Ford excursion with 2700 miles showed severe weather checking on the white letter side of all four tire sidewalls. the tires appeared as if they were rotting away. a ford dealership said that they were not in the tire business and refused to discuss the problem. firestone indicated that it was normal wear until i indicated that i wanted their opinion in writing. firestone then replaced all four tires, charging me for labor, balancing, stems, etc. the media has indicated that these tires are now failing like those found on the ford explorers. i have no faith in firestone or the tires and would like to see an immediate recall on the steeltex radials. dt
