Tuesday night 1/22/2019, my daughter described that her car had lost all power while she was driving down a small mostly deserted street in our town when she braked and attempted to turn. she had an extremely difficult time braking and turning the car to get off of the roadway. so, that same evening, i decided to see if it happened to me. it was noted that she had just over a quarter tank of gas so i thought maybe her gas gauge was wrong so i filled the car. we drove around 6 miles when it did happen to me as i braked and attempted to make a left hand turn in front of oncoming traffic. fortunately, the vehicles headed my way were quite a bit down the street, and i allowed myself ample time to get across were this to happen. however, this was at night when that street isn't busy. we live off of this street so avoiding during the day isn't an option. during the day when traffic is busy and constant, there would be no way to allow that much time to get across safely. in the months leading up to these power failures, there were at least three instances where we were in a drive thru or stopped at a stoplight where power would be lost, but never when the car was actually in motion as happened twice on 1/22/2019. i found a forum where this has been reported many times not only to ford, but to the nhtsa and nothing by way of a recall has been called for this problem and it appears that someone will be killed prior to something being done. i've read that the throttle body seems to be the issue here and that ford has denied a problem saying they've never heard of this problem when people take these cars to the dealerships. the evidence is all over the internet where people describe the exact same problem. this car will only be driven as needed and absolutely is not allowed onto the highway. please help resolve this known problem before someone is killed.
Stalls and won't accelerate while going down the road. just idles real rough. can only coast to a stop. can't steer. wrench comes on the display. everything i have read said it is probably the throttle body. has less than 40,000 miles.
The aws light stays on and says the driver stability controls are not working properly. took it to a ford dealership for servicing, charged 800 plus and the issue is still occurring. they claim it's a sensor issue but it's still happening! if i turn left or right the warning light comes on, if it's wet or dry the light comes on and when breaking the suv slides. will never purchase another ford again. not sure of the actual date the issue started happening.
Driving to work about ten miles of highway, my car started running rough and shaking. i was able to coast into a parking lot then my heater stopped working a warning light came on "engine coolant temp" then it died completely in a matter of seconds, i saw some smoke under the hood so i called for help. there was no other warning whatsoever! the mechanic told us that the water pump had gone out and caused the engine to over heat. it shot coolant into the engine and it was totaled. again there was absolutely no warning at all. no sensors no anything. i maintain my vehicle with regular oil changes etc. and if there had been any warning light i would have taken it to my mechanic immediately.
This is the second report i have made about this issue. the first was on/about set. 26, 2015. when i was driving, the car in motion, the power train malfunction indicator (a wrench) comes on, the car loses all power, goes down to perhaps 2 miles per hour, and then stops. it feels as though the power steering also goes out. when the car stops, it shakes and jerks. you cannot accelerate. i turn the motor off and then on, "resetting" the indicator (per the ford dealership). and the issue stops. it has happened again today, oct. 23rd. twice (in the morning and again this afternoon). i called sam galloway ford in fort myers, fl and was told to bring it in on nov. 4th. again, today is oct. 23. i was told, by danielle (service advisor), that "since it is not happening all the time it was fine to wait" until nov. 4, 2015. i am afraid to drive this car this is a safety issue for me, anyone i have in the car, and other drivers. are you going to wait until someone gets killed because of this issue? i am on busy roads when this happens. why don't you do something????
On 9/9 i left orange beach al to drive home to jonesboro ar with my 2011 ford edge - it quit on me at least 45 times. i went to 2 ford dealers, one mechanic on the road. first ford dealer had no clue how to fix it and told me to leave 3 or 4 days. next ford dealer wanted 1500.00 4 hours and maybe more. so i kept driving since part costs 184.00. when driving the car just shuts off. no power steering, now brakes no nothing. if i could i got to the side of the road and turned on my flashers. i waited a few minutes and cranked it back up. several times on the one lane road headed into hattiesburg i almost got rear ended by 18 wheelers and no side area to pull over - my car just quit - stopped and i stopped. i got to jackson 6 lane road 5:00 p.m rush hour and my car quit 6 times and i almost got hit there several times. my wrench icon comes on, my oil light came on, my engine light is on now also. the car abruptly stops - this is very dangerous - my husband got a car hauler and headed toward me and met me out of jackson. once, it stopped to abruptly that my dogs hit the dashboard in the front seat and were so scared. they were in the backseat. i have grandchildren that ride with me - so can you imagine the issues that could happen when this car just shuts off. this is a severe problem that ford needs to address this and so does safercar.gov. i called ford today and they all but laughed at me and said i needed to get a new throttle body installed and pay for it that the 2011 ford edge was not included in the consumer satisfaction program 13n03 that i found on a website. this is a very dangerous problem that ford needs to address immediately. i could have died yesterday trying to get home - did ford care no - they will when someone dies.
We have had a problem with our ford edge going into limp mode while driving. luckily it has been at low speeds so we were able to pull over and turn off vehicle. il when this problem happens, it idles very roughly and it like it loses its mind. you cannot accelerate and a wrench pops up on the dash. when you turn off vehicle and turn it back on, it's fine. *tr

I was riding down the street at a normal speed, all of a sudden i heard a loud sound. the car started driving really funny. i pulled over on a side street to see if i hit something,. nothing was in the road, i then looked at the car.this is when i noticed my tires on my passengers side had blown out. i had 2 flat tires. i don't know what happened. i only had the car for 2 months. the tread on the tire was still good, the road was ok, a little rough but i didn't see any need for 2 flats. the steering also makes a loud noise when i turn it to the right and to the left. i had it looked at but of course the dealer says nothing is wrong. its not making a loud noise for nothing. *tr
When driving my ford edge down the highway, it suddenly loses power and have to pull off road. has happened 3x so took to dealership and they want $900 to fix! really can't believe a throttle body goes out after 3 years. *tr
I was driving on the highway with my 3 kids and my wife and as i got off the exit i noticed the car wasn't braking, so as i got to the first stop left i decided to turn left and see if i could fix the problem. as i was turning the shearing wheel locked up, brakes didn't brake then the car started to shake. i almost hit on coming traffic at 40 mil per hour. as soon as the car bypassed on coming traffic a had to restart my car and it was fine. as soon as i got home, it happened again. i was about 2ft from hitting my garage door. *tr

This is now the seventh time i've lost all power while driving. the car completely shuts down, steering becomes uncontrollable and the oil pressure light comes on. i've taken to the dealership and i'm being told the car has no codes of what happened and they can't repair. i'm not sure how a computer doesn't register a low oil pressure light or how it's not hard coded somewhere in the computer system that the car just cut out at 35mph to 60 mph i have no warning that this is about to happen, i lost my steering, car shuts down, brakes do not work. ford has no idea on how to fix this. i pull over and wait a few minutes crank up and go, sometimes it does it 5 to 6 times in a row before i can get to the dealer. also, my driver's side door always keeps the door ajar light on, ford has no clue how to fix this either- the interior lights stays on the whole time also. i have taken it in several times for this also and they can't fix it. i bought this car used and it was great for one year and now it has many problems which i believe it did when i bought it. i now put 93 octane in it just to see if that helps, i have put engine cleaner in it, had all the filters changed every 3 months, nothing seems to work. i do have grandchildren and worry that an accident could happen due to this malfunction. how do i go about filing against ford for the lemon law.
Vehicle failed annual safety inspection at approximately 40k miles. dealer explained that front tie rod ends had failed and needed replacement. made an appointment for service. upon returning for service on the scheduled date at approximately 45k miles, dealer discovered leak in front rack and pinion assembly and explained entire front rack and pinion assembly needs replacement. as of this report, the vehicle is still with the local dealership's service department. the part to be replaced is on back-order. after quick internet search, discovered instances of same problem in steering & suspension with other 2011 ford edge and 2011 lincoln mdx awd vehicles. this is a safety issue in addition to being extremely costly in a relatively new vehicle for myself and other vehicle owners. this should be investigated. thanks for your time. *tr
After starting the vehicle, the power steering pump was making a squealing noise and the steering was sluggish. after about 15 minutes, the squealing noise stop and the steering felt normal. the same thing happens every time during a cold start. *tr
In december of 2013 i noticed the steering on my ford edge was acting up and occasionally the power steering would go away for a short period time. this issue almost caused a couple accidents because the car would not react when turned. the dealership added more power steering fluid and the issue went away for a little while but would still sometimes show the same signs of being hard to steer. a few months later a different ford dealer found a small power steering fluid leak and repaired a hose under warranty, but that did not completely solve the problem. last time into the dealer for an oil change just past warranty, the same dealer found a technical service bulletin to replace the power steering pump, but now they want us to pay the full cost of the repair since the vehicle is out of warranty. we tried to talk to the dealership and ford customer service but they would not cover the issue under warranty even though the issue was first brought up while the vehicle was still under warranty. i feel this is a major safety issue and should be subject to a recall not to mention the ford should stand behind their product and fix an issue that was brought to their attention before the warranty was up. *tr

The power steering does not work properly at low speeds. this is identfied in ford's tsb 10-21-1 steering the vehicle is very difficult. i'm concerned that the ability to properly control the vehicle at low or high speeds may become a problem. this is a major safety concern. by issuing a tsb, i believe ford is acknowledging that there is a potential safety problem with the power steering system - a major component of vehicle safety. the advancetrac (stability/anti-rollover system) appears to have failed indicated by the warning lights on the dash. intermittently, the warning light turns on and then off while driving or parked with engine idling. based on numerous occasions, i believe there is a fault in the stability system. ford technicians cannot replicate the problem. many other owners appear to be having the same issue with the ford edge and f-150 trucks among other ford vehicles. the fuel system displays a warning that the fuel inlet requires checking due to a vapor leak. ford replaced a traditional fuel cap assembly with a capless system which appears to not seal fully or allows debris to keep the system from remaining fully sealed. there appears to be many other owners who experience this same warning light with a malfunction indicator light illuminated that cannot be turned off. if fuel vapor is leaking, there is risk of vehicle fire or explosion. *js
Care started making a whirring noise that was intermittent, but not a normal noise. took in for service, found a leak in power steering. two months later (5/9/12) trying to back out of a parking space the power steering pump quit, couldn't turn the wheel and lots of steam/smoke came out from under the car. replaced power steering pump under warranty (ext. warranty was purchased at time of sale). november 12, 2014 took the car back in for whirring noise, mostly noticeable while turning left and only when it was cold outside. (temps below 45). power steering pump was bad again. replaced pump/belt for $853.45. drove to florida for thanksgiving no problems came home to cold weather and the whirring noise was back. this time it didn't stop for 20-30 minutes when car was sufficiently warm. noise made while going forward/backwards/turning. parked car for the weekend friday night, sunday night went to move it and steering didn't work. checked fluid reservoir almost empty. took back to dealership, had to wait 48 hrs for them to find the o-ring and hose was bad, another $500. o-ring and hose should have been replaced with power steering pump, but were not part of the package. how do i know that the new pump didn't suffer damage from being so low on fluid? there was 3000 miles driven between new pump and hose issue. *tr
When faced with a situation that requires brisk accelleration, ie., passing, the car exhibits a strong tendency to steer to the right, torque steer. this has occured at a level that causes the driver to immediately take his foot off the gas pedal causing a reversal of the direction the car wants to go, right to left, and jeopardizes the completion of the passing move. as this occurs with the vehicle in the opposite lane, oncoming traffic, the car's occupants contined safety comes into question. *tr
During acceleration, vehicle pulls to the right with steering wheel turn to the right. pulling happens regardless of accelerating from stop or moving. the harder the acceleration, the harder the pull. during coasting and braking, vehicle travels straight. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving approximately between 10-20 mph, the contact attempted to make a right turn and the steering wheel locked without warning. the vehicle was driven onto the side of the road and the engine shut off. upon restarting, the vehicle, the steering wheel functioned normally. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the ptu assembly was replaced. the similar failure recurred after the vehicle was repaired. the contact planned to take the vehicle back to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and recommended that the failure be diagnosed. the failure mileage was approximately 9,000.
My vehicle is a ford edge 2011. i just received this fleet vehicle in december. recently (february) noticed the alignment was drastically off. in order to go straight, the wheel was cranked all the way to the left. i took it into firestone redondo beach to get checked for alignment when they informed me that there was no way a pot hole or bump changed the alignment by that much. they stated that the jam nut on the left side tie rod was loose. to fix this, this was tightened and alignment toe set. however, this is alarming considering that this was a manufacturing issue. as stated by the technician, it was clear that the rod was set but not actually tightened. this could have led to a significant accident with loss of steering had i not gotten it fixed in time. this was definitely a manufacturing defect and a scary one for lack of quality checks. *tr
I purchased a 2011 ford edge limited. within 2 weeks i noticed the car was veering to the right. i took the car into the dealership and a 4 wheel alignment was performed. i had to take the car back within a few days as the car was still pulling to the right. a 2nd alignment was performed. a few days later i took it back again as the car was still veering to the right. this time the service manager came to me and said i found the fix on the ford inner company memo. he then performed a sub frame adjustment. the car still veers to the right and i took it in once again and a 3rd wheel alignment was performed. after each wheel alignment i was informed an adjustment was made, something was "out of whack" i even took a salesman for a test drive in a different edge car from the lot and the car veered to the right. i have spoken to the service advisor and she has mentioned that other edge owners have brought their car in for the same problem as well as lincoln customers. there are also severe problems with the ford my touch sync system. i have taken my car in 3 different times for updates. i have been told that these updates will not fix the problems and that there are at least 6-10 more updates needed to hopefully fix all the problems. i believe the car pulling to the right is a severe safety issue. *tr

2011 ford edge. from the time that i took possession of this new vehicle, it has drifted or pulled to the right. it will move about 5 feet in a matter of 50 to 75 feet in moving direction. the dealer ship service manager states , it is in specification". in 560 years of traveling in my work and with 28 different vehicles, i have never had this situation that could not be corrected.. another statement by the service manager was that another auto line owned by ford motor company and their engineers helped to design and engineer the all wheel drive system of this vehicle, the 2011 ford edge. i have hqd this vehicle on two different trips on interstate highways, a good flat surface and when you take your hands slightly off the steering wheel, the drifting starts immediately. i absolutely believe this is a fault in this car and can be corrected, even if it requires a recall. when i had my car in the dealer service department and the service manager drove this vehicle, he came back to the dealership, took another brand new ford edge off of the lot and we rode in it and it did the same thing, drifting or pulling to the right, therefore the reason i believe for his statement that the car was in its "tolerance". the vehicle purchased at ken wilson ford, dealership, in canton, north carolina. *tr
Vehicle purchased new, driven 890 miles in first trip. vehicle has dramatic pull to the right. constant left steering input for vehicle to remain on roadway. dealer adjusted alignment , but was not able to correct. dealer and ford representative indicate that that is the limit of the design and ford is unable to correct the pull. complete attention and grip on the steering wheel with constant left input is very tiring and potentially deadly as a near miss of a parked car on an i-20 at night was experienced. just a slight inattention of the left input caused the car to drift out of the travel lane and onto the edge of the shoulder. this will ultimately cause someone to lose their life or be injured. as speed increases to highway speeds the reaction time to make constant corrections is reduced. numerous instances of the right pull have been documented to ford dealers from 2007. ford had issued a tsb in 2008 but this did not fix or correct the design deficiency. no caster adjustments are provided in the front wheel drive axle, only toe adjustments. improper toe adjustments can be achieved but significant tire wear is induced. this toe adjustment has to be readjusted to an out of tolerance condition every time a tire set is changed.
