Apparently the straps holding the gas tank on to my 2001 ford f-150 pick up rusted. today the tank fell off while i was driving when one of the straps let go. fortunately there was no fire, however i spilled a full tank of gas when the tank split. the mileage is 101,000. ford says it's no longer in warranty even though this seems to be a growing problem. *tt
2001 f-150 supercrew 4x4 lariat 5.4 triton 136000 miles. great truck however the under side of this truck is literally rusting out from underneath. rocker panels are gone, but a larger issue at this time is the fuel tank strap has rusted and broke. pathetic rusting on this beautiful truck. *tt
I was driving south on hwy 41 in milwaukee, wi. when i heard a dragging sound under truck. i pulled off hwy and discovered my gas tank was dragging for approx. 2 miles. why it didn't blow up i am not sure. two straps snapped. i had just filled the tank w/ $75.00 in gas and had truck towed and approx. cost of getting truck fixed is $700.00 plus the tow. *kb
Gas tank strap rusted and broker and hanging, dragging. as a consequence the rear of the tank has dropped considerably. as a temporary fix, another strap was fabricated using the old strap as a tracer. this happened before any talk of complaints or investigations was heard about. *tr

Vehicle was driven to pick up supplies. after picking up order, driver approached vehicle and noticed smoke coming out of the hood. 911 was called. fire dept arrived & put out fire in 10-15 minutes. fire fighter (not investigator) said his guess was a gas leak or faulty cng valve that had a leak.*ak was vehicle parked? bby
