Approximately one year ago, the side mirror and rear window defrosters stopped working intermittently. a ford dealer checked the rear window on 1/3/2017 and told me the only way to fix the problem was to replace the entire rear window. i decided not to complete the repair due to cost. on 1/21/2017, the rear defroster was working and i turned it on shortly after starting the vehicle. after about 15 minutes of driving, while driving slowly on a residential street, i heard a loud bang. my daughter started crying in the rear seat and asked me what happened to the back window. the passenger side rear window had completely shattered. there was no evidence of an impact or anything that could have broken the window besides the rear defroster being turned on. *tr

I hit the remote start on my truck this morning and when i walked out to my truck and got in to head to work i heard a loud pop and didn't know what it was at first. i looked back and my back right rear window was shattered. i don't know how or what happened. i just heard the noise and looked around and noticed my window exploded. i got out to look at it and when i shut my door the window fell apart. *tr
Driver side-rear defrost window shattered for no reason. the truck has a cap on the bed. now have to get the cap removed to have it repaired. ford said no way to cover even the $100 deductible. terrible service when i spent $30k and they can't chip in when there is a defect. and the entire rear window will need to be replace, not just the section. *tr
Driving down the road at about 20mph. 7 and 9 yr children in back seat. turned rear defroster on and about 2 min later heard very loud noise like something hitting my roof. didn't know what happened till i looked in my mirror and saw driver side rear stationary glass pane spider webbed. looked at roof and see nowhere where something hit roof. from what i am reading this is a common problem that has not been addressed by ford. *tr

The rear window on my f150 broke while my wife was warming up the car. the only thing she did was turn on the rear window defrost. *tr

Turned on rear defrost when starting vehicle, one of the sections of the rear sliding window shattered. *tr
Pushed rear defroster button 3 times to turn on defroster and it didn't work. finally power turned on after about 10 seconds and defroster started. drove approximately half mile and stopped in a fast food drive thru lane. heard a loud popping sound and smelled like something was burning. turned around and found the passenger side rear windshield window shattered. immediately turned off all climate controls. *tr

May 13, 2014, 0630 hrs. temp 55 degrees f. while i was leaving for work, i pressed the rear defrost button as the morning dewpoint was high and condensation was heavy on the glass. the light on the defrost button did not illuminate, so i pressed a second time. there was a delay, but the light finally came on as advertised. i drove approx 5 miles to the local fuel stop when i noticed a slight burning smell from the rear cabin area. i parked the truck, and looked around but found no evidence of something burning. i stepped out of the truck and as i started to walk away from the vehicle, i heard a loud "bang", which scared me. it sounded as if something fell from the sky and hit the top of the truck. i looked around, and then opened the right rear door. the burning smell was more prominent, and i then noticed that the 'bang" was my right rear window pane shattering. the whole right rear pane had become extremely hot, and it shattered. there seems to be an issue with this heating/defrost system that needs rectified immediately. my youngest child could have had this window blow right into her had she or anyone else been sitting in the rear cab at that time. in addition, the possibility of the window blowing outward into oncoming traffic could also be a major issue for many different reasons. this needs addressed as soon as possible. *tr
Sunroof shattered while driving down the road. the weather was nice about 60 degrees and clear skies. there were not any cars in the same vicinity as my truck. nothing hit the glass, it just shattered out of nowhere.the sound was extremely loud and the glass was pushed outward. *tr
I was driving along with no one very close to me and i heard a loud boom and then some air whistling. my sunroof shattered. when i pulled over and checked, it had an upward bubble in the middle. nothing hit the truck and i had been driving for at least 30 minutes when it happened. then the glass started to make pellets and fly off. we took it to ford and it was not covered under the existing warranty (certified pre-owned vehicle). has this happened to others? is this a defect? thank you. *tr
noticed about a week ago that the rear defrost light stopped coming on when i pushed the button. had a co-worker ask me what was wrong with one of my rear windows , saying that one of the 3 was noticeably darker than the other 2. the next day, that window blew out into the bed of my truck. outside temp about 20 degrees, truck had been driven so it was warm. got back into the truck to go somewhere else, the window blew out. talked to my salesman, he said the same thing happened to his neighbors truck the week before, also same thing with rear defrost light not working all of the sudden. *tr
Driving down the freeway, i heard what sounded like a loud pop! i had my 10 month old grandchild in the back seat. i began to look around trying to see what happened. i was not passing an under pass nor was there any debris on the road. i looked up to see the moon roof had just exploded! shaking, i pulled the visor over the glass and pulled over. i looked at the top of the moon roof, it was smooth and took pictures of it. on the inside it was in a thousand pieces, but hanging in there. i took pictures of that as well. i then took it to ford and upon visual inspection, the service writer as well as another service tech acknowledged no impact was visible to the roof. ford has denied my claim on the moon roof claiming there must have been an impact. i am now sitting on hold with ford customer care to dispute their nonsense and letting them know that i have found a forum on edmond's about exploding moon roofs. i also noted that another ford customer is experiencing the same problem with ford acknowledging the problem and issuing the same result as was given in my report, namely, it must have been an impact! i also told them if anything had happened to my grandson, i would be in a lawyers office today! i have just gotten off the phone with ford customer care and spoke with [xxx] who has contacted the dealer to appeal fords decision on the claim. i am at the point of waiting to hear the results. i told ford they need to investigate what the issue could be and [xxx] stated that they have also filed with the nhtsa on my behalf. i am hopeful at this point that ford can resolve my issue, but most importantly they need investigate the manufacturer and make sure the product is according to u.s safety standards. my vehicle is a 2012 ford f-150 platinum eco boost. at the time of the incident, my vehicle is less than 9 months old and under 25k miles. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
