The smell of gasoline vapors were detected when ever the vehicle was parked in the garage. we took the vehicle to the ford dealer ship and it was determined by a ford technician that the fuel tank is leaking. the fuel tank is a two piece steel design that is welded together at the seem. the welded joint is corroding and caused the leaking. the vehicle has never been in a accident nor has the fuel tank had any maintenance conducted on it. this fuel tank was an oem part and installed by the oem only. ford has indicated they do not have any replacement parts available, and do not have a supplier to manufacture replacement fuel tanks. updated 11/05/14

2007 ford edge has a gas tank leak problem. notice a strong gas smell around vehicle and took it to a ford dealer. mechanic founded gas leaking from the gas tank (unsafe to drive, potential fire hazard). *tr
I bought this 2007 ford edge new and it has been kept in a garage the entire time i have owned it. i noticed a smell of gasoline while it was in the garage and took it to have it looked at. we found a 2 inch rusted hole in the top of the gas tank. ford claims no other similar problems have been reported and has refused to do anything about it. although i have found numerous forums from people that have the same problem. i believe this to be a manufacture defect and a potential fire hazard. *tr
I cant put in the part of the ford edge 2007 where it says affected part the part that was affected was the gas tank i have pictures to show how it rusted everytime i would fill the tank the smell of gas was bad this went on for about 1 month finding out that there was a leak and checking on the web site there were several others who had the same issue this was a dangerous situation with people smoking and throwing out their butts one spark and i and my daughter would not be here today im hoping that u will do a recall on this car. *tr

After driving the vehicle for approximately 80 miles one saturday morning, my wife parked in the garage as usual. i entered the garage after the car sat for about an hour and detected the smell of gasoline. proceeded to inspect the vehicle and determined that the smell was coming from engine compartment. i continued to investigate the source and eventually found what appeared to be fuel seeping from the fuel rail, also known as the fuel supply manifold. i concluded that the fuel was leaking in the area of the test port which is connected to the rail. i could tell that fuel was leaking at the point where the test port is connected to the rail. i had the vehicle towed to a ford dealer, and i was told that the fuel rail port was not repairable and a new fuel rail was required. this was a dangerous situation as gasoline could have leaked out onto very hot engine parts and potentially cause a fire. *tr

For a few weeks there was a strong gas smell all around the ford edge. brought it in to be looked at. they were stumped, the gas tank was not leaking, there was no damage to it nor any rust of any kind yet they also could smell the gas. after time, they found that gas was seeping through the seams of the tank. called multiple ford dealerships and they said they have been seeing quite a bit of this on edges and have repaired 4 within the past month in our area. they informed us how extremely dangerous it was to continue driving the car, if we were in an accident or if anyone threw a lit cigarette, the car could explode. very unsafe. we called ford because we saw many recalls on newer models for the same thing. they denied the claim for the 07 model. we got it repaired for $1700 at a ford dealership. they are not offering a reimbursement for a malfunctioning part and a very dangerous situation. *tr
A strong odor of gasoline was detected around the vehicle. mechanic investigated. gas tank had rusted through. gasoline was leaking. according to different blogs, this is an issue that many other owners have had with 2007 ford edge. replacement of tank is outrageously expensive. ford does not have a recall nor a bulletin on the problem and give not more than an apology for the inconvenience. *tr
Gas tank seal corroded. mechanic was inspecting car when he found that besides the transmission transfer case needed to be replaced, the gas tank was leaking gas. it appears the seal is corroded. i was told that the new tank was approximately 1500. (just the part) and about 600. in labor. i feel that this should be repaired free of charge by ford, this should not happen on a vehicle that is only 6 years old. i can only put about 5 gallons of gas in, not to exceed just under the half tank mark. also, cannot park car on anything but a level surface. *tr
Vehicle filled with fuel and parked in garage, noticed fuel smell, found fuel leaking on ground, inspected by ford technician, found fuel tank leaking at left rear corner of fuel tank. *tr
Strong fuel odor present inside and outside of the vehicle. after fueling noticed a steady drip from fuel tank. brought vehicle to private mechanic and was told fuel tank needed to be replaced as it showed evidence of corrosion on the top of the tank. ford has been notified and will not assist with repair nor will they admit it is a design defect or acknowledge other complaints for faulty fuel tanks. it is not normal for a fuel tank to rot on a 6 year old vehicle.
I have been smelling a slight fuel odor, looked at vehicle but could not trace down location of smell. odor would come and go, this has been a problem for a few months. wife left for work and there was a strong odor of gas, when she backed out of garage there was a puddle of gas about the size of 1 foot by 2 foot on the floor. when she returned home that night i noticed a steady drip of fuel dripping on the ground. i located the leak coming from the seam of the fuel tank, she had filled up the day before, and now the tank was wet with fuel. this vehicle is only 6 years old and should not have a problem like this. i have owned many vehicles over the years and never have had a fuel tank issue like this, so i believe this is a major defect of the tank and should be looked into. my edge is parked in a attached garage where my electrical room, furnace, and water heater is located in the same lower lever. obviously i am parking outside now. my concern is the fire hazard with water heater ignition source to my house and vehicle. this issue needs to be addressed by ford, i know that i am not the only person having this problem. hopefully a recall can be issued to correct this issue. *tr
I was just driving down the road and heard a loud noise and days later started smelling gas and looked underneath the vehicle only to discover that the gas tank split and started leaking.....contacted ford motor company and they refuse to fix it or recall it. i can't afford to get a new tank that cost $2,300 and ford recalled the 2008 models for this reason but refused to recall the 2007 models....i am very angry because as it is i am getting about 10 mile to the gallon on gas and only able to put about 4 gallons in the tank at a time and drive around every day worrying if i would ever get into an accident god forbid i would maybe blow up because of the leaking gas tank on this vehicle... *tr

Found door seal on 3 door bad, found very light to just primer and clear coat paint on all door jams, some hinges. newest is a safety item. while pumping gas after the first click gas shot out of the filler neck. happened a second time and gas soaked my wife's cloths. then the tank cap light came on. seams like the tank is not venting and as you fill the tank with gasoline air has to escape and pushes out gas with it. dealer not sure what would cause this. dealer is replacing filler neck. dealer has replaced seals and repainted all areas were just primer. i have called ford and they replied with it is not a ford problem it is the dealers responsibility to look the vehicle over and have 30 days to send it back. i have been to the dealer 7 times. i think ford need to take responsibility for this. i have driven 700 miles back and forth for warranty work. this vehicle only has 2700 miles on it and is a little over 2 months old. *tr
