BODY 203

Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2013 Ford Edge

Drivers door latch does not lock due to a malfunction in the latch module. this occurs while in motion with the 'drivers door ajar" warning coming up on the dash.

This is my second time reporting non-working door lock systems. has been repaired but continues to not work. what can be done

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the dashboard exhibited fractures around the passenger side air bag area, which caused the passenger side air bag to be exposed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. a local unknown dealer was contacted. the dashboard was not replaced. the failure mileage was 68,000.

My driver side door latch seems to be failing. my door ajar light comes one when the door is closed. i'm not sure if it actually is or not. it has yet to open on its on, but upon some research it appears this could happen. when the driver side door says its ajar the doors won't lock. i've had to open and close my door a dozen times just to get the interior lights to shut off. this happens on a daily basis. i've also had the good fortune of getting in the car and the door ajar light doesn't come on. then i put the car in drive, start my way down the road only for the door ajar light to come on and the interior lights come on as well. more often than not though, the door ajar light comes on immediately. again, i'm not sure if it's sensor, or if the door latch is malfunctioning. i'm not sure if the door is even latched when i'm driving. i've looked online and this seems to be a costly issue to repair. ford seems to have done a recall on certain makes except the edge.

Complaint--not sure drivers door is securlely latched while driving. driver door warning light will not go out when door is closed. other times warning light will come on while vehicle is being driven. another warning light saying "shift to park" comes on while door ajar light comes on. tsb 150013 done by dealer 7/23/2015 @ 31,833 miles. this tsb is to clean the switch contacts but do not replace switch. . current mileage 3/7/2017 53,000 miles. i was told by dealer that latch assembly needs to be replaced. contacted ford dealer, i must pay for repair. contacted ford customer service @ 888-270-1055 3/7/2017 was told no help from ford. warranty has expired. cost of repair $150.00 parts $!87.00 labor plus 6% sales tax.

The front, driver side door latch is dysfunctional. the sensor does not correctly read when the door is open and closed. it will not read when the door is closed, so the interior lights stay on. plus, the door agar switch dings. it is very difficult driving during the nighttime when the interior lights will not go off because of this dysfunctional sensor. plus, the doors will not lock because the sensor reads incorrectly. i recently attempted to lock my doors because i was at a stop-light in a rough party of town, but they would not lock because the sensor reads my driver's door as "open." i will not purchase another ford because of this issue.

The passenger door ajar light up sometimes when the door is closed securely. this leaves me uncertain if i have a hazardous condition or not. concerned about ignoring the safety warning light when i have a real door problem. creates an unsafe condition that must be physically checked each occurrence.

Starting in february 2017, the 'driver door ajar' warning indicator would not turn off when the driver door was closed. the vehicle had about 90,000miles. none of the three passenger doors or the tailgate have this same issue. at first the problem was intermittent. i tried to lubricate the latch with silicon spray and the problem would go away for a week, then come back. it progressively got worse until june of 2017, when the problem would not go away at all. slamming the door shut repeatedly did not work, the driver door ajar warning stayed on. because of this issue, it's hard to tell if the door is really closed or not. if the door is not latched properly, it would be a severe safety concern. in addition, the doors no longer lock, neither automatically nor using the lock switch which also presents a safety concern. another result of this problem is the interior lights do not go out when the car is off and the door closed which has drained the battery on several occasions. please look into this issue as a major safety concern, especially in view of the doors not locking when the vehicle is in motion and the uncertainty as to whether or not the door is actually closed.

Driver side door ajar light will not go off even after shutting the door numerous of times. this causes the inside light to stay on draining the battery as well as the door ajar alarm to keep going off every 3 minutes.

The door latch sensor stays on even with the door closed and latched. while driving the car keeps telling you to stop and put the car in park because the door is not latched. when the car is off the lights stay on drainning the battery because it still does not sense the door is closed.

When driving vehicle the door ajar warning comes on. this happens all of the time. when parked the dome light comes on and runs the battery down.

On three separate occasions in the last three months the door ajar sensor has malfunctioned on the ford edge. these issues surfaced twice with the driver's door and once with the rear driver's passenger door. despite being closed, the sensor activates to show that the door is ajar. the lights on the vehicle stay on, the alarm sounds. the repair costs for this problem are around $500 per incident. a quick search of the internet finds this to be a reoccurring problem for many ford edge owners but no one at ford or the government will help address the problem. i'm writing for you to investigate this issue.

Drivers side "door open" dash indicator is active when the door is closed, both in park and while driving. it has occasionally come on during driving, then gone off again. interior lights stay on when car is off, leading to a drain on the battery and i eventually had to replace the battery. the only way to occasionally make the light go off is to repeatedly open and then slam the door closed. i also feel the anti theft features and overall locking may be compromised as i hear the horn "double beep" when using the remote control key fob lock, indicating that a door is still "open".

Door ajar warning lights up, dome lights remain on and doors will not automatically lock even when door is shut. warning does not go off so you have to drive with the dome light on for a while and when you park your car these stay on and it can drain your battery stranding you. this is an ongoing everyday problem.

Opening/closing driver side door; driver door ajar light stays on when door is closed which leaves on interior lights after exiting the vehicle. it has started to occur more often within the last month, approx 85,000 miles. when the driver ajar light is on my door locks will not engage/initiate during driving like they should normally do. contacted used car dealer and they suggest the charge to fix can range from 195.00-450.00, depending on the issue, sensor replacement etc..... *tr

Rear passenger door lock failing. lock shows door ajar and will not lock.

The driver door ajar switch/alarm remains on when the drivers door is firmly closed when stationary and when in motion. this causes the dome light to remain on which makes it hard to see, dangerous, to drive at night. the doors will not lock when driving which can be unsafe. this condition is constant on any type of street or any parking situation. my edge had around 31,000 miles when this problem started.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while stationary, the vehicle displayed "door ajar" when the driver's door was already closed. the contact had to open and close the door several times before the "door ajar" warning went off. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 54,000. .....updated 03/08/17 *bf *cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. when the driver side door was closed, the "door ajar" indicator illuminated and a bell-like alarm sounded on the instrument panel. the contact also stated that the doors remained unlocked. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the door switch was stuck and that the door switch assembly needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 19,000.

When driver side door is shut, the inside lights stay on and the door ajar warning light stays on. door does not lock and door chime continues making it unknown if door is truly shut and secured when driving down the road. while driving the door ajar light has come on, cabin light turns on causing dangerous situation at night. *tr

Door ajar light on with door closed.interior lights stay on and doors will not lock.sometimes have to close door 10 -12 times before it registers that it is closed. i drive to work at night and interoir lights are distacting and make it harder to see.

The driver door ajar light stays on due to a defective door latch. this also causes the vehicle lights to stay on and the shift to park light to stay on...while driving the vehicle. *tr

Door ajar notification will not go off even though the door is completely shut. this keeps the over head dome lights from going off as well as the doors from locking. it's dangerous at night because it's hard to see to back up when the dome lights are on. it makes visibility very low. it's also not safe that the doors do not lock.

Door ajar warning light causes door to not lock and pop open while in motion. interior and puddle lights stay on while driving causing hazard by not being able to see. battery goes dead. *tr

The driver door ajar light is consistently on when parked it causes the interior light to remain on and drain the battery. when driving it will constantly beeps telling to you put the vehicle in park and won't let you lock the doors. at first it was a rare occasion that the door ajar light would come on but now it's almost everytime i get in the vehicle. *tr

Both front left and rear left door sensors show that the doors are open although its fully closed. therefore the cabin lights stay on and the doors cannot be locked. my 2.5 year old daughter opened the door while i was driving although the doors were supposed to locked. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the front driver side door ajar and the 'place the vehicle in park' warning lights illuminated. the contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently and caused the doors to not be able to lock. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 38,000.

Driver door ajar light remains on when all doors are closed and locked. dome and exterior side mirror lights stay lite due to this. car is in park and if you shift into drive when the door ajar light is on then the car tells you to shift into park and the interior light stay on. this started the week on dec 19, 2016 and has been happening continuously through out the week and weekend. car has been taken to ford today 12/28/2016 and of course they're arguing its not a service bulletin which means i will probably end up paying the deductible on my extended warranty to get it fixed when this is clearly a ford issue.

Front driver's side door ajar. the front door mechanism will not lock. there is a constant warning chime and the interior lights stay on even when the door is shut. the warning is " driver door ajar".

Drivers door latch failed again. was replaced under ford original warranty with camelback ford but has failed four months later and not under warranty. dealer camelback ford has no interest and repairing without paying $642.00 to repair. i guess no warranty on their work.

The driver door ajar light will randomly come on lighting up the interior of the car. or it wont go off when entering the vehicle. this is an ongoing problem

Drivers side door says it is ajar, but it's not ajar.

Door ajar warning light will not go off when drivers door is completely shut. this causes dome lights to stay on until car is moving causing a visibility problem. doors will not lock even when locked manually doors will unlock by itself while car is in motion causing a child in back seat to open a door while the car is moving and possibly falling from car.

While driving on the city street, the driver door ajar warning is displayed on the digital instrument panel, along with instructions to shift the vehicle into park and the dome lights being turned on. opening and closing the door will make the warning go away for a few minutes, but it invariably returns before much time passes. this happens while the vehicle is stationary as well. *tr

Driver door latch; door won't lock or stay locked intermittently; door ajar light comes on when the door is closed. when the intermittent problem occurs, the doors unlock, the dome light comes on, which makes it difficult to see while driving at night or early morning. the battery is draining-the door ajar light causes the interior lights to come on when the vehicle is parked. it will not lock from outside the vehicle intermittently. this started earlier this month an is becoming more frequent. this needs to be addressed now! from my research, this is a long standing issue with ford products. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while the vehicle was stationary, the "door ajar" indicator remained illuminated while all of the doors were closed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 89,000. the vin was not available.

Driver side door keeps alarming that it is not closed even if door is closed. i feel this is a safety issue because it won't lock the vehicle, the interior lights remain on while driving as well as the alarm which distracts the driver.

Door ajar light comes on when all doors are closed while driving, after exiting the vehicle. it appears to be related to the driver's door. i have to close the door several times and very hard. in fact, i have to slam it so hard i fear i may break the window. it is a tremendous safety issue. all the doors will unlock while driving because the sensor is not registering. this is my second time dealing with this matter. the first time it was covered under warranty...ugh! *tr

Door ajar warning lights stays on with door shut.

Door ajar switch on drivers door malfunction. indicates door ajar at all times, thus doors do not lock while driving, interior lights remain on, dash tell-tail light and warning signal. unsafe condition exist because of failure of locks for child safety, during vehicle movement. also unable to engage vehicle locks and alarm system due to faulty switch, as vehicle does not recognize the door is closed. *tr

My door ajar light started coming last week and won't go off. i an positive the all doors are closed. it is very disruptive while driving, when the vehicle slows at signal lights, in intersections or in traffic the alarm comes on. also, i was in a completely dark parking lot with people and cars moving around and the interior lights wouldn't go off. i could not see outside because of the interior lights. the door locks will not function in this state either. someone could have easily gotten into the vehicle with me. help!

Takata recall - door ajar light on dash. front and rear drivers side

Driver door ajar alarm went off last week while i was driving and will not stop. this is causing me to get a constant warning while i'm driving that my driver door is ajar and to put my car in park. it also makes my interior lights stay on when my car is turned off (which is killing my new battery) and my doors will not lock while driving, causing a safety issue. no amount of slamming the door shut or cleaning of the door latch corrects the problem. i am having to disconnect my battery in order to not drain my new battery down from the interior lights staying on.

Door latch on driver side door broke

Drivers door ajar light stays on while driving , and the lights stay on 10 mins after the car is turned off . *tr

Door latch senser is malfunctioning. with it doing this the doors will not lock while operating the car. lights stay on when not in use. and alarm will go off when ever it decides to while not in use. due to car sensing the door is ajar. this makes the car available to be plundered by burglary. while it drains the battery. the lights will go off eventually. but driver door ( the one causing issues) will not respond keyfob. when i use set of keys number 2 ( my set) it won't respond to them till i lock car and remote start sitting inside the automobile. every time you stop the car will sound an alarm and tell you to shift into park and close door, everytime!! even when you physically lock doors the car will unlock them. (posably so we can get car jacked) it is a design flaw. replacing the mechanism isn't the whole answer. i have friends who have done that only to have the same issue pop up in several months. then they are out about $600. please deal with this it is on several mak s and models of ford. i like the company, but am getting tired of the run around. it started in 11/01/16 to current. sad part is it use up come and go. not anymore.

Ford edge 2013 problem with sensor or other causing driver door alarm to activate after door is shut. dome lights stay on; door is completely shut but message states that "driver door is ajar". message and alarm sometimes comes on when driving. sometimes takes several tries repeatedly shutting door to get alarm and lights to turn off. this should be a recall. problem has occurred several times in the past week. *tr

The driver door ajar light comes on and stays on. this causes the interior lights to stay on and the battery to drain. also the doors will not lock/stay locked. this happens when initially starting the vehicle and has happened while driving. i believe the cause of the problem to be either in the sensor or the door latch itself. at first it seemed to happen at random, but now seems to be occurring more often. this has been occurring for a few weeks. will be taking it to be repaired in a few days.

The drivers side door ajar alarm activates when the door is not open. this causes interior light to remain on for at least 10 minutes before shutoff. when the car is in motion, then comes to a stop say, at an intersection, an alarm sounds again and requests that you shift to park. i hit the ok button on the steering wheel, but the process repeats. i have sometimes been able to stop the alarms by wiggling the wiring harness at the door hinge, but this may be coincidental. this happens when the car is moving, and when still. the auto lock will also not engage during the alarm, and even when manually activating it won't engage. i never know if this is a true alarm or not. i assume always it is false. this is a dangerous assumption. repeated door slamming or normal closing does not stop the alarm. this happens every day and has been for several months. i see the issue on car complaint sites, there should be a recall before someone falls from a moving vehicle thinking the alarm was false when it was not. *tr

My driver side door flew open while i was turning almost causing an accident. as mentioned in many other complaints, i too have the issue of the driver side light displaying "ajar". because of this almost accident, i now open and close the door as many times as it takes to make sure the latch is close and the light is off. my life matters.
