The rear portion of the frame is rotten to the point that the let springs hangers are ready to break off the frame and the spare tire holder is also ready to fall off. i just replaced the rear spring shackles due to the were also rotten and broke. the gas tank straps were also a problem due to rust but ford though enough of the problem there was a recall on that, toyota had a problem with rusted frames and did a massive recall on that issue. why hasn't ford done the same thing? the frame should be the last thing one needs to worry about with any vehicle. the truck currently has 146000 miles and now we need to figure out what the next move will be with this vehicle. repair it, junk it or trade it ????? *tr

070508 discovered flat tire on truck parked in driveway of home. determined flat was caused by valve stem crack. had valve stem replaced at tire shop. different tire, same brand, went flat while driving on interstate, 082608. had road service replace with spare tire to drive home. inspected tire at home and determined another valve stem crack/defect. no accident or vehicle damage occurred, although the interstate flat may have been but i was notified by passing motorists that tire was going flat. will take latest flat tire to tire shop this weekend to have another valve stem replacement. concerned that all four tires are same make and brand, bought at same time, and i have had two valve stem failures in two months. *tr

Two of the four 265-70-17 contitrac suv tires with 26,000 miles that were installed as replacement tires on my 2002 ford supercrew have broken belts inside the tire in the past two months. these tires have a bulge that shifts the tread apx 2cm over and up 1cm. this makes it impossible to keep the truck on the road at 65 mph. the ford dealer has been happy to sell me a new tire but has not given any credit, (pro-rate) for the fact the tire has been rendered useless in less than 40% of the life expectancy of the tire. i was not given a choice to report both the tires that failed only one, nor a choice to report 17 inch tire sizes, and the site only allows me to pick one spot on the truck fr the tire failure the other was drivers side rear. *nm

While having my vehicle serviced today, i asked my mechanic to check a shaking in the front of my truck. i first noticed the shaking on july 3rd, 2005. when he called, he told me that i had two defective tires, and they were to the point that the wires were pushing through the rubber. the last time my vehicle was serviced, in may, there were no problems with my tires.

I purchased 4 new goodyear fortera tires 8/2004 and had freeway blow outs on 3 of the 4 tires with less than 15,000 miles on each tire. blow outs occured 2 in may and 1 in june. i replaced the first 2 again with fortera tires, but after blow #3 i requested that goodyear prorate all tires so i could replace with another brand but they refused. given this experience i believe these tires are defective and should be tested and possibly recalled. the dealer could not detect why the tires failed due to damage from freeway blow outs and having to drive off of the freeway before stopping.

The cable that attached the spare tire to the underside of the truck bed snapped. we lost the spare tire. we think it fell on the highway though we could not find it.

Spare tire cable failed while driving. spare tire fell off truck, do not know when, but noticed when flat tire occurred and spare was gone, cable frayed and needed replacement of assembly and spare tire plus wheel as original was not recovered. unknown whether any damage to others resulted from spare tire falling from truck. this is a tremendous safety hazard at interstate speeds and this type of occurrence could cause a catastrophic crash.*ak

While driving there was severe vibration in the front end of the vehicle. dealership replaced all four tires, but needed to replace the front driver and passenger side tires again at consumer's expense. *ak

Driving 65mph on interstate 45 in houston when truck began to shake violently and a loud tumbling noise started to emit from tires. i pulled over immediately and found the rear passenger tire tread had split apart from the sidewall. general grabber aw p255/70r16, 19k miles. reported to continental tires; they denied the $800 dollars of damage to my rear wheel well claiming the tire was "run flat." before shipping the tire to continental, it was inspected and found defective by my local ford dealer and three other authorized general tire retailers. tires were rotated every 5k miles and otherwise meticulously maintained.*ak

Consumer states spare tire cable broke. dealer notified.*ak

The spare tire disconnected from the vehicle. *jb

Approximately on month and 1800 miles after purchasing the vehicle. the right front tread separated from the sidewall. i took the tire to the dealer and was told they would replace the tire with one just like it but it had to be ordered and would be in a day or two. four days later the tire was still not in but they took one off another vehicle and put it on mine. two weeks later the same wheel, with the new tire, went flat again. this time the dealer told me to take it to the tire shop and have it checked out. i did so and was told the wheel had a leaking valve stem, was fixed free of charge and so far is still up. on 10-23 the right rear tire on my truck went flat. it as all the rest are also general grabbers. the only thing i can see that could be the cause of the rear tire flat is a rock stuck between the tread, though i haven't checked to see if it punctured the tire or not. i'm taking the truck to the dealer the next day or two to let them inspect it. i have done some research on the grabber aw and discovered that there is a recall on the 17" version. the dealer and ford have flatly refused to replace the tires with a trustworthy and safer tire. in light of all the problems ford has had with tires it appears to me they would be a little more careful with the quality of tires they put on the vehicles they manufacture. these tires are unsafe and dangerous, and although covered under ford's warranty, could be disastrous should another one of them separate. i would appreciate any help or guidance you could provide for me. sincerely [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
