Recently reported STEERING problems on 2006 Dodge Ram 2500

Front end failure and not just once .i have had it fixed 3 times . there is only 53000 miles on the truck .last time the tie rod broke and the truck ended up half way in a 10ft ditch. the last time a whole new steering linkage and steering box was put on. i have replaced all of the ball joints twice. this is a stock from the dealer 2500 hd truck. *tr

Complaint of stiff steering

Driving at highway speeds front steering seems loose and when i hit any bumps i have had "death wobble". a violent shake almost to the point that steering wheel ripped out of my hands. i had brought the truck to a local dealership and was told that nothing was wrong. i finally contacted chrysler and the woman i spoke with said unless the dealership says there is something broken they will not help me. the funny part is they have a complete fix kit to solve a problem they say does not exist that will cost you around 600.00 just for the parts nevermind the dealers absurdly inflated labor charges. you would think when you spend 42,000.00 on a vehicle it should be safe and engineered right the first time and if there is a documented problem as widespread as this it should be rectified. *tr

2006 dodge 4x4 quad cab 2500. today as i turned onto street my tie rod disconnected from the ball and my tire went sideways in the middle of the street. i looked on line and found many others with the same problem. if i was pulling my fifth wheel, which i will be soon, i cannot imagine what the outcome would have been. poor design. when i phoned big o tire in yuma az (928-342-5535) they said this is a common problem. please put pressure on dodge for a recall in order to save lives. they know they have a problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. while driving approximately 60 mph the steering wheel began shaking erratically. the contact slowed down and was able to safely drive to his residence. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians stated the tie rod ends, track bar, pitman arm and damper needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. the approximate failure mileage was 48,445.

Dodge ram 2500 "death wobble". *tr

In early 2010 the left tie rod end sheared off at about 3-5 mph had truck towed to dealer , dealer replaced all tie rod components . on 2/10/12 it sheared off again towed to dealer again we will see what happens now because my extended service contract has expired. *tr

The front end of 2006 dodge ram with 48,000 miles on it goes out of control when you hit a pot hole. the death wobble as it is called on you tube happened twice on a freeway coming home approx. 140 miles had there been other vehicles near there we may have crashed dodge knows there is a problem but wont fix it because they say it is out of warranty but come on 48,000 miles that's a defect not woreout. this pickup is used mostly on paved roads. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge 2500 mega cab 4x4 and today i experienced first hand the famous death wobble at 75 mph. i hit a small pothole and the truck started shaking really bad. i slowed and it stopped. i have owned the truck for almost a year. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500 megacab 4x4. the contact stated that when driving 40 mph and above over a road bump, the steering wheel and instrument panel would shake violently. the vehicle would have to come to a complete stop before the shaking would subside. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but not repaired. the vehicle was repaired by the contact with a redesign upgraded 2009 part. the contact repaired the tie rod assembly, steering damper and a pitman arm. there were no 2006 parts available to repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was contacted who refused to provide any assistance to the contact. the failure mileage was 97,000 the current mileage was 104,000. updated 03/24/11*lj

2006 dodge ram 2500 4 x 4 mega cab death wobble. i've had the front end of my truck shake at speeds over 45 mph and turning left on any surface that has bumps. when you hit a bump the front of the truck shakes, the dash begins to shake and the truck feels like its going to fall apart. after slowing down to less than 15mph you may be lucky to get control. after the sixth time it happeded to me, i was driving on a highway going 55mph, making a left turn over an expansion joint in the highway, the front wheels, steering wheel and dash started to shake violently. my truck slammed of the side rail before i could get control. after calling dodge they told me i'm stuck buying a 2009 tie rod assembly, pitman arm, steering stablizer because they no longer made it for dodge ram 2500 4 x 4 trucks 2003 ' 2008 due to safty reason. (btw the new tie rod assembly is non-greasable / non servicable, so when a tie rod goes out, you get to replace the whole thing again.) i had to obvisouly get an alingment done after everything. all and all i have about 1000.00 bucks that im out and that doesn't include the repairs to the rear quarter panel, thanks dodge!!! :( boooooooo *tr

I was driving on the highway at 50mph going around a slight bend to the right when i experienced the dodge "death wobble." i had to slow down and pull over for it to go away. this is the 3rd time this has happened. all the forums i've checked suggest purchasing after market heavier duty steering components. this doesn't seem reasonable to me considering the cost of the vehicle in the first place. i also go thru ball joints every year and i've never had to change them on any other vehicle i've ever owned. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle began to shutter. the contact also stated that the pin that held the tire in line became fractured when the contact drover over a road bump. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 13v528000(steering) however, the part needed to complete the repair was unavailable. the manufacturer was notified. the vin was not available. the approximate mileage was 120,000.

2006 dodge death wobble, when at speeds above 40mph, hit a bump and front end goes into a violent shake. dodge has a service bulletin about this issue but it cost over $2000.00. there are numerous articles about this situation all over the internet. there needs to be a recall from dodge before someone is killed. *tr

1. dodge ram "death wobble", truck shakes violently when driving and hitting any pot hole or bump. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle drove over a bump in the road and shook violently. the contact referred to the shaking as the death wobble. the contact replaced the tie rod and steering linkage, but none of the repairs remedied the failure. the failure mileage was 160,000.

At 70-75 mph when hitting a bump in the road the front of the truck starts to violently shake and pulls you into the other lane or off the road, it does not quit until you come to a complete stop. *tr

Chrsyler recall n62 / nhtsa 13v-528 should be for all steering linkage, not just the left tie rod. all tie rod ends failed in my truck, not just the left tie rod. i have documentation and receipts for all of the failed parts.

I have a 2006 dodge cummins with 44000 miles on it with the whole front end is now brand new. the problem with these vehicles is when you hit a bump or pot hole from 50 to 70 mph your truck gets a severe shake in the front end and can make you lose control and kill you or other people. also known as the death wobble. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge 2500. the contact was traveling 70 mph when the tie rod fractured from the wheel and the vehicle lost all steering capability. the contact was able to stop the vehicle and was able to move the vehicle off the roadway with assistance. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 10e013000 (steering:gear box:shaft pitman). the vehicle was repaired at the consumers expense. the failure and current mileage was 132,000. updated 01/24/11 *bf the consumer stated he was reimbursed for some of the repairs for the steering linkages. updated 04/18/11

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that the vehicle began to wobble on the front end. he noticed the problem when he hit a bump in the road driving over 70 mph. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that a new tie rod and new control arm needed to be installed. the contact had not spoken with the manufacturer and the vehicle was not repaired at the time of the complaint. the current mileage was approximately 37,200. the failure mileage was approximately 36,500.

2006 dodge ram diesel the infamous "death wobble" my personal experience was at just shy of 12000 miles take truck to the dealer nothing wrong that they can see. if it keeps happening bring it back . approximately 18000 miles still happening cannot find anything wrong with it. i take it back in talk to manager and i tell him that if you hit a bump at 55-60 that the truck violently shakes. they say try wheel bearings. i put 800 in wheel bearings still occurs. i call chrysler and they lead me on that they might fix it but to take in to the dealer for diag. i take it in and they say put a steering stabilizer on it and they wont participate in that so i put and new steering stabilizer on it and now it happens at 40-45 mph i am in the process of calling them back to let them know that the problem still exists and i am going to emphasize to them again that my wife and 2 yr old daughter are in the current driver and passenger of truck. this problem has caused other damage to the truck that they will not also fix. i told them that i don't want anything then a truck that i can drive on the highway or down any road. *tr

While traveling at highway speeds, hitting a small bump / pothole causes violent shaking of the front end. shaking stops only after the vehicle is slowed below 25 mph. keeping control of the vehicle during shaking is very difficult. have taken the vehicle to three different mechanics & dealer with no problems found. *tr

I own an operate a 2006 dodge ram 2500 diesel pick up truck; it has approximately 52000 miles on it. many parts of the front end are worn out and need to be replaced. i have experienced what is referred to as "death wobble" where the front end of the truck shakes and vibrates violently and highway speeds after hitting bumps in the road. this condition causes an uncontrolled state of vehicle operation and is very un-safe. i have spent a lot of money replacing poorly designed front end components of this truck and there are still more that need replacement. it has bad track bar bushings, bad tie rod ends, bad ball joints, and had a bad steering box replaced under warranty. dodge is aware of these problems and is turning their back on it by not issuing a recall. they have already changed the designs and updated the steering linkages on 2008 and newer dodge trucks. all of the components on the front end that are subject to wear are severely worn and only two tie rod ends have grease fittings. these happen to be the only two parts not worn out. i feel not having serviceable grease points on the parts is causing this premature wear along with the use of sub-standard parts, which are not designed to be used with a heavy duty diesel pick up trucks weight. these issues need to be brought to correction before someone is seriously hurt. i am lucky the times the truck has lost control in a shake that i didn't crash. please help, i feel with only 52000 miles on a 2006 truck that this catastrophic failure of a "heavy duty" front should not be happening. someone needs to step in and tell dodge they messed up. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that when whenever the vehicle entered a bridge from the freeway, the vehicle would abnormally wobble and because the contact limited control. he would the decrease the pressure on the accelerator pedal and would have to bring the vehicle to almost to a complete idle in order to regain control. the dealer advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing and the manufacturer was unaware of the issue. the current mileage was 109,000 and the failure mileage was 90,000.

I own a 2006 dodge ram 2500 mega cab. just last week my blinkers started going crazy. i will signal the left blinker and it will signal right and visa versa. this problem happens daily and happens so frequent that i am afraid to drive my truck anywhere. i have not replaced the switch yet. in doing research, it says you must pull the steering wheel to fix the problem. i just thought a wire might be grounding out. i then started to do some research and many many other people are having this issue on their trucks of the same year. i do hope you consider this a recall as it to be a very intense safety issue and i do believe dodge should fix the problem. doing research on the problem it does cost a significant amount. if i have to fix a safety issue that is ongoing with a vehicle and dodge knows about it, it is time for the government to step in and make this corporation fix the safety problem. if they know about the problem and don't fix it, i am sure a lawyer could be contacted to let everyone know about the problem including the ones who won't fix it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. while driving approximately 55 mph, the contact lost control of the steering. the contact was able to stop the vehicle on the shoulder where the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the technician advised that the tie rod had fractured and would have to be replaced. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 11v350000 (steering:linkages:tie rod assembly)but was advised by the manufacturer that the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 38,000.

First- in june 2010, the driver side tie rod end shaft, which goes into the female portion on the wheel, sheared off catastrophically. this occurred while backing up and aligning the truck to hook up a utility trailer. the truck had approximately 42000 miles. the dodge dealership replaced the entire tie rod , including all tie rod ends, and shock absorber on the tie rod. second- on may 13th 2011, the new tie rod failed in same location, in nearly the same scenario. while backing out of a parking spot, a loud snap was heard, followed by the tie rod contacting the tire, causing it to blow out, allowing the truck to drop, including trapping the tie rod beneath the front differential. in both cases the male outer driver's side tie rod end vertical shaft sheared off flush with the tie rod. in both cases the truck was not carrying any load. the truck is used to tow a 5th wheeler several times a year (5-6 x). the 5th wheeler is 10300# unloaded and approx 12300# fully loaded. in neither case was any symptom noted leading up to this event.

Steering death wobble. every time i drive at speeds near 50 to 60 mph and hit a bump in the road it seems to go crazy. i have been scared to get up the speed. i went and had the tires checked and the steering as well. nothing wrong. i scared a customer of mine and he will not get in my truck now. there is a problem with this and no one seems to have the answer. *tr

I drive a 2006 dodge ram 2500 4x4 megacab. i purchased the truck brand new in june 2006. as it stands i have around 65,600 miles on the truck. i was driving down the interstate on june 11, 2010 when i hit a bump doing 70 mph. when i hit the bump it felt as if i had a flat or a tire loose, i could barely control the truck and after i slowed to 40 mph i could steer the truck again. i pulled over and checked to make sure no damage was done. this happened several more times during my trip, each time the truck shook violently and i couldn't control it until i slowed down to about 40 mph. the first time that day, i was lucky to be near a dodge dealer who looked at it and informed it should be safe to drive until i could get to my destination to have it looked it. he informed me of a chrysler technical service bulletin number 22-005-06 issued on october 6, 2006. i have never seen this document before this day. took it to a dealership after i got to my destination to check the problem and the same technical safety bulletin from chrysler was once again shown to me, and i was informed that the problems listed in the bulletin had worn out my ball joints and that was what was causing my issues which have totaled to cost around $3000. we called chrysler customer service and they have refused to call me back, but they have contacted the dealership to inform them that all this was normal wear and tear and that they would only cover $500 worth of parts. now if this was normal wear and tear, why wasn't i as a customer ever notified at any time i brought my truck in for service at any of their dealerships of this issue so it could be checked? furthermore, why wasn't anyone notified when this came to light in october 2006? this is in my opinion a safety issue. had i been pulling a loaded trailer behind this truck (as it's designed to do), who knows what type of accident i would've had? *tr

2006 dodge ram tie rod, broke knocking going bad have to replace dodge will not pay for it although they offer a up grade and have recognized there is a problem. hope it does not turn into a toyota type deal and many other i have talked or blogged are having same problem. *tr

My 2006 dodge ram 2500 shakes violently when it hits a bump at speeds over 40 mph. this truck has an extended warranty that my dealership will not honor. this "death wobble" condition is documented everywhere on the net. chrysler has figured out a way to charge $1,000.00 for the mandatory repair by calling it an "tie rod update" updates are not covered by warranty. i am very disappointed in this crooked practice. this "dodge death wobble" is a condition that should be a major concern to them. i was charged $100.00 for them to inspect my truck and tell me that it is a known problem that they stock parts for it. i have not had a crash yet but, can't afford to pay chrysler anymore money to fix their problems. i will continue to drive this truck in this condition until there is a recall. for the safety of everyone one the road i would think that someone would force this issue. i've seen news stories on this and still nothing has happened.http://www.wsoctv.com/news/19518416/detail.html. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that while driving on a dirt road at approximately 30 mph, the tie rod failed, causing the vehicle to go into a ditch. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealership where it was repaired. the failure occurred again under similar circumstances and was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that they would have to replace the tie rod and other parts. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the vin was unavailable when the complaint was filed. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000. the current mileage was approximately 102,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph and attemtping a turn, he heard an abnormal noise. the manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 70,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. the contact was driving approximately 5 mph. the steering wheel exhibited a free play of 2 1/2 inches. the vehicle steered straight into one direction. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. the failure was contributed to the steering wheel and the service warranty expired. the vehicle was previously repaired under a different owner when the gear box lower plug was replaced. through observation, the contact discovered that the lower plug was not installed in the gear box from the previous repair. the manufacturer was notified and refused to be financially responsible for the repair. the failure mileage was 49,000. the current mileage was 51,000.

Uncontrollable steering when hitting a bump or washboard above 40 mph (commonly known as death wobble) unresponsive steering. truck has been looked at by several mechanics, parts have been replaced and tires have been changed twice to other brands. truck still does this on occasion?currently many 03-09 2500 and 3500 trucks are having this issue? many of which were never fixed and are now out of warranty. this is very dangerous at highway speeds and i would be surprised if there weren't already many accidents due to this problem that has been going on for years? *tr

Steering becomes erratic when hitting a pot hole on the interstate. front axle was bouncing like a ping pong ball. contacted champion dodge. *tr

Steering becomes erratic and uncontrollable when you hit a slight bump in the road, causing complete loss of control of the truck. aka death wobble. *tr

While driving on the garden state parkway the front end of the vehicle began shaking violently. once the shakling began the vehicle was totally out of control. once i slowed to 45 mph the shaking stopped however during this time the vehicle was driving itself. thankfully there was no crash and i was able to continue driving. the next day during my commute the same exact thing happen. a check of the vehicle reveals no worn parts including the tires and tie rods. a check of the internet shows this is a common problem and referred to as the "death wobble" and was even the subject of discussion on the news. this is extremely dangerous and will lead to accidents and injuries. this matter that chrysler is aware of needs more attention and a recall should be announced. i am told that the track bar is the problem and will be repaired asap *cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500 mega cab. the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would become difficult to control and he would lose control of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on three occasions, where they replaced the pitman arms twice and the steering box. the manufacturer was aware of the failure. the current mileage was 106,794. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

Was driving on interstate at 65mph and hit a small bump and the front end of truck (2006 dodge ram 2500) started to shake violently up and down and from side to side. i had to immediately pull to right lane and brake to get off the road (luckily no car to the side of me at the time of the incident). once vehicle slowed down to approxmiately 30 mph the shaking stopped. i have looked this up online and found many complaints for the same problem - called the "death wobble". this should be taken very seriously and chrysler should be held responsible to make the fix. i did not have my children in the truck at the time of this incident, but it is used as a family vehicle. i called the dodge dealer and of course they have never heard of this problem - find this very hard to believe. i then called the truck center where we purchased the vehicle (not affiliated with chrysler) - they said that they have had many customers complain of the same problem with this make/model. there was not a crash this time, but there very well could have been. *tr

2006 dodge ram 2500 diesel. passenger side tie rod end falling off of ball. this is the second time this has happened to this vehicle. one at around 60000 miles. and the other was at around 135000 miles. tie rod ends had recently serviced by dodge facility and another alignment shop no one detected any problems. this is a major problem and causes loss of vehicle control and in the second instance caused me to leave the roadway out of control. no injuries were caused but i live in a mostly rural area and no one was around at the time of either incident. i would add that my family has 4 more of the same vehicle and all have had this same failure. *cn

Death wobble. *tr

Driving down the interstate at 70 miles an hour when i drove over a bridge expansion joint, the truck began so shake so violently that i had to pull off the road to complete stop to get the shaking to stop, this happened 8 more times on a 300 mile trip. upon searching online this seems to be a very common and serious problem for this model of vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500 mega cab. while driving at a low speed the right front axle failed. the mechanic discovered that the right front passenger side tie rod had fractured. the manufacturer stated that they could not sell him the part separately because the tie rod was re-designed and that it was sold as a unit. he contacted the dealer, and he was advised that the part was a common failure due to s manufacturers defect. the vehicle was repaired. the current and the failure mileages were 59,000.

Front end of vehicle started a violent shaking after hitting a transition between asphalt and concrete surfaces at approximately 60 mph. this shaking did not resolve until vehicle was brought to a complete stop. after bringing the truck to the dodge dealer, was told that this is a known problem with the dodge heavy duty trucks, and that the steering components had been redesigned. dealer offered to replace the parts with the new design at my cost - approximately $640. dealer disposed of old parts. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. while driving 65 mph the passenger side steering knuckle fractured; which caused a loss of steering. he was able to avoid a crash. the vehicle was towed to a dealer for repairs. the failure and current mileages were 59,024. updated 11/12/09 *cn updated 11/16/09

Driving along a busy interstate at 65mph, after going over a small bump in the road the steering became so violent and uncontrollable. later read it is known as the dodge death wobble. seems it ha happened to more than just this dodge owner on a stock truck. why hasn't there been a recall, is chrysler waiting for someone to die before they react? why be reactive when you can be proactive with all the complaints that have already been noted. *tr

My 2006 dodge ram 2500 4x4 megacab is experiencing a very violent shaking in front suspension. had a recall and dealer said it did not apply to my vehicle. have tried alignments, new tires, new steering stabilizer dampers, even a frame brace that goes from one frame rail to the other to help stiffen front end. every time you hit a bump it loses control and you have to come to a complete stop so it can stop shaking so violently. if you search the internet you will find hundreds more if not thousands are having the same problem as well. there are even forums on this issue. i know that there is an ongoing investigation on this issue but it covers 2008's and above . older models are experiencing this issue as well. the public is in danger over this issue. dodge should be made liable and held accountable. they need to fix this issue before innocent people get hurt. *kb

Tie-rod end broke suddenly. mine broke during a turn from a us highway to a county road so that i was moving slowly. immediate loss of steering was the result. recall has been issued on one set of replacement parts but not on the original equipment parts that have also failed at least as often. *tr
