The dash board on my truck started to crack and pieces have fallen down into the electrical wiring. this is a dangerous situation since wires could be shorted and in an accident sharp pieces of plastic could fly inside the cabin injuring passengers. dodge should indicate a work order to replace the damaged dashes. *tr

2001 dodge ram 1500 whit dashboard that has severe cracking. i'm starting to have electrical problems also.

Cracked dash in 2 different spots. appears to be a problem with several 2nd gen rams. i'm worried about airbag safety and durability during an accident. *nm

Dash boards and bezel cracking on 2001 dodge ram quad cab. internet search shows multiple occurrences. safety issue, sharp parts could fly off during crash. could affect the air bag. dodge does not recognize this as a problem. *nm

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500, when it was only 4 years old the dash started cracking. since then, the entire top of the dash is collapsed and cracks are appearing in the frame as well as the lower dash. shards of plastic from the dash went into the blower for the a\c and came out of the vents. if i didn't wear glasses anyway the shards could have damaged my eyes. i had to replace the fan's squirrel cage due to the damage from pieces of dash. since then the glove compartment fell out of the lower dash and landed on my sons foot. no serious injury but cuts and a bruise. dodge needs to step up to the plate and fix these instead of pretending that this is not a problem. i love my truck but if they don't fix this issue, next time i'll buy a ford. *tr

The dashboard caved in on the 2001 dodge ram 1500 truck. it started out with cracking to eventually detioriating, and dangerous wires were exposed. it needed to be corrected. now, the air conditioner (a/c ) only worked if i put a rug on top of the dashboard. *ak

2001 dodge ram 1500 cracked dash potentially causing faulty air bag deployment. *nm

Severe cracks on dashboard right over steering wheel and air bag since about two years ago and are getting worse! looks like i am not alone with this problem! why is no one doing anything about this? does there have to be an injury or death to have this addressed? there are 40 or more complaints about this -- hello! why don't you get it? *tr

Approximately two years ago my 2001 dodge ram, 1500 sport started to develop cracks in the dash board. it deteriorated rapidly and it now has huge holes and cracks across the entire surface. dodge has refused to assist in the unusually high cost of replacement. the warranty was expired for less than a year after the cracks began. the date given below is an estimate. *nm

My dash has been cracking out over the last few years. for about the last 10 months to a year i have had check engine light that has no significance to the way it runs, and the code is unrecognizable to auto garage. also i have wiring problems for about the same amount of time. my dash lights will go out completely on their own and sometimes come back on, sometimes not. also there are sharp edges on the plastic dash everywhere. as of two weeks ago, a section caved in, leaving a gaping hole about 6 by 8 inches in size. the cracks and hole look identical to pictures of other dodge truck dashes i've seen on the internet and news. i feel that the sharp edges alone make for a safety issue, and since the cracks are so sharp and sever by the passenger airbag deployment site, i wonder if it would fail during deployment. combined with the wiring issues that i and so many other owners are experiencing that a safety recall should be issued immediately before someone is seriously injured because of the faulty plastic used on all these dodge trucks. *tr

2001 dodge ram 1500 p/u dashboard has continually fell apart to the point where there is a large hole from drivers side to passenger side.the drivers side heated mirror has ceased to operate since a large portion of the dash fell. i have placed a carpeted dash cover over the remaining dash to hopefully prevent further damage. *tr

Cracks appeared in the dashboard for no obvious reason. within a matter of months large chunks began falling out of the dash. the bezel also cracked. lack of dash exposes some electrical components underneath. whether this has caused damage to these components including the airbag is unknown at this time. *tr

My 2001 dodge ram 1500 dash is completely cracked and has several holes in it where the plastic has caved in. i am concerned the holes and continued cracking will cause exposed wires to be burnt or severed, which could endanger the lives of the passengers in the vehicle. *tr

Dashboard cracking; huge holes in dashboard. *jb

Over a couple of months the dash cracked in multiple places and ended up falling apart completely while driving over railroad tracks. now there is a pile of sharp, brittle, hard, plastic pieces with more falling out each week. if ever in a crash these pieces will fly all over the cab of the truck and be a safety hazard. *tr

My 2001 dodge that i bought new only has 61,000 original miles on it and the dash has big chunks out of it. started with cracks witch i thought was odd being so new then it just caved in. it has sharp edges on it i know from personal experience. it really is unsafe to drive with the exposed wiring and the sharp edges. i worked for chrysler dealerships from 78-82 and have seem some of their poorer manufacturing. this truck is made very well except for this dangerous dashboard. there are numerous websites and forums that have owners stating exactly what i am stating. chrysler needs to make this right and fix all of the owners up with a new dash made from a different vender that will age with the rest of the vehicle and be safe. i am afraid that if i were to be in an accident the dashboard may be the instrument of death. *tr

While driving heard a cracking noise and a piece of the dashboard fell down. soon another piece dropped, and we lost the dashboard function. we had this repaired, and i had to tape the dashboard back together the best i could. this could have had a serious outcome. had several other pieces drop ,and i had tot ape it again. this was an ongoing problem that should be addressed.*ak

2001 dodge ram dash parts fall out that are sharp and my cause problem with internal dash components or hurt someone riding in the vehicle. the pieces fall out about everytime i drive the truck . i have a 5 year old son that i cannot let ride in the truck because of the fear of airbag failure or him touching the dash and getting cut by sharp edges from pieces that have cracked out. nothing has been done to fix this problem by me or dealer . i feel this is a factory defect and they should be made accountable for its only the right thing to do ... *tr

This summer the dash on my 2001 dodge ram 1500 truck cracked while driving the truck. the truck had only about 35,000 miles on it when the dash cracked. the crack is from the windshield to the end of the dash. i have read on the internet that is is a problem whit these dodge trucks. *nm

Dashboard cracked all over and pieces falling out. *tr

Dash cap on 98 -2002 1500- 3500 dodge trucks dash caps start cracking al over from left to right made out of plastic these are faulty and dodge knows it or they would not stock them. and charge you 460.00 for that piece of plastic something should be done about it. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500. the contact observed two small cracks around the vents attached to the dashboard. two months later cracks were present near the windshield on both sides of the dashboard and in the center with exposed wires. the dashboard was replaced at the contact''s expense. also, the air conditioner failed and was repaired at the contact''s expense. the contact filed complaint # 16254734 on may 1, 2007 with dodge due to news broadcast stating that the dashboards on the vehicles were cracking. the current mileage is 60,000, and failure mileage was 40,000.*ak updated 05/21/07 *tr

Dashboard cracked so bad it's not safe. *tr

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 pickup that in 2005 a crack started from the windshield to the front of the dash and then a few months later another crack and then the whole dash started caving in and now there is not really a dash left and everything under it is exposed to the elements . *tr

Large cracks began appearing on the dashboard at 57,000 miles. two of these cracks run across the entire surface length (from fwd back). vehicle now has 95,000 miles. i am unsure of the structural integrity of the dashboard components that are not visible, and the hazard they may pose to vital vehicle systems located there in. *tr

The entire dashboard cracked in numerous places, and even though the truck has less then 37000 miles on it the dealers are telling me that it can not be repaired without a recall. *tr

Dash board in 2001 dodge ram is completely falling apart. started only 3 years after owning truck. this is completely ridiculous! truck has been pretty good other than dashboard, but i feel like dodge needs to do a recall on these things. *tr

2001 dodge 1500 quad cab i called the daimler chrysler in marshall texas and they told me they have seen a few of the dashboards. i explained it was crumbling. he told me it wouldn't hurt anything as the air bags are bolted in he also stated it was out of warranty. i called the main customer 800 service line that tx dealer gave to me and once again i was told it was out of warranty and they didn't care who i contacted after i talked to them as it was out of warranty. i even told them i would call the better business bureau and they still didn't care. the dashboard has cracks running across the entire board. will it fall? will it cause an accident? i have pictures that i will be sending when i hear from you. *jb *sc

I'm an filing this complaint pertaining to my 2001 dodge ram, in which the dash fell apart piece by piece on its own. *jb

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 that i've owned 6 years. after about a year the dash started to crack on its own. i progressively got worse to the point that large pieces were falling under the dash frame. i've taken the truck it the dodge dealer several times and they said that it would cost me around $800 to have it replaced. to me this is a safety hazard in that the already loose pieces as well as other that would brake off in a wreck could cause bodily harm, mostly to the face and eyes. *tr

Cracked dashboard on a 2001 dodge ram 1500 the dash started to crack about 2 years ago then pieces started to break off i glued the pieces back together but now their are other cracks if i was to get into a wreck i would not want any of these pieces coming back and hitting me or my family. dodge should issue a recall because i am not the only one with this problem. *tr

Purchased new 2001 dodge ram paid cash pmt for it 28,000 also a chevy truck mind you never no big issues with the chevy on the other hand the dodge issue after issue now the serious problem cracked collapsing dashboard i use only meguire products o the dodge take excellent care of it i am very disappointed that daimler chrysler is not fixing these problems there is a big history of this issue with the 01 i see they do not back up the name dodge when i am ready for a new truck again i highly doubt look at another dodge truck even though they are pretty trucks but like i said i have had a big history of issues on my ram for it being bought new disappointed dodge ram owner and this ram has been taken very good care of. *tr the consumer also stated the heat stopped working and the engine consumed excessive amounts of oil and there was no warning to indicate there was a problem. updated ivoq 03/11/11

The dashboard of my 2001 dodge ram 1500 has fallen in on itself. one day as i was driving a crack started. a few months later one piece fell in and 2 years later most of the dash is broken down. there are shards of broken plastic everywhere under where it was located. there are no old parts available as all of that model have the same problem. if there is ever a crash sharp shards of plastic will be flying everywhere. there is no recall on the defective parts that i can find. parts that i can find are $300-$500 in cost which i will not pay in that excess. if i could find it for $100 i would replace it. *tr

2001 dodge ram 1500, purchased new by my inlaws in florida in 2001 and garage kept 80% of the time. i purchased the truck in november 2004 with 56000 miles on it. drove it back to virginia, where it was also garage kept. i noticed one small, about 1", crack in the dashboard on the passenger's side one month later. by april, several cracks formed all over the dashboard and around the air bag. i contacted the dealer, and they said there was nothing they could do because the vehicle was out of warranty, and gave me chryslers 800 number which i called and filled a complaint, but that was all they woudl do. i could not afford the $1500 to replace the dashboard as i was still making payments on the vehicle. once pieces of the dashboard started to fall out shortly, there after, i installed a dashc over, partially for the asthetics, but also because i was afraid of what the fragile crumbling dashboard would do in an accident, especially if the airbag went off. flying shards of sharp plastic did not sound good to me.*ak

The dash board in my 2001 dodge 1500 is cracked so bad that chunks are starting to fall in and leaving behind very sharp edges. someone is going to end up cutting themselves and dodge is doing nothing about it even though it has been reported to them as a problem. *tr

I would officially like to file a complaint regarding the cracking of the dashboard and fading paint the 2001 dodge ram with only 32,800 miles. this happened right after the warranty expired, and i felt this to be a manufacturer's defect ,and the dodge dealer will not repair it. *ak

A seriously cracked and dangerous dash board. 2001 dodge ram 1500. have to run with the air bag off in fear of the air bag going off and sending shrapnel through my children. *tr

There was no event leading up the the failure, its my dash board in my 2001 dodge ram truck. i noticed that my defroster will not work from time to time. i called dodge to find out if there was a recall they say no. im worried that the airbags will not work and i know of some people that there lights and mirrors will not work. *tr

Dashboard started cracking and broke all to pieces. *tr

The dashboard of my truck has been cracking for the last 2 years to the point that pieces of it have fallen through. the result is a dashboard that is in pieces, may cause flying missiles during an impact and is also cosmetically unpalitable. i am contacting dodge for a replacement but have had no luck so far. *tr

Just filing this complaint of the dodge ram dash. it has fell to pieces, some of the pieces are football sized. if you type in dodge ram dash on google, you will find a ton of forums with people having the same problem. talked to dodge customer service and was told they could not help me with any thing. it seems with all the people having the same problem, it is a manufacture defect in the plastic. i have a 2001 ram 1500 now with 91,000 miles. when i bought the truck it had 39,500 miles and a small crack in the dash. now there is hardly a dash left. i just hope that a piece of plastic does not fall through and make the airbag deploy or not deploy when it should. thanks, mad dodge owner. *tr
