I noticed a light gas smell in my garage one day and figured perhaps because my car does not have a gas lid that is why i was smelling it. the next day, my daughter used my car to pick up a gas grill for a christmas gift which she left in my car overnight. the following morning the gas smell was really strong so i immediately took it into the dealer where i had purchased it, huntington ford. when the service man came near it he said to step away from this car as it was dangerous to be near it and that i had to leave it. after a day or so, they told me that some kind of "pebble" must have rubbed a hole in my fuel line and that is would be $634.62 for parts and repair. i'm a senior citizen on a fixed income and i am very upset about this. how can something like this happen and put peoples lives in danger? my daughter could have been in danger when they put the heavy object in it if someone had been smoking nearby. i have spoken to huntington ford, ford motor and written 2 separate letters to ford motor and no one is willing to help me get a refund for parts or labor on this. in my mind they should be willing to work with me since i was the one who was put into harms way. i don't live on a dirt road, in fact i don't know when i even drove on one last. how could a "pebble" do something like this and if so, how many other people are in danger that may live on a dirt road and not be as fortunate as i am that no one was injured. this is a serious problem that i thought was important to make the nhtsa aware of. i have all of the documentation available to provide to you including my repair receipt from huntington ford and the letters that i sent to ford motor. thank you for your help and for listening. i feel that i have been treated unfairly as a consumer and i am regretting my decision for purchasing a vehicle from ford motor because of this matter. ...
Driving on a winding, mountainous road the car suddenly lost power and was not responsive to the accelerator. there was no shoulder, so i kept going, very slowly, and then it resumed normal operating responsiveness, only to lose power again. this continued for the 4 miles it took for me to get home. i hoped it was some bad gas and was a one-time event - until it happened again, and i was again able to get home. i am now afraid to drive it. *tr
In the peak of traffic the vehicle stalled and started choking. almost would barely run. had the opportunity to stop in the rest area and had to pay the tow truck. vehicle currently in the shop and the diagnosis is the throttle body needs replacing. and the warranty is not covering. *tr
Turning off the feeder road of the freeway and the vehicle shook and was unable to apply the gas. the engine was on but the car would not move. the wrench light came on. have been told this is a throttle body issue and it is not covered under my extended warranty. *tr
After sitting at a red light, i tried to accelerate vehicle to get on the highway then vehicle hesitated and wouldn't respond to any attempts to accelerate and the engine light and wrench light came on. after completely turning the car off and trying to restart it, it took approx 7 seconds to turn over and after making another attempt to accelerate there wasn't any change. i did this two more times and on the third try, the vehicle responded to prompts from the accelerator. both the engine light and wrench light were still lit up, but i drove the car to the autoport and was given the trouble code p2112 and was told that the throttle body assembly needed to be replaced. *tr
While driving along highway, my gas pedal suddenly became completely unresponsive. was luckily able to coast off to shoulder of the highway and suv began to idle extremely roughly. restarted vehicle and was able to drive home without additional problems. researched issue today and found numerous examples of this problem. issue should be recalled!! *tr
While driving on the highway, the car suddenly shuttered and stalled. check engine light went on and the driver had to guide car to shoulder while avoiding oncoming traffic. no one was injured but the driver was scared and this was a very dangerous situation. the car was towed to our service station and they found that the electronic throttle control was potentially defective or impaired. *tr
Approaching a traffic light, engine speed dropped to 1000 rpm, would not respond to throttle. pulled into a parking lot and still could not increase speed on engine. wrench displayed on instrument cluster. turned engine off, after 5-10 minutes started engine, the wrench was no longer displayed on instrument panel. drove home, about 20 miles, with no further problems. *jb
I was driving on a residential street when my car shuddered, and i no longer had any gas when i pushed the pedal down. the car was still on, so i was able to guide the car to the side of the street, turn the car off and then restart the car. the next day, the same thing happened several times--always a shudder and then no gas--before i was finally able to drive the car to my ford dealership to see what was wrong. they told me the throttle body was bad. they looked for a replacement, but they said the part was on a nationwide backorder. they said i could get the part cleaned (at my expense), but they wouldn't guarantee it. since i frequently have my grandchildren in my car, and since i am frequently on the interstate at much, much higher speeds, i think i'll wait for the new part--which i have been told has been redesigned. of course insurance and extended warranties won't pay for a rental car while waiting for a part, so i'm at home--writing you! the real reason that i'm writing, of course, is that this is such a safety issue. for my car to stop in the middle of the road was a little scary. since there is a backorder on the part nationwide, i assume i'm not the first, or even the second, person to have this problem with their ford car. btw, i called nhtsa, and my reference number is [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
While driving at 45 mph, engine cut out but remained idling with no power. pulled to side of road, shut car off then restarted while in "park" gear position. traveled 1500 miles without incident, then engine lost power on 08/12/2013 while traveling 70 mph on freeway. pulled to side of freeway and restarted car while in "park." car ran fine for another 1500 miles, then on 09/06/2013 began losing power several times while going 30 mph (odometer was at 28,944). limped home and called lincoln/ford dealership and arranged for tow. car is presently at dealership waiting for warranty repair; "throttle body assembly" on order. there was no recall notice sent to me regarding this ford escape engine fault. the freeway loss of power incident put family in extreme danger while attempting to get to side of road. *tr
Driving at highway speed, lost all power, drive train warning light came on, engine light came on. had to coast across lanes of traffic to emergency lane and shut off car. turned back on and car worked normally, no warning lights. traveled several miles and happened again. ford dealer said it sounded like it was the throttle actuator, they have seen this before and it would cost me $400 to repair. ford has a design problem with this part and refuses to fix it. i do not want to have to keep replacing $400 throttle actuators every 30,000 miles. the code was p2111. this needs to be done before an accident happens.*jb
Was driving the car, and it lost power, and there was no throttle response. after shutting ignition off, drove the car a little farther, and the same thing occurred, and check engine light came on. garage diagnosed it as the throttle body control. *tr
Repeated stalling of vehicle while in the flow of traffic at highways speeds. no shoulder to pull off on. car has to be completely stopped and restarted to drive again. first visit to dealership they told us the cost to replace the throttle body. the car is less than 3 years old and barely out of warranty. they told us we could continue to drive the vehicle while the part is on order. they don't expect to have the parts for another 6 weeks! in the meantime, the car continues to have repeated problems and would just stop and jerk suddenly upon acceleration and the engine would stop functioning. we had the car towed to a different ford dealer and are waiting on them to complete a diagnostic evaluation. scared for our lives! surely a recall will reimburse us for repairs, towing and rent car. what a nightmare!! *tr
Engine will start head down the road and all the sudden will lose pick up ,push on the gas and nothing happens then all the sudden it will speed up ,including this one that i have estimated the date and mileage ford replaced the throttle body under warranty.....the second time this happened was on 02sep12 mileage was 39619 it did the same thing but left me on the side of the road and had to be towed(90$) to repair ,ford found the throttle body unable to maintain idle cost me almost 400$ to repair ,that leads us up to today where i was going down the highway at about 60 miles an hour and all the sudden it cut out and had to cost out of heavy traffic after about 2-3 min the truck picked up and ran fine till i got home and called ford and asked them what i need to do cause its doing the same thing it had the previous times.was instructed to get it to a service dept to have it checked,on the way to ford during heavy traffic the car stalled in an intersection and thankfully the other driver was paying attention he was able to stop their could have def been a fatal injury if not but as i was told by ford that i would also have to pay for this throttle body because it was out of warranty due to mileage 04jun13 58053 miles. *tr
Last year i purchased a 2011 ford escape and have been completely dissatisfied with my purchase. the selling dealer, tower ford in great neck, new york has done absolutely nothing to help me rectify my serious complaint and concerns with my vehicle. one of my biggest concerns is that the transmission slips, the accelerator pedal sticks, the brakes are very low, and a swishing liquid noise is heard in the fuel tank when stopping, the right side rear passenger door squeaks, and the center console is loose. i've brought my truck back to this dealer many times and all i receive is that they can not verify my complaint and concerns. i am concerned for my family and my safety. any help would be appreciated. *js
As i was exiting a highway, my car message center alerted me to safely come to a stop. as i was attempting to get into a parking lot, the car shut off. i restarted and was able to get into parking lot on electric, i guess. it was towed to utter ford, in sherman, tx. they ran a diagnostic and told me it had to do with the fuel pump and the electrical. they kept it overnight and said they replaced the fuel pump. i picked it up on 12/3 around 2:30pm. i got 40 miles and the car went into fail/safe mode again. i was able to make it safely to a parking lot. after the engine was turned off and then back on, the accelerator stuck. hitting the break did not help. the car had to be turned off to keep the engine from revving. it was towed to david mcdavid lincoln in plano, texas. the service tech said that there was nothing registering on the diagnostic. on their second test drive, the car turned off while the driver was on the highway. they had to send a tow truck to get him. the car would not restart. *tr
