Problems with 2013 Ford Escape ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

On average, the 2013 Ford Escape starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL and its various aspects after 74 937 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2013 Ford Escape

My check engine light came on and i received an error reading stating my engine coolant is low. i checked coolant and it is full. my car started to stall while i was driving it. i looked up info on this website which mimicked my issues exactly. the ford recall campaign number is 12s41. i called ford motor compay customer relationship center and asked them about my car and explained the problems and how they mimicked the recall listed above. they said my car was not included in that. i informed them that it was a 2013 escape which shows to fall under it and they told me that my car probably didn't get made with the same parts and may have been made at a different time. i will now have to pay out of pocket and i have a hard time doing that since obviously the symptoms mimic the recall. my vehicle is in motion when it stalls out and tells me my system is overheating and to pull over. it is a random thing. it can happen when just started or when i'm driving down the road.

I was driving my family from houston, tx to san antonio,tx on july 5th 2019 for the holiday weekend in my 2013 ford escape sel with the 6f35 transmission. we were about 1 hour & 30 minutes into our trip, 108 miles, from our home near the city of flatonia, tx when our transmission horrifically failed. while i was driving i noticed the transmission had a made a hard shift into 6th gear. it had jumped a couple of times until i accelerated and then it finally shifted into 6th gear. the next sign of trouble was when the dash screen told us the lane change sensor was failing. next we started noticing a faint burning smell coming into the cabin, we weren't sure what it was. a minute later all the warning lights turned on in the dash screen. i immediately put on my turn signal so i could get to an exit and when trying to accelerate out of the way of traffic, i realized my ford escape was not responding to the acceleration pedal. it would not accelerate at all. so now i couldn't shift and my gas pedal was not functioning. i finally reached the nearest exit turned on my hazard lights and proceeded to coast into the nearest gas station since my gas pedal was not functioning. as soon as i stopped & turned off my suv, white smoke was coming from the engine bay. i quickly got my wife and 1 yr old daughter out of the suv and ran away from the vehicle. thankfully the smoke stopped and i opened the hood and saw transmission oil all over the top of the transmission. it was so hot it was boiling in the crevices where it had settled. this transmission is supposed to have "a special blend of transmission fluid maintenance free for the life of the gearbox." a couple days prior the transmission would jump erratically when shifting from 2-3 gear and from 5-6 gear even though it was an automatic transmission.but i had taken it to a ford dealer and they didn't help at all.

My car constantly stalls. it stalled periodically but i thought well maybe it's was because of how hot it was outside. but that it's the case. i can be at a light stopped, driving down the street/expressway and it'll start to lose stutter and stall out with only the battery light and oil lamp light coming on. sometimes itll start right back up others it has it sit and cool down. even tho my engine isn't reading hot or anything along those lines. everything reads fine. i've taken to multiple shops and finally just 5 days ago to a ford dealer who had my car for almost 3 days and all he could say is it looks like i could possibly have a cracked water pump! they need to do something for us with the 1.6 it seems to be the same exact thing going on with the 2.0. today when my car stalled my oil dipstick was smoking

Informational display behind steering started flickering and now does not light up so i cannot see mileage or anything else thats going on with vehicle. i have attached a pic of what my display shld look like, however the middle display in my vehicle is black, nothing will display. the flickering started last month and now my display is completely black/blank

I have a transmission fault service soon error ! the car seems to think its in park while driven. it staules seems that it is slipping out of gears by its self

Car stalled several times while going about 10-15 mph and this is about the tenth time this has happened in several days.

At every fill up the car stalls.now i have to hold the gaz to a certain level to avoid stalling after every fill up.if i ever let the pump to automatically fill the tank and stop itself i get in a lot of troubles for day.the idéale is bad and the car stalls now in stead of filling my tank to 12 or 13 gallons i have to stop the pump at 10 or 11 gallons to avoid the inconvenience of having car idling hard and even stalling

02/03/2019 i purchased the car 12/31/2018. these things occurred in the vehicle when it was stationary, taking off and excelling, in motion, on a city street and on a highway (interstate), driving straight, turning, braking, and on inclines and down hill. it also involves fuel/propulsion, engine, speed control, suspension, wheels. it started with the dash lighting up with no key in it. then it started a hard idle almost shutting down the vehicle. since i had it in last week, there is rattling, popping, grinding sounds with grabbing and pulling under the back of the car. now it is the traction and intelligence control all wheel warnings and shutting down the control on its own. it stalls in traffic while the computer attempts corrections that fail to correct it. it has slid from one side of an off ramp to the other side, because the traction/all wheel intelligence could not get traction. i could not control the car. grateful there was no one in the other lane. it is putting my life and everyone around me in serious danger of being killed. i have mentioned some of the issues prior to the last service on it and taken it to (purchased from) jarrett gordon ford winter haven, fl and (work done at) jarrett scott ford plant city, fl. i am told they can't diagnosis it unless it is doing this with them. i will be taking it back in tomorrow with all the new issues going on with it. it is seriously dangerous and getting progressively worse. i've already had the oil changed, transmission fluid drained and refilled, fuel induction, injector serviced (it did not help with fuel consumption), tune-up, plugs changed (did not help), coolant flush. this needs to be addressed before i die or any others die as a result of this vehicles issues. these liability issues belong to ford company, not me. all this since i purchased it 12/31/2018 proof of contacting 6 + members of the dealerships. *tr

My 2013 ford escape has stalled several times while driving, only to restart again and seem fine. recently it stalled and would not start up.

Engine hesitates, stumbles, or loses power. the check engine light will be illuminated. have replaced ecoboost sensor and still have the same problems. i do not feel that it is safe to drive this car.

My vehicle was going 45 mph in motion down the highway and the check engine light came on. about 4 miles down the road my car flashed the "engine overheating" signed and within 5 seconds the car came to a stop and stall in limp mode. this is not safe especially since i was on a highway, and where i live there are highways every where that take me where i need to be. took to ford dealer a mile or so down the road, and they tested it for everything and they sent me on my way with no work done, just conducted a road test after resetting the codes and light did not come back on. about 15 miles later, the car did the exact same thing again on the same highway, going 45, check engine light came on and the car went into limp mode again. took to the ford dealer next day and told me that the standpipe is malfunctioning causing the overheating in the engine cooling system. but, fixing this piece does not fix the problem. my car was fixed for this same issue in 2014, by the 13s12. and yet, this issue is happening again. i do have the 2013 ford escape with the 1.6l engine that has frequently dealt with this problem. driving this car is very unsafe due to the car abruptly stopping if this problem happens, the car stalls and can easily overheat. as the dealer has only suggested installing a new coolant level sensor (standpipe) with new hardware and software, we see that this problem has not worked in previous 2013 ford escapes. having this car on the road is a safety hazzards. with over 3 pages of my ford escape alone with factory recalls, this car should not be allowed on the road. i hope this gets fixed, or at least a recall for this car or an investigation is put in action. this car is not safe in any terms or conditions and i do not want this causing any potential fatalities.

Recall 14v495000 says it all. lost of power with no warning when pulling into a street or just out of the blue. once pulling on to a highway, once in a parking lot. you never know when or where when you lose power. it start back up with no problem.

When i turned on the car to get back home from the grocery store the screen showed "steering wheel at fault." the steering wheel was very hard to turn and i had to get home so i managed to get the car to the house. the next morning, the same thing happened again and because of this problem i could not take my car to a trip where i had already planned, now i can't drive it to work either, it has been two days and the same problem remains.

When i'm running in normal speed sometime the acceleration is not working just like lost compression, then it's coming back in few of seconds..

The vehicle continuously sputters, and then dies while in driving mode - normally pulling out into traffic. we have been almost hit numerous times. in an hour time span, yesterday, it happened 10 times, today in a 15 minute timespan, 3 times. am an uber driver and cannot put their lives in jeopardy - going to get someone killed. this happens in all situations - whether idling in line to pull out into traffic at a light, or while driving. has even happened while traveling down the highway. it starts to sputter, and then just shuts off. sometimes you can place in neutral and restart, but other times, you must coast to side of street, place in park, and then try to restart. there are 100s of incidences on the internet showing the same symptoms. please help resolve this. going to the ford dealership is not the answer - they tell me they cannot "duplicate" the issue and therefor do not know how to "fix" it. in the meantime, this is extremely unsafe, and a lawsuit waiting to happen. this has been occurring the entire month of december - on the 18th - 10 times in a 3 hour timespan - today, the 19th - 3 times in a 15 minute timespan. this is an everyday issue and getting work. this is preventing using this vehicle as an uber driver, and seriously impacting our income. there needs to be a recall. there is a tech service bulletin - tsb-13-12-12; nhtsa-10054363; dtc po106, po236.

Car continued to shut off while driving locking up steering, brakes, etc. car was brought to tunkhannock ford on 10/24 and remained there until 5 p.m. on 10/27. told was doing it for them. i'm informed by a tunkhannock ford employee, the car was only taken out off lot & test 1 time. on 10/28, my wife, 4 & 8 yr. old are driving & the car stopped 7 times total on route 6 in tunkhannock where a truck driver got out and assisted my wife as she was stuck in the middle of the highway with flashers on. after arguing with the service writer, sales manager for compromising the safety of my wife and daughters - i was still denied a loaner vehicle where we paid enterprise for a rental in order to get to work. i requested a loaner from their other tunkhannock dealership and was still denied and all i was told by matt kerr, sales manager is "i understand your concern, i have young children also but it's out of my hands." effective today 11/3/17, they still have our spare key & have yet to call to check on the status of the appointment that i did not go to scheduled for 10/30/17. i called montrose motors owned by the same previous owner of gateway ford where this car was purchased and they got it in immediately - provided a loaner vehicle hassle free and said many loyal customers have left tunkhannock ford for their crudeness with service by writing up work orders for loyal customers bringing their vehicles in for air - we don't care how long they needed to assess the car - our formal complaint which we are pursuing is tunhannock ford has jeporadized the safety and well-being of my family - especially my 2 daughters by denying me a loaner vehicle

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving 20 mph, an abnormal burning odor entered through the engine compartment and the oil warning indicator illuminated. the contact managed to pull the vehicle over into a parking lot. the contact and passenger exited the vehicle and observed smoke under the vehicle and oil leaking profusely from under the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the local dealer. the local dealer (crown ford, 420 merrick rd, lynbrook, ny, 11563, 516-599-0600) did not diagnose the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. in addition, the contact mentioned that the oil had just been changed two weeks prior at chatham ford (781 main st, chatham, ma, 02633, 508-945-0500). the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 84,000.

My car has ran a 100% since the day i bought it. i went to go move my car after i cut my grass and instantly my power steering sensor went off as soon as i started my car stating that it required service due to it not working. just like that. no earlier warnings, no malfunctions prior to this incident, nothing. i am a mother of 4 daughters and thankfully i was just trying to reposition my vehicle in my yard vs. driving down the road or else it could have caused severe bodily harm to us or even worse, it could have caused a major accident that could have resulted in death. i called the ford dealership and they stated even with so many complaints on this particular model, make, and year having this exact problem, this is not a recall yet. i researched it myself and found out that the 2013 ford fusion also has this problem, but there is currently an active recall for the fusion, but not the escape. i am confused on this. are they waiting on a death toll to rise due to ford's malfunctioning part and a lawsuit before they decide that this is a real serious issue or is it because of the lack of concern for fords customers and families they had when they decided to use this poorly planned electrical design that is continuously malfunctioning? or maybe its because they know that this is a big issue and charging customers over $1700.00 to fix this poorly planned product that is going to cost someone their lives was going to make their service department revenue sky rise with this power steering problem being high in demand. i don't understand why one model of ford with the same year is on recall for this, but the other model with the exact same set up and year is not. i am a single mother of 4 daughters that is still paying on this $19,000.00 vehicle that is now parked in my yard because it is too expensive to fix. thanks ford!!!

My vehicle is telling me my coolant is low but it is not its also telling me im due for an oil change and has been coming off and on for the past 10 months ive had it serviced numberous(8) times had my coolant flushed and sensors checked. had it serviced at the place i bought it and at airport ford. even had my motor replaced 5 months ago. this issue is keeping me from driving my vehicle because once its (hot) it will shut the vehicle down..i can get in it start it after not driving it for hrs and pull out of my driveway and it says its over-heating. and will say stop safely. and the vehicle will shut down. ive been stranded 3 times from this happening. i check the coolant and its not low or over full. i really hope nothing happens while im driving or when i have my 3 yr old daughter in the car with me. thank god its only been on my way home from work.the place were i bought the vehicle has my paperwork for the replacement of the motor. and the cost.

This car showed a problem around march 2017 when it randomly stalled and did while in park at a parking lot. after that it would run fine for months at a time and then i would have the same problem of it stalling out and dying while parked or when the car was in park. i have replaced the battery 2 times in the last 2 years and something keeps frying my battery. the problem has escalated in the last 6 months to the point where the car now just dies while driving without any real warning and is unsafe to drive. i tried taking it to a ford dealership and they could not figure it out and had a hard time recreating what i had described was happening. they told me to replace the fuel pressure sensor, but it had already been replaced 2 weeks prior to it going to that dealership. they basically told me to throw money blindly at the engine to the tune of 3k to 4k or trade it in on something else. those were the options given to me by ford. the problems did not really start until after 80k miles and the car is worse once it has been running for a little while, gets worse when you run the heater and game over if the ac or defrost are on. my mpg are horrible but i dont even know for sure because i will look at the gas gauge turn the car off and when i come back from letting it sit the amount of fuel showing has gone back up considerably. also my mils to empty randomly went from the gas light turning on at 30 miles to empty to 50 miles to empty. my car acts like it has a traumatic brain injury and one moment it seems ok and the next is all over the place. we cant even drive it anymore because it is too dangerous and unpredictable.

As many other ford escape 2013 owners, my car stopped working properly putting my life and those of my wife and kids at risk. it started when the engin began to cut off when idle. at the begining, there were no check engine light. car will restart but a 150 m later the engine will start fighting to stay on and most of the time the engine lose the battle. so i restart again until ( after 2, or 3 times) the engine stays constantly on. my big concern was with the hazardous and risky situations i found myself in, specially while getting inro a busy road or a high way and having the engine to shut down andlet i didn't have time when the engine let me out of power. some drivers are in hurry and might not have the time to stop their vehicle before hitting me. that's why i always parked my car on the sidewalks while in distress. when i took the car to one of ford dealers, they couldn't find the issue. i took it to a private mechanic and he made me change a lot of pieces but still not fixed yet. i am going back to the dealer and hopefully they'll fix the issue. it cost me $ 2500 until now and still looking for the issue.

After starting my 2013 ford escape, the instrument cluster information display with system warnings and only odometer display went blank. technicians checked for a bad fuse, but none found. also, found that there is a recall (15c03 - reprogram instrument panel cluster) issued against 2014 ford escape for the same issue.

Takata recall. the computer system has run irregularly since purchase. the vehicle stalls when being driven after the first 10 miles or so on city streets. have to pull to the side of the road, turn key off, restart engine... may require several times before the vehicle can proceed.

My engine light came on and my car started to stall and not drive. it started to skip and at as if it was not going to go while driving. when i stopped it started to act as if it was going to cut off in the street. i had to get it towed to a dealership. they said it was my engine wiring system. cost 500 dollars to fix.

Takata recall.i keep getting an engine light on and i took it to auto zone to find out why. they said it was a coolant bypass value.i see where there was a recall for this but when i called ford they said it was fixed. they said to keep my receipt and if there was another recall for this problem i could send my paper work in and i would be reimbursed. apparently the problem was not fixed. why should i have to pay for something that was recalled and wait to see if there will be another recall to get paid.why shouldn't i be able to take it in and get it fixed as a recall. maybe something wasn't done right.what should i do i'm positive there will never be another recall and how do i truly know this was fixed in the first place. i just bought the suv in aug last year thank you for your time *tr

Was in reverse pulling out of drive way, cross traffic indicator went off and car began to shake, put car in drive and drove after it stopped shaking. when i came to the first light the car would not go even as i had accelerator all the way down, the car revved but did not move until a minute later it slowly began to move with accelerator all the way down. gradually it picked up speed again but kept on shaking. while at the light the car seemed to be loosing electrical power and felt as though it would shut off as it had lost all power before due to the collision indicators sensing a crash.

Engine warning light first began to appear at approximately 35,000 miles. initially the warning light came on and off after a few weeks, then stayed on permanently until i took it into the dealer. after i left the dealer, the engine light reappeared after approximately a month while i was driving and stayed on steady at approximately 40,000 miles. the dealer stated it had to do with fueling the car. i took particular care in noticing when this current engine light appeared. it was no where near fueling of the car. it was during the operation of the vehicle. thank god it has not been associated with any "real" issue other than the fact that i can't use the clicker to auto-start my car during what has up until now been a relatively mild winter. this car has been in the shop so many times, i am on a first name basis with the ford staff. buy japan.

On 10-10-2015, our 2013 ford escape 4wd started displaying an abs error code, along with a traction control system error and a "hill start assist not available" error message, simultaneously. the abs brakes would engage at low travel speed. we took it to the dealer, who determined that a rear wheel sensor had failed. they kept the car for two weeks and returned it on 10-21-2015. it had 24,273 miles on it. now, 3 weeks later, on 10-16-2015, the very same problem has recurred, with the dash lights displaying for the abs system failure, the traction control system failure and the "hill start assist not available". the abs system engages at low speeds causing the brakes to grab, rendering the car unsafe to drive. this car is a 'lemon' in our opinion, as it has had 5 major breakdowns, including a major engine problem at 720 miles, a failure of the air bag controller, two problems with the abs system, as documented herein, and two recalls related to the engine potentially catching on fire due to a fuel leak (a recall, followed by a recall to fix the recall). i sincerely believe that this vehicle is dangerous and have asked the ford motor company to buy back this vehicle several times, but they have refused to do so. i fear that my wife and i are not safe while driving this car due to the high number of defects on this one particular vehicle. i am reporting this abs/traction control problem since it has now happened twice, as i believe it likely impacts other ford escapes made at the same time, and likely indicates a bad batch of wheel sensors that are failing prematurely in the field. since the failure of the wheel sensor disables the abs and tcs systems, this is a dangerous defect, as it can happen completely at random. my wife was 100 miles from home last time and had to drive back with the abs & tcs not functioning.) this car is "unsafe at any speed"! *tr

Purchased my 2013 escape del on 4/2014, it's been back to dealership for a total of 32 days since i've owned it. they had to replace at no cost due to recall 13s12 the water pump, long block 1.6ltr engine, engine indicator asy-oil level, battery, vacuum pump, therm.assy, staring angle sensor, coolant bypass solenoid, lower standpipe hose. reprogrammed apim, pcm, icp, rcm. ford discontinued the 1.6 engine back 2015 and the sex model. i continually have system issues even after they replaced my engine. i want a different escape.

My car is a 2013 escape and since i took it to service and to fix one recall that was causing my car to overheat and shut off engine 1.- (recall no. 13s12) risk of localized overheating of the enginecylinder head that may lead to oil leak filters. and .some other recalls, like 2.- (recall no. 13y03 fuel line jumper), 3.-(recall no. 14so4 reprogram restrains control), and 4.-(recal no.14s03 exterior door handle) since that day ive called many times to service manager ivan regarding this. my car has been malfuntioning overheating in the freeway, and in the streets, most of the times, even when it was right out of the service, i was going on a vacation with my family, where i even had d to pay to replace engine coolant bypass valve, $330.18 dlls because my car is over 30,000 miles but not yet 3 years .and at this time they performed another recall ????? yes... this was recall no 14s21 restraints control module replacement. and now when i got my car out of horne ford nogales az. when i turn i hear a sound on the right side of my tires or brakes need a solution please help what can i do i need a solution this is not fair

This vehicle should be equipped with a single dedicated dash mounted switch for the traction control "off" function. to disable traction control in low speed situations requiring more traction now involves navigating through four dash mounted information screens while using the steering wheel mounted control buttons. a process that requires taking your view off the road for 5 seconds or more and is potentially dangerous. *tr
