2001 dodge ram 1500 dash cracked! *tr

Since approximately, nov 2009, the entire dash of this vehicle has been slowly cracking and deteriorating, several pieces have fallen inside the dash which make retrieveing the broken pieces impossible. there are holes in the dash as well as numerous cracks, my concern is this ongoing issue will lead to a major collapse of the dash driving down a road, and or the unretrievable pieces rubbing on wires and causing a short resulting in a fire. i have tried to reason with daimler chrysler corp, but all i get is there is nothing we can do. i have never had such a issue with the dash cracking and deteriorating that this is a concern as well as a safety hazard for myself as well as other dodge owners. (the area i am trying to describe is from the top of the dashboard clear to the windshield ) all i would like to do is get the dash replaced, so i can pass this vehicle on to one of my kids without worries of any further incidents thanks for your time, i look forward to discussing this matter with you. *tr

The dash has developed several large/long cracks which are growing and the clear coat is peeling on the hood, cab top, front fenders. i had my local dealer check w/chrysler and the claim was denied. i have been a chrysler owner since the 1960's and have never had this type of problem. i doubt i will ever purchase another chrysler product since the quality has deteriorated and the manufacture will not correct the problems. this truck was purchased new in 2000 and i still have. my last new purchase in 2010 was a ford automobile which has so far be excellent. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the glass shield on the instrument panel fractured. the gauges were still operable yet they were exposed. the vehicle was not inspected or repaired for the failure. the failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage 64,000. updated 11/11/10 *bf the entire plastic part of the dash cracked and fell a part. updated 11/18/10*jb

Like many others, the dash fell apart...you aren't doing a thing about it until what? someone dies? 2001 dodge ram 1500 truck. everyone i talk to knows someone whose truck did the same thing. if we are in a wreck and the airbag doesn't deploy due to the support system being missing....falling apart totally....then if we die, will something be done to make chrysler stand good for the repairs? i have contacted them and they want us to pay 800 for our part. no...it is their widespread defect and we will not pay a penny. we have had a fire in the dash as everything is open to the elements now....we had to stop on the side of the road and crawl up under and find the wires burning. whenever you turned on the key, it smoked and burned. finally, after the truck was towed home, he traced the wire to the heated mirrors and removed it. waiting for the next fire, i guess. what a shame for chrysler to take bailout money and not help customers and ensure their safety. will someone please step up????? *tr

Dashboard crack last week my wife noticed that the dashboard on my 2001 dodge ram 1500 extended cab was cracked . we seem to think it may have occurred quite a while ago but was never noticed before . *tr

Cracked dash on 2001 dodge ram 1500 . shards from dash can cause electrical problems and/or airbag problems. *tr

2001 dodge ram 1500 dash shattered and caved in causing electrical lighting problems (intermittent headlights, et al). *tr

I bought a used 2001 dodge ram 1500 ext. cab 1/2 ton pick-up truck in december of 2008 and my dash boards had no cracks in it at that time ,but my dash board is now cracking and collapsing. as far as i know dodge does not have a recall at this time. but there is alot of problems with the dash boards cracking and collapsing onto the electrical wiring causing shorts. from either exposure to sun light or the parts of the dash boards falling onto the electrical components is causing problems due to inferior products being used to make the dash boards. is there anyway to make dodge fix this problem? *tr

Dashboard of my 2001 dodge ram 1500 is cracking all over. i am worried that the airbags will not function correctly if needed. head lights are no longer staying put, if i hit a bump they move. *tr

I currently own a 2001 dodge ram 1500. since owning the vehicle the dashboard has begun to crack in numerous places for no reason. dodge refused to recall the vehicle, even though hundreds of other dodges have had this same issue. also from news broadcasts about this issue electrical problems have developed which can cause major vehicle safety issues. *tr

The dashboard of my 2001 ram 1500 pickup recently started cracking for no apparent reason. the cracks were straight line cracks from the screw holes on the passenger side and not the spiderweb type that result from exposure. yesterday a piece broke off over the ventilation intake and fell into the dash and suddenly black smoke began pouring out of the vents. a travel fire extinguisher had to be emptied into the vent system to keep the cab from becoming engulfed. chrysler says there is no recall even though i have found hundreds of complaints about this same problem. if one of my friends did not have the extinguisher in their car this might have ended with loss-of-life - mine. the vehicle smells like smoke whenever it is started and i am concerned that it will catch fire again if i attempt to drive it. *tr

The dashboard on my truck started with massive cracking and has now fully collapsed. online research shows that many have experienced the same problem with the same make and year of the vehicle. i've called dodge and they claim that since there is no official recall, and the truck is no longer under warranty, there is nothing they can do. i do not believe that an entire collapse of the dashboard is normal and is a manufacturer's defect. this, of course, can then exposes the instruments and wires underneath to the extreme heat which has additional safety concerns. *tr

Purchased 2001 dodge ram 1500 as new. in summer of 2009 dashboard started to crack in numerous areas. we placed duct tape on it. however, this did no good, as the cracks have gotten bigger and the center of the dashboard has a big crater in it. it's only a matter of time until the dash literal breaks to pieces. a $30k truck should be better equipped with quality material. at one point will the integrity of the air bag be compromised! this is a risk to all 2001 dodge ram 1500 owners and should be recalled before someone gets seriously injured or killed from flying parts. this is also a costly repair depending on where you live, it is between $900 - $2000. *tr

The dashboard cracked and now has a hole in it. i contacted my local dodge dealer and they would not offer any assistance with the replacement of the dash. the dash cracking and failure could lead to electrical issues as seen with other dodge ram 1500's. *tr

My dash board began cracking and falling apart. finally, just caved in when heater core was being replaced. i cut myself and nearly burnt myself by the heater core trying to get the pieces out. this is a major hazard!! *tr

Dashboard is falling apart. *tr

Dash is collapsing. *tr

Dashboard on 2001 dodge ram 1500 is cracking. no specific event precipitated the failure. a cloth dashcover was placed on top of the dash in an attempt to minimize injury if pieces of the dash would be disloged in a crash. the passenger air bag is in the area of the cracking and there is concern that an air bag deployment would also propel sharp pieces of the cracked dashboard towards the passengers in the vehicle. *tr

My dash in my 2001 doge ram 1500 has caved in. all my wiring is exsposed to the sun. it hasnt caused to big of a short yet but why wait til someone gets killed before you take care of the problem. you can look my truck is not the only one. *tr

Dash board is falling a part in my dodge pickup truck. *tr

The dash of my 2001 dodge ram 1500 is cracked and broken so badly that it is a serious safety concern in a crash. during airbag deployment, or the forces incurred during a crash, shards of plastic from the dash can strike the occupants causing serious injury or death. this is a widespread problem among dodge ram trucks of this date range. it is such a widespread problem, in the interest of occupant safety, dodge should recall and replace the dashes. *tr

2001 dodge ram 1500 vehicle dash is cracked to where is loosely attached on the passenger side. dash constantly rattles. this seems as though it will interfere with the passenger airbag since the dash is cracked around it. plastic dash trim ring is also beginning to crumble which may be a safety issue in the future. dash has been this way for several years but is beginning to grow worse at a much quicker rate. *tr

The dash panels on my 01 dodge 1500 ram quad cab truck have cracked and are falling apart. the holes in the dash have exposed wiring and electrical components. it appears the molded plastics used in the dash panels are deteriorating over time due to the sun's heat and rays. i suspect, like polypropolene tubing, all dashes made of this defective plastic will desinigrate. anyway, after some research it seems that a aftermarket dash cover is the best remedy, however i'm concerned about the sharp edges of the old dash panel could cut some wiring over time and cause a vehicle fire. *tr

My dash has been cracking out over the last year . the cracks look identical to pictures of other dodge truck dashes i've seen on the internet and news. i and so many other owners are experiencing cracks that a safety recall should be issued immediately before someone is seriously injured because of the faulty plastic used on all these dodge trucks. *tr

Dashboard of 2001 dodge ram 1500 suddenly began to crack in several places. *tr

Vehicle's dash board is cracking, presumably due to sunlight and possibly lack of uv inhibitors in the plastic. there are several cracks and open holes above the instrument cluster. this causes a hazard because various wiring and electronic components, including airbag systems, are located under the dash panel. sunlight could cause harm to the wiring and inadvertent spills by occupants could compromise the various systems contained in the dashboard. *tr

The dashboard had one crack in it when it had about 38,000 miles, then at about 40,000 miles the dash started cracking worse and now at 52,000 miles it has cracked so bad there are large pieces of the dash broken completely out of it. this is a very common problem with 98-06 dodge ram's and dodge knows about the problem. my main concern is with the large pieces being broken out. if you get into an accident large pieces of the dash could go flying and injure someone or when and if the airbag deploys the force of that could cause these pieces to go flying or more pieces to break off and go flying, which could be very dangerous in a collision. *tr

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 sport model. the dashboard began to crack last summer. it only has 83,000 miles on it and i keep it under a garage. i believe it will continue to crack until it falls in. i am afraid this could lead to serious safety problems. there are many people having the same problem. at this time dodge will not do anything to help. i believe this is a design problem. *tr

2001 dodge ram dash board falling apart , not only are me and my family in danger because of wiring failure but my daughter literally cut her hand on the cracked plastic. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the dash assembly for the instrument panel failed and caused the controls to collapse inward into the dashboard. in addition, the air bag on/off switch was attached to the panel, the headlamp switch, instrument cluster, and other controls. the contact was concerned that the failure could cause electrical issues and prevent the air bags from deploying or operating correctly. the dealer was no longer in business. the contact stated that the failure has been occurring since 2009 and was initially informed that it was a cosmetic issue with the vehicle. the manufacturer was informed again of the failure and stated that since the vehicle was sixteen years old with 240,000 miles, it could not be serviced by them. the failure mileage was 110,000. *bf the consumer stated the failure had been ongoing since 2005. in 2005 the failure was not considered a safety defect, but now that it is the vehicle is out of warranty due to age. *js

Dodge dashboard falling apart on my 2001 dodge ram 1500. *tr

2001 dodge ram dashboard - i am the owner of a 2001 dodge ram pickup. my dashboard has caved in and apparently, this problem is pretty common with this year and make. in addition to the wiring all now being exposed, i am now concerned about the extent of the damage in relation to its' proximity to the air bag on the passenger side of the vehicle. due to the total exposure in the area of the vehicles' placement of the dashboard, which is now non-existent, it could possibly endanger a passenger's life while riding on that side, unless i turn the airbag function off. this apparently is a major defect in the dodge line. there are indications throughout the website, but also specifically listing that there is no recall to date. i was told the same thing when i contacted my dodge dealer locally. *tr

2001 dodge pickup . got in one morning and the dash was cracked. it had not been driven for a least a week . no apparent reason for this. got in the truck another day and there were two more cracks. to this date the truck still only has 18,000 miles on it. i think dodge should replace these dashes. 8/11/09. *tr

My 2001 and my fathers 2002 dodge ram pickups both our dashboards are completely cracked and now have cracked the 2002 windshield and are a complete danger if airbags go off will cause shrapnel to fly and cause injury or death chrysler was contacted of both vehicles and they denied there was any problem. going over forums and online there are thousands of people with the same problem and dodge must be held accountable for this. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the entire dashboard was fractured, leaving sharp edges accessible. the dealer was contacted and advised the contact to replace the dashboard. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, no repairs were performed. the current mileage was 125,000 and the failure mileage was unknown.

Vehicle manufacture defect dash is cracking apart. *tr

Dash cracking. *tr

The dashboard of my 2001 dodge ram 1500 and my brother's 2001 dodge ram 1500 as well have severe dashboard cracks. the cracks have gotten so bad that there are now large holes in the dash and shards of jagged plastic covering my entire dashboard. i thought this was a local problem then i found that there are hundreds of other complaints as well. *tr

Dashboard started to crack near defrost vents. eventually they worked their way up. driver side is cracked and there is a hole in the middle of the dash. passenger side is cracked all the way up to the top of the airbag housing. there is also a hole on that side as well. i feel this is a safety issue that if the airbag goes off on the passenger side. the plastic pieces fill fly around inside the cab causing injury. *tr

I own a 2001 dodge ram 1500, and the dashboard is completely falling apart from cracking. i have had erratic electric problems, which is probably due to wires being severed or frayed by dash pieces, and my biggest fear is the passenger airbags. who is to say that the airbag isn't damaged, either from sharp dash pieces or sun exposure? this is a safety issue! *tr

Dash board cap was cracking, then collapsing, and now has fallen in. *tr

The dash is cracked to the point that it surrounds the passenger air bag if it were to ever be used there would be sharp debris from the dash in large and small pieces it could seriously injure someone plus you can not find a replacement from the dealership. *tr

Purchased the truck used, but after reviewing websites and forums realize that this is an issue and i would like to be counted in the number of complaints of cracks across the dash board. approximately 20 inches long across the top instrument panel side of the dash. *tr

I have a 2001 dodge 1500 pickup with a dashboard that is breaking apart and i'm concern with the sharp edges in the cab and how effective my airbag will be if deployed. *tr

Major cracks appeared on the passengers side dashboard. there are two significant crack in the dash that extended within one day. yesterday no crack in dash, today two major ones. concerned that the damage will not cease and may crack in other areas possibly exposing electrical components or become unsafe for pass agers where there are sharp shards. *tr

The dash is falling apart it is hard to get the warm air onto the windshield to defog or melt snow and see clear. *tr
