Within a month of purchasing vehicle, mileage 67,000, complete brake system failure. could have been fatal and will be if not corrected. many exact complaints found online. vehicle failed to stop coming to light. had to pull off the side of the road into a wooded area for the vehicle to stop. felt like vehicle was sliding on road. later realized it was a abs system failure not sliding. abs light is on. brake system needs service light on. emergency brake light stays on. approximately 75% of the time, when first driving vehicle, only the service brake display is on. the vehicle will begin to buck/stutter, steering wheel shakes, and traction control warning light illuminates. after accelerating, that stops and returns to what i described.above. i read since there were no fatalities reported ford will not recall. i am certain there have been fatalities due to this problem, just not identified.

Brake system quit working on my ford escape hybrid. it is a known broblem. dealer wants 7000.00 to fix it. hydraulic pumps burn out in them. you loose the complete braking system in the car.

Brake failed the regen system failure and abs brake failure caused an almost serious accident $7000 for repairs for something that has numerous problems from 1000s of others having the same issue it is a 2007 ford escape 2 wheel drive hybrid

The brakes failed at a stop sign and sent my daughter into traffic that was going 50 mph. fortunately she put it in reverse and got out before an accident was caused. the abs light came on and mechanic says it will cost over $4000 to fix. after research we see that hundreds of others have had this exact problem. hydraulic control unit is faulty and a bad design that recurs.

I have replaced the abs tone rings in my vehicle 3 times in the last 4 years. two of the times it broke i was driving the vehicle. i was on a major road when this happened. this part needs to be recalled. there is no reason for it to break this often. to make matters worse it can only be fixed by a ford dealer because of the computer system.

Broken tone ring right front

The passenger rear right brake/tail bulb went out, when i went to replace the bulb i found that the socket was burned, very dark brown splotchy areas, and had a distinctive odor. i checked the left, driver side and found that the socket on that brake/tail light was also turning brown at the pin site. it concerns me that i am finding this issue to be a consistent problem around the internet.

Three lights turned on simultaneously, brake, abs, and the "wrench" icon indicating a major failure. brake pedal went to the floor and i experienced an 80% loss of braking power narrowly avoiding a collision with cars stopped in front of me. lights remained on and brakes were severely compromised with very little braking ability. turned the car off. when i restarted the car all systems were operational and all lights were off. drove the car to a ford dealer the following day for evaluation. dealer diagnosed and told me they ran a computer test and no reports. i asked them if they test drove the car, they said no. a week latter the same thing happened and i almost t-boned a car. a very loud sound was coming from the rear of the car. i shut the car off and the system "reset". i was able to drive home but i do not feel safe. i can not get a any ford dealer to tell me what is going on.

Abs light came on and 4 wheel drive light flashed off and on. the next day backing out of my driveway the brakes made a very bad grinding noise. *tr

Right front tone ring cracked causing abs to malfunction and inability to brake safely. part is a very common failure point and ford should address this issue. *tr

The tone ring which inputs pulses to the abs computer fails on many many ford escapes. when this happens the abs computer applies the brakes in abs mode even though the vehicle is on dry pavement. this causes the vehicle to swerve, making directional control difficult. this can cause accidents! there is one hall effect ring on each wheel. the state of virginia states that this condition of a failed ring is a safety defect. see safety rejection dated 3-16-15 i.d. [xxx] enclosed. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I got my ford escape 2007 (42000 miles) completely inspected january 15th. not even a month later my brakes did not work. i realized i had to completely press them to the floor and luckily i was going up hill so i was able to maintain a safe speed and pull over. i had no warning with my brake light until i pulled the car over and parked!! inspected a month ago.......nothing!!! warning.....nothing! 650.00 dollars later they are fixed. this was very scary and unsafe and i am looking to see if there are any recalls out there. *tr

Pulled out of my parking spot and the abs/4wd light came on. went to dealer and had to replace the cracked front abs ring for the second time

First, the vehicle has been regularly maintained per the normal maintenance schedule. while driving on 03/09/13, noticed the abs dash light stayed lit. the 4wd dash light also started to blink intermittently. on 03/11/13 i called the local ford dealer and scheduled an appointment to have the problems diagnosed. the vehicle was diagnosed with a broken tone ring along with marginal brake pads. reportedly the abs and 4wd sensors are interconnected. reportedly, the front rotors had to be replaced because they were too pitted to be turned. questioned the service department about service bulletins or recalls, none were list on the escape concerning this issue. according to one of the service managers, the problem with the tone ring is not a common issue. while waiting on he repairs, i checked the internet and found that this is a common problem with repeat failures of the part. i presented this info to the service department without any relief or recourse other that i would probably have to pay to have this done again. another note, the repairs have a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty. if the defective part has to be replaced, the warranty goes back to the original date of install. this appears to be a common problem with possible serious repercussions which is not being addressed by ford. *tr

Tone ring cracked on drivers side. right side was replaced a year ago for 350 dollars. hello ford way to stand behind your product. *tr

The abs tone ring on the drivers side front cracked and became loose making the lights on the dash flash red for the 4wd and abs system. this ring is what the abs wheel speed sensor picks its signal up from to allow the abs computer to determine if the wheel is having a traction issue. this is causing the abs and traction control system to go crazy. i'm being told that corrosion forms underneath the ring building tension until it just cracks and pops itself free. ford has quoted me a price of $300 per ring replacement. my car has been well maintained. it's a shame that this problem is not being recalled by ford with a permanent solution. poor design from a lay-persons point of view. *js

Started to drive and the abs/4wd light came on. went to dealer and had to replace the cracked front abs ring. this happened on 27jan2012 and again on 23dec2013

Had to pay for the replacement tone ring on 06-11-2011 and now its broke again. i think ford should have a recall for this for safety reasons and not be charging the customer for these repairs. *tr
