Tamara recall. my 2000 model ford f150 was sitting in the driveway last night. it had been parked there since noon. at 11:10 last night, i saw flames coming from outside, and my trucks hood was completely engulfed in flames. wondering what would make it catch on fire.

At approx. 2:22 am on the morning of 3/4/2016, the engine became engulfed in fire after having been parked in the driveway since 3:00 pm on 3/3/2016. we later learned of a number of recalls lead by ford for the replacement of a defective brake switch which would cause this type of fire. we checked the vin of the vehicle with both nhtsa and ford and found that no recall was effective for this particular vehicle. i have attached the fire report and photos.

The vehicle was parked in front of my home, and about 30 minutes after the vehicle was parked, it caught fire. the vehicle had been turned off for about 30 minutes before it began to smoke and then caught fire and flames burned through the entire front of the vehicle. the fire then spread and burned through the tire before the fire department was able to contain and put out the flames. *tr

When trying to back out of my driveway, the truck made a loud popping sound from the engine. when i raised the hood, i could smell unburnt fuel. i then did some research online and found out that this could be a blown spark plug from the cylinder head. i have read many forums and talked to several mechanics about the symptoms i have experienced. all have said this is a very common problem with this engine and other ford engines. i called ford motor co. and they were not aware of any problems with this engine. my local dealer was aware of the problem and therefore stock plenty of ignition coils on hand. this repair is estimated to cost me $400. ford should be responsible for this cost, no questions asked. *tr

On my vehicle i can remove the key, with the vehicle still running. i had actually gotten out of the vehicle with the keys the first time i noticed it, and it was still running. i then climbed back inside ( keys still in my pocket) put the car in drive, and drove around the block. i have to be careful when i exit that the black ring around the key is turned all the way counter clockwise when i exit. i can also remove the keys while i am driving down the road. they actually fell out once while driving. *tr

My truck was parked on my driveway, and had not been driven in about 2wks. i didn't even think that the battery had a charge. my [xxx] wife and a salesman and i just happened to be standing a few feet away having a conversation, when we smelled wires burning. i quickly raised the hood of the truck to see the plug wires connected to the brake master cylinder smoking. at that time i of course disconnected it. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

2000 f-150 ford 5.4 liter continues to have problems with the #5 ignition coil keeps misfiring. i've had this problem dx by my local mechanic over three years and he has repaired it. it cost just utter $200 each time to fix it. i have receipts. today he said to contact the dealer to see it there is a recall. *tr

Our 2000 f150 pickup exploded after being parked for approximately 36 hours. the recall on the cruise control had supposedly been replaced at a ford dealership a couple of years earlier. my husband and i were out of town at the time but fortunately my mother was home and heard the big boom and called 911 for the fire department. she then went down to our house and used a garden hose to keep the grass and surronding area wet so that our home would not catch on fire. the vehicle was a total loss but thankfully my husband wasn't driving it when it happened and my mom was at home to help prevent our house from catching fire also. we feel blessed that all we lost was the truck and not our home or life. the truck was in excellent shape and well maintained . this incident makes us wonder if the ford dealership actually replaced the part under recall.

Driving truck for about an hour, came home, truck sat for about an hour and a half. caught on fire. fire was mainly in the engine compartment and seemed to get the hottest near the drivers side. *tr

My 2000 ford f150 was sitting in my parents driveway as we were visiting. we heard a loud noise but couldn't figure out what it was. when i looked out the window, i saw my truck on fire. my dad got a hose and i called 911 and between dad and the firemen, the fire was put out without hitting the other vehicles nearby or the garage. the f150 is totaled with the hood totally gone and the engine, electrical and other components in the compartment burned up as well as the front windshield and the dashboard. this could have been more serious as i was just about to leave to take my 5 year-old niece home w/my 9 year-old daughter. *tr

The starter motor was engaging while the engine was running with the key in the run position. i had to disconnect the battery to stop it. the heater blower, parking lights, dash light and gauges, key chime, and radio would turn on and off by themselves without a key in the ignition. according to the ford dealer, this was all caused by water leaking in from the windshield causing the fuse block and gem module to short out. they said it was a common occurrence with windshield leaks on 2000 ford f-150's. they had to remove the windshield and reseal it and replace starter, fuse block, and gem module. this windshield was also resealed 2 weeks after buying this vehicle brand new from the dealer in 2000. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford f-150. the contact has been experiencing multiple electrical system failures. the locks and windshield wipers worked sporadically or would not work when the switch was activated. the heater in the vehicle would also work randomly. the volume in the radio would increase while he attempted to turn it down. he called a dealer and the mechanic discovered nhtsa campaign id number 00v072000 (electrical system:fuses and circuit breakers), but it only applied to the ford explorer. the contact was experiencing the same failure as noted in the recall. the vehicle is being taken to the dealer on january 5, 2009 for a diagnosis. the failure mileage was 145,000 and current mileage was 150,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford f-150. on february 10, 2009, the vehicle caught fire while parked. the fire originated underneath the hood. the fire department issued case number 09-0000089 and stated that the fire was caused by the electrical wiring cluster. a report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that the contact would receive a package within 15 business days. the failure and current mileages were 200,000.

My truck was parked and turned off, 5mins later the truck was on fire sorry i need somebody who speaks spanish. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford f-150. the cruise control was deactivated due to leaking brake fluid as noted in nhtsa campaign id number 05v388000 (vehicle speed control). the contact cannot pass a safety inspection because the horn is unplugged due to the cruise control deactivation. the current and failure mileages were 111,000. the consumer stated the speed control deactivation switch leaked brake fluid on the electrical connections and destroyed the wiring to the speed control and horn connections and further stated ford refuses to repair damaged components. updated 11/20/07 *tr

My 2000 ford f150 truck suddenly burst into flames while parked in the driveway. the fire was located under the hood on the drivers side. it burned and melted the brake fluid reservoir and several wires in the area. there was also major damage done to all of the plastic parts on top of and around the motor. *jb

Ford motor company is not contacting current vehicle owners of serious recall notices. i surrendered my 2000 ford f150 pickup to barber ford of ventura, california when i traded it in for a newer model. since then, i have received numerous notices on safety recall #05s28 for this vehicle. i have contacted ford motor company numerous times and asked them to contact the current owner with no resolution. i have now received another notice dated july 2007. today i called the nhtsa to file a complaint that ford is not contacting the current owner of the vehicle of a serious safety recall per federal regulation. i was told by your staff that she would not take a complaint, that i needed to contact ford, or the ca attorney general's office, or the federal trade commission. i have already contacted ford numerous times with no resolution, was referred back to the nhtsa by the ca attorney general's office, and referred to the nhtsa by the federal trade commission. so, here i am, back to you, the nhtsa. ford motor company is not complying with federal regulation and nobody is willing to enforce the regulation, not even the nhtsa. any suggestions????? thank you. *tr

My 2000 ford f-150 burned to a crisp last night. i had driven the vehicle and parked it in my driveway and was inside putting the groceries away when i heard a "boom" outside and when i ran out i observed a fired from the engine compartment. it appears to me that the vehicle is totaled. there was some minor damage to my residence and i now have a really cool looking garbage can from the heat of the fire. friends informed me today that there have been numerous recalls, and similar incidents, but i have not heard about any recalls. what can i do about this besides contacting my insurance company(s)? *nm

Tl* - the contact's engine caught on fire earlier this week on his ford f-150. the arson inspector informed the contact that the fire was caused by a failure of his cruise control switch. the contact states that the weather was bright and sunny on the day of the failure.

I got off work at 6:00 pm and went straight to the gym (approx. 1 mi.). i left the gym at 7:00 pm, and drove home (approx 1 mi.). i got home about 7:15 pm and went inside and watched television with my family until 8:30 pm, which is when i went to bed. my wife and i woke up at 11:30 pm from a bright light coming through our bedroom window. when we looked out the window the light we had seen was the whole front end of my 2000 ford f-150 engulfed in flames. we called 911 and the fire dept. responded. my wife's car a 2002 hyundai accent was parked in front of the truck and had the rear bumper and tail lights melted on it before i could get it moved. about 1 year ago i had to have the mass flow air sensor replaced on the truck and the dealership supposedly took care of the cruise control recall that was placed on that model. *jb

We have fallen victim to ford's compartment fire issue. from everything we have just researched, it appears our f150 caught on fire around 5 am sunday july 30. it had been parked since 10:30 pm. in trying to research this bizaare incident, i discovered their recall which i never received. i have owned the vehicle since 2001. i have not had any prior problems with the vehicle, which is why i found this so bizaare to wake up at 5 am to my wife yelling "your truck is on fire!". luckily, i have never been motivated to clean our garage so we could park inside. however, our home did suffer damage to the siding. ford is not being aggressive in ensuring this is being handled. *jb
