I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 truck. my dash board has started to crack severely. after reviewing complaints about this happening to other owners of dodge trucks on the internet i felt that i to should in from safercar.gov. there are concerns of large pieces of the dash board cracking at once and severing electrical wiring that can cause electrical shorts and maybe fire. i would appreciate it if your department could help all the dodge owners around the country. thank you *tr

I own a 2001 dodge ram 1500 regular cab sport. my dash has several cracks which many intersect creating sharp points. i have about an 8-10" hole in my dash. my dash began cracking about 4 or 5 years ago and has continued getting worse. there are 2 other dodge ram 1500 regular cabs, 1 being a 1999 and the other a 2001 and they are both cracked as well. no holes in them, but are getting worse. *tr

My 2001 dodge ram 1500 dash board and bezel have severely cracked. it is obvious that dodge has used inferior materials (plastics) in making these trucks. this is a safety issue. if the air bag ever deploys shrapnel will fly! when the cracks first happened i did complain to our local dealership. the truck, at the time, was covered under warranty. all i received from the service department was a "sorry we can not help you because the part is not under a recall." this truck is well maintained and this should not have happened. i feel taken advantage of and along with many others want answers to this problem with a solution from dodge. *tr

Hello: this complaint deals with the cracking dashboard on the 2001 dodge ram 1500 slt. the cracks really started and became noticeable when the truck had 30,000 miles on it. now there are several large cracks and a large hole in the dash. this truck is not used offroad.... it mostly sits. right now it only has 42,000 miles on it. i have checked on the internet and found this is not an unusual problem.... many owners have this problem. i have contacted the main dodge website....twice.... they act like this is no problem and they have not heard of such issues. i checked my local dodge dealership.... they way they talked.... they were aware of the issue. i know there is not a lot they can do.... the help will have to come from headquarters. to me.... dodge should take care of this problem. especially if they get bailout money basically from me and other taxpayers. thank you for your time and help. god bless..... *tr

I have incurred the dash of my 2001 dodge ram 1500 cracking for approximately the last three years. it has very sharp pieces and is continuing to break. my dealership said that it could be fixed at a very expensive cost. i do not feel that it is up to the consumers of the dodge pickups to have to fix this at their cost. i know of several others in my home town that also drive the 2001 dodge ram and they have incurred the same problems. *tr

Since dec of 2004 i have had my transmission replaced 3 times on this vehicle, the last time i was on a highway when it "blew" and was told by several ppl that i was very "lucky" it didn't catch fire, l know of many others who have owned these trucks and have had similar transmission problems!! i also have had my spare tire cable break while the truck was on a roadway, and my spare tire when rolling down the road behind me, by the grace of god...no cars were coming, in addition, i have a severely cracked dash, i am having to have the heater core replaced...smoke coming out of the vents...when the core is replaced, the dash will have to be replaced also, due to the condition of the dash!! dodge needs to do something about these vehicles! *tr

The dash board on my 2001 dodge quadcab pickup truck 1500 is severely cracked. this is not the normal cracking that you may expect to see through normal wear and tear. it is a defect in the equipment. large gaping holes all over the dash. if the un-attached cracked sections were removed there would be no dash at all. *tr

Cracks in plastic of dashboard,instrument panel,and the glove box hinges, started developing as soon as i bought it. i got a dash cover to try to help but it didn't. it is now 90per cent shattered and in pieces laying on the electrical parts inside the dash. if i get in a crash these sharp pieces will go flying. will the airbag deploy because of bad plastic? *tr

Dash started cracking about four years ago with a mileage of 55000. dash was replaced at owners expense two years ago when dash had colapsed. one year later the dash began to crack once again and i learned of many other poeple with the same problem. i was reluctant to spen 1000 dollars to replace it again. since then the dash has colapsed again but this time spall peices cut some wires under the dash causing the headlights not to work. this is an extreme safety issue and dont know what would have happened had i been on the highway doing 65-70 mph when the lights went out. reading the number of complaints i feel the dash is defective and a safety concern. chrysler shoud recall vehicles to correct problem. *cn

I bought my dodge ram 1500 in 2000 brand new actually the truck is 2001 got it one year ahead. if i remember like around 2004 four years after i bought the truck i noticed some cracks on the dashboard then by 2005 the dash was completely gone everything fall down inside, i can even hear the pieces all the time when i am driving. i never wanted to take the pieces out and up to this date most of the dashboard is still inside the dash in pieces. a year ago i noticed that when my ac is on the air keeps shutting down but its not the ac that gets off is the vents that closes, i can even hear when they open back then i start to feel the air blowing again. i don't know if because all the dash pieces are inside on top of the vents and maybe some of the got inside the vents or something. i also bought the cup holder because it fall in pieces as the dash. also the sunglasses compartment door its broken so i don't use it any more because i can close it. i bought a dash cover because the replacement for the dash its very expensive. even the aftermarket one are very expensive. i wish i could have my dash replace, dodge needs to step up on this and fix the problem because i am not the only one, its every single truck out there with the same problem. i hope to hear soon that there's a recall for the dashboards. *tr

2nd time dash has cracked, this time glove box has fallen off do to hinge braking. i repaired the glove box with a kitchen cabinet hinge and the numerous cracks are being covered with epoxy to keep the pieces form blowing up in my face as i drive. *tr

I have 2 2001 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. and both dashes look like a bomb went off. one of my trucks i was driving and all of the sudden i hear boom almost causing me to get into a bad accident, thank god i could go into the ditch and stop the truck. but long story short both my dashes are bad and no one wants to assume any responsibility over it. i have been forced to park both trucks because i'm scared to drive them. one blew up so bad that it caused the windshield to crack. *kb

Purchased a 2001 dodge ram from local dealer, and didn't have it 6 months and noticed the dash cracked and came apart. took it to the local dealer several times and asked to fix. they refused, stating it was not a recall and it was due to sun. i tried to tell them that the windows are tinted and it is garage kept when not in motion, but they refused to answer. now it is on several automotive blogs and sites all over the us with hundreds of people with the same issue with the same year truck package. it is now broken so badly its causing failure to defrost the front windshield and several electrical issues including the headlights going out while driving, speakers cutting off and interior lights going out randomly. it has now cracked so that the heat and air is no longer routed correctly and is causing poor driving conditions. my wife backed into another vehicle because of this... they want 1000 dollars to fix and parts are hard to find. *tr

Dash board cracked from heat. this is a three year old vehicle it has no businesss with a cracked dashboard. my windows are tinted dark and i use a sunvisor! i owned a kia, yes a kia, for 7 years and had no problems with the dash. i know about 6 other people with dodge ram 1500's with cracked dashboards from about 1999 to 2001. i called dodge they would not do anything and want $280 to replace the dash with another one that is not going to hold up to the heat! obviously there is a problem and like the others reported here dodge has done nothing.*ak

I want to complain about the dash cracking and falling completely apart. i have sharp pieces sticking out everywhere and if i hit something and the air bags came out they would pop. you can see in my engine. i'm also scared if some pieces fell into my engine it could tear up something. mostly worried about mine and my passengers safety. why was this not on a recall list? i have read that it is a defect for this year dodge. *tr

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 truck. a few years ago, i noticed that the dash on my truck was cracked. fast forward a few years and it's busted into a dozen or more pieces. i just thought is was just my bad luck until i went to the internet to see about getting a replacement and discovered that virtually every 2001 dodge truck has this same problem, some worse than mine. it appears that despite all the complaints that have been made, chrysler refuses to take responsibility or do anything to rectify the problem. i don't know it this qualifies as a safety issue, but the airbag is inside the dash along with all the wiring, a/c, etc. that is now exposed. perhaps there is nothing that can be done except not buy their poorly made products in the future. *tr
