My eleven year old son put the right rear passenger side window down. within 30 seconds of putting the window down, the power window switch and door panel began to smoke. there were large amounts of smoke and a burning smell coming from the door. the door panel became extremely hot causing him to undo his seatbelt and jump across the seat. i immediately pulled over and turned the nitro off killing power to the switch. the switch continued to burn and smoke for more than five minutes after i turned the truck off and got my family to safety. *tr
the window control panel on driver side the two front button broke off. have to replace the whole arm control panel. *tr
Without warning or vehicle hesitation, the motor stalled and i lost all power steering and brakes. fortunately i was in a residential area and i pulled into a driveway and attempted to re-start my vehicle without success. vehicle was towed to the local dodge dealer where they determined the tipm (totally integrated power module) had failed and would have to be replaced at a cost of approximately $625.00 +$85.00 to the towing company. i have also had issues with the wiper relays twice (which are part of safety recall j28) once before the recall under warranty and now had it replaced with the tipm. since the wiper relay is part of the tipm, i wonder if the complete failure of the tipm is related or maybe faulty tipm;s are causing the wiper relay problem.
After filling up my 2007 dodge nitro gas spew out with force on myself and the side of the suv. when unlocking or locking my vehicle sometime the cooling fan and radio will turn on. both of my back windows don't not work. *tr
The wiper blades stopped working during a rain storm and the turn signals wouldn't work, couldn't turn the head lamps off or on.
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. the contact referenced nhtsa recall campaign id number: 09v438000, visibility, windshield wiper/washer. while driving 30 mph in a rain storm the contact stated that the windshield wipers failed to function. she took her vehicle into the dealer when her windshield wipers stopped working. the contact was responsible for paying $155.63 to repair the vehicle; however, the dealer stated that the recall repair had previously been performed in february 2010. she stated that the dealer presented her with a recall letter that she did not receive in the mail. the failure mileage was 38,000 and the current mileage was 42,000.
back brake lights go out continuously. i have had them replaced several times while under warranty. lights are still going out but now my extended warranty is over. dealership said they would have to run a diagnostic test before they could find out what is wrong. this is very concerning because it is a documented problem since the first year i purchased the car in 2007 and the problem still exists. my rear windows stopped working, had to have them replaced which i found odd because i hardly used the back windows. driver's side handle has snapped in half. this makes for a safety issue because i cannot get out of the car without rolling down the window and then unlocking myself then roll up the window before turning off my car. also, the power window control has snapped off as well for controlling the front passenger window. i'm concerned i will be trapped in my vehicle if i continue to lose power functions to the car. heating unit works sporadically. took it to local mechanic he fixed it. it worked temporarily and then stopped. called dealership and once again was told that they would have to perform a diagnostic test; which is understandable if this was the only problem, but unfortunately this is not. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. with the heater settings on the high and low selections, the air that came from the floor vents produced a lot of cold air. the contact stated that there was warm air coming from the vents above. he took the vehicle to the dealer twice. the first time, the vehicle was with the dealer for three days and they were unable to find any failure. the second time, the vehicle was in the shop for approximately three weeks. the contact was informed that the vehicle was not 100% repaired, and the foam placed under the console on the driver side cut down on some of the cold air coming from the vents. a chrysler representative was notified to inspect the vehicle. the contact had an appointment scheduled for april 2, 2008, but it was rescheduled for april 3, 2008. the current mileage was 10,852 and failure mileage was 8,000. updated 04/29/08. *lj the consumer was informed there was a design flaw with the heating system. the consumer stated the vehicle overheated. updated
