Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 1995 Dodge Neon

1995 dodge neon. throttle body. was built without an "o" ring seal. engine gets wet, throttle body ruined. when it gets moisture inside, the car has trouble accelerating. sometimes it does, others it does not. it feels like driving a four cylinder car with three bad spark plucks, the engine misses, and bogs down. bad news if your on the highway and the people behind you want to drive through you because your not going the speed limit. dodge says that since its not a "safety issue* which, it is if you see the people in my rearview driving up to my bumper when it happens, they don't have to replace it, but i can feel free to pay the 450 dollars in parts alone and let them fix their problem. *jb

Chronic engine oil leaks. cylinder head oil leak repaired (including front cam seal, valve cover, spark plug tube, egr, cover tube flange, intake manifold, and throttle body) on 11/26/99 at 82k miles. front cam seal replaced on 12/31/01 at 105k000miles. front cam seal failure on 6/9/02 at 125k miles. failure caused damage to cam shaft. all leaks were potential fire hazards.*ak

The clockspring is not working. the airbag light is on, the horn doesn't work, and the cruise control doesn't work.*ak

Vehicle is losing it's power while driving. when accelerating vehicle will rev up or sometimes just slow down. please provide more information. *ak

Bleeder valve cap cracked, causing fuel to leak from the car. occured 3 different times. oil leak occurred from the head gasket. erratic and difficulty when accelerating.

Throttle position sensor was build without an o-ring. whole throttle body needed to be replaced before repairs could be completed. repairs done at an independent shop. *ak consumer states there was wild spiking of the speedometer. *slc

We are told 1995 neons had a notice calling for a new throttle plate at a 200+ cost unbenounced to the customer this could have been a serious accident driving in traffic and just stopped no warning at all .*ak

Was picking up speed ran off shoulder into gravel, turned to pull back and i could not steer, put on brakes and spun around and around across to the other side of road and turned completely around and was hit from behind.*ak

Vehicle lost power once it stopped or at slow turning speed. gas pedal pushed to floor, and vehicle would only go 2 to 3 mph. after about 10 minutes, power was restored. dealer was contacted, could not find cause. *ak the probllem was reoccuring frequently but the dealer was not able to find the cause of the problem. *yh

Head gasket will cost $600 to repair. had enough problems with this car in the 16 months i have owned it. it is apparent by all the complaints that somthing should be done. so why hasn't it? *ak

Vechicle overheated , was towed to nearest chrysler service center, replaced thermostat. 6 wks later overheated again towed to dealership again, was told it had a cracked head gasket they repalced it. six wks later car stalled while driving 55 mph on interstate again towed dealership could not find a reason for this. 3 wks later same problem again towed this time they said a coil wire was loose.no other problem was found same day i picked up the car it again stalled and had to be towed this time they said some idle steps were out of sync they should have already known this since i just got the car back that day. every time the car was in the shop they could find nothing wrong so they say, i left the car for several days so that a computer co-pilot could be installed and the mechanics could monitor the problem as it happens. this produced no info . the car has run all winter but now that warm weather is here the problem has started again. the car had to be again towed on 3/8/00 still no satisfaction as to why this is happening. have spokken to several representatives from chrysler warranty and manufacturing divisions concerning this and they have on numerous occassions been very rude. the last straw occurred on april 14,2000 while driving to find the exact location of a very important job interview the car broke down 2, i was no where near a phone and could not call for help. i sat in the car for 1 hr tried to restart the car it started but i couldn't trust the vehicle to continue the trip. i had to turn around and head back home , i was driving back home and it stalled again i waited another 1/2 hour it started and i prayed all the way home i would make it safely. each time i have had the car towed i have had to pay $50 as my deductible on my extended warranty and each time they said they couldn't find the problem. i feel very upset and disappointed to think i am paying for such an unreliable car. i will never buy another chrysler product. *ak

While traveling approximately 45mph on narrow road, vehicle veered to side & hit another vehicle. driver (sister) overcorrected into other lane & hit another vehicle head-on, both air bags deployed. driver (sister) died. possibility accelerator pedal stuck. information provided by the brother (eric nelson). *ak

When starting the car will hesitate. while driving the accelerator will not work. dealer contacted, and cannot repair the vehicle at the present time. *ak

When driving about 35 mph, , the throttle switch would pop out, causing vehicle to lose power. *ak

Smoke poured out from steeringcolumn, dealership said wiring under dash were burned. dealer replace harness. air conditioner did not work after the fire, vehicle has been repaired four times for both problems. also vehicle surged forward whenever foot was taken off the brakes. *ak

Within the last 8 months a/c compressor went out; the speed control surged, worked intermittently then stopped functioning; the left rear abs wheel speed sensor failed causing the system to work intermittently; the engine head gasket blew and my rear window blew out and shattered when i closed the door during 00f weather. presently i have had no response from the manufacturer stating the technicality of "out of warranty" "nothing we can do" deaf ears. i would greatly appreciate any assistance or suggestions on how i can proceed to recover some of my costs for repairing so many items that have failed within a short period of time.

As soon as this car hit 36000mls the problems just added up. everytime i turned around something was going wrong this car. chrysler were the worst manufaturer i had ever dealt with and will never buy anything from then again. we had to let the car go back because we could no long afford the repairs on it. the cruise control had to have some thing to do with the computer, and was replacedby myself. the alternator went bad was replaced by myself. the radio went bad was replaced by myself. the transmission had a pin that was not fitted and wore a hole through the transfer case. malfunction!! we could not afford it and did not repair.

Consumer states the o-ring seal was ommited in the throttle body, causing the engine to run erratically, and moisture contamination. the dealer has been notified.

Upon traveling at 15 mph on wet pavement and upon depressing the brake pedal the vehicle acclerated, causing the consumer to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in an accident. consumer states dealer has been contacted. please provide any additional details. *ak

Cruise control was set at 63 mph. coming to brake, did not disengage. pedal got stuck, did not release. rearended vehicle in front. air bag deployed. had seat belt on. vehcile caught on fire. this defect resulted in an accident. *ak

While driving vehicle the throttle stuck and the driver could not control the vehicle. *ak

Sudden acceleration experienced resulting in accident.

While pulling up at a stop light with foot on the brake the engine took off and vehicle leaped forward. vehicle had to be shifted into neutral to stop engine from going. vehicle's throttle body and sensor needs replacing. parts have been ordered. *ak

When driving the vehicle made a squeaky noise. rotors have been replaced at least twice on each side. the brakes have been replaced 4 times. *ak brakes have had a lot of work, brakes have been adjusted and cleaned, brake pads have been replaced 3 times, rotors have been replaced 2 times, calipers have been replaced, brakes have excessive wear. throttle body clogged, causing vehicle to hesitate. battery was replaced due to being weak. check engine light has illuminated. *slc

While driving the vehicle, the accelerator pedal stuck for no reason, tried to brake vehicle while pedal was stuck, drove vehicle to gas station, vehicle stopped after turning off ignition; mechanic unstucked the pedal. *ak

Consumer was driving with cruise control on and car started to accelerate the brake wouldn't cut the cruise control off . please describe .*ak

Soft brakes, master cylinder replaced.

Cruise control fails to disengage and is erratic. *ak

While driving for a long period of time with cruise control activated, the vehicle will stall and be stuck in cruise control, which may cause an accident. dealer replaced fuel pump/spark plugs, etc. dealer cannot determine the problem. please provide further information. *ak

Vehicle accelerated at high speed when cruise control kicked in. tt

Accelerator sticks/does not reduce speed when cruise control is disengaged. *tw

Consumer states the he has been having problems with the anti- lock brake system for over a year. when you braking and turning at the same time, abs activate, causing loss of control/vibration, also replaced master cylinder/accelerator pedal. *ak

The headlights blink when the air compressor is turned on, and when shifting from 3rd thru 5th gear. tt

When come to a stop, vehicle suddenly accelerated, resulting in accident. tt

On the throttle linkages there was some missing and loose bolt . tt
