We have classified the 138 complaints from 2005 Ford Escape about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
dashboard back lighting failed causing left side dash blackout of temperature gauge & left side of speedometer. radio back lighting failed causing a blackout of the left side radio buttons. *tr
The pcm module on the ford escape dies during operation. while driving in mid transit the car died, and would not restart in the middle of the road. i have heard other stories of people driving on the highway, and having this problem happen to them going 60,70, and even 80 mph. mine was only going about 30, and no cars were behind me. the module has been replaced twice, and could be extremely dangerous if died on a busy highway or interstate. *tt
On several at least 12 occasions, while driving between 30-65 mph the car (2005 ford escape) stubbles and the theft light appears. in one case we were about to pass a vehicle on a two lane highway and had to brake and swerve suddenly to avoid a head-on collision. vehicle has been taken to ford several times and no codes were found and they have still not addressed the problem. i did some research which appears that the pcm is likely damaged due to a rf issue with the incorrect spark plugs being installed on the early manufactured 2005 ford escapes. unfortunately ford will not doing anything until the computer actually is destroyed, which also fries the coils (approx. $3,000). dealerships will not do anything for us and the corporate office told us the same. we now have a low mileage vehicle that cannot be trusted safely that cannot be fixed without spending $3,000+ for a problem that ford has known about for several years. *tr
I was on my way to work in the morning on a busy highway. just got into the passing lane and the whole thing died right there in the passing lane. thank god no one was very close to me and that there was a policeman coming down the mountain and saw me. he pulled behind me to block the lane. this was a very unsafe situation. if someone would have been close in back of me, they would have ass-ended me or would have had to quickly get in another lane or oncoming traffic. i had to have the vehicle towed to the garage. replaced the spark plugs, all 6 coils and the computer was fried. after a bit of research online, i saw that there are many complaints about this unsafe issue with the 2005 escape. some suddenly stopping on the interstate. from what i have read, it is due to the spark plugs ford installed in the 2005 escape. not understanding why there is no recall. this is a very unsafe situation, that ford can stop by putting out a recall. would they rather have a law suite when someone loses their life due to their negligence that can be prevented. this was a quite an expensive bill that i had to pay which could have been prevented if ford would have issued a recall. i will think twice before buying another ford. *tr
I am a wedding photographer and while traveling about 4.5 hours away from home to shoot a wedding i had problems about 2 hours into my trip. i was on interstate 20 just outside of columbia, sc. i was in the left hand lane behind a semi truck, there was another semi truck in the right lane beside me and behind me i had a large van. i was going about 65-70 when suddenly, the car lost all power including the steering and all the warning lights blinked on. i somehow regained control of the car by shifting in neutral and restarting. i hate to think what would have happened had i not been able to react as fast as i did as the van behind me had to slam on his breaks to keep from hitting me. once the semi truck was cleared of the right lane i got over and turned on my flashers. since i had it running i was too scared to pull over on the side. i got to my nearest exit and pulled over. i turned off the vehicle and all the warning lights went off except the abs and the check engine light. i restarted and drove about a mile to a mechanic. they could not see anything wrong but heard the misfire. the car was towed to classic ford in columbia, sc. i had to rent a car to finish my trip as i couldn't let down a couple about to be married. i just got the estimate to the tune of over $2700.00. it's the pcm module along with coil, spark plugs and a few other things. i am now debating about weather to fix it or not as all the reviews i have read it seems like people continue to have problems after it's fixed. it sounds like ford really needs to figure out a way to fix this chronic problem before someone dies in an accident.
2005 ford escape was driving down the road and the car cut out, causing a major safety concern. it was taken to the garage to be repaired. the diagnostic test said it was the coils. the coils were repaired and the car continued to misfire. it was later known that the computer was fried and needed to be replaced. after some internet research, it appears that this is a very common problem with the ford escape. *tr

We were driving from pa to ga for a wedding in my 2005 ford escape. i have 65,000 miles on my escape. the entire car lost all power...no power steering, gas, abs, etc. all of the warning lights in the car came on and we lost everything going 75 on a highway in n.c. we were able to get to a service station who then replaced 2 coils and 2 spark plugs. then they realized that the entire computer was dead, the "pcm". ford said they were on backorder so it would be about a week, as they "moved us to the front of the line". we had to rent a car for a week while we waited for the part...finishing our trip to ga for the wedding, then back up to pa the next day (our home). we had to go back to n.c. in the rental car (another 114 hours round trip) to exchange cars back when mine was finally fixed. the ford dealer replaced the pcm but at the same time said that there was another coil bad...another $350 on top of the $750 i already paid (plus $400 for the rental car). after looking online, i have realized that a lot of people have had this same issue...and to expect the coils and computer to go out again, even after replacing them. apparently the 2005 escape was made with a faulty coil pack, and they know about it. when calling ford, they just say, "sorry about that, there isn't anything we can do". there are 6 coils in the escape...i have now had 3 replaced...when the others go out, it is expected that the pcm will also go out. i am now afraid to drive my car, as i do not trust it...i never know when i may lose power. we were "lucky" that something worse did not happen, as my son was also in the car with us. *tr
E.c.m. went out, and in my research to find a remanufactured brain i discovered alot of complaints about this part. i also found out that the part for my car is not available as remanufactured. my car is a 2005 ford escape sport. the cost for this part is very expensive... *tr
While driving our 2005 ford escape, we were on the highway, in the acceleration lane, traveling approximately 45 miles an hour accelerating up to 55, the vehicle suddenly shuttered, and then died, the check engine, overdrive, abs, and airbag lights illuminated on the console. i had to hit the hazard lights and put the vehicle into neutral narrowly avoiding being hit by a tractor trailer truck. i was able to maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder. i attempted to restart the vehicle and while it restarted it was misfiring and check engine light was on. the vehicle was unable to move under its own power. we were on the side of a highway with our 4 year old daughter in the car during morning rush hour. thankfully we were not hit and killed by this ford engine failure. *tr
March 2011. i was driving down the highway and my vehicle acted like a hiccup or misfire. i thought it was a fluke, but it happened again a few miles later then all of the sudden, it started chugging really bad and eventually died. it was after midnight on a very low traveled area and i had my two year old in the car with me. luckily it started back up and i was able to drive a few more miles (thank god) to a hotel for the night. if this would have happened 45 minutes earlier. i would have been an hour to the nearest town! not a great feeling with a toddler in the car, an unfamiliar road, and after business hours. come to find out it was the coil packs at first, so we replaced two of them like the mechanic suggested. then they called and said that didn't fix the problem and we now needed a new computer. not knowing any different, we replaced the computer. just last friday the same exact thing happened to me. so this would be six coil packs and two computers in a year. not happy! we do not have the money to keep making repairs like this. not a huge ford fan at this point...and very sick to my stomach to read soooo many complaints about similar situations from others all across the country. there are a lot of hard working people out there who can't afford to have vehicle malfunctions like we're having. someone is going to get killed if they haven't already with this uncertain problem occurring! please do something! *kb
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph the computer shut down causing the vehicle to stall. the vehicle would not restart and was towed to an authorized mechanic who stated that the computer burned itself out and should be replaced. the repair will include replacing the computer, six coil packs and six spark plugs at a cost to the contact of $2000. there were no recalls or warranties for the repair. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 110,000.
While driving on us highway in the evening, 2005 ford escape xlt suddenly started vibrating, check engine light lit and then all other lights on the dash flashed as vehicle lost power but was able coast to a stop on the shoulder of the road. this was a dangerous situation as vehicle suddenly stopped while traveling at highway speeds without any indication to the vehicles following this vehicle that it was going to suddenly decrease speed and stop. fortunately vehicle following was able to pass safely. vehicle would not start and was towed to dealership. code p0353 was indicated and tsb 10-18-10 was used to service vehicle. all 6 cops were replaced along with pcm. vehicle still did not operate properly and on inspection by tech, catalytic converter was found to be plugged and was replaced. prior to this incident, vehicle was operating normally and had approx. 45,000 miles on it. *tr
1st time(2008)53,972 miles, still under warranty, check engine light came on, was running rough took in diagnosed as faulty coil, replaced coil & spark plug for $741.00 2nd time check engine light on, running rough, missing, parked car for little bit then car started up & ran fine, took into service & they couldn't find anything wrong but suggested we replace all coils & spark plugs this time for $1500.00 w, charged us $70.00 we chose to have our mechanic check it @$40.00 & he couldn't get any readings regarding replacing coils,- 3rd time check engine light came on auto misfiring, running rough, engine quit while driving at 50mph, was able to coast car off of highway & park it on side of road. called our mechanic & he came over and diagnosed car as faulty pcm $200.00 had car towed at our expense back to ford where their techs confirmed it was a faulty pcm & not faulty coils after many calls with ford, ford agreed to replace pcm cause they said it was indeed under warranty which i at first was told it wasn't covered under warranty. *ln
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. while driving 45 to 50 mph the vehicle started to hesitate and then it stalled. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who took the vehicle to the dealer. the dealer replaced the computer due to the computer since it burned out and the ignition keys were also replaced. the contact was responsible for the repair cost of $1000. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance because the warranty was not valid. the failure mileage was 61,000. updated 04/07/11*lj the mechanic stated the problem because the low voltage spark plugs were the original equipment installed. updated 04/25/11
In december 2010, my 2005 ford escape limited starting misfiring at 79,000 miles and the service emissions system message came on. i took it to a ford dealership and they couldn't get the light to come back on or any error codes to appear. the next day, the misfiring happened again and the ford dealership diagnosed it as a bad prc computer. ford replaced the main computer, under warranty, at about 79,900 miles. the misfire went away for about 3 weeks and then recurred at 82,000 miles. this time, the car dramatically lost power, will not properly shift into gear, shakes when idling and maxes out at about 30 mph on any hill. the service emissions message and check engine light are constantly on. i took it to the same ford dealership and they stated the coil packs are all misfiring and causing the main computer to fry. they stated that all 6 coils need replaced at a cost of $900, and the main computer also needs replaced again. the computer replacement will be free, because it was just replaced 3 weeks ago when the part was still covered under an 80,000 mile warranty. the regular cost to replace the computer would have been around $950. *tr
The first issue i had with my car was in december of 2010. i immediately took my car to a repair place and they told me that the coils and the plugs were out and that they needed to be replaced. i assumed that this was just time to get this repaired because my car was right over the 100,000 mile mark. everything seemed fine until may of 2011 when the problem returned. this time i took my car to a ford service center. this time i noticed that my car would run ok up to about 35 mph and then after that speed it would start jerking. if i take my foot off the gas it stops, but if i leave my foot on the gas and continue to accelerate, the car shuts off completely. i haven't taken my car anywhere that i have to drive over 45mph but recently i noticed that if i try to accelerate past 35, that instead of jerking to turn my car off, the harder i push the gas, it feels like i am pushing the brake with that same intensity when i haven't even touched the brake. im afraid that while pushing the gas, the car is going to brake and that someone else is going to slam into the back of my car and hurt my 2 yr old son in his carseat in the back. i avoid driving this car unless i absolutely have to because it is dangerous. it seems that many other owners of the same car i have are having the same or a similar issue. this really needs to be checked into because ford is aware that this is a common issue but will do nothing about it. it seems like they are waiting for someone to get hurt before the assume responsibility. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle on the shoulder of the road. the failure continued intermittently. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostics. the vehicle was repaired. the contact was not aware of the repairs performed. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
I own a 2005 ford escape and have numerous issues since i purchased the vehicle in november 2004. the transmission has been replaced and one coil pack. throughout the time i have owned the vehicle the theft light comes on and tried to shut the vehicle down while i was driving (40+mph). it cleared for a little while after the transmission was replaced, then it returned. ford changed one ignition coil and said that if we changed the spark plugs it would probably fix the theft shut down problem. well we changed the spark plugs and the vehicle continued trying to shut down the vehicle while i was driving(40+mph). now the vehicle will not start at all. there is juice from the battery, all the lights and radio come on, but the car refuses to turn over. we have checked everything possible, including: the battery, fuses, and having it tested by a certified mechanic. the anti-theft system or ford pats ii system seems to be defective which also be connected to the pcm. there are thousands of complaints regarding the 2005 ford escape pats ii system and pcm. i do not understand why a recall has not been forced. the 2005 ford escape were initially released with the wrong spark plugs which causes damage and they did not recall the spark plugs. with these very evident manufacturer defects, and tsbs that have been distributed through ford - there needs to be a recall and items repaired. consumers should not have to pay to fix the problems that ford caused and will not take responsibility for. my vehicle is a 2005 ford escape xlt v6 3.0l purchased at ukiah ford lincoln mercury in ukiah, california. *tr
Smart junction box failure. part# 5l8z15604ga this part controls many of the electronic elements of the vehicle; directional signals, hazard lights instrument panel, horn, locks, windows, security system. various electrical elements fail intermittently because of this defective part. the part is on back-order and continues to be pushed to a later date. as of 11/16, the part is on back-order until jan 17, 2011. i have seen other complaints about this issue, and see that the part has been on back-order since (at least) august 2010. there is obviously a high demand for this part, or it is being redesigned and ford is trying to avoid a recall. *tr
I have had recent problems with a rough running engine on my 2005 ford escape. had the problem diagnosed as a faulty pcm computer. repair shop tried to get the computer rebuilt, but could get no help. ford informed us that computers are on backorder for 2 to 3 months. ford released a bulletin describing the need to replace all spark plugs and ignition coils to prevent pcm damage. it seems to me ford has admitted to this problem, yet offers no help. many other owners have started to see the same problem. the problem seems to be occurring in many more 2005 models, resulting in many very costly repairs. *tr
My wife was going to the bank in our 2005 ford escape with 39150 miles. she heard a noise and stopped to see if she had a flat. everything seemed ok so she continued on. before going one block the dash warning lights came on so she drove around the block and parked the car in the garage. upon exiting she noticed smoke coming from the hood area. while she was trying to call me at work, more smoke began pouring out, she heard a pop and flames and smoke began coming out. a neighbor saw what was going on and called 911. thankfully the prompt response of the fire dept. limited the damage to the vehicle and the home only suffered smoke damage. we are currently living in a motel while the house gets cleaned. the escape was a total loss. updated 11/03/10*jb *tr
I am writing in concerns to a serious safety issue that ford motor company has failed to address. i am an owner of a 2005 ford escape which i purchased new in november of 2004. i have been waiting two months to have a faulty electrical part, the smart junction box, replaced. since august 23rd my vehicle has been unsafe to operate without this part as my turn signals, head lights, and hazard lights are inoperable, as well as power windows, interior and dash lights, power locks, radio and clock display and my ability to unlatch the rear door. after researching the information myself i was forced to wait another week to be scheduled to have my vehicle scheduled for repair. on sept. 7th the ford mechanic confirmed the part i told him i needed was correct and said part was on back order and should be available in two weeks. on sept.21st, i called to ask if the part was available. it was then that the mechanic said that he neglected to mention the part would not be ordered unless i paid in advance. i paid for the part on sept23. on sept. 29th the general manager at worden-martin called to say there was nothing he could do. i asked if it were possible to have a used part put in temporarily while i wait. i received a reply that i would have to pay $350 to have that part put in with no guarantee that the part would function properly and no compensation if the replacement part were to fail. not wanting to throw away $350 for a faulty part, i felt i had no choice but to wait another week for the part to arrive. after waiting two weeks i never received a call, so i called the dealer to inquire on the part. i was told the part may not be available until oct. 25th. i called ford motor company's customer service who told me it was their distributor and not ford's responsibility and the part should be available be available oct. 15th because the part, ordered by many, was being redesigned. on oct. 19th i called again and was told the part may not be available until november. *tr
While driving 50 mph without warning the vehicle shut off by itself. if it were not 5:30 in the morning i may have caused an accident or been killed. i was able to restart it, but the engine light came on and it ran very hard. it then gave me a service emissions warning. the mechanic states that all 6 spark plugs and 6 coils need replaced and that the computer system was fried (smv).furthermore, he stated that it was an error in manufacturing in regards to the spark plug installation. i now find that this is a common problem with the 2005 ford escapes but no recalls or notices have been made. *tr
Vehicle fire on 2005 ford escape (vin [xxx]) on 3/23/2010, i noticed the vehicle suddenly (when driving) began to run rough. (like a spark plug had failed). we immediately pulled into a gas station and inspected the engine compartment (for broken belts and the like) no obvious issue was observed. when i started the vehicle again, i noticed the check engine light was on. immediately i drove the vehicle home and contacted a service garage. i was on my way to take the vehicle into service when i noticed an electrical smell. i pulled into the next gas station, opened the hood, and noticed a small fire located at the #1 cylinder coil pack. i used the gas station fire extinguisher to put out the fire. car was towed the rest of the way to the garage. car had been driven no more than 10 miles after first sign of failure. fire was small enough to not involve police or fire departments, so no fire or police report is available. no one was injured and no property damage occurred outside the vehicle. garage said that if i had limited the damage by extinguishing the fire when i did. garage replaced coil pack, wire pigtail (melted), and intake manifold (also melted by fire). old parts are available for inspection. car was repaired but check engine light came back on after 50 miles. care was immediately shut off and will be towed back to garage. failure code is p0351. (same coil that was replaced is showing bad again) car had approx 117,000 miles on it when fire took place. no other major service events in its lifetime. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Car was driving fine, parked for several hours and then it would not start. towed to a shop and all coils were out. after more diagnosis, the spark plugs, the coils (pocs) and the powertrain computer module had to be replaced for a total cost of $2600 on a 5 year old car with 63,000 miles on it. most likely the spark plug rf caused the pcm to crash. had to replace the plugs, coils and pcm including software and programming. i have read on several complaint blogs that ford knows of the problems (defective plugs) and has issued 2 tsb, 05111 and 0926. problem should be under the emission warranty, but ford says it is a ignition problem. i think it is ford's problem and they should be compelled to repair the problem. i have read numerous complaints on blogs for this problem where the car just stops regardless if you are on the freeway or in your driveway.
The problem is when driving 2005 ford escape the engine cuts out. when driving on interstate 5 at 60 mph the engine will shut off and then start back up. the theft light lights up when this happens. also, at any speeds the engine will cut out. example is when at stop sign at intersection or cross street, while in drive and proceeding across intersection the cars engine and all electrical will turn off. i will then have to shift car into neutral and restart car and then shift into drive and proceed across intersection hopefully without getting hit from other cars. this has happened with a car full of grandchildren on several occasions. the cars engine cut out happens at greater occurrences when driving up inclines.
2005 for escape limited edition was passing another car on a two lane road when the engine completely shut down and check engine light came one. had to almost stop going the wrong way on a two lane road so the cars going the same direction as me could pas so i could get back in the correct lane and pull over to the side of the road. had the codes checked and two of the 6 coils were showing up as having issues. code were p0352 po354 there is a tsb from ford tsb 10-18-10. i have replaced the coils and the issue still is through the codes for the coils. according the tsb there could be interference with the pcm from the coils and plugs. the consequences of this issue is that if i had not been observant and caught this before another car coming at me was closer there would have been a head on collision because of loss of power from this situation. i have not replaced the pcm or had an oscilloscope to check the pcm at this point. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. while driving 65 mph the vehicle stalled without and prior warnings. the vehicle was towed to a local repair facility. the mechanic replaced the pcm, ignition coil, and the spark plugs. two weeks after the repair, all of the electrical components, including the parts that were replaced had melted. the current and failure mileages were 110,000.
I was driving on the new york state thruway at about 65mph. my car rapidly decelerated and all the panel lights lit up. there was no crash, but that was just luck- had i been in heavy traffic at the time of the incident i probably would have been rear ended. what ultimately failed is my power train control module ( pcm) on my 2005 ford escape. turns out there is a technical service bulletin describing the failure i experienced; refer to ford's bulletin 09-2-6, which supercedes 05-11-1. i got lucky, as i said, because i just happened to be in a break in traffic, which up to that point had been bumper to bumper. the rapid deceleration was the result of losing 3 cylinders, so it occurred without the benefit of brake lights coming on. rapid deceleration, without brake lights, in heavy traffic, due a problem which ford knew about since 2005 (the year i bought the car) sure seem like a severe accident waiting to happen. no notice was provided of the failure prone spark plugs which initiate the failures. *tr
From one day to another the car started shaking when it was at a stop or light and the engine light turned on, the a/c stopped working and cd player too. i took it to the dealer and i was told that the computer needed to be changed and it would cost me about $2000 and this does not include the a/c or cd player. i asked if it could be reset or something cheaper could be done and i was told that no. the guy there said he did not know why this happens but it does and he said that he sees this kind of situation every two months with the ford escapes. i think that if it has happened to so many people and we have to pay over $2000 to repair it, it is not fair for us as consumer because i honestly do not have that kind of money to pay. *tr
The driver's front door began causing problems. occasionally, it does not open, period. additionally, the lock mechanism is inoperable. i removed both driver's and passenger's front door panels to inspect, compare and finally determine the issue. there seems to be a problem, which a friend temporarily fixed. it--the exterior door handle--after tweeking, worked for a while. fast forward, 2015, i cannot open nearly 3 of my doors. one will not open at all (rear pass.) the driver's front door is doing the same thing the rear door handle--it lost tension and won't open at all. after looking it up on youtube, i determined the locking system is the culprit. in order to repair this inoperable door handle situation, apparently i need to pull the interior panels, remove the exterior handles and replace them entirely. currently, i have the driver's door panel removed because in the event the handle doesn't work at all, i'd have to climb over from the passenger side just to drive my 2005 ford escape.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle shut off completely. the contact pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway and restarted the vehicle. he called the manufacturer about repairs to the powertrain control module and they reduced the repair cost to $1,100. the contact stated that ford should pay for the repairs since the failure was a major safety issue. the current and failure mileages were 92,000. updated 4/23/09 *cn the ignition coil assembly was replaced. updated 04/27/09.*jb
There were no events leading up to the breakdown. the car simply quit running. it had fire but would not turn over. we had no problems prior to this. we took it to the ford dealer. the first problem they told us was that the chip in the key was bad. the had a new key made. from there, it was the pcm computer and then a second computer and then 3 power packs. they also replaced the plugs and wires and misc. other parts. *tr
I was on my way to connecticut from maine on 12/24/08. i noticed that while we were traveling on the highway the car started running rough and skipping. i immediately pulled over to the breakdown lane where the car stalled. the car would start but not keep running. called aaa and had to have the car towed to the nearest ford dealership in plainfield ct. vehicle could not be immediately repaired due to the holiday. the car was repaired on dec. 26, 2008. the dealership replaced the power control module and also replaced 2 ignition coils # 2 and 3. could not save pcm because there was a core charge for it, but i do have the ignition coils. vehicle had 38,711 miles when this happened. then on may 17, 2009 the #5 coil failed and had to be replaced. i still have that coil also. the dealer said that the coils were not warrantied under the emission control warranty which is 5 year 50,000 miles. the repairs done in ct totaled $729.48. the subsequent repair was done by me. the cost of the coil was $79.99. *tr

about 6 weeks ago, my wife called me at work to report her 2005 escape "made a funny noise" when she tried to start it. when i got home that afternoon, i went to investigate it. when i put the key in and turned it on, it exploded. the intake manifold disentergrated and schrapnel from it severed wiring harness, knocked parts off etc. having 39k miles on it i had it towed to a local top rated mechanic. after the mechanic repaired the mechanical damage, he sent it to beach ford for a pcm issue. they replaced the pcm (under ford warranty, admitting that the computer was ?fried? and this has been a problem with other escapes) but absolves any knowledge or responsibility as to why the explosion occurred in the first place because a ?third party person? repaired the car before beach ford saw it. a ?mike? at ford customer service who based on conversations with beach ford, said that repairs by a third party precludes ford from any responsibility as to why the car exploded in the first place. my mechanic has done internet research and found other reports of pcm issues with the escapes causing problems from failures to explosions. a tech at the ford dealer said it has to do with stray voltage being induced into the wiring and going back up into the pcm, but then ford and the service director denied any knowldege of this. ford said the car is repaired (at my expense) and washed their hands of this situation leaving me with a car that has only 39,000 miles on it and exploded in my driveway causing sever damage, and no attempt to investigate why it happened. i have all the damaged parts that were replaced and told ford that. no one will address why it exploded in the first place. what if this happened at 55 mph vice in my driveway, or my wife was home and i opened the hood and had her start the car so i could listen for that noise she said? please help me out. *tr
I own a ford escape 2005 four door 4wd that has been every 2-3 years in the shop for coils and computer damage. ford has a problem with these cars and the problem is that last friday i was driving on a main road when all of a sudden my car just died while i am driving in a 50 mile zoned road. luckily, i was able to quickly maneuver the vehicle to a safe spot. i was informed that it will cost $2700 to replace the computer that was shorted out due to the coils going bad - i had the coils changed two times since 2007 ford knows about this problem ford srb 09.2.6 and tsb 09-2-6 ignition coil problem that so many others are having with this car - the car stalls always when driving 50 or more on a main road or highway and it is very dangerous to all of a sudden lose power on a highway at high speeds and not being able to even move the steering wheel to glide your car safely to the side of the road due to the steering locking up because the car dies totally. the computer codes that show up are p0351 -p0354 and some other ones that i didn't write down when i was talking to the thompsons mechanic. i cant believe that this year and model wasn't recalled - according to thompsons, there is a back order for the computer module for this car, two weeks minimum due to so many escapes 2005 needing this same computer because it was shorted out prematurely and unsafely. it never happens when you drive less than 50 so this is strange and very dangerous.i would like ford to repay us the damages and costs that us customers, have dished out recurring every 2-3 years. coils should not have to be replaced that many times nor should the plugs and absolutely not the computer. please look into this and make ford do a recall and retroactive since they already have so many complaints about this same problem but they don't want to or refuse to do a mass recall. *tr
My 2005 ford escape was bought new. the first situation occurred in 2007. car started misfiring on major nyc highway at 50 miles an hour at night and finally stalled out. made it to side of highway and waited for tow truck. that situation cost me a new computer coils and whatever else was necessary in order to repair car adding up to 1300. after that and at the present time, november 20011 i have experienced several stallings on highways leaving me in unsafe scenarios that could have been extremely dangerous. i have replaced countless coils, plugs, had catalytic converter issues, along with alarm tripping, the interior lights going off for no reason and now after a trip from ny to va my car let me down again. delaying my travel home and having to stay in va for repair finding out i need another computer. major disappointment and a money pit. attention has to be brought to this matter and the hundreds of other customers who have experienced the same situation. ford has to acknowledge these major problems and move in a direction to remedy them. this is a huge safety issue. it's not one car failing on the highway it's multiple and the evidence is in the reviews. the car has 92,000 miles and with the amount of money i have dumped into it i should have a luxury automobile sitting in my drive way. i can no longer put up with this and have no other choice but to escape from my ford escape. it's not safe! and i demand action be taken and want to be acknowledged and contacted. *tr
Dt*: the contact stated while the air conditioner was on, there was a hesitation while accelerating during a left hand turn. the dealership was unable to determine a problem, but replaced a chip. five weeks later, the problem returned and the vehicle was taken to the dealership. the dealership was unable to determine the problem, but reprogrammed the computer to the latest specifications. the dealership stated because it was a four cylinder engine, there would be a hesitation with the air conditioner on. *ak

Dt: the contact was traveling at 60 mph on the freeway and the vehicle lost power. there was no warning prior to the failure. the emergency brake was used to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to a dealership, who determined it was the spark plugs. also the coil pack malfunctioned. the vehicle is at the dealership. *ak
My wife started our 2005 escape and placed our grandaughter in her car seat. my wife smelled something burning and when she looked out her window, she noticed the driver's side mirror was engulfed in flames. she quickly shut the vehicle off, removed my crying grandaughter from her seat, and attempted to put the flames out. she eventually succeeded, but not before the heat cracked the mirror and melted the housing. i took my vehicle to a ford dealership, and it was discovered (and noted) that the heating element inside the mirror melted and started the fire. pictures were taken and sent to ford motor company for repair authorization. ford responded with a letter to me, titled "general release of all claims," and directed me to sign it before repairs could be authorized. i did not sign the legal document, as i was unsure of the meaning of all the legal terms. on 18 feb 05, a representative from ford motor comapany consumer affairs called me. (vincent d. kirksey) he was very rude and demanding. he basically told me i had two options: either sign the form and have ford repair my vehicle, or he would rescind the "offer" and make me go through my insurance company. i asked him several times what the form was for, and he replied it was necessary to authorize the repair and that is was a policy of ford with this type of incident. i told him it sounded like i had a third option - he told me to go ahead and use it - he was rescinding ford's offer to repair my vehicle under warranty. i am concerned with my family's safety - we now drive our 2005 escape with a fire extinguisher in the vehicle - we do not want to burn up or have our vehicle destroyed.
I have a 2005 ford escape. when bringing the car to a stop in traffic it sometimes jumps ahead for sevearl feet before i'm able to bring it to a full stop. i have owned the car for ten months and this has occurred on five separate occasions. i have had the car inspected by the local ford dealer on several different occasions. they have tried but are unable to determine the cause. believe me, it has nothing to do with putting the foot on the wrong pedal, etc. etc. at this point i'm unable to determine whether the problem results from acceleration from the motor or slippage in the braking system. *ak
Brakes are making noise intermittingly. it sounds like blowing in a bottle. went to the dealership for service 3 times in the first month of ownership. they keep grinding down the rotors and it's not helping. apparantly ford corp. is aware of the problem and are trying to find a cure. they don't know what to do at this point. also, stealth security system failed, and the vehicle had to be towed back to the dealer for repair. this also happened in first month of ownership.
Consumer complained about a computer problem. when putting vehicle in reverse it went forward, and when putting it in drive it did nothing. consumer took vehicle to repair shop 3 times, but mechanic could not find anything wrong. when vehicle was put on the computer it showed no error message, nothing was wrong. consumer turned the vehicle off and then turned it back on, and it worked fine. consumer should not have to do this because this was a new vehicle, 2005 model. therefore, consumer felt that there was a malfunctioned computer in the vehicle. *ak
