The half rear doors accessing the rear bench seat are defective. the doors have a defect in the locking/opening handle. the ford dealer locally wants to charge me in excess of $1119.00 to correct the problem. i have researched this matter via the internet & have found this is a pretty common complaint.

Multi-car rear-ender. front driver's side bag deployed, and driver's left eye destroyed.

My 2000 ford xl triton is great. it has 201,000 miles and runs like a new vehicle. my problem is that the paint has bubbbled and peeled back. it has left some light rust spots under the paint. i would like to have it fixed. after talking with other owners, they said the problem is the thickness of the painy.

Tl-the contact owns a 2000 ford f-150. the contact stated that the step rails on the driver and passenger side had completely rusted. the contact had to remove them from the vehicle. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000. ne

Both passenger back doors stop opening. drivers back door this week, passenger back door the next week. could eventually become a death trap if problem exist inside the cab (fire, collision and can't get out, must crawl across the center console to exit the truck, etc.). expensive to replace the latching mechanisms for both doors. *tr

Tl- the contact owns a 2000 ford f-150. the contact stated that the cross members, cab mounts, brakes lines and starter cables were all rusted. the contact stated that there was a recall on the vehicle for corrosion of the fuel tank straps under nhtsa campaign id number: 11v385000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:mounting) but not for the other corroded components. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000. kmj

Ford has issued a recall for defective fuel tank straps that may corrode and cause a potential fuel leak. i brought my truck in for the recall and sure enough my straps are corroded. the vehicle is at a ford dealership and they will not replace the straps because the corroded straps have started to corrode the tank. according to the dealer the tank will begin leaking if they replace the straps. the dealer called ford customer care and they would not cover the tank. i also called ford and they refused to cover the tank and also will not replace the straps unless i purchase a tank from them to replace. if my straps break i will lose my tank and potentially cause a fire or accident to another vehicle. the recall does not currently address additional damage caused by the defective straps. the damage to my tank is a direct result of the defective straps and should be covered under this recall. i leave in new england and am sure there are many other ford trucks with the same problem. what recourse do i have to get this resolved? spoke with [xxx], a customer service supervisor at ford customer care in florida, case #[xxx]. any assistance would be appreciated, information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

2000 ford f-150. consumer states wheel rims started to rust out in one year *tgw the consumer also stated the bumper rusted out in one year, and the abs light illuminated. the brakes were inspected several times, but no problem was found. the high beams would not come on, the plastic on the outside rearview mirror fell off, the dome light in the cab wouldn't come on, and the tailgate wouldn't close, the windshield wiper washer, wipers and heating system did not work. the power steering pump leaked all the time, the gear shifter wouldn't go into park. the fuel strap failed three years ago and caused the fuel tank to fall to the ground. *jb

Vehicle taken in on oct 5, 2011 for safety recall notice 11s21. while on the rack much rusting was noticed on undercarriage as well as spots rusting through paint at specific points on the right and left side rocker panels, bed and the running boards. pictures and samples were taken and an email sent to the company president. no response was ever received. an internet search has found that this rust problem is prevalent in the f-150 of this vintage. the rust has not only diminished the value of the vehicle but the issues with the rocker panels and running boards have the potential to lead to accidents occurring with a failure at operating speeds. *tr

My truck front cross member that supports radiator and the body to the frame is just about rusted gone. dealer stated that truck is 11 years old and will not fix. i am sending this for record in the event i am killed due to any failure. have read two cases on your website. one is a 2000 f-150 that a cross member support rusted out in 2003 with 48,000 miles. another was a 2000 f-150 that had a tag attached to the frame stating defective material do not use! l/s performance *ak. i expect a full investigation on this and want my vehicle inspected. the consumer was informed the brakes lines needed to be replaced as the vehicle was unsafe to drive. updated 01/06/12 *tr

My truck front cross member that supports radiator and the body to the frame is just about rusted gone. dealer stated that truck is 11 years old and will not repair. i am sending this for record in the event i am killed due to any failure in which i describe. i have read two cases on this website , one is a 2001 f-150 that had a cross member support rusted out in 2003 with 48,000 miles and another was a 2001 f-150 had a tag attached to the frame which read ( defective material do not use l/s performance *ak. i expect a full investigation on this complaint and i do want my vehicle inspected by nhtsa. *tr

I began hearing a squeal coming from the engine compartment and on stopping i could hear the cooling fan hitting the fan cowling. i thought the squeal was from one of the idler pulleys on the serpentine belt, and thought that maybe the fan cowling had loosened. on my way to the repair station, i lost the belt, it came completely off. what actually happened was the radiator support had completely rusted and disintegrated causing the front portion of the engine components to fall forward. i had to bring the vehicle to a body shop where they had to remove the bumper, front end, both fenders, and the hood to replace the radiator support. the owner of the shop knew of this problem when i brought the truck in and stated that this was a common problem with this truck and that he has done approximately 20 of them in the past year. $1400.00 dollars later my truck rides much better and noise free. i thought that i had something going on the passenger side of the truck, for it would bounce terribly over bumps. i thought maybe a bad shock. turns out after this repair, the problem is gone. *tr

Driver's side rear door quit working about 1 1/2 years ago, now the passenger side rear door won't open either. *tr

have a 2000 ford f150 had tank filled with gas and was driving down road when gas tank fell of found that both straps that held tank had rusted through thankfully we were not moving fast or it is hard to tell what would have happened there is only 125000 mile on vehicle and has been maintained feel that an incident like this is uncalled for that there should have been a safer way of mounting since vehicle had even been rustproofed we are thankfull that this did not happen a high speed for we feel that something grave could have happened to us and anyone behind us if and when it may have exploded. *tr

Email from the office of congressman dingell re constituent who believes ford motor co. maybe in violation of the tread act. *nj the consumer stated the design flaw dates back to the late 1990's. the consumer believed that the ford f series super duty pick-up trucks need to be investigated for a defect that involves the side pole which could cause injuries/deaths during a side impact crash. *jb the consumer claimed that the relationship of the frame rail spacing and occupant seating placed the occupant in undue danger in side impact crashes. especially when the side impact involves the vehicle striking a pole. updated 03/1/10 updated 03/15/10 the consumer stated the fuel leak was a result of a tank strap that rusted. also, the other strap is severely corroded. updated 01/28/11 updated 03/08/11 updated 9/24/13*cn

Broken fuel tank strap. looked at my truck fuel tank hanging low. looked underside front fuel tank strap gone. i had about 20 gallons in tank, or 3/4 full. i was about to head to family's house 25 miles away when noticed,. this was on a saturday morning. went to ford dealer, they had both straps in stock. replaced both straps. took about 30 minutes to replace. *tr

Paint blistering off aluminum hood. two spots where the hood meets the grill about the size of my xl fist and growing. under the hood around the edges showing signs of blistering. washing the hood (not power washing -- by hand) dislodged all the paint off in these areas and now is down to pitted aluminum. *tr

My window on my ford f150 was leaking. water leaked into the cab and into the gem and fusebox. first, my fan stayed on after the key was removed. then a buzzing sound came from around the fusebox. then a beeping sound started coming from around the fusebox. lastly i was driving on the freeway and the whole truck began shaking. it was hard to distinguish what the problem was, flat tire, broken axle? i parked the truck, and went to start it again, and the same shuddering came from the engine. this is very dangerous. i began looking on the internet and found that many people with f150's, expeditions, navigators, etc were all having this problem from years 97-03. this should be a recall - this is very hazardous! *tr

When it rains or snows, water leaks from around the windshield onto fuse box causing electrical failure of wipers, damage to relays, battery draining to dead, and failure of other electrical components. the windshield has no chips or cracks ! *tr

Tl*the contact's spouse owns a 2000 ford f-150. the contact stated that in her spouse's attempt to drive the vehicle, he noticed that half of the tow bar was lying on the ground and the other half was still attached to the vehicle. he wiggled the piece that was still attached and it immediately fell to the ground. the entire tow bar was rusted. the dealer was notified. the current mileage was 60,000 and failure mileage was 54,000.

My factory paint is bubbling up and peeling looks like it is rusting. the hood is all aluminum so it is oxidizing. and more and more paint is coming off. *tr

The paint on the hood of the 2000 f150 truck started bubbling and the paint on the running boards started to flake away. in both areas the paint came off in spots in both areas. while driving i have seen this on numerous f150s, explorers and other ford vehicles. i even noticed this on the passenger's door of a brand new show room ford model. *ak

Crack in drivers side door skin near rear of glass seems to be a factory defect affecting over 60% of ford f150 owners , model year 1997-2000. o repaiir at this time. *ak

Door cracks by window. *ak

Crack in the metal in the driver door at the rear of the window on my 2000 f-150. ford has a tsb but because it is out of warranty, ford will not repair the door. *nm

I have a 2000 ford f-150 4wd suipercab pickup. on the drivers side door, there is a crack starting in the sheet metal. it is currently located to the right of the window, under the weather stripping and is starting to proceed out. currently it is about 3/8" to 1/4" long. there is another one that appears to be starting about an inch above it. i'm concerned that the crack will progress across the door and the door will fail. i'm not the only one with this problem. a website called www.f150online.com. there is numerous complaints (22 pages worth) that has the same problem. i went to a local ford dealer and they said that it is off warranty and there is nothing they can do. they have no way of fixing it. please look into this and help us fix this problem. it will eventually rot out. thank you.*ak

I had my 2000 ford f150 at the dealer before the bumper to bumper ran out with 31000 miles on the truck there was recalls on it for the back window leaking and other things like the speed control i notice the frame and crossmembers rusting out at this time the paint was not doing its job all they had too do was to paint it but they refused to do it, now there is a recall on just the fuel tank straps what about the tank and the frame and crossmembers this truck is a hazard to be on the road this truck should have been fixed at the time when i noticed the problem. the truck has about 78000 original miles on it now and the body looks like it is in real good shape but the frame and crossmembers look like they have 250000 miles on it. is there anything that can be done about this because ford did not do what they should have done back when there was only 31000 miles on it. i only use the truck to go to the doctors and tow a boat 4 or 5 times a year the truck sits in the driveway most of the time. toyota recalled a lot of trucks with this problem frames rusting out beyond repair they had to replace the owners with new trucks or refund the money they paid for them. the toyota's was about the same year as my ford there is a defect in the steel that they used for my truck please help! *tr

I have a structural crack in the metal on the lower rear corner of the drivers side door. it is currently one half inch in length and growing. after doing some research and some investigation on similar ford f150's i have found that this is not an isolated problem, but rather a fairly common one. i have also noticed that this is very issue has been brought to the attention of the ntsb. i called ford today, and received the unsatisfactory answer that, since my warranty is expired a repair is not covered. i hope that the ntsb is looking at this matter closely and will issue a decision on it soon. i am worried that the structural integrity of my vehicle is compromised, and that the manufacturer ford has not taken the proper steps to fix this problem. i believe that ford and the ntsb will be to blame if i or a member of my family is injured because of a documented door failure. *ak

I noticed a 1/2" crack on the drivers side door, next to the power window. i also noticed alot of other complaints on this same crack. i take good care of my truck and see no reason for a stress crack like this. i feel that since there are alot of other complaints, ford should fix this problem as a recall, especially if they are making a kit to fix this. i have been buying and driving ford products for over 20 yrs. this was my first new f150 and i wasn't expecting a problem such as this one!!*ak

My 2000 ford f150 super-cab door is starting to crack, approximately 3" above the bottom of the window. my research on-line shows that many other ford f150 from 1997-2000 are experiencing this same problem. i have been in contact with ford customer service, who state there are no known problems of this type. *la

Metal fatigue on driver and passenger door at window bend by moulding. metal is cracked open large enough so water can enter. *ak

I own a 2000 f150 supercab and the doors are having the popular crack next to the window above the door handle. i have a friend who owns a '97 and both of his doors are doing the same thing. if these cracks continue all the way across the door frame the door will fall apart and will provide no protection in an accident. the local body shop owner has fixed several of the '97 to '02 f150 supercabs. this is obviously a flaw in the design and/or engineering.*ak

My drivers side door on my 2000 f150 is cracking just to the right of the window. *la

I have a 2000 f150 and i too have the famous crack on the driver's door. i talked to my selling dealer, they just wanted to put a new door on my truck at full cost to me. i thought this was real bad as this truck has very low miles. i talked to ford customer support and they denied that there was a problem with door cracks even though i provided the tsb letter to the ford customer support rep. i was told it was not covered under the manufactor's or extended warranty i purchased. furthermore, i was told that i would be responsible for all charges.

Drivers side door crack at bottom of window starting at molding.*ak

I have the same crack in my door everyone else has. went through a ford lot last night and half the used 150's had same crack! talked to dealer and they said i had to pay half to get door fixed. ford know's about this and if they want me to keep buying their products they need to fix this problem.*ak

Corrosion is apperaing from hood seam. ford body shop states they are seeing similar circumstances on these vehicles with the same silver paint. service manager states that ford will not do anything about it until it rusts through. which it never will due to the hood being aluminium.*ak

My 2000 f-150 front cross member that supports radiator and the cab has rusted out. my truck has 48,000 miles. my ford dealer has agreed to replaced front cross member free of charge. est $1,600

1995-2000 ford pickup extended cab the doors crack on the out side that i can see don't know if there damaged internally and i don't know the consequences if it continues to crack. contacted ford motor company they said they knew nothing about it went to various car lots around indianapolis in. and checked others everyone was cracked ford also said there is a fix for this problem at our expense. *nm

The drivers door cracked. the dealer was notified. *nlm

Consumer states that drivers side door is cracking by the upper door near window. *ak

All 5 doors are rusted through on a 2.5 year old truck. the door structure is so weak that they may fall off soon. *jb

Drivers side door sheet metal has developed a crack. the door will no longer close properly. after reading several article's this seems to be a ford factory defect. after talking to ford service they will not repair. they said it was not rusting! *jb

The driver's side door has a crack in the metal and we contacted the dealer and he advised although there is no recall ford has engineered a "door repair kit" and they are willing to fix this defect for a cost of $675.63. if this is not a defect then just why would ford make this door repair kit? this is a separation of metal and the concern we have is if there is an accident what will keep this door from possibly causing a death. i have been in contact with several people who have this exact same issue and ford customer service turns a deaf ear. how do we get this problem to be recognized as a defect by ford motor company? i know if you put the question to the public in regards to how many ford full size trucks have this problem you will have a major response. dt

A stress crack developed from the window to the edge of the driver side door. dealership repaired the crack, but the crack recurred within 25,000 miles. a tsb was issued on this issue.*ak

Crack by drivers window and rust on interior inside of door. *ak

I am experiencing what ford describes as cracks in the door sheet metal on the driver's side door. this may be due to the repeated use of power windows leading to metal fatigue. the truck isn't but 2 years old; this should not happen.

2000 ford f-150 lariat 4 x 4 windshield leaks. as a result of this leak the windshield wipers sporadically go on. the switch is off but the wipers just come on. i have to pull the fuse so it will not happen. when it rains i have to put the fuse back in so they will work.*jb
