Problems with 2007 Dodge Nitro FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2007 Dodge Nitro starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 74 387 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2007 Dodge Nitro

Every time i pumped gas into my truck, i get a fuel shower from the fuel shooting back out. it has a dangerous projectile and is nearly impossible to stop. putting gas in my 2007 dodge nitro has become a fear to me. nor was i ever informed of any recall. most recently, it happed 11/29/2019 when i went to fill up again.

When filling gas tank, gas pump clicks for full and gas spills out of the tank all over the ground and person filling the tank. very dangerous as gas is also all over that part of the car. apparently this is a complaint from a lot of people yet there is no recall for this issue.

When i fill the fuel tank the fuel spills out on me, on the car and the ground, this happens every time i try and fill the gas tank. i was on dodge forum and told this happens to all 2007 and 2008 dodge nitros and this is a safety issue. i was told this is a vent valve/check valve default and this valve is supposed to shut down the gas to prevent an explosion in an accident. dodge had a recall for their jeep but never issued a recall for the nitro!! dodge should be responsible for replacing the fuel tank with no cost to me.

At each fuel refill, gas spews out after the pump clicks off at the full stage, very unsafe and messy. gas gets all over my shoes and clothes and the ground

As you fill up vehicle with gas make a clicking sound when full and spill out of tank getting gas on car. this can cause a fire and is hazardous to the environment.this issue has been going on since i purchased this vehicle back in 2007.

Fueling at gas pump , overflows all over the side of my vehicle ! cant fill up the tank to full !!

When filling the gas tank if i do not manually stop the pump before the tank is full, the tank will overflow. this has happened multiple times at multiple stations using multiple pumps. the tank does not allow the pumps to auto shutoff function to work

Electrical problem when pressing unlock button my doors lock instead. my plug outlet no longer works. when rolling down driver window down. passenger window will roll down and up also. my gas cap light has stayed and and gas cap has been replaced.shift solenoid

Everything falling apart on this car. now the horn goes off when its off, on the freeway or just at a stop light, the other thing, when i fill up the gas tank the gas shoots back up.

My truck is have trouble with timps system and it's a 2007 and i seen it was a recall

During refueling my vehicle has been "burping" gas back when near full. at first this was occurring when using the automatic shutoff on gas pump handles, but it continued to do so even when manually operating gas pump handles. after searching through forums with this issue, it appears it's a known fault with the roll-over valve which dodge is correcting at the owners expense. having a known safety defect that causes fuel to spill in quantity (estimating a pint or more) when refueling and the distinct probably that fuel would spill in the event of a roll-over is not something that customers should be forced into paying for.

When filling the gas tank it spews gas out of tank all over the vehicle, ground and anything else that is nearby. this happens every time i fill up the tank as soon as the pump stops.

Truck hesitating to start on & off - consulted with chrysler jeep mechanic who i showed him a video of what i captured when my truck wouldn't start right away, advised me that it didn't sound or look like the ignition, that it possibly was the "external fuel pump relay and harness". truck was left at dealer for several days to allow them time to properly diagnose what may have been going on. because of the quoted price [$435], i suggested to her that i would have my personal mechanic repair it and would like to purchase the actual harness kit which only cost $32.92. part could not be purchased because it was flagged as an "recall". natasha checked w/mike to confirm this info, drop off date was set - asked her - there will be no charge, correct, since this is an recall part? she said no, there wouldn't, that's correct. service tech kenney handed me a invoice for $415 stating there was a charge - which i totally disagreed. once natasha arrived, we discussed this matter in total disagreement since i was under the understanding this was a "recall" part and wasn't expecting to pay as previously discussed. later that day before returning to pick my truck up, i contacted the dodge headquarters & spoke with caitlin. she stated because my truck didn't have any recalls on it, this part did not qualify & if it did, i would've been contacted. i told her i totally disagreed since i only found out during our discussion there was a recall on my truck for the gas tank - and i still have not been contact by mail or phone for that issue. chrysler dealer services dodge & jeep vehicles & this is the only place i can get this part which has been considered a faulty/defective recall part and because i don't own a chrysler, my truck doesn't qualify, but i'm forced to pay for a recalled part?

Once fuel tank reaches it's capacity, gas spits back out overflowing the tank. issue has been going on for awhile.

When filling the tank on the vehicle the nozzle failed to shut off in time to prevent gas from overflowing. filled up again 2 days later at a different pump and set the nozzle for low speed and still overflowed out of the gas tank. upon further research this is a common problems with 2007 dodge nitros and no recall has been issued. however, the jeep liberty which is the sibling vehicle had the same problem and there was a recall to fix the problem. the cause of the problem is a faulty rollover valve and requires the fuel tank to be replaced. *tr

While filling the nitro up when it gets full and the gas pump kicks off there is alot of fuel that comes rushing out of the filler hose and goes all over the truck, ground and myself. have been told that dodge is aware of the issue and has recalled this issue on jeeps but nothing yet on the nitro. this can only be fixed by replacing the entire fuel tank. is dodge waiting on a lawsuit? if the vehicle rollsover and spews gas all over it would not be a good sight if it catches on fire!! please help get this problem recalled before it kills people!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. the contact stated that while refueling, fuel sprayed out of the filler neck onto the ground. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. updated 3/14/13 *cn the mechanic at the dealer informed the consumer it was the same problem jeep had with the roll over valve in the gas tank being defective and it needed to be replaced.

When i am filling my gas tank and it gets to the top and the gas pump shuts off the gas spills out of the tank. i have started to stop pumping when it sounds like it is close to the top and some gas still spills out of the gas funnel. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. the contact stated that when refueling, the fuel tank would spew gasoline back out from the filler neck. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised him that the vent and valve in the fuel tank failed. as a remedy, the entire fuel tank would need replacing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 109,000. the current mileage was approximately 111,000.

I bought my 2007 nitro in october with about 68,000 miles. ever since the first time i filled up my tank gas spits back up out the fuel hose when the pump shuts off. after researching quite a bit i discovered this isn't a new problem, chrysler knows all about it and even had an investigation into it. the inlet valve is faulty and doesn't close correctly, leading to gas spills at the pump and gas spills if the vehicle rolls over, causing the vehicle to ignite. i have been in contact with chrysler the past week or so and they are absolutely refusing to help repair their own manufactures defect. they won't give me an explanation no matter how much i ask and i am getting very frustrated with them. i feel this is a serious safety issue and they are responsible for taking care of it. they don't think so. they said, "after further research into this problem, unfortunately we are unable to help with the costs of any repairs." to fix this you must replace the entire fuel tank - upwards of $1000 that i don't have because i just freakin' bought their vehicle! irresponsible, wow. *tr

Tank overflows everytime i put gas in it. the pump clicks, i pull it out and about a half a tank of gas spews all over me and the car. at times it happens before the pump even shuts off. it happens everytime no matter what gas station i go to. *tr

Fuel tank burps fuel out over the side of the vehicle after fuel pump turns off on a fill up. *tr

Every time i fill up my gas tank, it overflows and spills all over the vehicle and ground. this is a huge environmental and safety risk, as well as a waste of gasoline. i've read online that this is a defect of a rollover detection system. dodge/chrysler needs to do something about this. *tr

Several times, at several gas stations, the gas pump does not automatically shutoff causing gas to overflow. this problem occurs everytime i try to fill up and fill the tank full. *tr

Every time the vehicle is refueled and the pump shuts off at full. fuel erupts from the tank onto the ground, person and vehicle. this could result in a health hazard to personnel but also to the environment as well as the vehicle. chrysler corporation is and has been aware of the problem for some time but has opted to not recall the vehicle unless forced to by the nhtsa. *tr

Gasoline fill pipe overflows after nozzle automatic shutoff. gasoline runs down side of vehicle onto ground causing a hazard and release of excessive gasoline vapors. *tr

When filling the gas tank gas will shoot out of the tank at the pump when it finishes. i don't top of the tank or anything, it just shoots out, probably a quart or more of gas. this happens almost every time i pump gas. it happens at every gas station i've been to. when my mechanic tried discussing it with the car company they stated they knew it was a problem but wouldn't have it repaired. it's a danger to have gas shooting out of the tank at every fill-up and then dealing with gas all over the vehicle and me. *tr

When filling up with fuel, when the auto shut off engages fuel overflows out. i had this issue previously, took it to the dealership and indicated that it is most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a roll over accident. the valve is defective and thus gas spills out. they replaced the fuel tank and it fixed the problem. less than one year later the same problem comes back, but they will no longer take car of it because now it is out of warranty. *tr

Fuel tank does not ventilate, when pumping fuel pump will not automatically shut off, causing fuel to spill over the side of the vehicle, person attending fuel pump, and the ground. *tr

Fuel tank spills fuel when filling up. *tr

When fueling my nitro the gas flowed out of the tank and onto the side of my truck and the ground. it never shut off as it was supposed to when full. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. the contact stated that gasoline fuel spewed out from the filler neck while the contact was refueling the vehicle. the issue occurred whenever the contact would refuel the vehicle. the contact stated that weeks prior to the failure, the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician advised that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 85,000.

Every time the car is refueled on auto it clicks the pump off and spews gas all down the side of the car. dodge complaint dept says they have no recall information on this , yet every 2007 owner i talk to has this problem. we all thought it was just our car that did this. some one is going to pull up to the spot where a nitro was refilled/spilled with a lit cigarette and there will be a sizable fire, if it has not already happened. *tr

Everytime that i fill up i have to watch fuel gauge is because the fuel pump does not pop when it is full until it overflows. this causes gas to get on the ground and all over the vehicle. this is a safety hazard. there are reports on a lot of forums that many people have had the same problem with this happening. *tr

Fuel overflow when filling tank. *tr

The gas always comes gushing out when i fill up my gas tank since i've owned this vehicle. the engine light incessantly stays on and wonder if their is a correlation. i am sick of it, and am afraid that an explosion could occur. i would have filed a report with nhtsa sooner if i'd known of its existence. *tr

My 07 dodge nitro rt has always had an issue while filling up, it doesn't stop like other vehicles and just over flows splashing gas all over the vehicle and floor. my fix for this was just to not fully fill the tank. the other issue i've had for the better part of a year is that i've had a "gas cap" error light that after replacing said gas cap and a trip to pepboys turned out it was a small evap leak caused by a faulty gas tank/innards common in older nitros, in my experience this also causes a hard start. i think this is obviously a manufacturing issue in the gas tank and would like some guidence on a resolve. thank you
