I've seen there has been a recall on the abs unfortunately my vehicle was made a month later. my abs light, break light, air bag light and the car slippery light is on.
Yesterday, while waiting at a stop sign my 2012 journey shut off. i had no idea it had even shut off! i pressed the gas to go and the car wouldn't move. i was a little baffled because the radio was still playing. i put the car in park and pressed the ignition and the car started again. this is latest and most unsafe issue that i have experienced with this car. the radio randomly changes stations and it doesn't shut off when the car is shut off. i have to turn the radio off before i turn the car off because it will continue to play. this started about 8 months ago. the car was turned off and the drivers door was opened, but the radio kept playing. if i forget to turn it off before the ignition, i have to restart the car and let the radio play for a min or so before i can turn it off. also, the rear air suddenly comes on. when i turn it off it comes back on. if it's synced with the front air, it will randomly go to the high setting. the journey also does a jerking motion while driving. this happens on the highway or neighborhood roads too. we thought that maybe it was the transmission, but we had it checked and it's fine! after yesterday's sudden shutoff, i'm wondering if all that jerking was a sign of what was to come. the brake light has been coming on for a few weeks as well. i could be driving on a city street or highway and the break light comes on. it usually happens while driving straight, acceleration or driving at a constant speed. it happens so frequently that my kids are like, here we go again because we, our bodies, start jerking with the car. we bought this car brand new at the end of 2011. i loved it at first, but now i'm afraid to put my kids in it something needs to be done. there are issues with diff. model years, so if the problems are being fixed on some, it should be fixed on all. after all, the company made $ on all of them & our lives are valuable
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge journey. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate, jerked, bucked, and the electronic stability and traction control indicators illuminated. there was also a drastic reduction of speed to the point that the vehicle would stall at any given moment. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle and noticed moisture, and that the abs module needed to be replaced. the dealer (maguire chrysler dodge jeep ram of syracuse, 959 hiawatha blvd w, syracuse, ny 13204, (315) 487-6211) was notified and stated that the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 15v675000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic); however, the vehicle exhibited the same failure as the recall campaign. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 87,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge journey. while driving 65 mph in inclement weather, the brake pedal was depressed and the abs and traction control warning indicators illuminated and the brakes failed to operate as intended. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v675000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic). the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 146,000.
I had a abs light and esc light appear, pulled into gas station. approached the fuel pumps and pressed the brakes and slid on the icy pavement (snowy michigan) into the gas pump protectors made of concrete. couldn't control the vehicle @~8mph slightly turned approaching a gas pump on wet/icy concrete.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge journey. the contact stated that the brakes failed occasionally while driving. when the contact attempted to stop, the brake pedal had to be depressed to the floorboard to stop the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who test drove the vehicle, but no failure was found. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 141,000.
The abs system malfunctioned causing the brakes not to stop. which nearly resulted in a life threatening crash.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge journey. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to have new brakes installed. once she arrived, the contact was informed that the brakes did not need replacement; however, the rubber line that carried the brake fluid needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 62,600.
Brake pedal goes completely to the floor when braking. happens intermittently, brakes work perfectly fine for 2 to 3 weeks then occurs again. has happened 4 times. completely replaced brake fluid, checked brake pump and brake line for leaks, no leakage visible. can it be brake module or abs module that is defective? vehicle was in motion everytime situation occurred on the highway.
Faulty abs module due to water leak, recalled on very many 2012 dodge journeys. for some reason, not recalled on mine. noticed brake light, abs light, and traction light came on, i had a diagnostic done by my own mechanic and confirmed over the phone with the dodge dealership that i was covered under the recall. after dropping my car off and the mechanics there not fixing the issue, i was told that my vin actually was not covered under that recall. so my abs module is faulty for no obvious or apparent reason. i rarely drive on highways, i never got into any accidents, the 3 notification lights as noted above just came on one day when i turned the car on.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge journey. while driving approximately 25 mph, a grinding noise was heard without warning when the brake pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to crown dodge of fayetteville (436 n mcpherson church rd, fayetteville, nc 28303, 910-920-9613) where it was diagnosed that the brake pads were not fitted correctly on the calipers and needed replacement. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. several weeks later, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer were the front disc brake pads were replaced. the contact stated that the brake failure occurred several times. the vehicle was not taken back to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 70,644.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge journey. while driving 30 mph with the accelerator pedal depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle stopped moving and the stability and traction warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to 5 corners dodge chrysler jeep ram (1292 washington ave, cedarburg, wi 53012, (262-375-3900), but the failure could not be duplicated. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred at least three different times. the contact found nhtsa campaign number: 15v675000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic), but the vin was not included because the vehicle was manufactured in february of 2012 versus april 12, 2012 to april 14, 2015, as the recall stated. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 107,000.
Driving on highway had to pull over. put hazard lights on grass was wet. when done we got stuck so i out the abs button on and the traction and abs lights stayed on the dash for 20 miles, then they turned off for a brief moment and they've been on ever since. computer module at our local store is not giving a problem when plugged into the fuse box with their handheld computer.
The heater works great on the driverside and blows cold on the passenger side no matter what you do.autostart doesn't work when it's cold out, thought that was the point of it but guess not.makes a really loud winding noise when i starting it,also goes into gears hard most of the time. got the hard to find 225/55/19 tires on it and my brakes make a lot of noises. my front end makes a bunch of popping and grinding when turning left or right going forward or backwards, heatsheild is falling off around the driveshaft. service all wheel drive light comes on often, the park assist stopped working ,taillights flickering often, one of my fobs works when it wants to even with a new battery.driver seat is also starting to act up to having to wiggle the switch around to make it work. no one wants to fix the problems with my journey rt making me regret getting this suv i was practically forced into buying/trading it and when i went to the place of purchase a few days after getting was promised these issues fixed and i'm still waiting will not put my children in this car going to get rid of this nightmare soon as i get the chance since this so called 4star safety raiting is bs don't feel safe at all

After 60mph have vibration wen touch tha brake pedal
My car is exhibiting all of the problems that other 2012 dodge journeys are under a recall for, regarding the abs, and traction control, but i'm being told by the dealer that my car isn't covered under this recall. i have resurched and quite a few people are having this same issue, and being denied the recall. the recall needs to be expanded. my car has 110000 miles on it. i had the brakes changed last year by the dealership, and they have continued to make noises like a spinning rusty wheel, and now i have lost my abs, and traction control, which then takes my cruise control. cars should not come apart just because they reach the 100000 mile mark. i can clearly see i'm not the only person dealing with this same issue, so they need to look into this!
Abs and traction control lights illuminated. diagnosed by the dealership that the abs module needed to be replaced. brakes continued to work and at first the abs and traction control went on and off intermittently.
Purchased new in 2012. dodge journey sxt the tires developed cord separation at 22,000 km. manufacturer kumho. neither chrysler nor kumho would offer any compensation. even had 4 wheel alignment done that checked out ok to make sure it was not the problem. replaced them with american made tires and so far no issues. my advise to new car purchasers is have tires if off shore replaced with domestics as part of offer to purchase. secondly vehicle to date only has 37,000 km and brake rotors developed a warp. pulsation is being felt upon moderate braking. i am not one to be hard on brakes and have never had to panic stop thus not having to over heat the brakes. next issue the cruise control will not engage when the button is pushed. the clock on the radio does not keep time . this is not our daily driver and the warranty has run out time wise. to date only just over 37,000 km. i own 2 other n.a. vehicles by gm and ford 2001 and 1999 respectively . the 01 sunfire 455,000 km 4 sets of pads and original rotors and drums and f150 with 157,000 2nd set of pads and original rotors so you can see it is not a poor driving style. very disappointed with chrysler products . have to take the journey back to dealer for service to see what can be done and will be getting hold of chrysler rep, this one is more in the shop than in my driveway thanks to gm and ford for keeping me rolling.if no positive results from dealer or chrysler i will not recommend their product to anyone from my experiences. i hope some one at chrysler reads this comment.i would certainly like to hear their response. having read many forums only to find out many are having the same issues with the same vehicles.
Hi my name is [xxx]. i'm writing this complaint on the basis of my 2012 dodge journey. i have had my 2012 dodge journey for 2 years and 3 months, and i have had to replace front brake pads and resurface rotors 3 times in 2 years. i've also had to replace rear brake pads and resurface rotors twice on the back 1 recently being 3 days ago and now i took it somewhere else because of noise in the front brakes and rotors and they said i need front calibers on both sides and brake hose on both sides, and a break fluid flush and need more brakes because they locked up at that place today also. i haven't even paid car payment this month and i've already paid 300 dollars for brake caliber on the truck and place i went to get a 2nd opion and they said i need 652.85 dollars to get my front done and this is 2 days later after i got my back done. i have spent at least 3,000 dollars on this on going problems in the past 2 years. my 2012 dodge sucks and i need help. i'm getting me a lawyer and im filing all kind of complaints about this current problem that i dont have money to keep getting fixed. also once my brakes locked up on the truck once at the dealership which was july 11, 2018 that cost 300 dollars. i live 30 minutes away from the dealership, i take i95 to and from the dealership, they were about to let me drive my truck back home but the brake had locked before they can give it back to me. question what if i would've got in my truck and drove back home on i95 and my brake would have locked up??? thanks information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
The brake warning light, abs warning light and traction control warning lights come on randomly. sometimes the brakes fail to engage when the abs light is lit and the vehicle makes a weird noise (sounds like grinding sound). yesterday my wife was unable to stop at a traffic signal and went through a red light when the brakes would not work. this model and year are under a recall r61 (hhtsa 15v675000) but chrysler support says our vin is not covered. turns out that the manufacture date of our car is about 6 months prior to the reported recall manufacturing dates. this is a dangerous situation that they refuse to even look at or diagnose without charging us to do so. it does not take a rocket scientist to see that our vehicle is exhibiting the exact same problems and symptoms as detailed in the above recall. i guess they want someone to die before taking action. it is my understanding that safety items like abs are covered for 5 yrs or 100000 miles and our vehicle is under that description as it has 86,000 miles and was built 10/2011
They're are recalls for all the issues i'm having with my vehicle but when i put the vin in it doesn't fall under the recall list. i don't see how they can choose what cars to fix if the same problems and parts are on all them. so i guess dodge is definitely not the vehicle to buy since they don't stand behind they're work. i was driving and the abs light and traction control light came on and cruise control stopped working. and from what i've been told it's the brake sensor and that's one of the recalls my vehicle vin doesn't fall under.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge journey. while driving 50 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. the contact stated the brake pedal was released and reapplied until the vehicle finally stopped. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the fact that the vehicle was operating normally. several days later, while driving 40 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed as having a fuse box failure. the independent mechanic advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer because there was a recall; however, the dealer stated that there was no recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage and vin were unknown.
Every 3 to 4 months i have to get new breaks because the breaks start grinding so bad.
32000 miles and brakes and rotors need to be replaced. rear pads wore uneven, drives side down to metal while passengers are still meaty. front pads still meaty but rotors are warped? dealer claims wear & tear, no warranty
I have tried to get my vehicles in for their recalls however the dealership can never get the vehicles done in a reasonable time frame. i can make an appointment and have everything set up for a 30 minute fix and as soon as the car gets there it's well we will need to keep it for 48 hours before we can work on it. my other vehicle is a takata recall and it's been on a waiting list for over a year to came in.

Our awd journey had to have the back driver side braking system fixed at around 35000 miles. this included replacing the caliper and brake line. now at 38000 the brake is sticking on the back driver side and will have to be worked on again. the vehicle is in motion on city and highways. it happens when it is both a curvy and straight road.

My husband and i were traveling up our hill on from our house. it is very steep, like cresting the top of a rollercoaster. once we were at the top coming over the top our brakes gave out. my husband kept pushing them to the floor and still nothing worked. we had to round a bad curve towards the bottom and had to swerve to avoid hitting a car coming up the road. in doing so my husband tried to keep control of the car but ended up veering off the road into someone's yard where we hit a tree head on then skidded across their driveway and crashed through their privacy fence and landed nose down into their inground swimming pool. and at no point did our airbags deploy. we were wearing seat belts but i actually had to go the local urgent care for head injury and my husband is seeing a dr for back injury. our headrests had a mechanism that deploys in accidents. that was all that worked. thank god nobody was in the pool because they would have been killed. the police were called and a report filed.
My daughter was driving the car when the abs light lit up and never turned off. then the add service light came on. the car barely stops like the brakes are just given out. mind you there is less than 30k miles on it.

I was attempting to drive out of the driveway and put the car in reverse. the car would not go. i ensured that the safety brake was not set and that the car was indeed in reverse. the car was in reverse and the safety brake was not set. i gave the car a little extra acceleration and it felt like i ran over something. i learned that the rear brakes seized. i'm not sure, but i believe that this can compromise the braking ability of the car. it appears that there is an indentation in the rotors from where the brake pads 'set.' i had a similar problem with the car when the mileage was between 3,000 to 5,000 miles and the dealership replaced the rear pads/rotors. *tr
