Problems with 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 STRUCTURE

99 dodge ram 1500 , dash board has caved in . sharp edges are in plain sight. this could be life threatening if an accident occurs. this dash fell in on itself with no outside help. in other words, it was not damaged by anyone. *tr

I am the owner of a 1999 dodge ram. my dashboard began cracking last year (2005.) the truck isn't that old and i see no reason why it should be cracked as it is... right now i have a huge gaping hole for a dash. i'm also aware many people are having this same problem. the plastic on the dash is very brittle and the slightest bump is just cracking things more and more. dodge needs to step up and do something about this. i feel this is a serious defect in some of their trucks. *jb

I own, since new, a 1999 dodge ram pickup truck. the truck has 57,000 miles and is well taken care of. last year i noticed a crack running along the bottom of my dash. after that, they just kept coming one after another. now i can take it apart like a puzzle . one big piece did come out, leaving a gaping hole. i"m waiting for warmer weather to try to fix it. my concern is ,being that the whole dash is in pieces,how secured is the airbag on the pass. side ? *nm

The dash in this truck has broken to pieces. this is not an issue of sun exposure or climate--it is simply defective materials. now when the truck is driven with the window(s) open sharp pieces of dash plastic fly up hitting the driver and passenger in the face. additionally the electronics for the passenger air bag is now exposed to sun and possible moisture. *tr

Dash has cracked in multiple places. not safe to ride in for any passenger or driver. this has been going on long enough. equipment failure is part of why these complaints are entered here. does no one listen? airbags, sharp corners, electrical failure what more has to happen? *kb

I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 and the dash is completely broken out. i had electrical problems after the piece fell inside dash. right now i just have a piece of cloth over the hole to keep the sun off the wiring. the sharp edges are dangerous if i was ever involved in a crash. *tr

Dt: the contact stated the dashboard disintegrated. the dealership stated there was no recall, and the vehicle was not under warranty. the contact will have to pay for it. this has happened for six months. no repairs have been made at this time. *ak

My dash has 3 cracks in it one from the windshield all the way back, and the others are 1) from the windshield to about 7" back and 2) from the windshield making a large curve about 14" long. both of the two on the passenger side are slowly creeping toward the passenger air bag. there was no actions such as crashes that could have caused this to happen. *nm

The driver noticed that the top of the dashboard, on the passenger's side was cracked. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic determined that the dashboard needed to be replaced. *ak the mechanic also suggested that the problem had been in bind since assembly, popped in several places and he was unable to anything about it at the time. the dash had developed several lengthy cracks and one of the cracks had infringed the drivers side air bag. the consumer was informed by a representative of chrysler that the vehicle was out of warranty and that chrysler would not do anything to help with this problem. *sc

Dash crumbling and falling apart, big chunks just break away when you hit a bump or just touch the dash exposing wires, air ducts and heater core, i've had pieces fly out of air ducts while ac is on, hitting me in the face, i would hate to imagine what would happen if i'm involved in a wreck and an air bag deploy with shards of sharp plastic flying at my face or body, it would be like knives flying at you and stabbing or cutting you severely. this prob started not long after purchasing the truck used, after about 70,000-75,000 miles this problem started, i believe dodge should at least pay for a new dash made with better plastic, i've heard of and know other people with dodges that have the same problem, i've been told but don't know how true it is but supposedly dodge was using defective plastic in the dashes from i think 97 through 05. *tr

Vehicle wheel almost layed down. brand new front tires wore down. *tc the ball joints failed, which caused the problem with the tires. the dashboard cracked and the consumer had it replaced at a cost of $525.00. *jb

I have a 1999 dodge 1500 ram truck. at 38,000 miles the dashboard cracked in one place, then it spread all across the dash. i had a full "after market" warranty but it would not cover it. i called dodge hqs as well as dealers. all told me it was not something they would cover. my only solution was to use "super glue" and put a carpet dash cover over the ugly mess. *ak

Purchased a 1999 dodge 1500 with approximately 49k miles on it in 2004. have had continual problem with dash breaking. it is now to the point that i feel the passenger side airbag will be impaired or even become lethal if it deployed. this appears to be a defect with numerous other owners having the same complaint. dodge has refused to help correct problem. this makes it potentially hazardous for a front seat passenger. i am afraid with the condition of the dash at this point serious bodily injury may occur due to its condition. it almost appears that the default has caused the position of the dash to change subsequently changing the position of the airbag. *tr

Several cracks all along dash board from window seal to front of airbag/vent sections, when i showed the dealer who i bought it from, they brushed me off like i was complaining of cosmetic damage. i consider these cracks a manufacturer defect that hold vital components if i or my passengers were ever in a wreck, my vehicle interior was in excellent condition when i bought it from the used lot in october 2001, i can't say the same for the mechanics. the first day i had to return it for the harmonic balancer, then the emerg brake light stayed on, then the abs brake light which lead to replacement of drums,rotors, and calipers. in feb 2003 i had to take it in for windshield wiper motor burn out, and this last month the waterpump went out. can you advise me as to what is normal wear and tear and what parts aren't supposed to have to be replaced on a vehicle that now has 82,000 miles and regular upkeep? and if the sound of air blowing thru loose metal is what my truck should sound like when i accelerate from a normal stop? thank you for your time,amber. *ak

2 country squire tires lt245/75/16 threw their tread belts for no reason while i was driving. i went to my dealer and wanted to know why. they said there is nothing wrong with the tires. i explained that if these tires had been on the front, i would have been killed and asked them to check with the mfg. they told me they didn't know who the mfg. was and replaced one of the tires with another country squire 245/75/16. the other tire was replaced with a summit tire with similar tread. i paid for both tires. when these tires blew my fender was dented & the shrouds above the tire were destroyed. my mud flaps were torn off. dealer refused to make anything right. tough luck. i still have three of these tires on my pickup. what do i do? these tires had only been on my pickup for four months when i had trouble. *ak
