We have classified the 160 complaints from 2011 Ford F-150 about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Attempted to pass a car. speed at time of attempt was 55mph. time 2:20 p.m. and partly cloudy. two lane road but had plenty of time to pass or an accident could have occurred. pushed down on accelerator and the engine actually decreased speed/significant deceleration. i let up on gas pedal, maintained speed then was gradually able to pass. think the turbo had stalled. this had happened once before, shortly after i purchased the truck. at that time i was merging onto interstate and it stalled out, for a shorter duration. after the july 31 incident, i took the truck to ford to inquire about the issues some owners have had on the eco boast engine, which i have. no codes appeared so i was told they couldn't do anything. then talked to regional customer service and got the same story. i am very concerned as i use the truck to tow a 26' trailer. when the eco boast turbo works, i have plenty of power to merge or pass. the above experience was scary and i did not have the trailer behind me at the time. now i feel i can not reasonably depend on it to work as it should. i think it is the turbo but it could be the electronic gas pedal, or the transmission but i really do not think these are the issue. please help! thank you.
When i'm accelerating the engine stalls, i may be leaving a stop sign climbing over an overpass or passing another slower vehicle. seems to happen more often about 40mph to 70mph. *tr
Vehicle has a parasitic drain on the battery. within 12 to 36 hours the battery will be completely drained of power. vehicle has been taken into ford service 4 times and the issue is unresolved. *tr
My 2011 ecoboost f150 would sputter, shake and chug as i do a hard acceleration entering a highway or pass a vehicle. 4 times i have had my truck for service with the last 12 months for the same exact problem. my engine light will flash several times and then it will stay on till i take the vehicle in for service. 2 times the dealer has told me the problem is a turbo cooler issue and want to charge me $200 for some cheap lick and stick plastic air deflector. the other 2 times they have said i have a bad distribution wire and plug. first was on cylinder 3 and second time on cylinder 1. every time this has happened on a hard acceleration, its been during heavy traffic and i have had to pull of the road to avoid an accident. i have to now be very cautious when accelerating as i feel this truck is an accident waiting to happen. i hope someone can get this recalled as i know there is a lot of these trucks out there with the same problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the battery was disengaged and reconnected. after waiting ten minutes, the vehicle restarted. the failure recurred intermittently. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v128000 (electrical system). the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the body control module. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000. updated 7/16/15*cn the consumer stated since the body control module was replaced there were no failures. updated 11/13/15*js
Repeated misfires, and loss of power when accelerating, engine lights flashes. this has happened 2 additional times since the first incident. the last 2 times i narrowly avoided accidents at highway speeds. the inter-cooler has been replaced and now they say i need plugs. i need help to fix this problem. *tr
Event occurred 3 times over a period from 27 oct 13 to 21 nov 13, decelerating while towing a trailer. speed varied all three times from a high of about 60mph, to a low of 45mph. message center would turn orange and display a wrench symbol, while the engine discontinues producing power. after pulling over, simply turning the vehicle off, then restarting, everything appears normal again. two ford dealers "found no codes", and were unable to further diagnose the issue. the second dealer attempted to collect data via an onboard computer as well, but the event wouldn't repeat while the device was installed, nor was i towing during that time. one of these events occurred on a two lane road with no shoulder available. traffic had to stop until i restarted. dangerous at best. the third even occurred going up a one lane freeway flyover. i was able to coast past the bridge structures and onto the shoulder, however, this occurred during rain, and multiple other vehicles had to make accident avoiding maneuvers, including tractor trailer rigs. very dangerous. i have replaced the vehicle. *tr
I was traveling in the righthand lane of the east bound side of i24 around manchester, tn. my speed was approximately 65-70 mph. i suddenly came up upon slower traffic in the same lane and signaled to pass the slower traffic. as i looked in my mirrors for traffic behind me i noticed another vehicle closing on me in a hurry. i depressed the accelerator to gain speed and make the pass. the vehicle lurched and the motor suddenly shut down and wouldn't accelerate in the middle of my pass. the vehicle behind me locked their brakes and managed to slow their vehicle down before possibly colliding with me. i let the slower traffic on the right pass and signaled to get back in the right hand lane. this has happened twice to me and i think there is a real possibility this could endanger lives and property if not corrected. my 2011 ford f-150 is equipped with the 3.5 liter ecoboost v6. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced independent shifting. the vehicle was taken to hagerstown ford in hagerstown, md where it was diagnosed that a software update was needed. the contact stated that the failure still recurred, but not as often. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not offer assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 59,125.
This is very disappointing to have to experience so soon with a brand new truck. the location of this wiring harness is in an area that unless you have side steps and maybe even then, is not protected. even then the way the wiring harness comes out from within the wheel wall makes no sense. i'm attaching a few pictures so you can see what occurred. luckily, someone saw the wire dragging and told me before it was too late. i put up the harness and taped it to hold it up. this could have had a horrible outcome had the wires continued to shred or make contact with one another.
I rented a ford pickup truck from u-haul, and i feel that the automatic lighting controls on it are a safety issue. at night, when you open the driver's door, the dashboard illumination (speedometer, other gauges) comes on automatically. when you put in the key and start the engine, the daytime running lights (white lights on the front of the truck that are not as intense as the normal low-beam headlamps) come on. the dashboard illumination remains on at all times. *the rear red running lamps/tail lamps do not illuminate*, but this is not obvious when you are in the driver's seat. the result is that it is possible to drive at night with some white light coming out of the front of the vehicle, and the ability to read the speedometer, but with *no rear lighting*. i verified that the parking/emergency brake was fully off (as that is sometimes an input to the drls), and had a friend stand on the side of the street and observe as i drove the truck, and he verified that i had no running lights/tail lights on the back. the brake lamps operated normally when i stepped on the brake, but there was no red light to the rear unless i was stepping on the brake. all of the above was with the headlight switch off. when i clicked the headlight switch to the first position, the running lights illuminated (orange on the front near the headlamps, red in the rear lamp clusters.) when i clicked it to the second position, the normal low beams came on at full intensity. what i think should be different: either the automatic lights/drls should also turn on the tail lights at night, or there should be some indication to the driver that he needs to take additional action (operate the headlight switch) in order to have tail lights. having the speedometer illumination go out when the engine is started might be a good choice. *tr
1. rear defrost and side mirror defrost fuse continually blows. started appx 3 yrs and at 42,000 miles 2. steering column locks up when turning left at a slow speed in cases such as pulling into or out of a driveway or parking spot or making a u turn. at high speeds on the interstate vehicle floats to the left and it is hard to straighten, almost as if there is no power assist.(i understand ford recalled some but not all 2011 f150's for a steering rack replacement (started around 4 yrs/ 55,000 miles 3. transmission takes about 10 seconds to engage into reverse upon starting in the morning or on cold days when vehicle has been parked for mare then say 5 hours started around 6 months/ 6,000 miles.
My new ford f150 has recurring issues with the sync system. we drive down the road, hang up the bluetooth connected phone and the radio will begin playing at full volume and the steering wheel controls stop working, or you will be starting the car up and the air conditioning will be full blast or you will start the car and you wont have any radio/cd player/ media controls working at all. my ford rep says that ford does not have a fix and they don't expect one until maybe the first quarter of 2011. *kb
From a dead stop i accelerated to turn into her driveway the engine hesitated and stumbled it sounded like you had thrown a handful of marbles inside the intake the engine made a funny noise then died after getting it restarted the check engine light came on upon returning the vehicle to the dealership i found out it had melted the intake manifold sensors and part of the throttle body away ford has no idea what caused this the truck is also been plagued with electrical problems. apparently it came real close to an engine fire the truck is still broke down at the dealership since august 5, 2011. *tr
I have already reported this piece of junk but needed to add to the list?. we, as of last week, are on our 15th rental while the dealer and ford are trying to figure out whats wrong with it again?. the engine light has been coming on since the week we bought this junk and is still flashing while we drive?.. the dealer has asked ford to put in a new engine several times but ford for some reason wants the dealer to just keep replacing the same parts over and over again?? we have had several new sets of plugs.. the others crack and short out? we've had cam phasers and sensors replaced?? fast forwarding through many parts repeatedly replaced, the dealer now says there are parts sheared off in the engine and are asking ford, once again to replace the engine?. we are waiting on ford to (probably) decline the dealers recommendation?.. ford stopped calling us back, we have left several messages and they just keep passing the buck onto the poor dealer, who has been trying to help us?.. ford should have taken this lemon back long ago and gave us a new one?.. our 15th rental might be with us for some time while we wait on an answer?? we sometimes have our rentals for over a month at a time??. its nice to keep paying on time for a vehicle that we don't even have?(sarcasm). *tr
i was driving on the highway, in the right lane, doing about 60 mph. for some unknown reason, the truck simply shut off and lost all power. i coasted to the shoulder and waited a minute or so to calm down and decide what to do. i then tried to restart the truck, and it started right up. i nervously drove the rest of the 25 miles or so to my home without incident. the truck also seemed to run fine for the next couple of days until i could get it into the dealership to have it looked at. the dealer determined that the battery was bad (only 2+ years old) and replaced it under warranty. it seems odd to me that the battery was the problem, since the truck restarted easily and ran well for the next few days. however, the new battery does seem to have cured the problem as it hasn't repeated the traveling shut down. i am cautious and nervous now about driving over it for fear it might shut off again. it is actually similar to what the gm cobalt owners experienced, although this does not appear to be ignition related.i have written to ford to see if they would confirm what the dealer told me - that a weak battery could cause a vehicle to quit while running. i am hoping that by documenting this incident, i will find out if other owners of newer f150s have had similar full speed shut downs. i'm trying to decide whether to keep the truck or sell it because i still don't trust it. *tr
