I have been dealing with this door latch sensor issue for the duration of my ownership on my ford edge. i don't see how it is possible that our vehicles meet nhtsa standard federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) no. 206, door locks and door retention components. the testing for that standard would have been done in a laboratory, and it is apparent that contaminants out in the field are making their way into the door lock assembly and compromising the sensor - it is not a stretch to consider the latch itself may be deteriorating as well. there is no way to know if the door is fully shut. the interior lights coming on while driving at nighttime from the unpredictable sensor. i just replaced a battery 10/3/16, failed from the sensor draining it repeatedly, bought the largest capacity oem replacement i could get for it from from the dealer. while parked, even for hours and days on end untouched, the car will periodically sense the door is opened and closed (though it hasn't been), and the parking/convenience lighting will come on and go back off again.
The door ajar light and warning dings when the door is definitely shut. if i open and close the door multiple times it will sometimes go off. the interior lights stay on and the door cannot be locked when this happens, creating a safety issue. causes battery to drain because interior lights stay on and i have to drive with lights on which makes nighttime driving dangerous. this is a known issue for this vehicle and ford needs to recall it.
The drivers side door sensor will come on indicating that the drivers side door is open, when it is in fact closed tight. it will cause my lights to remain on awhile after driving, and anytime i stop then accelerate, it will ding to notify me that the door is still open. which is extremely frustrating. also, because it thinks the door is open, the dome lights stay on longer which has drained my battery, to the point that i've had to jump start my car. the sensor indicated the door is open despite being stationary or moving. *tr
Door ajar sensor stays on even when the door is closed. interior lights stay on while i'm driving causing dangerous conditions at night. chimes "door ajar every time i let off the brakes which is very distracting. door will not lock when the keys are in the ignition because the car thinks the door is open. this is all very distracting and unsafe. ford needs to recall this before someone gets in an accident or robbed because they cannot lock the doors. i cannot see to backup at night with the interior lights on.
The driver side front door closes but the door ajar warning light stays on and is annoying. my wife took it in and they wanted 500.00 to fix it on a 3yr. old car they can't make a latch to last longer than 3 yrs.?
The car cannot recognize when the driver's door is closed. the light panel will show door open, a light will come on telling me the door is open, shift into park, and if i am driving, sounds will chime until i park. the door occasionally will be recognized as closed, but 80% of the time, it will not. i,was told at the dealer that the problem is common in fords and they need to replace the latch mechanism in the door.
Left door sensor/latch is not working properly after 65,000 miles. affects door locks while driving and parked. the door locks go up and down intermittently and unexpectantly. affects overhead lighting and the remote start. dangerous to have the doors not locked especially if young kids are in back seat.
Driver side door latch is faulty. claims the door is open, even when it's not. unable to lock doors, and now just got a dead battery because the interior lights stay on.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar warning indicator illuminated while attempting to drive. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 40,000. updated 12/01/16*lj the consumer also stated the warning buzzer would not go out when the door was closed. the dealer cleaned the door switch . updated 12/15/16.*jb
Door locks do not work, can pop open when car is in motion.
2013 ford edge sel with 33000 miles, driver door ajar warning light stays on even after closing the door several times. it keeps the interior lights on while driving, continously warns driver with door open messages on dashboard even when it's door is closed. i believe this issue also drained my car battery since i had to replace it back in sept 2016. ford please recall and fix this issue asap.
The rear door is continually stating that it is ajar and all doors refuse to lock automatically when put in "drive".
My drivers side door when i shut it, the door ajar light stays on along with the dome lights. it only took a few times re shutting the door to make this go away. however, just recently it has been staying on longer and harder to get to go off. it has also been coming on when driving and i have to pullover to try to get this to turn off. i cannot lock the doors when this happens causing a very unsafe travel along with the lights staying on. if i had kids in my vehicle i would feel they could open the doors due to this failure and fall out. when driving and this happens the light comes on and causes a glare and could cause an accident! even after ford does their "cleaning" to the door it still happens after a couple months. the door latch and components have to be replaced completely to have this fixed.
Front driver side door latch warning light and interior lights come on while driving, door needs to be slammed shut a couple of times for warning lights to turn off. warning light appears more frequently and now appearing while driving vehicle on highway. doors will not lock and interior lights are on, until door is slammed shut.
When closing the driver door the interior lights stay on with the "door ajar" warning light illuminated. it stays on while driving and parked and also a noise indicator every once in a while to put the car in park and close the door. also when trying to use the keypad to lock the car from the outside sometimes it won't lock. the door ajar light is inconsistent, sometimes it will stay on, other times it will turn off. i took my car to the dealership to find out what was wrong. after a $200 fee to just look at the vehicle they said it is the door latch which is a common defect and will coast upward of $500 with labor and parts to fix. after doing research to try and see if i could repair it myself i found i was not alone in having this issue and was encouraged to file a complain on this site.
The door ajar sensor stays on. the doors won"t lock and i don't know if the door is really closed. this happens when the vehicle is stationery or in motion.
The door ajar sensing mechanism fails chronically, resulting in ongoing alarms, which is distracting the driver, and an a learned disregard to the door position.
Door latch does not fully shut drivers side. lights and door ajar remain on. even if off during driving the door ajar light may come on suddenly after turning corners. online comments suggest latch sensor arm continues to touch door latch when closed or door latch does not fully engage.
In 2015 we took our edge in to the shop because the door ajar indicator would still be on when the door was closed. this would not allow the doors to lock going down the road and would have an annoying message telling me to shift to park as i came up to a red light. they said that they could clean it and that should fix it but that would only be temporary and that they would probably eventually replace the switch. again this month, july 2016, it has started again. the "shift to park" messages and not being able to lock the door and the interior lights stay on all happening again. from what i have read, even after they replace the switch, this doesn't completely fix the problem and that it will start to occur again after a few months. this needs to be a recall. the dealers are making a few 100 bucks from every person that shows up to get it "repaired". it is going off right now, as i type this, as my wife is driving and i am at work and she called me.
When the door is shut the door ajar light stays on, which then causes the interior light in the car to stay on. i have to open and shut the door multiple times to try and get they door ajar light to shut off so the doors can lock and i can drive. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph, the rear driver's side door opened without being prompted as the door ajar warning indicator illuminated continuously. the contact stated that the 'shift to park' warning message also displayed and the vehicle would not lock due to failure. the contact mentioned that the 'shift to park' warning message illuminated while the vehicle was being operated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000. the vin was unavailable.
The driver side door latch is defective. the door is ajar like stays on when door is fully closed. inside cabin and dome lights stay on which creates a hazard at night. more importantly the doors will not lock with the "door is ajar" signal on. this really concerns me because my wife (whose car it is) can be subject to a potential carjacking or robbery. additionally it poses a threat to my grandchildren because we cannot engage the child lock safety feature. ford told me if would cost $400 just in labor and not including part to repair. to keep my battery from draining i have had to remove the overhead lights. another personal safety issue. this is unacceptable from a major manufacturer. apparently this is not an isolated problem. no one seems to want to correct it. my car only has 42k. what's to be done.
Driver side door ajar sensor stays on while door is closed (in motion, idle and off), resulting in the battery to be drained if left off too long. this has left me needing to get a jump if out and multiple times charge my battery if it sits too long.
The driver side latch and door ajar sensor are defective. the car does not properly register that the door is closed. this forces the door ajar light and sound to repeatedly go off. this also keeps the dome light on when shutting the door thus killing the battery. also, you are not able to lock the doors and this is a safety issue with kids and with items in the car being stolen.
Driver door ajar around 40k plus miles we started getting this issue. even when the door is close it keeps saying "driver door ajar". it won't lock the door because of this. even when you parked and turn off the engine once you try to lock the door it won't. this may cause potential battery damage or worst people can just simply open your door when you are in a stop while on the road. apparently i am not the only one. this issue is very common, try youtube and search for ford door ajar. a lot of people are getting this issue but still no recall.
My car, ford edge 2013 has a problem with the driver door sensor which shows that the door is not closed causing the alarm bell to stay on, the interior lights won't turn off, had to have a jump start. took to ford dealer and was charged for repair. quite expensive for me to pay for what ford should be paying for. i understand that are quite a large number of owners with the same problem. also smell exhaust fumes when shutting shutting off the engine as i get out of the car. coming from engine compartment. understand this is also a problem for other owners. these factors together should be reason for the nhtsa to get involved and force a recall to review our groups problems. i paid $229.00 to clean contacts. new parts much more expensive. help us with this.

Driver door ajar always on, sometimes doors want lock with door ajar, makes car unsafe inside lights stay on, unsafe. engine light on, has came on twice while driving on highway, first code check evap emission system.
The switch that controls the circuit that detects if the driver door is closed or not is defective. an internet search shows this is a common issue on these vehicles. it is a safety issue in that the doors will unlock (including the rear doors) automatically while the vehicle is in motion. also, due to the vehicle believing the door is open, it will drain the battery and leave the car unable to start after parking. this happens while the vehicle is stationary, or when moving, and will even fail while driving even after closing the door many times to ensure the switch ends up in the right condition. at times, it takes 30 or more open close cycles for the switch to operate correctly, but will sometimes "open" again while driving down the road.
Ford edge latch door ajar dome lights stay on

Driver's door "ajar" alarm is on continuously, even when door is fully closed. alarm notification and chime comes on every time care starts moving forward. notification states to put car in park. internet searches reveal this to be a common problem with the ford edge.
Door ajar lamp stays on, drains battery. comes on while driving, forces pull overs on freeways to get the interior lights to go off.
During acceleration a strong exhaust odor enters the passenger compartment. the ford service at the dealer stated that ford has issued a bulletin stating that the body seams in back near the rear bumper need to be resealed, vents replaced and a fuser used to seal the body. this seems to me to be a safety issue - allowing dangerous exhaust fumes to enter the passenger compartment. ford refuses to correct this at their expense although it seems to be a design flaw that creates a safety issue.
My door ajar alarm stays on even after the door is close securely. got fix last year and it had again. the doors will not lock while i am driving. this is a safety issue on all the ford vehicles apparently. please recall this error.

"door ajar" error would prevent the doors from being locked via remote or lock button in the car.
