I purchased a 2001 dodge ram 1500, used, in 2005, with approximately 45,000 miles. there was a small crack in the dash board on the passenger side, located at the base of the front window. the cracks have been growing steadily. now the entire dash board is cracked with multiple cracks, from the base of the window to the trim surrounding the gauges. i am concerned that the cracks will continue and cause issue with the passenger side air bag. additionally, i am concerned that the dash will start to break or fall into the wiring under the dash, possibly causing serious damage and or fatalities due to a fire or something. i only have 56,000 miles on the vehicle! *jb

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 with cracks in the dash around the area where the passenger airbag would deploy. in investigating repair options for this i have discovered a significant number of owners are experiencing the same problem and chrysler is ignoring this problem even though notified many times. it is so prevalent that in less that one hour i found 20 cases of the same exact form letter being sent to individuals who had notified chrysler. somebody needs to jerk chrysler back into reality with a significant problem - when the airbag goes off , plastic dash shrapnel flying everywhere is not a good thing! *jb
The failure of the plastic dashboard in my 2001 dodge ram 1500 is a safety issue. there was not any particular event leading to its failure. one day i was cleaning the inside of the windshield and did not notice the large crack until i sliced my arm on it. it concerns me that this injury occurred while the vehicle was not in motion. i can not even imagine the injuries that could occur at high speeds from the faulty plastic. the fact remains that no recall has been issued on the current plastic as well as the "replacement dash." i mean a replacement dash that will eventually crack and inflict the same injuries as before. *tr
Cracked dashboard. *tr
I own a 2001 dodge ram that the top of the dashboard is cracking badly. i have heard of several others with the same problem. i asked my local dealer and they said that dodge would not repair as a recall. also a new dashboard is around $330.00. i have also heard that it will get worse and collapse. if there are several thousand complaints why won't they recall them? *tr

My company owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500 pickup truck. purchased it used approximately 3 years ago and within a short time dashboard started cracking and caving in. i thought mine was an isolated problem, but i did research and found many complaints about the dodge pick trucks doing this. it is not under warranty by dodge but it should, with so many complaints with the same problem.some of the complaints said wiring were severed and electrical problems from the cave ins. my is now very serious and i am afraid the same problems will occur from this. dodge is aware of this problem but has no recall. i want dodge to replace this as soon as possible at their expense. they should take responsibility for the safety hazards from their vehicles. I am repeat dodge customer. however, i have recently become concerned about my dodge ram 1500. the dashboard has cracked and is now currently falling through in several laces. immediately above the steering column a large chunk of about six inches wide and 8 inches long fell through the dashboard, through the electrical wiring and onto the accelerator pedal. this sharp piece could have caused an injury had i not been wearing work boots. as my daughters have on occasion driven this vehicle i have become concerned for their safety due to the potential of electrical wiring damage and/or airbag deployment problems. i urge someone to push for a recall before sharp items disfigured someone in an accident or a fire is initiated due to nicked wires. my confidence in dodge has truly diminished due to their disregard nd unconcern on this matter. *jb

Numerous cracks and chips on the dash of my 2001 dodge ram 1500. i recently watch a news clip on this issue where a lady had her electrical components working improperly and her lights went out when she was driving at night. this could have led to a serious accident. the report attributed the problem to the dash being open to the heat of the sun or a plastic piece may have interrupted the wiring. this seems to be a problem with this vehicle and i would like dodge to repair or replace this for customers at little or no cost. this is a defect that could cause an accident and they should take responsibility for the defective dash. the news channel was local news 6 out of orlando, fl. *jb updated 01-14-08. *kb updated 12/12/07

1) unknown of what event lead up to this problem 2) the dash board on my 2001 dodge truck has several cracks that have appeared over the las 6 -10 months. i have researched the internet and have found may entries where other people are having the same problem with their truck. the dealerships are telling people that that the dashboard is not a recall item and that nothing can be done about as far as the dealers stand point. as far as i can tell this problem is isolated to just dodge products and they need to be forced to make this right. *tr
