Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic because the engine coolant indicator was displayed as low. the mechanic filled the coolant reservoir and referred the contact to the dealer. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 44,000.
While driving fault engine service now light keeps coming on tool it to the dealership and they said it was a p1450 purge valve that needed to be replaced did that and the light keeps coming on and while driving it loses acceleration as if it wants to cut off and the car keeps cutting off when starting the car this has been an ongoing issue for 2 or more months
I have noticed that after applying normal pressure to the brakes, the abs indicator and the hill assist notice appear. also another warning light comes on the dash board. also, the speedometer doesn't work anymore. when this happens the engine will not turn off. this has happened 10 times in the past 2 weeks. eventually the engine will torn itself off after approximately 20-30 minutes. i noticed that the abs light comes on after stopping at a light. it may come on at other times while i am driving the vehicle, but i notice the light when stopped at a traffic light or pulling into a parking space.
I'm not sure but i feel like there might be an issue with my ford escape transmission. i bought the car in not even 2 years ago and now i'm being told that i either need new transmission or to have mine rebuilt and this doesn't seem right'.how is that a car that is barley 3 years old, and bought brand new needs a whole new transmission. i am concern because i have a child and i am currently pregnant and my car is slipping in out of gear while driving on the streets of toledo. i am on fix income this why i bought what i thought was a reliable new car, i don't have the money to correct ford's mistake. i hope this mater can be looked into any help would be greatly appreciated.

The car shuts off while driving at any speed. it has done this at highway speed and slower. cannot pull out into traffic for fear of the engine will shut off without warning.
After the mechanic replaced the spark plugs and coil in cylinder 2 last week, they noted coolant in the cylinder. not even a week later, the engine is leaking coolant into the cylinder. this situation has been known to cause damage to the cylinder and cause an oil leak which can cause fire. the mechanics say they can do nothing else to fix it and ford refuses to fix the issue. i know this has been a known issue in earlier models of ford escapes and it looks like it is the same issue.
My car had a problem idling last week. got it to the mechanic. mechanic tried to change the spark plug due to a problem in the cylinder but spark plug was frozen. found coolant underneath. mechanic had worked as a mechanic at a ford dealership, said this problem was prevalent with fords. i contacted ford. the ford representative said i had no extended warranty and that there was no recall on the product so there was nothing they could do. the only long-term fix is an entirely new engine because coolant is leaking from the engine. the car is only three years old.
I pulled out into an intersection to turn left going between 5-10 mph when my ford escape stalled. the electronics remained on, the check engine light turned on and it displayed a message that read "transmission not in park". the car was still in drive. i was able to safely roll the car to the side of the road. i was able to successfully restart the car first try.
I just bought this 2016 ford escape in october, 2018. it made it until mar. 2019. no warning light, nothing. it has 78,000 miles and the transmission blew. they are telling me at the jensen ford dealership that it will cost 6,508.00 due to all that is wrong with the transmission. when it gets hot it leaks transmission fluid badly. it took only 2 days and no warning and it blew. now i can't pay for it, ford will not pay for it and i believe they should.
This complaint is a follow-up to one filed earlier (11181564). the problem is now solved this wire issue is not the one in the tsb and not currently in a recall. this vehicle at approximately 43,000 miles produced the same symptoms as the tsb 13-12-12. motor suddenly stalling, backfire sometimes, rough running, loss of power, etc. the wire harness had worn through the wrap and eventually one of the wires in the bundle atop the motor made intermittent contact with a part of the motor. this caused the pcm to throw numerous codes and disable critical safety systems. random, erratic and unpredictable. wire bundle aligned with the fuel rail begins at the driver side of the motor. at the point where it begins up come to the motor there is a post (aluminum, top, front, drivers' side of motor). this wire bundle was not sufficiently protected from chaffing. the remainder of the wire is well secured and insulated but this point is literally and accident waiting to happen. this was very difficult to find as the problem as it was so intermittent. not covered under 5/60 warranty and my dealer charged me $318.00. in total i've spent over $600 the getting this figured out and resolved. this last breakdown placed my family in great danger as there was no safe place to get off the road (70 mph interstate with little shoulder and merging state highway). this was the third time having to tow this vehicle for this. i am certain others will experience this failure and i hope no one gets hurt. in my case it also disabled the restraint systems and airbags when it occurred.
I bought my '16 ford escape over a year ago. i was driving the vehicle about 2 weeks ago just fine when turning in an intersection the engine completely died. i had to pull over and restart the engine. it was driving without issues until this past week when i was driving the vehicle and while in motion the engine completely dies. again i turn the ignition off and back on. it is a major safety hazzard as the car complete goes into a cost while in the middle of driving it.
2016 escape with no history or problems prior to events here. during a trip from home approximately 50 miles away vehicle operated just fine. after a 5 min stop, i re-entered and started the vehicle. after about 2 miles and while on the highway traveling 70 mph vehicle suddenly shuttered and acceleration aggravated this situation. power loss was present, and vehicle stalled out. i coasted to shoulder. attempted numerous restarts that would seem to catch but soon stall out. eventually got the vehicle to run enough to limp off the highway. very low power. parked for 20 min and restarted with no apparent issue. engine light was present since first stall. drove about 1 mile and symptoms returned. low power and stalled out. vehicle restarted and i again limped off highway. eventually got to exit and off into a parking lot. numerous stalls and never any real power. waited for a tow from there and vehicle restarted with no issues when driving it onto the tow trailer. fuel pressures were normal, and codes were p06a7, p0106 and p0236 were present and permanent which was also a new development. permanent codes have been elusive. a previous recall on 2013-2014 escapes fits this issue exactly. after numerous hours of research, i am convinced this is the same issue involved in the previous ford tsb 13-12-12 and the previous tsb 13-7-5. i was in great danger when this vehicle stalled on the highway without warning. rush hour traffic on 70 plus mph road with almost no shoulder. because of this and the disabling of the airbags when this failure occurs along with the seat belt actuators, i think it's reasonable to assume this is a safety issue. i'm confident this issue can be replicated.
Prior ford recall does not include my model and year but experiencing same issues as noted in recall #16s46 and dealer will not cover expenses. the turbocharger oil supply lines may not be brazed properly, resulting in an engine oil leak. oil supply lines to the turbocharger in the engine compartment may leak engine oil. this could allow oil to leak onto hot engine components, creating a fire hazard. our recent oil change, not at ford, indicated that the mechanic identified an oil leak that is coming from the turbo line.
I was driving on a residential road on 11-24-18, on my way home when i hear a vibrating noise. i think it is my phone, but all of a sudden the car stalls. thankfully i had no cars behind me so i power it down and then tune it back on and it gives a little issue turning back on but does. i make it home. it works fine the next few days. on 11-27-18 after only driving locally in between i take my ford on the highway to go to the airport 30 mins away and all is fine until the ride back home on the highway. i hear the vibrating noise again as if i was going over rumble strips on 95. the car goes on a little longer and then shuts down again. power remains on but the car stalls. i am taking it in today. i hope to get this resolved as fast as possible. i bought a new car for a reason. reliability and now i am just annoyed that this is happening with only 32k miles on the 2016 escape.
Engine fault service now message repeatedly show up while driving, took it to have serviced, was told nothing was wrong, and the message no hill assistance available shows up as well, bought car in 2016, has 18,553, miles on it.
Engine fault service now message appears on dash while driving, and no hill assistance available, took it have service was told nothing was wrong, brought car in 2016 with an 150 miles on it, now have 18,553 miles as of today.
Vehicle was parked in a town center parking lot, and i went in to a restaurant to have dinner. after about 5-10 minutes, several people came running in to advise that a grey ford was on fire in the parking lot. i have a silver 2016 ford escape, so i went out to see if i needed to move my car, and to my surprise realized that it was my car on fire. the entire engine compartment was in flames ... and the fire department arrived shortly thereafter to put the fire out. the vehicle appears totaled and my insurance company has towed it away. the engine was a 1.6l turbocharged model ... and on checking on the internet, there appear to have been multiple engine fires with this model engine. i never received a recall notice or any other type of notification from ford motors, and the vehicle ran totally fine until the fire, with no coolant leaks, or engine overheating.
Electronic throttle body - the car stalled out on the freeway. prior to stalling, the car was shaking and then stalled.
I purchased a 2016 ford escape in late 2015 and in 2018 with 30000 miles the engine let go, requiring a replacement engine. additional, issues developed as the vehicle would be delayed for a month and was driven by an underage driver. thus no one would provide a rental car for her to leave the state. the only option given was to trade a vehicle under warranty back to the ford dealership. during this process we learned that the state would require title changes requiring branding for incorrect mileage. we have since identified the vehicle was repaired and sold for more than ford allowed on the trade. secondarily it does not appear the title was properly branded. when contacting ford executives in writing (certified mail) i received no response after 2 attempts for resolution. upon calling their complaint department, i was told there was no open case when asked if one could be opened, i was told "you are the owner and there is nothing we can do for you". with much perseverance and sharing knowledge regarding current recalls; for the very problem we experienced a case number was provided; but would not grant a timeline for future expectations. this the same engine as in the ford focus which is currently under a massive recall. the vehicle sounds started while in motion, but the engine blew up while in the shop under a defined diagnostic test that ford was running per there recall program bulletin.
We frequently drive from midway, ut to salt lake city, ut on i-80 where the highway goes through parley's canyon and experiences 6-7% grades. we were driving home in the far left lane of i-80 when, without warning, the car lost speed from 70 mph to 40 mph. we tried to accelerate to no avail. we moved as quickly as possible to the far right lane and exited the highway. the message that displayed listed engine overheating as the issue but the temperature gauge showed normal temperature. we contacted our ford dealer about what happened and learned that there is a sensor on this car the detects possible engine overheating and automatically reduces your speed. we wrote to ford motor company customer service to make them aware of what we believe is potentially a dangerous situation. while this may be the design point of the sensor, it is certainly dangerous for drivers, especially at highway speeds, to have the car loose speed without warning. we were very fortunate to be able to exit the interstate without incident. ford wrote back to us and informed us that this sensor is to prevent damage to the engine and to allow us time to get to a service facility. while we appreciate the vast array of technology advancements now available that provide the public smarter and safer vehicles, taking this kind of control away from a driver at highway speeds without any warning based on our experience is quite unsafe. obviously the sensor is not sensing the driver's situation or location when the car suddenly looses speed. ford has further suggested that we share our experience on ford social where we can post questions for ford's engineers and design team. is the nhtsa aware of this issue? if so, what is their opinion about this technology? are we overreacting?
Driving on the highway car just shuts down with engine fault car stopped responding making it a real safety issue. i see this has a closed recall already but i don't think they have included all the cars affected.
Car stalls while driving. starts back up
While driving or accelerating from a stop, the car will stall and/or the engine will shut off. the problem has been on going since march 2018, when it was first noticed. the car was taken back to the dealership on apr 2018 and they were unable to determine the cause. after 3 visits for the same problem, the dealership replaced the fuel sensor. on may 26, 2018, the car failed again. the "service engine" light came on this time whereas, previously it did not. the car was taken to the nearest ford dealership. the throttle valve was replaced per the code. however, the car continued to stall and failed again. service engine light di come on - but since has "reset" because it is now gone. my concern over the stalling is that it happens at any time and at any speed. the reaction is as if the car is running out of gas where it spits and sputters. if a semi is behind me at 65-70 mph, they will ram into me because the decrease in speed would not give them time to react. so dangerous. since april 2018, the car has been in for the same problem - 4 times and needs to go back again. bottom line - no one knows what to do to correct.
While driving on 85n in atanta, ga, while roughly driving at a speed of 65mph in the middle lane at 7am on friday, january 12, 2018, the battery light came on and the car shut completely off and with no warning! i take excellent care of the car with routine maintenance and have approximately 51k miles on it. for this car to turn off in the middle of morning rush hour traffic on an atlanta major interstate, not only endangered my life but the lives of hundreds of other drivers! thankfully there was a gap in the traffic behind me so i was able to guide the car out of the middle of the interstate since while the car was still in movement but with no power. i barely made on to the shoulder. after sitting on the shoulder for over 30 mins, waiting on a tow truck, the car finally started back up. i still had it towed to the ford dealership where i purchased it and have my maintenance done on the car. after having the car for 3 days i was told that they can not "duplicate the error". diagnostics were run on the car multiple times and no issues were found. this is unacceptable. it is not normal for a car to turn off in the middle of a major interstate and for the cars computer to not have a record of the shut down. in addition to that, what if it happens again but i am injured or injure someone else! i've looked at other complaints for the same type of vehicle and other motorists have experienced the same type of problem; the car turning off while driving. something is seriously wrong with the 2016 ford escape and ford isn't properly addressing the problems!
I was waiting for the red light in the road. after the light turned green, i stepped on the gas pedal, however, the car didn't move at all. it stopped there. i had to restart the car to make it move again. it happened on 2017 sep, 11/29/2017 and 11/30/2017. three times already.
Safety hazard and serious life threatening situation exists when this problem occurs on the highway and especially in front of a semi tractor trailer truck doing the speed limit. numerous times, (12 times between 14,000 and 15,363 miles) the 2016 ford escape has had complete power loss during acceleration causing vehicle to abruptly begin shaking, lose power, lose steering, lose braking and immediately shudder to a stop. service engine light comes on, message reads: engine fault service now. (see attached photo) engine remains running. if one tries to continue driving the vehicle stumble and won't shift from low gear without a very hard torquing sound. this ford escape broke down in front of a ford dealer and the code read by this dealers computer is p0322-pcm. according to an internet search the p0322 code definition: if the pcm (powertrain control module) detects an erratic, interrupted, or otherwise unexpected input signal from the distributor or the crankshaft position sensor, it will store the p0322 code, and the check engine light will be turned on. on this vehicle the code is only active when the fault occurs, and the engine is running. the codes do not store in memory. ignition can be shut off, the warning message disappears and many times the car is able to be driven again for miles before reoccurring. the leasing dealer states they have a process to follow in order to fix the problem. they have to replicate the problem or they do nothing. using my printout from another dealer with the code is meaningless to them, even though they know the source of the problem and that the condition is life threatening. they say that if i feel the condition is life threatening then do not drive the car. a formal case has been opened with ford customer assistance, however they only notify the service manager that there is a problem, which he already knows.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford escape. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle hesitated and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle actuator system malfunctioned. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact was unable to contact the local dealer due to an ongoing strike at the dealer. the manufacturer was contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 8,592.
Losing engine coolant.
Carbon monoxide: there is a strong smell of exhaust frequently in the vehicle. i turned on a multi-gas monitor to find carbon monoxide levels as high as 100 ppm and oxygen concentrations below 19%. this occurs at idle as well as while driving. there does not appear to be any difference between windows rolled up or down, air on or off, or recirculation on or off. i do not get any warning lights on the dash. i searched the internet and saw that there was a similar issue with 2011-2014 explorers but not much information on the escape. i called my local dealership and there were not aware of an issue either. i have an appointment to take it in and see what can be done to fix the problem. the only mechanical problem that the vehicle has is a warning light and reduction of power when the turbo charger gets overheated. *tr
I was driving about 60 mph on interstate 95 when the vehicle suddenly shut off while in motion and i ran into the back of a 18 wheeler truck. thankfully i was not hurt. ford insists they cannot find anything wrong with the car. *tr
Engine shuts down while driving and the service engine now light come on. i was in the passing lane doing 65mph this morning when it cut out. i was lucky to make it into the breakdown lane without getting hit. i put the car in park and the engine sputters like it is only running on one cylinder. if i shut it off and restart it, the service engine now light go out. the car only has 11,000 miles on it. i took it to the dealer and was told that unless the service engine now light was on, they cant fix it. this issue has happened 3 times over the course of two weeks. i am afraid i will get into an accident when this happens.
Electronic throttle body - the car stalled out on the freeway. prior to stalling, the car was shaking and then stalled.
Just turned over 9,000 miles on my 2016 ford escape when all of a sudden the engine "stalls" and starts to shudder with the engine fault light coming on. no control over accelerator. or steering. thank goodness i was not turning on a busy street or trying to get on a major highway. i was barely able to pull off of the street since the car would hardly go. i shut off the car, started it again and it seemed fine. i pulled back on the street and it did it again. pulled over and did the same thing, got back on the street and it stalled for the 3rd time. i pulled over and immediately called my local ford dealer. the car had to be towed to the ford dealer, it was unsafe and unable to drive. i was told told today it was the throttle body that needed replaced. this is very dangerous to be sitting dead in the water like that on a busy street, i could have been rear ended or even killed if i had been on an interstate or busy 4 lane. my local ford dealership was wonderful to work with and immediately came to rescue me!
While driving the ford escape on a main road today the vehicle suddenly started to idle very rough, the orange wrench light came on and i could not accelerate. the car decelerated rapidly as i was going up a slight hill. i was able to coast into a parking lot, where i shut the car off for several minutes, then turned it back on and proceeded home. i have called the ford dealership to bring the car in for service. *tr
While driving down the interstate at 70 mph my vehicle died. no power steering. very dangerous. the screen said 'engine fault'. managed to get to the shoulder and it restarted right away. drove a little further, same thing. managed to get it home but it did this 4 times over the course of the weekend. it is at the shop today but there are no lights on now so i don't know if they will be able to find the problem.
Was driving and vehicle began shuddering violently and service engine now came on and vehicle engine died. thank goodness i was not on the highway yet and four people helped to push me out of the way.
While driving at highway speeds (roughly 70 mph) my vehicle completely turned off with no warning and said "engine fault. service now". by the grace of god i did not get rear ended. i successfully restarted the vehicle and made it home. the same thing happened the next morning, this time on city streets going roughly 20 mph during rush hour. against, i was beyond lucky to have not gotten injured or worse and there was no warning again.
I was traveling 60 mph when the engine started shaking violently, i lost the ability to accelerate and the check engine light came on with an error message of "engine fault". once i made it to the side of the road, the engine idled down to 400 and shut off. i tried to crank it up again and the engine immediately started jumping violently. vehicle was towed to the ford dealership and they said it was recall 16b32.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly reduced speed and a "service engine" message was displayed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 22,000.
Lsudden complete loss of power unexpectedly driving at low or high speed. ruff running without ability to accelerate. waring message of "hill assit" not activated. very dangerous senario while on interstate. occurred 3 (three) times in 2 days. car was a hertz rental car and i was told, after compaining that requested car was not available, that this car is better and more reliable than my requested toyota rav 4. thinking back it's as if they knew about the escape's liability.
