Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. while driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the rear brake hoses needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 86,000.

As i drove my ford escape 2005 down a hill the brake line on the passenger side ruptured, causing the brake fluid to leak which quickly resulted in no braking ability. i managed to stop my car by down shifting into first gear and using the emergency brake. i was not able to control the car before going through a stop sign, fortunately, no cars or pedestrians were in the way. the mechanic who fixed the problem replaced the brake line on both the driver and passenger sides, as the driver side brake line was close to rupturing, too. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that she was attempting to exit from a parking space when the brake pedal depressed all the way down to the floor. the contact was unable to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the front brake linse broke and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed a report. the manufacturer then referred the contact to nhtsa. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 96,406 and the current mileage was 96,506. updated 05/31/12*lj

The front brake hose that connects the brake line to the brake calliper on the passenger side bearst a hole in the brake hose causing the suv to loose all brake fluid and to smash into to van infront of us. the hose broke at the top half of the hose between the brake line and the brake hose strut mount. the outer rubber brake hose coating looks to have dry rotted and the inner line then broke sometime later. the hose looks to have several other spots that also look rotted. i replaced front brake line and was bleeding the brake lines when i found the drivers side looked like it was ready to bearst at any time including several rotted spots at the upper part of the hose. i replaced both front brake lines in the front. two days after buying the brake lines, i returned to the auto parts store to purchase parts for another truck when the salesperson told me the next day after i bought the brake lines that another person had the same problem with his escape. the salesman was not sure of the year that ford escape was. i saved the brake lines for further inspection/investigation as to the reason they failed. i feel brake brake hose failure in a 05 suv is a major safety hazzard and should be recalled before someone is killed. *tr

Left forward rubber brake line failed. mechanic had to rplace them all due to severe wear. immenant failure. *tr

2005 ford escape "tone ring" on the axel throws off the abs and it engages at the tap of the brakes. grabbing the brakes, either slamming on brakes or no brakes at all. i have researched this and there are many many complaints from 01-10 escapes. dealers are charging for axel and ring to be replaced when all that needs replaced is the 15$ ring. i feel this should be recalled because it causes vehicles to flip over and also to not stop. my vehicle has 90,xxx miles on it and the abs light comes on and goes off. the vehicle will often not brake at all! i have had to put it in neutral and pull off of road. this has happened when abs light was not on! i feel this is a perfect defect to be recalled because it has to do with a major problem the brakes. please someone look into this. i have just spent 800 dollars fixing this and the mechanic said its very very common. googled it and found this to be very very common. thank you. *tr

While pulling into my driveway, my breaks suddenly failed, which caused me to (thankfully no more than) run into the tree at the end of my driveway. upon inspection, i realized that my passenger side brake line that connects to the wheel cylinder had failed due to deterioration. after replacing, and inspection of the driver side, that brake line too was deteriorated to the point of imminent failure.

Left front brake line failure. near 100% loss of braking action. pedal to the floor with very little stopping power. needed to shift vehicle into low gear and neutral to be able to stop vehicle. could not travel over 30mph, as there was not enough stopping force to bring the vehicle to a stop. *tr

2005 ford escape.the toner rings located on the cv axles are breaking which causes the abs braking system to fail ,which affects the braking system when applying the brakes. it is a very common problem which i think should be recalled due to safety. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that while braking from 65 mph, the brake pedal went to the floorboard abnormally. the contact added brake fluid to the vehicle and was able to drive home. the vehicle was later taken to the dealer where he diagnosed the failure at the brake lines and master cylinder. the dealer stated that a brake line was hitting against the power steering causing the brake line to fracture. the dealer repaired the brake line. the manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle warranty was expired therefore they would not assist with the repair. the failure and current mileage was 99,894. updated 01/13/11*lj updated 04/04/11

Front driver's side anti-lock brake tone ring sensor snapped off of rotor/hub area causing abs to falsely engage. only 38,000 miles on vehicle. lots of similiar entries on internet. *tr

On 9-9-08 i was in a front end collision, approximately 40mph, airbag did deploy, however the powder that came out with the airbag made my face and eyes burn. my 2005 ford escape 4cyl. sustained minimal damage ($5000.00). it took 3 weeks to fix, which was no big deal. yesterday, 10-4-08, while driving home from work, my escape was running fine until i turned and started to accelerate to get up to speed (40mph), my escape took the pedal from my foot and locked it to the floor, i have been asked by several people if i accidentally hit the cruise, and all i reply with is "it doesn't have cruise!" as my car started to speed up i tried to stop, my brakes would only kick back out at me and since i was just in a wreck i was a little scared. i turned into a parking lot and drove in circles until i could figure out how to stop it. i tried my ebrake but it didn't work, i tried pulling the pedal up, no good, i tried punching the pedal with my foot, no good. i didn't want to do any damage to the tranny so i didn't take it out of gear, finally i decided to try shutting it off, it shut off and is running fine now. i am certain that this is a huge problem mainly because i have read all of the postings for this car and found that many people are having problems in this area. you can be certain that if this happens again and there isn't anything done to fix it, i will get rid of it and stop buying fords all together. i am very disappointed that no real action has been taken with so many of these complaints. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. the dealer stated that the fuel rail pressure sensor needed to be replaced. the flow in the fuel line was uneven. ford has been issuing recalls on various vehicles because the fuel rail has carbon clumps in the hose wall that may leak in the wall over time. the dealer informed the contact that she would have to pay for the repair. she is displeased and refuses to pay. the current and failure mileages were 42,750. updated 04/16/08 *bf updated 04/16/08 *tr updated 06/23/10. *jb the consumer has since experienced a second failure. updated evoq 08/20/10*jb the consumer stated the front and rear brake hose was replaced. updated 11/25/14

The abs sensor rings on my front brakes keep getting cracks in them. this is disabling the abs on my vehicle. i get it fixed and then a year and 2 months later it cracks again. *tr

In 2006 i experienced the failure of my car to operate one morning. i initially thought that i had made the error since i have a manual vehicle i occasionally take my foot off the pedal; i had no idea why the car had stopped running right after i started it as i began to pull out of the parking space. the car stopped a couple of times which concerned me so i contacted the dealer in new jersey where i was located at the time for him to look at the car for this problem. he assured me that the parts would work and all was right again as i left the service department, new 5l8z-2c053-ba and yl8z-19048-aa parts installed. one year later, november 3, 2007 the same problem began to happen again. i immediately took the vehicle to the dealer and he informed me that the cable and the foot pedal vacuum were no longer operating (5l8z-2c053-ba and yl8z-19048-aa) as was the case the previous year and that he had to wait for a new part in order to replace these defective parts. i asked why this had happened again, and what i was told horrified me. the manufacturer most likely had not resolved the problem of the past and that the problem was in the parts. i asked why there was not a more life safety solution to this very dangerous problem and i was told that since this did not happen often it was not deemed a real issue. the rationale is appalling. how am i expected to be safe with this vehicle when the condition is not resolved it is just prolonged, with failure looming over me? how do i drive my child and the other members of my family and friends in a vehicle that can stop operating at any given moment?? my complaint is in regard to life safety and value of reciprocity. since there is no death as of yet, i must wait for the failure? this is emotionally stressful. *tr

Purchased 2005 ford escape in march 2007 with about 80k miles. within the month, the abs light began to intermittently come on. it is now september 2011 and the problem still occurs and has not been solved. had obd ii diagnostic codes tested. no codes found while light is on or off. manually turning off the light is only temporary. there are no physical problems with the brakes. ford should have this recalled. please note that when abs light is on, there is clicking that can be heard and felt through the brake pedal while braking. the vehicle is slow to stop. *tr

Purchased 05 escape at 40,096 miles in july '06. about 2 weeks later, rotors were warped so dealer replaced them for free. about 10,000 miles later they were warped again and they "turned" the rotors. about 4,000 miles later they were warped again so the dealer replaced them again. now less than 5,000 miles later, they are warped again. dealer looked at the car and refused any repairs, only noting that there is *nothing* wrong with the braking system, only the rotors are warped, with no known reason except it must be "the way i am driving". just today now the abs light is steady on, with no reason that i can notice from my own driving. my own research tells me that it may be a "tone ring" on the axle, which requires a repair for over $1,000 for each axle, as the entire axle must be replaced to repair the "tone ring". *jb

Have read on your site numerous complaints with the ford 2005 escape engine and the problem that it speeds up during braking. i have also experienced this problem. however the problem is the driver !! if you are large person or have large feet. during braking the brake pedal goes lower than the gas pedal and your shoe toe catches the gas pedal and accelerates the engine, this has happened numerous times. the gas pedal has very little resistance and you are not aware that your shoe is pushing it down. it appears also that the pedals are closer together than normal. i have other vehicles and have had many cars and this is the first i have experienced this dangerous condition. *nm

Abs left sensor failed requiring replacement of the axle. *ak

Dt: the contact stated vehicle surged forward while braking four times. the vehicle was taken to the dealership twice. they were unable to duplicate the problem. therefore, nothing has been done to correct the problem. this happened at any particular speed. *ak

I had a 2003 ford escape that was 2wd. i needed 4wds so we purchased a 2004 escape xlt based on previous good experience. what has ford done to this previously excellent vehicle? we have two major complaints, but nhtsa does not consider four attempts to repair ac that is leaking freon into the passenger compartment worthy of a complaint. so we will address complaint #2. vehicle brakes irradically, makes grinding noises, and brakes constantly hum. we thought this was due to being a 4wd, but after visiting your website find this to be a predominate problem on all 2005 escapes.

Front brake rotors go out of round. one dealer resurfaced, warr, not there long after out of round again. replaced with new, again out of round . another dealer replaced rotors twice. again out of round. vehicle pulsates while stopping. *nm

When braking at a stop sign or a traffic light the brake pedal would constantly go to the floor. the vehicle is at the dealer, and the problem is still undetermined.*ak a severe grinding noise is heard when the brakes are applied. the consumer stated that the brake pedal is getting soft when the brakes are applied. *tc...*ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. on two occasions, the abs spontaneously malfunctioned. prior to the failures, the contact noticed that the abs and four wheel drive warning indicators were illuminated on the instrument panel. the risk of a crash was increased. the dealer stated that the front brake needed to be replaced at the cost of $1,200. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer in reference to nhtsa campaign id number 07v156000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module). the failure mileage was 40,000 and current mileage was 80,000.
