Problems with 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 STRUCTURE

The dashboard has came all apart. from 1998 to 2004 this has been a night mare for owners. i will not buy another dodge for safety reasons people could be struck while driving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr

The dash in my dodge ram 1500 truck began with a hairline crack at about 40,000 miles. i began by taking it to the dodge dealer, who said the regional service manager would call me. no one ever called back. since then, the dash as literally fallen apart. the immediate safety issues are (1) the air bag and its ability to deploy, and (2) pieces of the dash flying apart and into occupants in the event of a motor vehicle accident. i have emailed chrysler; after chrysler's 2nd reply, no one would respond via email. i have called chrysler's toll free customer support phone line. i spoke with a very young and adamant young man, who refused to budge on the reply i obtained via email. he eventually terminated the converstation by hanging up on me. neither party (email or toll free support line) were interested in actually seeing digital photos of the problem. the phone support rep, when told of my safety concerns, simply responded that if i thought it was such a big deal that i should go ahead and replace the dash myself. some answer! i did stop by the dealer (again) this afternoon and gave me a piece of the dash in the erstwhile hope that the new service manager will begin to work this problem. please help. i am very frustrated and quite surprised at the total lack of chrysler customer care. i can afford to replace the dash at my expense (luckily), but am torn because of chrysler's refusal to "do the right thing" and replace this unsafe defective part.what do you suggest i do?if you want the digital photos, i can send these as well.*ak

I have a 99 dodge ram 59xxx miles. the dashboard is cracked in multiple places. the truck has a dashmat and have always been parked under a canopy. i never put armor all on the dash.(in a forum this is what some said what caused the dash to crack). i've had 3 to 4 company vehicles in 11 yrs and never had this happened. i refuse to pay the dealer $800 to $1000 to replace. this happened approx. 2 yrs after i had the truck. *tr

I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 that the upper dash has completely cracked away in large and small pieces. they are sharp & in the event of an accident could become missels or drop into the wiring behind the dash. this is happening from years 1998-2004. the dodge dealer i went to admitted there was a mix-up in the plastic mixture but there was nothing they could or would do.*cw

I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 the dashboard in it is cracking and falling in leaving wires exposed to the hot sun it is cracked all around passenger air bag i don't know if air bag still works the exposed wiring looks like fire hazard and headlight possible head or tail light failure this vehicle only has 60,400 miles on it still a lot of life left in this truck except for the dash problem. the last dodge i will buy unless they stand behind there product good or bad. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the dashboard was fractured on the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that armour oil might have weakened the structure of the dashboard and caused the failure. the contact stated that armour oil was never used on the dashboard. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

I own a 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 which i purchased new in november of 1998. in 2003 the dash board started cracking, and it now looks like a jigsaw puzzle. chrysler said that it was not covered since the warranty was up. every dodge ram from 98-01 that i have looked at has the same problem. i also had the roof of the truck repainted at hill-kelly dodge in pensacola fl in 2004 because it was peeling. the clear coat is now coming off of the roof, and the dealership that painted it said that they could not help me since it was over three years ago. if you could please give me some advice, i would be very grateful. thank you *tr

The dash in my 1999 dodge ram pickup truck has cracked, the cracking started a few months after i bought it. i have looked into replacing it but it is way expensive and have heard other owners of this type of truck have had complaints too. it was brought more to my attention when i saw it on the news last night. i feel if i paid over $18,000 dollars and more from my truck it should not have had a cracking dash months after i bought it. i contacted dodge but they were not willing to fix it because it was considered cosmetic, but if its cosmetic then why is it happening to everybody that owns a dodge ram?? i am scared for the safety of me and my family pieces can fly up if you hit the slightness bump and what if the air bags deploy? *tr

Dash cracking and it may break into small chunks and could put an eye out. dodge should recall from 98 models to o4 models, this seems to be the most reported year models!!!!!!! *tr

The dashboard in the 1999 dodge ram 1500 started developing cracks in it a few years after purchase. i tried to contact the dealer pertaining to this, but was told, "sorry, it was out of warranty". the cracks have continued for the past few years despite purchasing a window shade to screen it from the sun. if the cracks continued, entire pieces will begin to fall somewhere behind the dashboard onto electrical components as well as possibly spread to the passenger air bag.*ak

1999 dodge ram quad cab dashboard developed its first crack on the passenger side above the airbag five years ago. in the past couple of years, the dash on the passenger side is continuing to disintegrate despite using visors to keep as much sun out as possible. the drivers side is also starting to "crumble" around the air vents. *tr

Dash is cracked and it poses a threat of injury either in a minor accident. due to its extent of damage it continues it could affect the proper deployment of the airbag. it could so cause the airbag to become a weapon. in some cases the plastic parts that fall loose from the dash as the dash continues to deteriorate end up in the vent systems and can blow out when the fan is turned on. i wish you would investigate as dodge won't admit it is a defect. when they do install a replacement dash it is also defective and the cycle repeats. dodge needs to help the thousands who are affected by this problem. *tr

While driving at any speed, when the vehicle hit a bump, pieces of the dash board flakes off. there are numerous cracks running through out the dash board. the manufacturer and the dealer are aware of the problem. *ph

Approximately 2 years after the purchase of my then brand new dodge ram 1500, the dashboard began to crack. the cracks continued to grow in size and increase in number until chunks of the dashboard began to cave in and pop out. currently the dashboard is either missing completely in very large sections, or chipped, cracked and caved in others. there is no way that this will not cause, or is a safety issue in an accident, or even just under normal operating conditions. *tr
