Turned on the a/c and dash cracked and white powder was coming out of my vents and now my heater is not working that happened on the passenger side, i think the airbag came open but did not deploy?

Takata recall- i own a late 2002 dodge ram 1500. 2002 was a mid year change so my body is exactly the same as the 2003-2007 (or so) rams. i'd be willing to bet the farm my air bag is a takata brand the same as the 2003 which has been recalled. given that, why isn't my vehicle on the list? thank you

Vehicle problem first started when turning steering wheel to the right entirely. currently vehicle airbag light comes on and of through all ranges of steering. *js

There was an electrical failure in the wiring system from the fuse block this is known to be a common problem with the dodge rams the abs light, brake light and airbag light as well as the engine light all come on also the odometer and speedometer also stop working. this stops the abs system from working as well as the airbags i have had to change the fuse block as well as the rear speed sensor, and the dash cluster because of this over a three year period now, the first time all of my lights stopped working as well as the dash gauges and door locks. why is this and ongoing problem with this and nothing seems to get done about it the first time i got a copy of a service bulletin and dodge tried to tell me it was only good for diesel models and i have the same issues. there seems to be a real history of these problems with this vehicle and the dealers are all aware of this. *tr

Dodge collided with another vehicle in the front left and then the other vehicle spun around and hit the side of the dodge. all safety airbags in car failed to deploy and no airbag check light was on during the life of the dodge. also the other vehicle was a dodge and it had less damage and all airbags deployed in that vehicle. *tr

2002 dodge ram 1500 cracked dashboard over air bag on passenger side . this problem seems to be happening too many dodge ram pickups from the 1993 model year through 2005 model year. the edge of the cracked plastic is sharp and pose a serious injury probability in the event of accident and airbag inflation. a person can easily cut their finger or hand while cleaning the dash are servicing the vehicle. *kb

The dash in my 2002 dodge ram 1500 is cracking and falling apart (defective plastic)and dodge/chrysler will not stand behind it's product. the air bag is right below & connected to the plastic that has cracked. i am worried that if the air bag is deployed that this plastic (which is very sharp pieces) will be very dangerous to anyone in the vehicle.i also pick up my grandchildren every day from school and the dash on my truck has broken in so many places that it is now falling apart and huge pieces falling out.this plastic is very sharp and could slice open anyone around it. i have always kept my truck parked in a garage since i have owned it(2002)-so the sun is not the problem-it is a defective product that was installed on my vehicle when built. i have contacted my dealership twice and they tell me that there is nothing they will do about it. *tr

I was just driving along, crack my dash cracked from front end to almost the back. the crack caused me to jump swerve my truck almost causing an accident. dodge has been no help and my dash has deteriorated even more ever since, i'm getting very worried it might affect the air bags as all the dash pieces fall into the recess where the air bags are which would be a bad thing should there be an accident. *tr

A vehicle was left unattended on a hillside in direct sunlight after it had already hit a mailbox. i struck vehicle in left rear with my right front it totaled both vehicles. i was driving about 50 mph and never seen car prior to impact. it injured both passengers in back seat both front seat occupants were not injured but airbags never deployed. *tr

Excessive cracks have formed in both dashboard pieces. the plastic has become very brittle and sharp pieces are beginning to fall into the wiring underneath. nothing particular happened that caused it, they just appeared overnight. conversations with the local dodge dealer and chrysler customer service yeilded no assistance. i am concerned of the sharp edges of the plastic falling into the dashboard wiring and causing electrical failures while driving or, in the event of an airbag deployment, shards of the shattering plastic impaling the driver or passenger. *cn

5 years after manufacture of this vehicle the dashboards have gone from fractured to nearly completely dissolved. through research this issue is applicable to all vehicles produced with this make and model. the issue has become a safety concern now that the air bags have become exposed and will not properly inflate if needed. dodge has received more than 16,000 complaints and insists these faulty parts are the responsibility of the consumer. however they are more than happy to refer you a certified dealer with a replacement cost of approximately 975 dollars us. *tr

The driver was going 30 mph and hit a tree. all the frontal part of the vecicle was bent inward and the radiator was damaged. neither the frontal nor side air bags deployed. it has not been yet reported to the dealer. the truck had to be towed and it is currently not drivable. *nm

Dashboard begin cracking and finally in a couple days of weeks broke apart completely as i had been in a crash.i called the company they said the warranty had expired.i told them i have 1992 ford aerostar whose dashboard was completely .intact and that it was much older it had to be a structural defect. they offer to pay half which meant i had to pay 500.00 dollars, which i didn't have. i felt they should pay all of it. also the airbag light is on and the rpm accelerate without me pushing the gas pedal.i took many times to the dealership and they said they would fix it but they never did. *tr

I was traveling on a dirt road which is all we have in the area and the left rear tire blew out causing me to lose control of my 2002 dodge ram which then plowed over several trees and finally coming to rest head on in a group of 3 trees totaling my truck. the front end of the truck was more than extensively damaged and the air bag did not deploy causing neck and back injuries as well as my tooth being broke in half. daimler chrysler was notified and scanned the on board computer and stated that since no codes showed up that the air bags were fully functional. *jb

I hit a tree doing 45 mph no air bags deployed on either the drivers or passenger side of the truck. i had severe damage to my face and i am facing two more operations in the next year. cause for air bags not deploying is unknown but chrysler corp has checked the computer and found no codes in the computer to cause the air bags not to come out. the truck was a total loss. they have not found out why they did not deploy. *jb

on june 4th,2005 my wife had an accident in a 2002 dodge pickup. on her way to work she was driveing around 45 miles an hour. until a cat ran in front of her by reflax she tried to aviod the cat so she swerved to the right and struck a mailbox then she swerved to the left trying to gian control of the truck. then while trying to gian control swerved back to the right going over a ditch and entering private property. then she struck a pine tree which also struck some power lines. when she crashed into the pine tree the airbags didn't deploy also the seat belt didn't lock ethier. my wife hit the steering wheel with the chest and her elbows. agter she hit the steering wheel she bounced back tothe set which caused her neck pian and left soulder and her left side of her lower back. which lead to her damageing her lower back she was also taken to the emergncy room by an ambulance. then i called chrysler on june 6th 2005 they asked me for my vin number of my truck. then they lied to me about calling, sending a letter,send a fax to the bodyshop where my truck at, and each time i called they always change infomation and they haven't told anything regarding to my truck. old parts are still available. this the reference number 137455235 the report number from the state trooper is fhpa05ff024427.

While driving at interstate speed (70 mph), and switching lanes while on a bridge, the excessive bouncing and bad suspension of truck make me lose control of the truck. the truck pulled to the right and the rear end of the truck ended up spinning around, making a complete 180--- on a bridge!! i ended up slamming into the safety rail of the bridge. and the air bags didn't go off. luckily, i wasn't injured. at first i thought the accident was my fault, but after talking to a few owners of this model, i figured out that many of us have had the same problems with this truck. the question is, why is this problem not being fixed?? i have talked to the dealer, and they just keep referring me to dealers from other towns. *jb

Vehicle was involved in a head on collision with two light poles at 45 mph and airbags did not activate. the driver was knocked unconscious by the steering wheel and the passenger broke the windshield with his head. only suffered minor injuries. collision happened in mexico.*ak

While driving 65 mph driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree. upon impact, both frontal air bags failed to deploy. driver to sustained major injuries ,and was transported to a hospital. the vehicle was towed to a garage. *ak

My dash has completely cracked and is in pieces,(sharp pieces), it could affect the wiring in my dash, if i did have an accident the air bags in the dash could throw those sharp pieces at me and my passengers. note: these crack were at no fault of mine or my passengers. the cracks started two years after i bought the truck brand new.

2002 dodge ram 1500 had a severe front end collison that totalled the truck and bent the frame into a diamond shape. neither the passenger nor driver side air bags deployed. there was not a portion of the front end of the vehicle that did not sustain damage. several body shops have stated that, that kind of collision is what the air bags are made for.

I rented this truck from enterprise, i was blinded by an oncoming 18 wheeler and ran into a big truck that stopped in front of me. the first problem was the brakes locked up sending me into the opposite lane where an 18 wheeler was coming at me. i let off the brakes and did a controlled crash into the truck in front of me. the driver side air bag did not deploy causing me great pain and injuries that have yet to be fully determined. lawyers told me that sine i was not killed i could never win a battle with the auto makes so once again the small guy gets the short end of the stick. i just thought by reporting this too you, you may be able to get this information out to other people who own this kind of defective product and possibly save a life. thank you for your time. *jb ***dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****770770
