We have classified the 10 complaints from 1995 Dodge Neon about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
The pcm on my 1995 dodge neon was replaced on june 16, 1994, 2 months after i bought the car. done by jay chevrolet/geo/dodge in island park, ny. my car has been stalling on me and shutting down off and on for the past 5 years. i spent over $4000 to have parts replaced and the car still has the problem. i want my car checked completely free of charge. it has only 110k and it has been cared for since day one. my brother is a mechanic in oceanside, ny and has been my mechanic since i bought it new up until i moved to phoenix, az and all the mechanics i've used here can't fix my car. this is unfair if the problem is the pcm again. the car had complete diagnostics done by 3 mechanics and they can't find anything wrong. pcm does not show in diagnostics. p.s. i filled out my personal info with my current address but will be moving on may 12, 2018 to: 21220 n. 23rd ave phoenix az 85027
Vehicle drives from approx 8 miles before check engine light comes on. then after that the engine sputters and stalls while driving down the road. after several minutes of waiting the vehicle can be driven for a few miles then stalls again. after sitting all night vehicle can be driven for a short distance. oedb2 code reader said cylinder 1 misfire.. replaces spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, checked coil. everything seams to be working fine. vehicle can be ran at idle for very long time with no complications. pcm is bad.... their is a recall in effect but my vin doesn't match up. see recall 94v-033.. been going on for quite some time now. and after ruling everything out it is the pcm... i believe the recall should be re opened to include last 8 vin code st356500. *nm
Dt: the engine light came on. vehicle stalled and shook. took car to re pair shop where it was placed on a diagnostic machine. mechanic said they could not perform any repairs to the car until it was taken to a dealer for recall repairs on transmission control module. took to a dealer for repairs.
I have a 1995 dodge neon. i have had problems with my transmission, etc. and had to have my transmission rebuilt, also replacing my head gasket, resulting in a great deal of money out of my pocket. my mechanic informed me they have seen nothing but problems with the neon. i have talked to several other people who have had or currently own a neon and they have had the same problems. there has never been a recall noted on the neon for the transmission problems. *tr
On august 12th while driving on scatterfield dr, an area of high construction, my 1995 dodge neon suddenly stalled and quit right in the middle of traffic. i had a full tank of gas so i knew that was not the problem and luckily it was a construction area and traffic was moving rather slowly. i was able to pull off the road and the car would not start so i caledl peyton well auto at (765) 644-1111, who on august 11th had just repaired my car for similar problems that included my battery light coming on and then the car may or maynot start.they sent a tow truck to get me. a month earlier the car stalled and just quit and i had it towed to this same dealership who charged me 300.00 to fix the electrical suspension and harness. on august the 11th i was told it was the starter and that cost me another 300.00. after researching the recall list i found recall information # 94v033000 that identifies powertrain control module problems that should be replaced. this was obviously never completed on this vehicle. i am scared to drive the vehicle. the peyton well service advisor ben woodfill stated if anything like this happened again they would fix it for free but this was after telling me that the main harness to the motor needed replacing and that they had found some corrosion on another electical part and cleaned it up on august 12th. my fiance spoke with the service advisor and stated that we were under the impression the problem was fixed the first time when we had it towed in but now they were telling us that it would cost and additional 700.00 to get this so called main harness replaced. it was then that mr. woodfill confered with his manager and they stated they would fix anymore problems like the ones i have had for free. to me this is unacceptable. if they know there is aready a problem then why not go ahead and fix it. don't wait until my car stalls in 65 mph traffic and it is too late. please help!!! *ak
Consumer complained about a clutch problem. when switching out of first gear vehicle made a loud popping sound. consumer did not take the vehicle to the repair shop yet, but will do so soon. *ak
Transmission defective. when put into reverse it made a loud banging noise. shifted harshly from second to third gear. the head gasket blew and had to be replaced. the brakes squealed for no apparent reason. the camshaft seal leaked oil and had to be replaced. also, the valve cover gasket had to be replaced because of an oil leak. *tt
Have had the car (1995 neon) about 1 year - only had 61,000 miles on it and major transmission problems - transmission slips, in rain acts as if the car is going to stall or completely shut off, gets no power in wet conditions either. *nlm
There was a class action suit against chrysler by owners of 1995 dodge neon's regarding engine failure, which resulted in the pcm being replaced.(lawyer on behalf of clients) *ts *jb
Power train control model has a defect. the dealership is aware of problem. consumer will fill in additional information. *ak
Vehicle surges and hesitates intermittently at any speed. a private mechanic has examined vehicle, and stated power train control module was faulty. manufacturer informed consumer that this vehicle was not affected by recall 94v033000. please provide any additional information / attachments. *ak

Attempt to have chrysler fix head gasket failed; would not authorize replacement of head gasket because car is used, near 100000 miles, and six years from manufacture; head gasket must be replaced by me at my own cost; a/c leak has never been completely determined, although several leaks were found and fixed; blower motor recently died. linkage "blew apart" at some point in 2001 and had to be repaired using oem washers and nuts. *ak
Numerous other probs: oxidized paint, gauges will fail when driving, does not shift (automatic), head gasket leak, transmission fluid leak, would like to be part of class action or get them to fix this car so i can get rid of it!
Automatic trasmission lost reverse; dealer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was out of its warranty, and reapirs would be done at consumer's cost. please feel free to provide any further details on this matter. *ak
Power train control module (pcm) failed causing hesitation and stalling at city and highway speeds. *ak
Gasket failures (head and transaxle) diagnosed by ultraviolet dye test. brake deficieny discovered in high speed commuter traffic with near collision. the frequency of the same complaints from many owners suggests that a large recall action is in order before many serious accidents result.
The month i bought the car i had to get the motor mounts replaced and the transmision. the motor mounts were busted and i shouldn't have been driving the car on the transmission. since i bought the car the paint job has been peeling. i have no paint on the roof. i had to sand down what was left and primer it. the rest of the paint on the car is peeling everywhere. recently the gauge cluster went out. when i would turn on the car the gauges wouldn't do anything. then it stopped, now the speedometer won't move along with the odometer. so i have no idea how fast i am going. last, whenever i get out of my car from driving it smells like someone farted, i have a constant check engine light that tells me its the o2 senser but it's not we tested those. the catalitic convert is bad on the car and i have to replace it.
Vehicle stalls, had pcm replaced , now this component needs to be replaced again. *ak
The head gasket caused my water pump, transmission, radiator, to be replaced. it made my engine overheat all the time..i had to replace everything..it also leaked oil all the time. i spent money all the time to replace the oil that leaked out. *ak
Instrument cluster loses power unexplicably during normal car usage. power is immediatly restored after the loss, however it makes vehicle difficult to drive at times when odemter is being reset. excessive leakage in vehicle's trunk and driver's side back seat has occured. bosak to fix after car was recently bought, however, leak not completely fixed and re-discovered 1 year later. a hole was discovered in the drivere's side rear wheel well as a result of unexplicable excessive corrosion. it was also discovered that seals were broked on drivere's side door and window track was glued improperly causing the window and track to come loose. out of pocket expences not revovered by dealership. also discovered was a severe leake from head gasket. called several repair places and found the neon's have had much trouble in the past.. excessive oil loss, and repairs are costly. front engine mount off; causing pressure in transmission lines and trans fluid leakage. please contact me asap about the car; need to recover costs.
Stalled on freeway at 55 mph, stalled in middle of the road at 45 mph at night,
This was the 2nd time the same problem has been repaired, the first time was on 2/21/95. at this time the transmission was also rebuilt, another problem is the engine check light staying on. this was also repaired on 12/27/94, and i am haveing the same problem again. *ak
Vehicle would fail to shift into reverse when weather is cold outside. previouse owner had transmission rebuilt for same problem in 1995. owner now had transmission rebuilt for hard shifting into reverse. insurance company refused to cover due to design flaw from manufacturer. the manufacturer is not covering eventhough a new updated part is available. *ak according to third party mechanical inspector it was founding that there was a material failure to the forward piston seal due to a design flaw from the manufacturer. the insurance policy does not cover design flaws. *yh
Vehicle will stall for no reason. *ak consumer states stalling had been occurring just 6 months after purchasing vehicle, there was a recall, 94v033, regarding transmission problems which could cause stalling, however when taken to dealer, dealer stated that due to mileage, it was out of warranty, dealer replaced pcm and charged consumer for it. *slc
Car will not shift into high gear and poor acceleration, install new transaxle valve body assembly
Recall 94v033000, the pcm malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to stall unexpectedly which may cause a crash. there is a recall for this problem, but this vehicle is not included in the recall due to vin. please provide further information.*ak
Electrical system has short in it, failure of power locks and stereo, emergency brake snapped, clutch quit shifting- had to shift w/o clutch, brakes do not work right, damage to car dealer did not disclose. car is now parked at the dealer, undriveable, they will not fix and i have only pwned it since 5/26/99
Vehicle experienced premature transmission failure while going into 5th gear. nlm
While driving at 35mph consumer applied the brakes to come to a stop, left rear axle broke loose, car skidded over an embankment and down hill. *ak
When the transmission failed the dealer told me i ran it out of fluid/ i was 2 mo. / 2000 miles from factory warranty and they would not help pay for any of the $1350 they wanted me to pay/ had it towed to an independant mechanich which told me that the back of the transmission had a large hole blown out of the back of it, couldnt keep transmission fluid in it that way. found a used one with 2,000 mi. charged $800. this car has been nothing but trouble since day one. i will never buy another dodge, ever!! the dealers try to rob you blind and the co. doesn't know you once they have gotten their money. paid 10,500 for this car 2 years ago and have been paying ever since.
With car in motion and without any warning symptoms, clutch cable failed when clutch pedal was depressed. driver was approaching an intersection and intended to stop the car. as a result, the car was "stuck" in gear with the clutch engaged, the engine running, and the car moving forward. the brake pedal was used to "stall" the engine and stop the car in the intersection the clutch cable was found to be failed at the point of entry into the transmission, which allowed the connecting bolt to fall inside the transmission, requiring disassembly of the transmission in order to remove the parts. the car had previously (about 2 yrs / 40 k miles) experienced intermittent squeaking niose as clutch pedal was depressed & released. this was reported to the dealer at the tim (2/97) who could not reproduce the noise. *ak
While ehicle was parked in front of the house, somehow the vehicle rolled across the street, crossing over three yards, and rolling across driveways. gear was still in park position. also, consumer had problems with the brakes, which had to be repaired three to five times. *ak
Head gasket failed. nlm
Consumer states while shifting gears and car idled up real high so consumer turned off the car so the engine would not blow up.
When driving at 70 mph the engine check light came on and the vehicle shut down. as the consumer was driving, and when the consumer tried to start the vehicle back up, the vehicle wouldn't start. the consumer stated the water pump/ timing belt and the pinion ring and gear failed also. *ak

My car has had a problem with overheating since i had it; but the service department at the dealership wpuld always say it was the thermostat when it wasn't. i changed the thermostat three times with the same problem. when the warranty ran out, i was told all these problems with the car that was existing before it ran out that would have been covered. the car has been leaking oil and smoking under the hood ( not exhaust valves) but i am told the head gasket blew out, and that this happened with alot of neons. also the rear main seal leaks right around 60k miles which is when i started having oil problems. my car overheats in warm weather ,mostly when i am stopped at a light or in traffic and i have to cut the heat on until i start moving. i thought it was a fan malfunctioning, but again, the service department said it was the thermostat, which it wasn't. this has been happening since i had the car. if this happens with alot of neons i think this should be remedied by the manufacturer. *ak
As soon as this car hit 36000mls the problems just added up. everytime i turned around something was going wrong this car. chrysler were the worst manufaturer i had ever dealt with and will never buy anything from then again. we had to let the car go back because we could no long afford the repairs on it. the cruise control had to have some thing to do with the computer, and was replacedby myself. the alternator went bad was replaced by myself. the radio went bad was replaced by myself. the transmission had a pin that was not fitted and wore a hole through the transfer case. malfunction!! we could not afford it and did not repair.
Oil leaks, electrical system/ transmission, and fuel line failed. *ak

While driving there is hesitation/bucking pulling back and forward, feels as if the car will stall.*ak
Since the purchase of my neon in may '95, i have had nothing but costly problems. this past year, alone, the repair, towing, and car rental expenses have exceeded $5000.00. this car is costing me a fortune to maintain, as these are major components that are malfunctioning. the items i have registered complaints on are just a few of the items i am having problems with. in just over a year, i have had to have a head gasket replaced, my air compressor seized, almost resulting in a fire, my throttle body had to be replaced, they still can't determine why my brakes squeal constantly. although i have heard that this, among other things, is a very common and dangerous problem with the '95 neons. my my engine controller had to be supposedly updated, my engine skips, but the dealer says nothing is wrong with it. my warning lights don't work, with these problems, you would think that you would have some kind of warning. and now, i have had to replace gear shift cables, and as of yesterday, i had a clutch cable snap which may have caused transmission damage. i have been told that the clutch cable has been updated 3 times for the '95 neon because of problems with it, i will be investigating this further. my air compressor has malfunctioned twice since i have had the car, as well as the evaporator. for what it has cost me to repair this car, because chrysler refuses to admit fault, although it is obvious that this model and year is a lemon, i could be driving a mercedes benz!! i have never been so disappointed in a vehicle as i am with this neon! and obviously i am certainly not the only person with constant problems and astronomical repair costs being incurred. it is quite obvious by this database that there are many other people who are in the same boat i am in. chrysler has made not only a poor product, but also a dangerous product. i can't believe that they would knowingly sell a vehicle to so many people with the problems that the neon has had. thieves!
While driving brakes would squeak, and vehicle would slide. also, transmission is not working properly, and vehicle stalls. *ak
Due to poor manufacturer design, the car was found to have lost most of its transmission fluid because of a leak in the transmission cooler line as a result of it rubbing against the air conditioning hoses.
Transaxle failed due to worn hose carrying automatic transmission fluid to radiator developing a hole due to rubbing against adjacent hose/clamp, also replaced torque converter. *ak
Transaxle failed due to worn hose carrying automatic transmission fluid. the location/design of two hoses allows them to rub against each other at the clamp location and causes the protective layer on the hose to wear through. this allow the fluid to leak out causing transaxle damage.
Vehicle rolled backwards when key was inserted into ignition with transmission gear in park position, causing accident.
When driving vehicle jumps, and when putting in gear it jumps and makes a loud squeaking nois. dealer and manufacturer contacted, both aware of the problem, and cannot duplicate the problem. *ak
Soft brakes, master cylinder replaced.
