Recently reported ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING problems on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Recently purchased brand new, 2004 dodge ram 1500 quad cab w/5.7 hemi. awesome truck though quality is a issue. defective coolant surge tank or possible other defective parts leading to excessive build up of pressure. end result, coolant over flow making a mess and low coolant. have taken to authorized dealer twice within a month. dodge service tested and confirm however, monitoring and asked for truck to be return if coolant leak is agian present. problem is surge tank and cap have abundant residue coolant present. my answer, dugh! the system is a failure. no replacement parts were offered, dealer states coolant over flow was due to possible overfill. funny thing is at 3k maintenance, coolant problem was addressed and service department stated on receipt overfilled and corrected. well then 500 miles later, coolant still leaks and service department saying nothings wrong. i guess dodge truck are required to leak then. ?*ak

The vehicle shut down, losing power to steering, brakes, and the consumer was left in traffic. vehicle was serviced, and the dealer stated there was no solution for the problem they knew that existed. *ak

Dt: at certain speeds the truck is choking down, not getting enough gas. *ak at time the vehicle operates as if it's not getting enough fuel. the gas mileage has also been drastically reduced. *nm

2004 dodge ram 1500 slt quad cab 5.7 v8 hemi- 1003 miles on vehicle the first time it stalled while driving. no "check engine" light comes on and dealer unable to duplicate problem. has happened 4 times within 8 months. no power steering when stalls and almost crossed into opposing traffic lane the 2nd occurence. major safety hazzard issue!!! chrysler not responding to buyback request.*ak

2004 dodge truck extra cab 1500 has problems of stalling while driving.*mr the dealer flashed the pcm but that did not keep the vehicle from stalling. while driving up a slight grade the consumer heard a clunking noise from the transmission when it went into overdrive. the dealer test drove the vehicle but could not duplicate the problem. *nm

At less than 300 miles, shifted into 4 wheel drive while doing 65 mph on the interstate. taken to dealership and was told a wire was left loose and wrapped around another part causing the problem. also complained the truck was dying while driving. also told this was a wiring problem. at 19000 the tires needed replaced and at 80000 miles the oil pressure gauge dropped to 0. *nm

2004 dodge 1500 quad cab hemi - stalled while taking an exit ramp from the highway. had it for two week with 524 miles on it. i see that this was a complaint before from someone, but my dealer claims they never heard of this. however they can't look at it for several days - i told them i thought this was a safety issue, but didn't seem to matter. not a good situation trying to control a truck with no power steeering. *la

Brakes locked up on 2004 dodge ram 1500. *mr the brakes locked up. they unlocked on their own and continued to be functional. the consumer was told that something other than the brake fluid was in the brake fluid. the consumer felt that the someone in the service department, selling dealership, or manufacturer topped the fluid off incorrectly. *sc a faulty belt was replaced in the engine. *jb

Vehicle stalled in varying conditions. stalled/stopped at stop light 3 times. coasting down hill 3 times 60 + mph. accelerating up hill 4 times at 60 + mph. driving from stop with wheels turned af full lock 2 times. also stalled after starting up or when put into reverse 2 times. *ak

Second complaint - 2004 dodge ram 1500 quad cab hemi with 700 miles (i only had for 2 weeks) began stalling so i brought to the dealer for service. they said it was the egr valve and that they would need to order this part on national backorder. they retained my vehicle and have had it for 3 days. i keep calling and they say that they cannot get the part. i have called chrysler customer service and they cannot help. the delaer refuses to swap the part from his inventory because he does not want his inventory disabled, but it is fine with him if my car that i already paid 40k for is disabled. will write more when i know more. *ak

2004 dodge ram 1500 slt quad cab hemi - vehicle with 700 miles on it stalled several times for no apparent reason - almost resulted in being rear ended. *ak

I was approaching a road that i was going to make a right turn on, after traveling on a highway at approximately 60 mph. when i had slowed enough to start to make my turn, the truck stalled without warning and i had to complete the turn without power steering to avoid hitting a car waiting to turn at the light. i am a fairly big guy and made the turn without incident but had to really pull on the steering wheel to turn it. if my wife had been driving she would not have been able to make the turn. this happened when the truck had approximately 500 to 1000 miles on it. it never stalled again since then. the truck now has 12000 miles on it.*ak

Vehicle shook, and engine overheated. also, engine light illuminated. *ak

This happen to me three times the first time december 2003 two months after i got the vehicle. the second time it happened june 2004, and the third time it happened september 2004. the first time it happened. i was driving down the highway in 4 wheel drive high about 30 to 35 mph when the truck stalled. i had no indication that it stalled except for loss of power steering. the second time this happened i was driving down a gravel road about 35 to 40mph. i was coming up on a curve in the road, and the vehicle stalled again. again i lost power steering, and came close to going into the ditch with my 1 year old boy. the third time this happened i was stopped at a stop light when the vehicle stalled. i have taken the vehicle in twice for this, and the dealership said the computer in the engine probrably just reset itself, and there is nothing they can do about it. i have written a letter to dodge, and sent it in with their survey after the last incident, and haven't heard back.
