Defroster does not work, blower emits air (cold) but only to floor. loud popping noise from air box, found actuators were malfunctioning. nearly caused collision with oncoming traffic. contacted chrysler for recall status and they claimed truck was under this recall, however truck had been inspected and found to have no problems with regards to air box actuators. i subsequently found out from a nameless dodge technician that they were instructed to engage air systems for the inspection and if no apparent malfunction is found they were to pass the recall and write it off. i am outraged that yet another corporate entity is preying on american consumers and getting by with it, while claiming to stand behind their product and it's engineering. i asked chrysler what repair was needed. they replied" air box circulation doors bad. would need box removed and replace 5 actuators and doors. cost would be $800 to $1000 dollars. this is a safety issue 3/4 of the year. i now have been notified by dodge of another recall for my truck regarding the axle pinion nut. i believe this recall will receive the same attention they gave to my air box issue and therefore am attempting to take action with this complaint. will someone please make these corporate penny pinching sobs stand up and take responsibility for their poor engineering!!!! *tr

Was notified in february of 2013 that my vehicle was being recalled for the rear axle retaining nut. the nut could come loose causing the rear end to seize, or causing the rear axle to come out of its housing. mike anderson in rochester, in told me that they had not received the repair kit and would notify me when it came in. i checked back about 6 months later. they still had not received the part. i heard nothing since. it seems that two years is an excessive length of time to fix this serious problem.

I was driving and heard a whining noise when i released the accelerator. i was going to get my wife to have her help me to drop it off at my mechanic. i heard a loud bang and i lost the ability to drive forward. i was able to get pulled over to the curb. i got out and found the drive shaft had fallen off the rear pumpkin. i attempted to put the vehicle into 4wd do get off the street but was unable to as the rear tires had locked up. the tow truck arrived and he told me the pinion nut had given out. he winched the truck onto his flatbed and took it to the dodge dealership. they did a vin check and found no recalls. i did a search and found a recall on the rear differential pinion nut, just not including my vehicle. *tr

Referencing nhtsa campaign number: 13v038000. i received notice my truck is involved in this recall late april or early may 2013. the letter stated when parts were available i would be sent a follow up letter so that repairs could be made. i contacted marmies motors in great bend, ks 6/20/2013 and they stated the follow up letters had not been issued. it is now august 15, 2013 and i still have not received the follow up letter. this is entirely to long of time period and chrysler is making a mockery out of the nhtsa not only in the delay of notifying owners about parts availability, but also their slow notification time of the original recall letter which according to your notice was to begin in march, 2013. *tr
The steel cooler lines from the transmission to the factory installed transmission cooler started leaking at the crimped area between the steel and rubber joints. chrysler knows there is a problem because there is a long delay for getting replacement parts. they will not be releasing the parts until later in february. this leak could become a major problem and cause a transmission failure. chrysler does not want to cover this under warranty and it could impact the power train (which is under a lifetime warranty). this needs to be investigated to see if it is a systematic problem those could cause injury or loss of property. *tr
In feb, dodge issued a recall on my vehicle 13v038000 for a defect that might lock up the drive train at any speed. it has now been seven months and dodge still does not have a solution for this recall. i think dodge is stalling , knowing that nhtsa is impotent and cannot touch them if they continue to delay. dodge needs to be fined by the government and make punitive payments to the owners of these vehicles.
At approx 1pm on jan 22nd i was driving north along a secondary road in my 2009 dodge ram 1500. i was traveling at approx 40 mph with my seatbelt on when i began to hear a whistling noise from the truck. as i slowed to figure out what it was, a loud bang was heard and the truck spun violently in a counterclockwise motion. as it did, the truck went airborne and crossed over the southbound side of the highway. it chromed off the bottom of some low hanging tree branches and came to a rest in the ditch to the right of the southbound side of the road. initially i did not feel any pain but called for a tow truck. shortly afterwards i began to have some significant pain in my left shoulder/neck and my right ribcage area. fire and ems were dispatched and arrived approx 5-10 minutes later. i was taken to a local er, evaluated and released with cracked cartilage in my lower right ribcage area. the truck was towed to a local dodge dealer for evaluation. i was later informed that the rear pinion nut had come off causing the gear to come into contact with the driveshaft, locking up the left rear wheel. there was an apparent recall for similar trucks from july-sept 2009, however my truck was purchased in march 2009. since the accident dodge has re-issued the recall to include my truck. i am writing this complaint to make sure that my truck is included in whatever analysis is done as a result of this defect. *tr

While driving at 30 miles per hour, the vehicle made a slight road noise sound, such as a rock stuck in the tire tread. within 2 minutes of the sound starting, there was a loud "pop" sound and the driveshaft flew out from underneath the truck. upon investigation, the entire transmission was shattered into many pieces. when the wrecker arrived, the truck had to be towed from the rear as the rear end was locked up. this truck was the laramie 4 wheel drive model and had absolutely no warning with issues at all. i bought it used at westgate dodge in plainfield indiana with 40,000 miles in february 2012. i had the wrecker driver tow it to andy mohr chevrolet in plainfield the same day and i traded it in. i lost $7,000 due to the damage. i would not feel safe with this truck after it was repaired. the truck had a clean car fax when purchased and was not included in any recalls according to chrysler. *tr
The pinion nut has backed off the yoke on my 2009 dodge ram 1500 slt 4x4 crew cab. i was looking underneath my truck and found oil from the rear differential splattered everywhere. the truck is going in 19 december to be looked at. there is currently a recall for this issue, but apparently my build date doesn't fall in line. i can tell you this is happening to ram 1500's across the board. my build date is 1/09. the recall date needs to be expanded to include all 4th generation dodge ram's built in 2009 and 2010. thank you. *tr

When accelerating from a traffic light, the rear differential pinion snapped in half, causing the vehicle to roll backwards. after rolling back, the rear wheels locked up. i understand this to be a common failure with this vehicle, and had the failure occurred a few seconds earlier at highway speed this could have caused a serious collision. *tr

My truck started making a noise in the drive shaft area, on my way home as i was turning off the highway and my speed lowered, i felt something drop and truck jerked and something was dragging. i immediately pulled of road and put vehicle in park at which time it gave a small jerk. once i got out of the vehicle and looked under it i could see the driveshaft laying on the ground. the rear differential pinion nut had came off. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge ram 1500. while driving approximately 20 mph, a loud bang emitted from the outside of the vehicle and both of the rear tires suddenly seized. the rear end of the vehicle began to sway, which caused the vehicle to travel uncontrollably. the contact was able to regain control and the vehicle came to a stop. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who advised the contact that the rear differential would need to be replaced. the vehicle was scheduled for repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 65,800.
Drive-shaft dropped off rear diff. at highway speed. diff. fluid drained causing the rear wheels to seize. i heard drive shaft start to drag and had a loss of power so i was slowing down when at approx. 45 mph rear wheels locked suddenly. i was able to stop safely but was blocking an off ramp for the 2 hours it took to get a flat bed to get the truck. dealer said pinion nut came off. *tr
While driving the rear end locked up and drvie shaft came unattached from rear end. vehicle was not able to roll and was towed to dealer for evaluation. after initial evaluation from dealer other isues noted were at least the transfer case was damaged. *tr
After just getting off the freeway. i was driving along going about 30 mph, when i heard this noise coming from the rearend of my vehicle. i pulled of the road and noticed little drops of oil leaking from the rack and pinion area. i got back in my truck to go home and next thing i noticed the rearend of my truck locked up and the driveline fell off. i had my truck towed to midway chrysler in postfalls idaho. it took over 2 weeks for them to fix everything. on the way home i was on the freeway and noticed the rearend was shaking and vibrating. i took it back and they noticed they put the old driveline back on instead of the new one they ordered for my truck. i had them replace the pinion seal on the truck, because it was leaking oil again after all that shaking. the only thing they could say was sorry, things happen. *tr
Heard a clunking and whining sound while driving. suddenly, i heard a loud thud sound really loud, the rear end locked up and white smoke was filling up the air behind my truck. i had to wait for a car to pass. the pounding became super loud. i was in the fast lane and the truck jerked, i tried merging to the right lane and as i did that, i could barely control my steering wheel. my truck started to slide sideways down the highway. later, once the truck stopped sideways on the highway approximately 150 ft, i realized the loud thud was my drive shaft, it disconnected from the rear differential and hit the ground. the truck almost flipped over and i was on a bridge. my truck was then pushed by a highway patrol car out of traffic and later onto a tow truck because it could not be moved. the drive shaft was laying on the ground. oil was pouring out of rear differential. (pics available) once at the dodge dealer, i was told that the pin in the drive shaft had fallen off and a large portion of it was not there anymore (probably still on the highway). once that broke off apparently it stuck in the rear axle which locked up my back tires. at first they asked me if i had a rear differential check up lately. i explained that they serviced my car last and would be the ones to know if it needed it. then i did research and found so many others with same truck and same exact problem. it was scary and glad i didn't have my family in the car when it happened. my lower back is still in major pain, i had to go to an orthopedic surgeon and now on 3 different pain meds- and out of work. what a mess! *tr
I was sitting at a red stop light. when the light turned green i released my foot from the brake and put my foot on the gas pedal. at that time i heard a loud boom and the truck shook as if we were hit from behind. we were not hit. the truck would run, but would not drive when it was in gear. my truck was towed to the local dealership and it was determine the rear pinion shaft snapped in half. *tr
I heard a whining sound while driving about 40mph, decided to get off busy street to investigate. as i approached the turn lane (slowing to about 5mph) the rear end locked up. i heard a lot of rattling and then a kerplunk as smoke started coming from underneath the truck. the "kerplunk" was my drive shaft, it disconnected from the rear differential and hit the ground. my truck had to be dragged out of traffic and onto a tow truck. i don't know what caused the failure but it was scary. im glad i was not on the highway, especially because my 3 yr and my 1 yr girls were with me. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, there was a loud noise as vehicle abruptly. stopped accelerating without warning.the rear wheels also seized when the failure occurred. the contact saw that the rear driveshaft was detached from the vehicle. the rear differential had also seized. the vehicle was towed to the dealer but the exact failure was unknown. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate current and failure mileage was 34,000.
I am requesting the nhtsa explore the power train issues affecting the 2009 dodge ram 1500. driver was on highway driving at 60mph when truck starting making a whining and grinding sound which continued for about 1 mile before truck started to run funny . driver slowed down and moved to the right lane when there was a big bang and a cloud of black smoke came from back end of truck. at the same time the rear end of the vehicle locked up and truck went skidding off the road. when driver examined car found that the entire drive shaft rod and transfer case were laying underneath of vehicle along with multiple other pieces of hardware. the transmission was also locked up and unable to release even in the neutral position. when the dodge dealer looked into the incident they stated a " pin fell out of the drive shaft and backed up into the rear causing the pin to jam the transfer case". this incident resulted in a complete rebuild of the entire power train system. we would like to see a guide rail made mandatory for dodge vehicles as this rod fallout could have resulted in a flipped vehicle. furthermore less than 4 weeks later while driving same vehicle at 15 mph the truck started to shake violently and had to be towed because of a shredded bolt in the rear stabilizer bar that connects the rear to the axle. vehicle once again to dealer who claims it is all due to the initial issue. *tr
While driving with my wife at a speed of about 45 mph my axle fell out of my 2009 dodge ram. we lost all control of the vehicle and were stuck in the street while awaiting a tow truck. this was caused due to my pinion nut coming off.i took the vehicle to dodge and i ask if there was a recall on theses trucks, they told me there was no recall. i had the repairs done which cost me $1898.66. i recently found out that they had in fact did a recall recently. i wrote to chrysler as i was directed.i received a phone call today 11/01/2012 and they informed me that my truck was not included in the recall because it was not manufactured between 07/01/09 30/11/09. mine was manufactured in dec of 08. please somebody help me !! i know that im not gonna be the only one complaining about this . *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge ram 1500. while driving approximately 45 mph, the rear wheels seized abnormally and the vehicle began to spin. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostics where the technicians advised the contact that the rear differential and drive shaft would have to be replaced. the contact stated there were other repairs performed to the vehicle but he was unaware of the exact repairs. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 65,585. *js
Rear differential failure. pinion bolt came loose causing the entire rear differential/rear end to lock up as i was driving. my truck would not accelerate nor move in neutral after the pinion bolt came loose. *tr
I was driving home when i started hearing a whining/grinding noise from under the truck it continued for about 2 miles growing louder and louder. i realized something was very wrong with the truck so i slowed down and pulled into the turning lane, just as i did the rear end locked up and i heard a loud bang, i got out of the truck a found that the drive shaft had fallen off onto the ground. this really concerns me because had this had happened at a fast rate of speed the results could have been catastrophic. i drive my 3 year daughter around in this vehicle and now worry about hers and my safety. the dealership said the pinion gear failed throughout the ring gear causing major damage to my axle and drive shaft. the rear axle and drive shaft will need to be completely rebuilt. the work is covered under my lifetime powertrain warranty. *tr
I own a 2009 dodge ram 1500 this incident happened in southern california on the 605 north interchange with the 91 east. i was heading north on the 605 north. merging onto the 605, i hear a grinding noise coming from under the vehicle. so i begin to slow down, i then tried to accelerate a bit and notice i have no power. the grinding stops and then i can hear the drive shaft bouncing on the ground below my vehicle. the drive shaft was still attached in the front dragging along the freeway. i immediately pulled over. i get out of the vehicle, and there it is the drive shaft snapped. ripped right away from the pinion in the rear end. everything ripped out there were no bolts left on the rear end. i got towed to the nearest dodge dealer. they inform me that there has been a recall on that particular part. i had never received a recall notice or i would have taken my vehicle in immmediately. luckily there wasn't anything further damage to my vehicle that i know of. i have just received knowledge of this website. or else my complaint would have been filed quite some time ago.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the rear end seized and the drive shaft fractured without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure but did replace the driver shaft and performed minor repairs to the transmission. the failure recurred one year later. the contact was informed that the failure was covered under nhtsa campaign id number: 13v038000 (power train). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 128,000. *tr
