The coolant keeps getting low. i had a pressure test done with no issue found. the dealership told me everything was fine, however i have to keep adding coolant about every 10-14 days. i have done some internet searching since my local dealership was no help. i found there was a recall for 2013 ford escapes due to a coolant issue but my vehicle never received a recall. the sticker inside the door has a manufacture date of 8/2012.
On wed august 22nd, 2018, i was running errands. i left a store, entered my 2013 ford escape titanium, and began to slowly back out of my parking space. after backing out of the space, i put the shifter into d and began to try to drive forward, but my vehicle instead continued to roll backwards. i immediately pressed my brake pedal, which stopped it from rolling backwards, and put the shifter into p. though my vehicle showed that it was in park, it continued to roll backwards if i took my foot off the brake. i was able to reverse my car down the parking lot and back into a parking space at the end of the lot. all the while, my 2013 escape showed that it was in park. i turned my vehicle off, but had to engage the emergency brake to ensure that it would not continue rolling backwards. when i tried to turn the vehicle back on a minute later, i was not able to push the brake pedal down. it became locked, and i couldn't turn the engine on, shift, or do anything except turn press the ignition button to turn on/off the radio/ac/lights/electrical, etc. (during this whole time, there was never any warning lights lit or any indication at all that a problem was about to occur or currently occuring.) i had it towed to the nearest ford dealership, where they confirmed that it was the shifter assembly/cable that broke, which is the exact issue in the recall ford issued on over 500,000 2013 ford escapes in july 2018. however, despite my vehicle having the exact mechanical failure as described in the recall notice, i was told by ford when i contacted the manufacturer directly, that my vehicle was assembled at a plant that has not been added to the recall. obviously this issue is more vast and widespread than ford is willing to admit. because my escape is from a factory that hasn't been added to the recall yet, ford refuses to cover the cost of repairs. this is incredibly frustrating.
The passenger side door does not shut flush to the door frame. i discovered this when i was washing my car. below you asked when did this happen? nothing happened this is just the way the is. i always thought the window was not shutting completely because when you sit in the passenger you can hear a whistle. there was a recall on the door. maybe it didn't work?
My 2013 ford escape has stalled several times while driving, only to restart again and seem fine. recently it stalled and would not start up.
My vehicle was going 45 mph in motion down the highway and the check engine light came on. about 4 miles down the road my car flashed the "engine overheating" signed and within 5 seconds the car came to a stop and stall in limp mode. this is not safe especially since i was on a highway, and where i live there are highways every where that take me where i need to be. took to ford dealer a mile or so down the road, and they tested it for everything and they sent me on my way with no work done, just conducted a road test after resetting the codes and light did not come back on. about 15 miles later, the car did the exact same thing again on the same highway, going 45, check engine light came on and the car went into limp mode again. took to the ford dealer next day and told me that the standpipe is malfunctioning causing the overheating in the engine cooling system. but, fixing this piece does not fix the problem. my car was fixed for this same issue in 2014, by the 13s12. and yet, this issue is happening again. i do have the 2013 ford escape with the 1.6l engine that has frequently dealt with this problem. driving this car is very unsafe due to the car abruptly stopping if this problem happens, the car stalls and can easily overheat. as the dealer has only suggested installing a new coolant level sensor (standpipe) with new hardware and software, we see that this problem has not worked in previous 2013 ford escapes. having this car on the road is a safety hazzards. with over 3 pages of my ford escape alone with factory recalls, this car should not be allowed on the road. i hope this gets fixed, or at least a recall for this car or an investigation is put in action. this car is not safe in any terms or conditions and i do not want this causing any potential fatalities.
Vehicle has repeatedly lost power while driving, on more then one occasion while pulling into traffic in town
When i first purchased the escape the trunk handle fell off into my hand, it was replaced. the passenger door opener handle apparently is wrappend in silver plastic, that cut a passenger, i have spent years asking them to replace it, they finally did last month, of course now out of warranty so i had to pay for it. i have had a recurring issue with my rear passenger door interior panel separating from the metal exterior panel, rendering the door useless. my 7 year old daughter cannot get into or out of the vehicle on her side. the clips have been replaced 3 times at the dealership and they are suggesting replacing the interior because it is "warped" how does a garaged vehicle's interior become "warped" to an extent where the clips cannot hold the part in place and repeatedly snap? the clips are plastic and similar to the interior of this model plastic is wearable, and ford should be replacing this item, not me. i had a 2001 explorer for 14 years that i never had issues with, primarily because it wasn't constructed with plastic.this is a serious saftey issue and my child should not be trapped in a vehicle. i have also had a recurring issue with the front suspension, the shocks were replaced and the matter has gotten worse. this issue took place after the tire was replaced becuase of a nail puncture. i am responding to the dealership today 10/16/2018 to see what they are going to do about this problem, that i did not create and have atempted to have repaired since july 2018. when the car is in motion the passenger side simply seems as if it going to fall off, a loud clanking sound and the stability is then off after the vehicle goes over anything, man hole overs small fissures in the ground or large bumps. this can't be safe and it needs to be fixed.
I came to a stop at a stop sign in my subdivision, and my car stalled out. i thought the problem was the battery so i tried to restart, but it failed. i smelled gas so i got out of the car and started seeing smoke under the hood. the smoke got worse quickly and caught fire within 2 minutes. the front of the car was engulfed in flames shortly after, for roughly five minutes, and it was eventually totaled.
Car randomly shuts off has shut off 3 times since getting it back from dealer... car was parked for 4 hours after starting the car and waiting for the rpm to drop when i put it in drive and accelerated the engine shut off power was still on . the second time the engine shut off car was idling for 10 mins after a 25 min srive from work whwn i drove off made a turn a block away engine shut off had hit hazards throw gear into neutral roling to a safe distance from corner yo stop. the last time this happen car was not idle after driving several blocks after a rolling stop sign my csr shut offf in the middle dfle off intersection. car has said to be fixed by dealership but its not aur bag light stays went off after taking it in but is now lit afain
I drive to town park to go in a store come back to my car start it and go to drive as i pulling in traffic it dies it starts back up and does it again for 4 to 5 times before finally driving normal, on hot days as the car is driving it will read as if it is over heating and pull reduce power in witch as u finally get out of traffic and pull over the heat hand drops back down like it wasn't hot this repeats on ever small hill i go up and the inside temperature reading goes up and down while this is happening and it is leaking coolant on back side of engine as all the other ford escape that was recalled that caused the fire
Coolant leaks, since to be coming from insulated hose connected to heater
Fume smell inside main cabin when accelerates
Engine overheating. on may 14, 2018 at approximately 71102 miles, my vehicle was diagnosed as "overheating" due to water pump failure. the water pump failed because 2 out of 4 bolts were not there. this resulted in the pulley bending and several other issues. it was the first and only warning of such a problem. i have owned the car for less than 1 year (purchased used). i was also informed that the front axle requires replacing (clicking noise). researching this problem, i found that several other 2013 ford escape had similar issues. my question is how ford got away with only being responsible for repairs on less than 7000 vehicles.
In may 2018 i was driving my 2013 ford escape, pulled out of a parking spot once the vehicle corrected to pull away i attempted to put the vehicle into drive and the gear shift would not move however the gear shift was reading the vehicle in park. due to reading i was in park i believed it safe to shut off the vehicle and attempt to restart it however it was not in correct gear and would not start. i believing the vehicle was in park, shut the vehicle off and quickly realized i did not have any control any longer, and to prevent an almost accident when the vehicle began rolling down a steep hill in southern middle tn and as i one this was done, i pulled the emergency brake before colliding with another car and my vehicle had to be towed. it was when it was at the mechanics that it was discovered the shift cable bushings needed to be replaced. i saw in late june 18 or early july 18 that their was numerous recalls for this same exact thing that happened to my vehicle however my vin is not part of that.
My air conditioning turns from cold & then instantly to warm. the blower is still on but not as strong when it turns warm. if engine is turned off and then back on the air comes on cold. speed does not seem to be a factor for it happens at different times, in town driving speeds and also on the highway/freeway at different speeds. the fastest i go is 80 on the highway. i drive 110 miles from las vegas to mesquite, nv each week and have to stop at least 3-4 times to turn off the engine off & turn it right back so the cold comes back on. this is a safety hazard for i live in the desert and drive from las vegas, nv 110 miles across the desert each week. i did take it into ford and they charged me $240.00 dollars to diagnose the ac but could not duplicate & find the problem. they still charged me. system pressure at 30/160. another mechanic, who used to work for ford told me ford knows about the problem, has hundreds of complaints about the same situation. i am afraid every time i drive the car, especially when it is 100 + degrees out. the problem has persisted starting in may when it turned warm here in the las vegas area and i starting using the air conditioner.
2013 ford escape se bought 3/29/17at the time the 12v dc power outlet, aux port & usb port did not work. 4/22/2018 the vehicle stopped on the pa turnpike immediately after i received a warning 'high engine temperature, please stop vehicle safely'. service appointment for 4/25/18 & was informed that there was a recall on the engine coolant bypass symptoms, issues with the water pump & 2-3 other issues that were all covered under ford recalls &ford wexford would fix it on 4/30/18. 5/4/18 informed that they had not been able to contact ford wexford for an update. i contacted ford wexford & was informed that they did not have a 2013 ford escape to repair. i received a call back informing me that ford wexford was unaware that the suv was at their lot since 4/30/18 & they would not be able to service it until the following week. 5/10/17 i picked up the suv and within 24 hours started having additional problems/signals including the service engine, seatbelt, battery, brakes, hill assist not available, high engine temperature stop safely and the speedometer not functioning. i contacted jd byrider was told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and that it could possibly be the battery, starter or alternator. i was told to take it to auto zone to have a computer diagnostic. i returned the vehicle 5/17 & was informed that the vehicle would have to go back to ford wexford. i spoke with andy at ford wexford and he informed me that the suv had a wiring issues they weren't able to fix, that the suv would need a new computer system and that this would be 1-2 weeks. i was also told they had a call out to ford co. to discuss their concerns. on 5/31/18 i received a call informing me that the suv needed a new computer system, that it was not covered under my warranty and that the cost would be $1100.
Coolant leak
The car will randomly stall and die while driving. this has happened multiple times. it can be after reversing and pulling forward, or while at a stop light and start moving from a complete stop. i have taken the car to 2 dealerships and neither of them can find out what is wrong or how to fix it.
Windshields with no seal causing lots of air nosies like the windows are down
Fire hazard. i heard strange vibrating sounds inside the cabin. from the outside i noticed a piece of aluminum touching the ground. this turned out to be the catalytic converter heat shield that become completely unwrapped. the flimsy heat shield is made of fiber glass insulation and aluminum foil. the catalytic converter is exposed now to the floor and can start the carpet fire inside the car. this issue was known in 2014 and car magazines reported then that this will be addressed by ford, but ford decided not to issue recall.
Coolant leaked into the engine and cracked the engine blocks back in july of 2017. the engine was replaced. march 5th 2018 the check engine light came on again. this time, the code is for a coolant bypass valve that they're not covering under warranty. we missed the recall by 10 days production date. this part was recalled for a reason and our car should be incorporated into that recall despite the production date.
My wife was driving down the road and all of the sudden the car felt like it was losing power and the service engine light came on and she noticed smoke coming out of the hood. she immediately pulled over and turned off the ignition. smoke started filling the car so she and our daughter evacuated the car. this car caught fire and burned to the ground. she received a recall notice for a door latch but never for an engine fire.
The vehicle was purchased september 19, 2017. it was a used vehicle with less than 65k miles. on january 5, 2018, i received a low coolant warning. i checked the reservoir and noticed substantial coolant depleted. the reservoir was replenished with coolant. on january 11, 2018, upon parking the vehicle, i noticed a strong coolant odor. upon checking the reservoir, the level was ok! i became aware on january 6, 2018, that there is an upcoming ford recall regarding coolant issue.
Coolant level drops quickly, but there is no steam or puddle visible. car overheats. it should be covered under safety recall 17s09, but 2013 ford escapes are not included. our car has a 1.6 litre ecoboost engine & was built at the louisville plant. ford also identified coolant and overheating issues with the 1.6l ecoboost engine for 2013 escapes and has issued recalls. however, using the vin search, none of the 2013 or 2014 model recalls covered this vehicle. it is clear that there is a significant problem with the 1.6l escape engines and this particular vehicle exhibits all the same issues identified in the 2013 and 2014 recalls, but yet somehow is not technically covered by any of the recalls. this has been an ongoing problem for approx 2 yrs.
The back window has now shattered twice on our vehicle and we have had it repaired, but there is apparently no known problem.
Engine coolant was leaking months after i purchased this vehicle new .kept getting engine coolant low.ford could not duplicate issue several other times i took it in same issue dec 2016 they said they fixed. issue again december 2017 saying now it is part cv6z 18472-s and on a month back order. this issue with engine coolant going on since almost day 1 and each time they find a different issue to fix never resolving issue. now this part on a month back order
A couple days ago my check engine light came on when i started my car and i found out my pcv valve needed replaced. i was reading online and i saw that there was a recall on the 2013 ford escapes because of coolant problems.
The vehicle will shutdown during operation and lose electrical power. this has occurred 3 times over the last year. the vehicle's ecu will show overheating and engine overheating during operation and shutdown. the dtc have been checked and cleared several times with no answers for the issues.
Winshield wipers getting stuck and misalligned while i was driving in the rain and almost had an accident. i noticed the passenger one wants to work but the friver side just got stuck on the upright posititon and when i put it down it off throws the alligment and will not let the passenger side move either
I was going down the road, my battery light came on then my engine light came on then it started beeping and said my engine was over heating. got pulled over and had to get it towed. car would start but would not move. mechanic told me the water pump locked up and broke a belt. i have read numerous comments of people that this has happened to. there should be a recall on this
First incident: august 3rd 2016 while driving 50mph car displayed a engine overheating warning message and slowed down as i pulled off the road. after a few minutes i was able to drive again and the message did not reappear, the check engine light was on. i took the car to kearney person ford 7303 clairemont mesa blvd san diego, ca 92111 they told me they couldn't find anything wrong and turned the check engine light off. second incident: driving to work earlier this year 2017 i got the same message that my engine coolant was low, and to slow down because of critical overheating, even though i had just had the car serviced for a regular maintenance check, once again at kearny person ford. i was driving normally on a road at around 30-40mph but accelerating when the message popped up. i refiled the coolant as the check engine light did not turn on. third incident: this was the most dangerous time. critical engine overheating message and low coolant message popped up without warning while driving up hill in traffic going about 20mph on the i-5s at the in california grapevine. the engine nearly shut off and limped on just a couple cylinders as i tried to get to the shoulder. smoke was coming out from under the hood and the engine was hot. it all happened immediately and without warning, the temp gauge was normal and then bam! overheated with warning messages crippling the car. driving slowly but the weather was hot it was nearly 110 degrees outside. seems super dangerous. because of the lack of warning when these incidents happen. the way that the coolant just disappears, and the smoke and chance of fire.
Nhtsa site and checked vin to see if recall on my vehicle and there was one 9/16 for door latch. i never received contact about the recall. just found this out today 7/28/17 by looking for myself.
Takata recall: engine light on message engine failure!!! kit-term ab part # 3u2z.14a088 part $17.40 wire $1.74 labor $558.00 total at ford dealership $577.14 + $99 to run the test! there are a lot of complaints on this problem and needs to be a recall. ford needs to deal with this issue. it's a faulty part. i took it in right away as you should with any engine light. the light came on when i started it one day and only drove it to dealership.
This vehicle has some sort of a coolant issue.i have been plague with this at least 4 times, it notifies the engine that it is running hot and then it goes into a limp mode phase in which it stops running.it has done this on the express way while i was on my way to work, two times on the neighbor street and my driveway,,,each time on my way to work.when this happens the vehicle shuts down and it takes 8hrs for the vehicle to unlock before anyone can work on it.it is now at the ford dealership in which it is awaiting repairs for the same problem.however now the dealership is telling us, my wife and i that they may have to break the whole engine down in order to find whats wrong with vehicle.my question is why do we have to pay for something that should have been done at first?
Antifreeze needs to be added every couple weeks. no sign of leakage.
My transmission failed in june, it was rebuilt and has already started to shift hard. so, once again back in the shop. the a/c has been acting funny. the rear vents barely work, blend door doesnt engage properly. dealer has another vehicle identical to mine and it does the same thing.
Strong exhaust odor inside of vehicle causing head aches and nausea with light headedness. dealership sais they don't smell anything but me and my passengers definitly do.
Vehicle was in motion on a city street and the engine running to hot stop safely alert came on and the vehicle was stopping. this happened twice. had my mechanic check it out. he did a scan and 2 codes came up p1299 cylinder head over temp and p1940 engine coolant level signal not available due to driving condition.. he did an inspection and confirmed engine coolant leaking from the water pump. there was a recall on 2013 ford escapes manufactured between 10/5/2011-8/31/2012. my car was manufactured 12/12.
When stop for light or stop sign car hesitates like stalling - having problems since 2016 brought to dealership could not find anything. took car to local mechanic code came up for map sensor. replaced map sensor 11/16. exactly 5 months to the day car is acting up again starting on 4/15. i am so disgusted with ford
If the engine is hot and you are doing a lot of stopping and tuning the vehicle off then restating it, it will stall while driving. it has happened 4 times in the last week. thankfully i've only been going at a slow speed. the date of when it happened was the first imw.
Had to totally replace transmission and vehicle is under 100,000 miles ans only 4 yrs old. when it started hesitating going into first gear i took it to ford they said transmission fluid was burnt. how does this happen?i cant beleive im the only one who has had this kind of problem. i have only put 10,000 miles on vehicle and i have all maintenance records. replace transmission thats what ford says to the tune of $ 4,500. to anyone who will listen ford does not stand behind its products.the day the car started hesitating i took directly to shop meanwhile the first hesitation into first was the same time engine light came on.
My antifreeze has been leaking and it's worse when it's cold out. my mechanic didnt see anything wrong when he took all quick look.. and the plan is to have a much better look here in 7 days. i have noticed that ever since the weather has gotten colder... it leaks faster... like i have to refill it every 24 hours. when i was getting my oil changed ..the service worker said his wife had the same problem and there was a recall on 2013 for antifreeze sensor malfunction... but when i enter my bin number it is not included in the recall. i noticed this at the end of the winter last winter... and it wasn't too bad until about 30 days ago the temperature got significantly colder and it real bad now and costs slot to keep up on antifreeze. please get in touch with me if you need my vin number. thanks.
Coolant light came on and after coolant was added the check engine light came on and what not go out. also every time i added fuel my vehicle would not start. each time i would add fuel it took several tries to start the engine. every other day i would not be able to start the engine for hours. i took the car in to a ford dealership for inspection i had several codes come up. a failed coolant bypass valve was replaced as well as a fuel pressure sensor. codes (p 0087) (p 018 c) (p 26 b 7) (p 1450) the restraints module control replacement and did a coolant system flush. after extensive work and over almost $2,000 spent my vehicle engine light keeps coming on and i continue to have trouble starting my vehicle after adding fuel every single time. the fuel issue really worries me because whenever i get out of my vehicle i smell gas and don't think that is normal. i really hope i can get this resolved soon because i cannot go without driving but i am loosing sleep as well as being very nervous when i have to refuel. please help me resolve this issue as soon as possible because i am starting to regret choosing a ford!!!!!!
I was driving back from seattle to olympia on feb 8, 2017. it was around 40 degrees and rainy on and off all day. as i was making it into tacoma, i suddenly heard a huge boom, like an explosion or shot gun sound which made me panic. then all of a sudden i was covered in glass. i looked around trying to figure out what had happened while still on the highway travelling 55 mph. there were and on ramp and off ramp near by so cars are passing me; making it difficult to exit. i was terrified of getting hit. i looked up and saw it was the sunroof missing a whole bunch of class. so my first instinct was closing the cover to protect my daughter in the backseat. the moment i got it closed, more glass flew down and hit the cover. i sighed in relief. eventually i got off the highway and parked. i instantly ran back to my daughter (8 months old) to see if she was ok and she only had a tiny scratch. i had a bunch of scratches all over my hands. i then took a picture of the damage and in a panic called my husband who advised me to go to the ford dealership in olympia. i waited for about 1/2 hour to settle down but was still in shock the whole drive. ford wouldn't help me since i was out of the warranty period and was sent to their glass people. i filed a claim with my insurance and the vehicle was eventually fixed.
Vehicle was in drive and suddenly lost power. the accelerator was pressed but the vehicle stopped driving forward even though the engine was running. the engine did not rev. the dash light indicating the transmission disappeared. the vehicle suddenly jumped into gear so hard i suffered whiplash. it did this several times as i attempted to get clear of heavy traffic. i literally thought i had been rear ended at one point as the car jolted so hard. after getting out of the roadway, the transmission failure service now light came on. this is consistant with the pcm wiring harness recall done on other 2013 escapes but was not covered for my particular vehicle. the jolts to the vehicle kicking in gear destroyed the transmission. i was in motion at the time, in bumper to bumper traffic. i was lucky not to strike or be hit by another vehicle. i have contacted ford but they state my car was not covered under that recall and that they will not help me.
Message: 2013 ford escape... transmission is going out. car has under 70k miles. went to ford and got estimate and got one for over $6,200.00. i still am paying for my car loan which is about the same amount. i went to 2 other transmission shops and because the car is so new they can't rebuild the trans since they won't be able to get parts. i called ford, got case number, and their decision was that they cannot assistant with lowering the cost even though they know about 2013 models that have defective transmissions. since i bought the car used, ford claims that i do not have ownership loyalty and cannot assist with cost of new transmission. i'm stuck and until i can save for another transmission, driving an unsafe car.
Gas smell in cabin. from the time its turned on to the timeline its turned off. sometimes its overwhelming. headaches and even bloody noses appear to be the side effects. research indicates it is a pcv hose and is a common problem with vehicles like mine. some sort of information regarding the safety and solution to solving the problem should be availiable but instead it takes a 40+ page thread on an non-affiliated website to kdiscusses the solution. if that is even the official solution and i have kids, something official regarding the safety is a bare minimum. please address this. thank you.
Took vehicle in for coolant leak only to find out the water pump had a leak. i am only at 70,000 miles. this seems very suspect. does anyone know of a recall for this issue? this was the 3rd check up in less than 21 days for the same leak before it was identified by the dealer.
On at least four occasions lost ability to accelerate car. first two times it was self limiting. the third time car stalled was started again i drove it and the same thing happened, could not accelerate and it also seemed that the car in motion was not responsive. for the third occurrence i brought the car to the dealership, they could find no issues with the car and could not duplicate the behaviors i had described. the fourth time i had just that day picked the car up from the dealership after being serviced for a leak in the coolant hose, my 60,000 mile check up and for my check engine light that was on. the hose being replaced, the check engine light was reset and found to have no reason for the engine light to be on. i drove the car home and while in park it stalled. i stated it back up and it kept exhibiting the same inability to excel, i seemed to have little con troll of it , it stalled again, started again and i pressed on the gas until i was home three blocks away. i felt the car not safe to drive, i called the dealership and had them send a tow truck to pick up my car and bring it back to the dealership where it is now. when it stalled i was on a city street and able to pull over with no harm.
The myfordtouch system will sporadically shut down. at times this shut down is evidenced by a loud pop through the audio speakers, then the audio goes out and the bluetooth phone connection resets. often it will display an error screen saying "shutting down to save battery" with a progress bar. that progress bar never finishes to the right before the system restarts. this will happen multiple times during a trip, with no similar characteristics between trips where this issue occurs (day/night, highway/city, warm/cold, driving or stopped, none of it matters) and i can't recreate it on demand. it will happen one day and then not for a week or two. the lack of ability to recreate means that the ford dealer will not repair it. the ford service rep suggested i replace the battery and on his advice i did. however, this not fix the problem. he tested the alternator, and checked for error codes all with no change in the situation. ultimately it has been with the dealer 3 times for service, with no resolution. i have video of it occurring on 11/6/2016. it has happened as far back as july 2016. most recent occurrence was today, 11/10/2016 date entered in field below is last time it happened.
