Recently reported TIRES problems on 2001 Ford F-150

While driving on the freeway here in san diego, ca. on dec. 31, 2018 at 11:15 am, at 65 mph i noticed a car in front of me swerve and before a could dodge the object i hit it with my left front tire. a delfinity, dakota, a/t 2, lt265/75 r16. with only 28,880 miles on them. was not long before my steering became wobbly. after managing to get over to the right side of the shoulder of the road in heavy traffic i observed my tire was flat and destroyed beyond repair. after replacing it with the spare in the rain. i returned home to check for any damage to my truck, but found none. after a call the the pepboys store where i purchased them on apr. 30, 2013, as well as the road hazard service plan, i learned they do not carry these tires any more. i was offered a different brand tire as a replacement. can you imagine driving your pride and joy with three tires of one brand and one of a different brand. unacceptable!! as of now reading the other many complaints about these tires i can only accept them replacing all the tires under warranty.

Driving 70mph on the interstate complete blowout 2x in one week... sidewalls look like the rubber was weathered and extremely cracked... *tr

The family was traveling on us highway 77 about 45 miles north of raymondville on king ranch in 2001 f150 supercrew (lariet). we heard a loud explosion and saw smoke coming from rear tire on passenger side. we had complete tread separation but did not lose air. we were able to drive to crossover to change tires. there was extensive damage to the truck's wheel well, fiberglass fender, and rear panel of truck. according to collision center, it is at least $1800 worth of damage. *tr

I heard a popping sound for a couple of days. then it just blew out. *tr

Yesterday i noticed one tire was flat - tried to put air into it and it wouldn't take the air. when i crawled under my truck i noticed the inside wall of the tire had dry rotted. *tr

Vehicle in question is a 2001 ford f150. as the truck was traveling at 20 mph, the braided steel cable that retains the spare tire in the rear underside of the truck broke. this caused the spare tire to bounce down the street and strike a following vehicle. investigation on web forums has information that this is a common problem with these trucks that are exposed to winter salt, the salt has caused cables to corrode in numerous trucks. if this happened on the highway, it easily could have caused serious injuries or deaths. *tr

I purchase a used truck that had 4 fairly new continental contitrac suv tires (p26570r17). the tread wear on all 4 tires was similar and very low, implying to me that the tires were relatively new. approximately one year after purchase, my right front tire suffered a total tread separation. at about 75 mph on a hot dry day, i heard a loud roar and an 'explosion' from the front right side of the vehicle. i pulled over immediately thinking i had a blowout, but discovered the tire was still fully inflated but had completely lost all tread. i moved the vehicle to a safe location and installed the spare. i examined the tire, and could see that the steel belts were still intact and appeared clean and new. the layers of rubber that seal the belts in were visible, and it appeared to me that the tread layer had simply not adhered to the core. there is no evidence of a problem with the other three tires. i took the tire to discount tire co., which carries continental tires, and they said continental would only cover half the replacement cost. considering the danger of a total tread separation like this, and that it is clearly a manufacturing defect, i'm concerned that the company (continental) isn't so much as inconvenienced by the fact that their product is causing this dangerous situation. i was lucky, but had i instead been on a curve when the tread separated, i can see how the outcome would have been substantially less favorable. the damage to my vehicle was minimal, but again, this is more luck than anything else. just glancing through the list of complaints concerning catastrophic tread loss on this particular model of tire, it's difficult not to be struck by the staggering number of them. i would very much like to see the nhtsa investigate this matter. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 ford f150. while driving 70 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle. he pulled off the road and called aaa to change the tire. the tire blew out and the tread was nonexistent. firestone stated that the tire was damaged due to normal wear and tear. the engine size, # of cylinders, and powertrain were unknown. the current mileage is 56,000 and failure mileage was 55,800.

At approximately 9:30 pm, while traveling north on i-81 near winchester, va at 65 mph in a 2001 ford f-150, the left rear tire sustained tread separation. the tire did not deflate. vehicle yawed across two lanes of traffic, but was brought under control and did not roll over. there were no injuries. the tire was b.f. goodrich model radial long trail t/a p235/70r16 and was an original tire on the vehicle. it had over 0.2 of an inch of tread remaining after 50,000 miles. vehicle sustained major damage to the wheel well, side panel, and supports. the remaining four tires (including spare) are being replaced. *jb

I bought a set of your wilderness at p255/70r16/1095 m+s tires , they seemed fine. one day after work i went to get in my truck and the front right tire had simply come apart, not while i was driving, but sometime during the day. i am asking for information on how i am to get them replaced. *jb

I have a 01' svt lightning. i along with probably hundreds others on nloc.net all report problems with the stock goodyear f1's @ correct tire pressure. they all split the sidewall. i've had about 7 f1's split on my truck in with in the past year i've owned it. all of my splits were on the front. i can't speak for all the rest of the lightning owners on their tire locations. i also had a problem with those tires pulling my truck from side to side in the ruts in the road. i thought maybe it was normal for such wide tires. i run nitto tires on it now with no issues (splitting or pulling) what so ever. i no longer use any type of goodyear tires on any of my cars and truck. kramer goodyear told me the last time that goodyear is aware of the problem and they'll prorate me a price on a new f150. after the 7th time i asked why would i want to keep buying another overpriced f150 over and over again that i know will split sooner or later and i'd be right back in here getting a prorated tire again? the 295/45/18 goodyear f1 is a defective tire and someone if they haven't already are going to be killed running these tires. lightning are high performance trucks and most people that own them, race them. ford should really cancel their relationship with goodyear(nascar should too). goodyear is all about the name and their products are junk. it's amazing firestone gets in trouble but not goodyear. *jb

Consumers rear driver's side tire blewout on july 9th. the consumer went to get a new tire and was told by the service technician that there appeared to be cut marks on the tire. *ts about a month later the front passenger's side tire went flat while the consumer was driving. a few days later the rear passenger side tire failed as well. (factory installed goodyear rt/s 265 70 r17, mkt6 c6wr 2501 106l, mkt6 c6wr 2501 113r, mkt6 c6wr 2501 110r, mkt6 c6wr 2501 113l, mkt6 c6wr 2501 113l). *nm

Problems with general tire equipment on ford f150. *mr about a year ago the consumers noticed that his tires had a definite concave look across the surface of the tread. the tire pressure was at the recommended pressure. about eight months ago, he noticed a slight noise, only on rough roads. the noise had become greater which was due to belt separation on two of the four tires. *sc *jb

On 05-31-04, i was driving my 2001 ford f150 4wd pickup on a trip to south florida. on the way i stopped to check my oil/gas and tires and observed 4 cracks on my front right tire. the cracks were approximatelly 1 inch from the rim and appeared approximatelly 1/8 deep. upon further inspection i observed the drivers side tire was also deveolping addtional leeks. the tires are 2001 goodyear wrangler rts 255 70 16. according to research this is a common problem wondering about a recall.*ak

I own a ford f150 2001 supercrew with 64,000 miles on it. i bought the truck new. in feb 2004, i had to replace the right front tire. not wanting to have a tire on the left front that was worn while a new tire was on the right front, i asked the tire agency to put the spare, which had never been used, on the left front wheel mount and to use the old left front tire as the spare. when the spare was brought out from the undercarriage of the truck, several grooves about the size of a man_x0019_s finger and about 3/8 of an inch deep had been rubbed into the sidewall of the spare. the tire agency did not recommend using the spare so i kept the old tire in place. i went to the ford agency where i had bought the truck, seguin motors and told them my story. seguin motors told me that this damage was cosmetic and that the tire was safe to use and that ford was not liable for this _x001c_cosmetic_x001d_ wear. one of the seguin motors repair people told me he had seem these groves on the spares of f150s that were less than four months old. the only conclusion i can come to is that it is a design flaw in the undercarriage that holds the spare. my spare is not safe to put on the ground and it certainly isn_x0019_t safe to use this tire with my family in the truck and drive it at highway speeds. any damage to a tire_x0019_s sidewall is always suspect. one would think with all the problems that ford has had with their tires in the past that they would certainly want to preclude any problem with their tires in the future. i hope you can help me in the resolution of this problem.*ak

While driving from oklahoma back to arizona i started to experience severe vibration. i pulled over, and noticed that the right tire had a huge blister with belt strands protruding from the inside tire. i took it off, and noticed nothing that could have caused it. i took it to earnhardt which the tire mechanic stated that a screw caused the belt separation. i find this hard to believe considering that the tire only had 18500 miles on it and the location of the screw (very small too) was not in the vicinity of the huge blister. it's my belief that the heat was the primary cause. i hope others won't incur the same problems with general tire (graber aw p255/70r16) on 2001 ford f-150.*ak

While driving, the rear passenger tire made a loud noise. the consumer pulled over and discovered the tread had separated from the tire. *jb

The right front tire had a slow air leak. further inspection showed a small puncture in the tire. *nlm *ph *jb

Driver side rear tire tread separated resulting in an accident.*mr while driving the left rear tire tread separated and caused the vehicle to fishtail. the driver overcorrected to the right and left the roadway onto the north shoulder. the vehicle rotated clockwise and the passenger side roof struck a tree. the passenger was ejected and the vehicle came to rest in a ditch (florida traffic crash report - the consumer was not the driver). *nlm

Luckily i was driving in a parking lot and had just crossed a speed bump. my spare tire fell off the underside of the truck. the spare tire cable had broken. as of this date i have not yet notified the dealer. as this is a safety issue i fully expect ford to pay for the replacement. i could have been traveling on the freeway and caused a huge accident when the cable broke and dropped the tire. *jb

The beads on the goodyear tires cracked. mr scc *jb

Right front vibration, right front floor and mirror vibration , this truck has been to the dealer four times without any satisfactory results

The tread completely seperated from the sidewall on both sides of the tire at high speed. john pierce the ford dealer service manager agreed that it had to be a faulty tire. the dealer will only replace the tire but will not fix the 750 dollars worth of damage caused by the blowout. my main concern though is the other tires. i was driving this time but most of the time my wife and children are in the truck alone. how safe is that. the service manager also said the tire manufacturer would only honor the prorated warranty and nothing else. dt

Found tire separation on 3 of 4 original tires. separation was located approx 1/2 from rim and approx 1.5 inches long. on two of the tires the separation was located on the outside and one had the separation located on the inside of the tire. this was the one that concerned me more than the others because most people don't look on the inside of thier tires. these seperations were all noticed when tires where being rotated and balanced. tires were shown to the local goodyear dealer who stated that they had never seen a tire seperate at that area of the tire and they would replace at a pro-rated price. i took the truck to the local ford dealer and the dealership replace all three tires at no cost. the truck is still under warranty. *ak

While driving up a hill front right tires snapped off. dealer notified. size ,/dot unknown. please provide further information. *ak

From acceleration of 25-50 mph, a severe vibration would occur in front of vehicle. at 70 mph or more rear end would vibrate severely along with a roaring and grinding sound. vehicle been to the dealer four times, dealer was unable to locate cause of problem. *ak the vibration is extreme to the point that consumer is afraid to ride in the vehicle. the popping sound in the drivers seat feels like the seat is trying to move forward out of the locked position. when consumer purchased the vehicle the vehicle had a noise underneath. it was told to consumer that it was being repaired with a new muffler that had been ordered. at the time the muffler was being repaired the vibration also was worked on. the work did not correct the vibration problem. a service man test drove the vehicle with the consumer and again the vibration presented itself. four new tires were installed but this didn't solve the problem. *jg

While driving at 45-50 mph consumer had to make a sudden stop, and then front two tires fell off. contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.*ak *yh

The consumer states that the discription on the window of car when purchased, said the tires size was p275/70r17 and the tires on the vehicle is p275/60r17 which causes tire to wear down faster. *jb the tires that came equipped with the vehicle are smaller that what the window sticker indicated, the tires are not wearing correctly and the consumer feels that the vheicle is not safe to drive. *scc
