in the snow had it in 4x4 at parked it and turned it off the next day i back it out of the drive then shifted it into drive then the transfer case shifted it out of 4x4 and it sounded like 2- 8 lbs sledge hammers smashing together and jarring the hole truck this in the beginning has only happen a few times but i was on the freeways at hi speeds i dont drive it on the freeways now and because the dealer ships want a $100 each time i take it in for the same problem and they dont do anything and plus i paid eatra for the platinum warrenty so if i have to leave it i get a loner and i have even been able to get a loner even when it took them over a week to install the transmission lines after they blow out from stop and going in on residential streets also when the trucks shift from high to low you can hear the solenoids shifting all overe under the dash floor infront of the seat along with the dash light flashing even one with a eng with a trans attached
While driving on the city street the transmission jumped from higher gear to a lower gear for no reason. transmission seems to be unable to decide what gear it should be in after stopping at red light. transmission would be in a high gear and almost unable to take off from a dead stop. after turning vehicle off and cranking up again it seemed to work fine. then when pulling out onto the highway from a side road i attempted to go and my truck would barely move, i was almost hit by an oncoming vehicle because my truck would not go into the proper gear and take off as designed to. i am afraid to drive it anymore because i may go to take off and not be able to and get hit by oncoming traffic. i also am afraid i may be going down the road and the transmission jump into a lower gear and cause me to lose control and have a wreck. this is a very dangerous problem to have.
135,987 mi. 2013 ford f 150 econoboost powersteering assit went out! notice a traction fault couple days ago and it went away after i shut off my truck. the steering never did this and it happened in a parking lot making a sharp left turn! and then while trying to drive out of the parking lot turning out to the intersection no power steering???? just last year i had to replace my throttle body because my truck would go limp while driving! why isn't there a recal on the steering for this year?
My transmission has been acting erratically for the past 30 days. at first the vehicle would lose acceleration and then the rpms would jump 2000, after a couple seconds i would hear a loud thump as the transmission reengaged; the speedometer also registered 0 a couple times when this happened. other times the transmission would refuse to leave first gear or i would lose power while in first gear for approximately 10 seconds. the worst issue happened when i was driving the vehicle at approximately 35 mph when the transmission shifted into 1st gear and locked up my rear tires! thankfully i didn't get rear ended, or worse, been driving on the highway; there is no way i could have controlled the vehicle at high speeds and could have seriously injured myself or other drivers. unfortunately these transmission issues are intermittent and do not generate error codes. i've been to two ford dealers, the first could not replicate the issue and the second was able to determine the issue is caused by a faulty electronic control assembly in the transmission; they had to search service bulletins in order to figure out what is happening. while this seems to be a common complaint with ford owners, 2013 vehicles are not included in the recall and they want to charge me $1412.75 to fix the issue. in addition, this is a major safety issue.
Without warning my rear wheels & drivetrain locked up while driving. my vehicle suddenly lost control and i had to drive into the grassy shoulder at around 35 mph to avoid being in traffic. as the problem was occuring, the speedometer went to 0 mph and the airbag light illuminated. the vehicle mileage in the cluster showed all dashes. the transmission felt like it was disconnected from the engine, and transmission was stuck in 5th gear at low vehicle speeds. i cycled the ignition, and truck drove normally after that. this is an intermittent problem and very dangerous to drive with as vehicle will lose power and transmission can shift to 1st gear at high vehicle speeds. my vehicle has the 6r80 faulty transmission with the same type of 6r80 molded lead frame defect problem reported in previous f150 model years. upon contacting dealership they seemed like they never heard of the issue before. ford should issue a recall for all vehicles with p0722 output shaft speed sensor diagnostic trouble codes. a simple electrical issue on a $100 part should not cause this type of dangerous reaction. see ford tsb 13-4-9 and 13-2-3 and recall #16v248000 that should apply to all 2013 f-150's too.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving approximately 60 mph and pulling a camper, the vehicle decelerated without warning. the contact pulled over to observe the vehicle and drove home. a local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 42,642. the vin was not available.
My lead frame, output speed sensor went out at around 110,000 miles and caused my vehicle to stall completely. this occurred while in the middle of a very busy state hwy intersection and almost caused me to get hit by a semi truck and trailer. very dangerous situation. the readout on the mechanics computer was "output speed sensor"

While driving home from work, the vehicle downshifted to 1st gear causing a jerk and the back tires to skid for an instant. if someone would have been close enough, they would have rear ended me. i have a video that i took of it and put it in slow motion for you to review. please contact me for video. or if you can use this link. https://youtu.be/6wtmwtxktoo
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 45 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. the contact stated that the failure recurred approximately five times. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed. north county ford (450 w vista way, vista, ca 92083, (760) 945-9900) was contacted and an appointment was scheduled to have the vehicle diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 111,000.
While driving the vehicle will down shift randomly. this has happened while pulling out into traffic and while driving on the interstate causing the back wheels to lock up for a few seconds. i took the vehicle to the dealership a few months ago and they said they did not notice anything wrong. it recently started doing it again but at a much more frequent rate. unfortunately, i am not a mechanic and have no clue why it would downshift for no reason. i started reading about others having this issue and even recalls for the year prior. this issue is very dangerous and i am not sure how my local dealer sent me on my way knowing this has been an ongoing issue.
1. loss of brakes resulting in pedal going all way to floor at 35 mph city. recall 16s24 but ford dealership is saying my vehicle is not included 2. loss of engine power while attempting to merge onto highway at 65 mph, this has occurred three times. 3. recall 19s07: brought into dealership, stated they don't have the software yet to remedy the problem of sudden power train downshift prime ford 857 portland rd saco maine 04072 service manager :stacey drummey 207-571-5035
Driving truck on hwy when turbo went up and transmission down shifted. also a few times driving in city turbo climbed up rpm and no odometer they suspect lead frame on transmission

Two days in a row my vehicle stalled after violently shaking the steering wheel, i had a complete power loss. i coasted to the side of the road and waited to restart the engine. after about 5 minutes i was able to restart my vehicle. the second time it happened i was one the way to the dealership. the dealership called me back to inform me that my vehicle was driven for 26 miles and could not duplicate. i have been researching online to see if there have been any issues. back in 2013 an investigation was started for this issue. i spoke with the dealership and the service department told me they could not do anything because the cars computers did not throw a code. not only did nothing happen ford did not mention any tsb that would help or fix this issue, after i asked about any tsb that would help or fix. still i got nothing from the dealership.
While traveling on interstate at approximately 70 mph, speedometer suddenly went to zero and transmission shifted from 6th gear to 1st gear causing the rear wheels to slide from the sudden deceleration, nearly causing an accident. vehicle had previously been taken to dealership for service due to a similar issue where the indicated speed would suddenly change while traveling at constant speed and the transmission would downshift 2 or more gears in response. pcm was reprogrammed at that time but the issue would still occur periodically. dealership is now replacing the transmission molded leadframe at a cost of over $1000. this defect is identical to ford safety recall 16s19, but the recall only covers year model 2011 & 2012 vehicles. this is a major safety issue that needs to be covered be a recall.
I am experiencing the exact same problem with my 2013 ford f-150 xlt as those that have been recalled in the 2011 and 2012 models. my truck was also built in dearborn, michigan and has the 6r80 transmission. i took my truck into the dealership this week to find that the lead frame needed to be replaced. the dealer is replacing the powertrain control module software and the lead frame at my cost of $1,362 . the problem: a problem with the output speed sensor on the vehicle's transmission lead frame could cause the transmission controls to force a temporary downshift into 1st gear. depending on the speed of the vehicle at the time of the downshift, the driver could experience an abrupt speed reduction that could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up, resulting in loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash. earlier this week on multiple occasions, my truck will not shift out of first gear after coming to a stop. i was nearly involved in an accident due to this problem when i was unable to accelerate from a stop light and there was no place for me to pull over. the problem only corrects itself when i shut the engine off and restart it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle decelerated and the shifter could not be placed in the correct position. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. in order to operate the vehicle, it had to be manually restarted. the vehicle was taken to marshall ford lincoln (4200 e end blvd s, marshall, tx); however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to pick up speed and stalled. the contact had to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road and restart the vehicle. the second time the vehicle stalled while driving over 50 mph, and the oil indicator illuminated. the vehicle was unable to be restarted after coasting over to the side of the road. the vehicle was towed to a dealer (levittown ford, llc, 3195 hempstead turnpike, levittown, ny 11756, (866) 421-1288) who replaced the fuse and re-wired the fuse box per a tsb. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated that they would follow up with a response within 48 hours. the contact wanted to know why a tsb had been issued and if the dealer stated this was a known issue, but there was no recall issued yet by the manufacturer. the approximate failure mileage was 19,600.
As i am driving the 2013 ford f-150 raptor 6.2l the gears seem to be off, if i am driving only 30mph the gear is at 6. also the more dangerous and scary thing is that it shifts down without any warning, i was traveling about 35mph and the gear seem to shift down to 1 locking my rear tires and making me skid almost causing the vehicle behind me to run into me. the tires locked almost as if i put the brakes on. i'm glad i was only going 35mph but what if i'm going 80, this would be a more dangerous and scary scenario. it also happened when i turned on to a street and as i started to accelerate it dropped my gear to 1, locked my wheels and acted like it didn't want to shift or accelerate , i pulled off to the side of road, i sat there for a few minutes wondering what happened and went on my way nervous if it will happen again, which it didn't and made it home. next day i took to ford and they said they cant duplicate the issue so there is nothing we can do. this is scary , i don't fell safe with me and my son in this vehicle. what could be causing this dangerous situation? what is my next opposition to get this fixed. thank you
Driving on interstate at roughly 70 mph with cruise control engaged, truck lost power and started to coast. speedometer swept to 0 indicated speed, tachometer indicated engine at idle speed, around 1000 rpm, while coasting from 70 mph slowing to roughly 40 mph. vehicle regained powered drive briefly then again lost power and coasted. after resuming coasting, the back tires then breifly locked up, vehicle shuddered, then resumed coasting. extremely dangerous as vehicle being driven in traffic on interstate and became nearly uncontrollable. explanation from dealer service department was that the wiring harness from transmission to ecu passes through firewall through a grommet that is known to fail. the wiring chafes and causes a short and the transmission to malfunction. apparently a tsb is issued for repair at customer's expense per dealer but i have not been able to find it. this appears to be a proverbial ticking timebomb for f150 owners and should absolutely be subject to a recall.
The vehicle did not shift to the appropriate gear and acted erratically. the rpms might spike but the truck did not accelerate. other times the rpms dropped to zero even when i depressed the gas pedal. after first replacing the spark plugs, the dealership replaced the lead frame for a total out of pocket cost of approximately $1,100. i was lucky that the problem manifested itself at lower speeds in town. this could easily have been a serious safety problem under other conditions such as towing a camper/trailer or at high speeds. i see there was a lead frame recall on the 2012 f150s. it seems appropriate that this recall would also be applicable to the 2013s. https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia-mobile/fna/us/en/news/2016/04/27/ford-motor-company-issues-three-safety-recalls-and-two-safety-co.html
While driving down the highway, the vehicle flashed service advance trac, down hill descent control fault, trailer brake module fail and a couple more codes. all electonics in vehicle went blank, including all controls/gauges. before doing so, last code read, shift to park. almost caused me to have an accident, because the power steering went out and nearly pulled me into another vehicle. the acceleration is bad too, feels like it is not firing all cylinders again. have already taken in for a number of issues, including crankshaft sensor issues(was losing power to driveline); brakes locking up (have replaced the rotors and pads six times and last time i replaced both calibers as well; power steering has been replaced once before, front axles and bearings replaced. as well as, ac problems. when the first issues arose, i was told by service tech at dealership i needed a new engine, (later he completely denied telling me this) instead they fixed some things and gave it back to me. problems have continued since, like i said have taken it in at least 6 times to a dealer and once to an independent mechanic. at first the problems were covered by warrenty, now they are not, there is only 78,000miles on the truck and has been in shop at least 6 times and is only 4 yrs old. not sure what to do, as the problems resemble recall issues, but dealership says they aren't part of any recalls. concerned for my safety on the road.
The electronic throttle body failed at 40,000 miles while driving the car in traffic. i had no control over the vehicle speed, as the gas pedal did not respond, and the car slowed to about 5 mph. i managed to get out of traffic without a collision. i checked online and found this is a very common complaint for ford 3.5l engines. my truck has the 3.5l eco-boost engine. *tr
Was traveling along i-85 about 70mph in my 2013 f-150 stx 5.0 when out of nowhere the truck down shifted from overdrive to 2 gear the truck started wheel hopping and barking the tires and was nearly uncontrollable! i was almost hit in the rear several times until i could limp it to the shoulder and if anyone knows the area i was almost in charlotte nc traffic is terrible. once i gathered myself noticed the seatbelt light came on odometer showed 2 dotted lines with the a wrench sign, also tried to take off aging little power speedometer was not working and would not shift out of 2nd gear. i stopped and cut the truck off and waited about 5 minutes and seem to be okay. the very next day going down the highway about 55mph and it did the same thing except this time the back wheels seem to have locked up and when it let loose i almost got hit trying to the shoulder once again did the exact things as the day before still no check engine light. i called the local dealer and was told nothing could be done until a check engine light came on. once again after letting the truck set for a bit it seemed okay. so for about 3 days it run fine and i was to leave the next morning for out of town work and my truck is the only means of transportation and just as i pulled from my house it started to act up and the check engine light came on just so happens i live near a parts store chain and the person put the code device on and the code came up with i believe it was p 0720 which was the output speed sensor switch located in the transmission.. dealer repaired at a cost of $987.00 that i paid that hurt my wallet. i called ford customer service and the agent said that it has happened to other years with same code and the same fix and would open a case to see if there is a way to get ford to pay, so i am keeping my fingers crossed.

While driving my 2013 ford platinum f-150 at approximately 35 mph going straight on a town road heading to the highway, the wrench service light came and and instantly putting the truck into "limp" mode only allowing me to drive 5 mph. i am lucky not to be in highway traffic. i did have my family with me heading on a 5 hour journey. completely unsafe! after a few restarts the same wrench light came on as well as the check engine light. and again the vehicle went into limp mode allowing me to drive 5mph. the grieco ma ford dealer said it was a failed throttle body, vehicle only has 55k miles on it and has been serviced regularly at the aforementioned ford dealer! i hope this safety issue gets recalled so no one will ever have to go through the situation like i did ever again!
Lose power on acceleration while passing on the highway sudden lost of power and engine fail shacking type of feel not noise or warning before events
The truck will down shift while driving. it has happened a few times now. i was driving about 30mph and experienced a drop in power and the gauges started jumping all over. it also dropped to 1st gear when i was on the highway doing 70 mph. it felt like someone threw the e-break. quick jerking motion. i had to pull over and shut the truck off. thankfully my family was not in the vehicle and no one was directly behind me. the few other times it happened i noticed something going wrong so i quickly pulled off the road and shut it down. turning it off seemed to "reset" things and let me get home. i had a diagnostic ran and it coded #4 spark plug and #4 coil. i had both of those replaced - and experienced the same issue the very next day! ran another diagnostic and it coded the same way! took it to a ford dealership to check it out and their final answer was "needs a new engine". it has 110k miles on it and i bought it less than 1 year ago and it needs a new engine? i have $700 wrapped up in replacing parts that did not need replacing and diagnostics that did not give me a realistic solution. this does not sound like an engine issue- sounds very similar to the recent recall on the 2011-2012 models. truck is parked in the driveway. no one in my family will be driving it. hope to hear that ford recognizes the bigger issue here and steps up to take care of this.
2013 ford f-150. consumer writes in regards to engine continued to stall after dealership replaced throttle body unit. *smd the consumer stated he had two units fail within a seven month period, that caused the acceleration to shut down. when it incidents occurred, he was forced to coast to a safe location to re-start the vehicle. *jb
My truck has been experiencing hesitation upon acelleration and is making noises and my check engine light was on. i took it to the dealership on february 2, 2016 be fixed and at first it was covered under warranty. i took it back on february 16, 2016 bc i had to have a ford rental per ford. the truck was repaired but then it wasn't covered per ford and i had to pay over $400 to get it fixed. my check engine light came on again and it had to go back to the dealership but this time it was covered under warranty. i just got my truck back on april 11,2016 and today on april 14, 2016 the light is back on. i am waiting on a call back from the ford dealership to find out what to do next.
Driving down the road going about 45mph and lost power to gas wouldn't go over 30mph tool light came on then and number 1 warning light came on. let it sit for half a hour , turn back on and it must have reset it self p. drove back home which is 20 miles away and it did it again. i bought this truck brand new it only has 60k miles on it.
