Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2010 Dodge Journey

I have also been dealing with this same issue for the past 6-8 months and based on other complaints i have read i am not the only one.. the electrical randomly goes out while driving. sometimes it will come back on its own but most of the time i have to pull over to turn car off and restart. windows, blinkers, ac, radio, wipers, hazards, and exterior brake lights, etc go out. (i do not lose control of driving but fear that is what is next, based on other people's complaints of similar issues). the dealership cant find the problem, couldn't replicate issue (had turned off car despite my telling them it works after restarted), and told me to bring it back next time happens so they can see (as if they didn't believe me)..i have bought back again. only have approximately 3,000 miles left on the extended warranty- seems they are waiting warranty out. this is a possible dangerous situation that can claim lives, if someone doesn't see me braking, trying to turn, wipers wouldn't work during a rain downpour once.. dodge needs to address this as a whole!! *tr

Low air came on then found out the tire pressure monitoring system sensor nut was cracked on right rear wheel and the valve stem cracked on left rear wheel. called two dodge dealers and i was told i would have replace the entire sensor at a cost of $130 each, and they are replacing them with a new sensor with a rubber valve for the same reason i'm having. they told me the aluminum parts(stem and nut) are corroding fast causing breakage or cracks. my vehicle is out of warranty with just over 33k miles but more than 36 months. the car was driven at a low speed when the light came on and i think it would be very dangerous to drive the car, especially if at highway speed, and those parts fail which would cause the sensor to possibly come off and then cause a blow out to the point the car may loose control. this is a family car and it is risky to have this problem. this problem should be a recall. schrader, the sensor manufacturer, does have replacement sensors with rubber valves at less than $50 retail. *tr

The car alarm will go off sporadically, not honking consistently. it has gone off while driving the car as well! the key fob won't turn it off so i would go pull out the horn fuses under the hood. the alarm will still go off without the horn fuses. it is obvious because the lights will flicker, as if the alarm is going off, and a clicking noise of the alarm being activated is heard. don't know what to do and it is annoying having to drive around without my horn working! when the alarm goes off, we are not accidentally pressing the key fob buttons. again, when the horn honks during alarm activation, it is a sporadic honking likes the car is possessed, rather than a consistent honk. please help! *tr

Several times within the past 1 1/2 months my car has shut off while driving. i have been able to restart it with no problem. most times i am driving in a parking lot after the vehicle had been sitting awhile. this last time i had driven it several miles before it shut off. i was going over railroad tracks when it happened then had to make a turn with no steering and pull off the side of the road into the grass because there were vehicles behind me. the dealership says since they are not getting an error code they can't really do anything. they tell me to come back when the problem becomes more frequent and they will try to get a code then. all the research i have done says there has been a recall on this model for the same issue however my vin number does not fall within the range of those that have been recalled. the article says it is the win module. *tr

Our 2010 dodge journey has a key issue. it started a few months ago, but would always work after a few tries. when you put the key in and turn it, it says, "bad key." sometimes you could flip the key around and it would work. today it wouldn't work at all. now i have to have my car towed to the dealership and pay for a new key. there seems to be an ongoing issue with a lot of people and this vehicle when it comes to key issues. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. the contact stated that the anti-theft alarm would activate independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the alarm tipper needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the problem persisted. the manufacturer was notified. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 59,000. *tr

Twice today, my 2010 dodge journey shut off after making a right hand turn. the vehicle stopped accelerating and became difficult to turn. luckily, i wasn't in busy traffic and no one was turning behind me. otherwise, my kids and myself could have been seriously injured from an accident. i checked on-line to see if anyone else experienced the same problem and found numerous complaints about similar issues. i called chrysler and they told me that my vehicle didn't qualify for any recalls of that nature. what if i was traveling on the highway with a semi-truck behind me? *tr

Issues with starting car, erratic dashboard lights, and flickering power drops when vehicle is in motion. this is related to the ignition key and the ignition switch (win module) it's inserted to. when the car won't start you have to move the key around in the ignition switch to get it to finally start the car. i've taken it to the dealership on a few occasions and had them look at this problem. most of the time they could not find anything. on one occasion they changed out the battery. that did not help. this issue has happened rarely back when the car had approximately 50,000 miles on it. now it has 140,000, and happens quite often. i'm worried it might shut off driving in traffic and cause a major safety issue regarding my wife, child, and anyone else around the vehicle. i'm also worried, especially late at night at her jobs parking lot, it will leave her stranded due to the car not starting.

Since purchasing this vehicle just a few months ago we have experienced numerous incidents where it wouldn't crank on the first try but always on the second try. this time we were out to dinner and it wouldn't crank after numerous tries so we tried jumping it off but all the electrical was working so it wasn't the battery, after waiting about 30 minutes we tried it and it cranked so we assumed it was the starter. however after researching the problem online i glad i didn't go putting a starter and battery on it as it appears to be a ramp-id problem that the dealers aren't acknowledging and can leave families stranded with no idea what to do. there are chrysler mechanics on these forum sites that admit they know about the problem and say there should be a recall issued with the amount of complaints but chrysler won't do it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. the contact stated that the driver side window did not function, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power, the key fob would not open the door, the vehicle would not start, the door opened on the passenger side, and the horn independently functioned on its own. in addition, all the warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. after several attempts, the vehicle restarted but shut off again after the contact drove a few feet. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was unavailable. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

I bought this vehicle in 2010. i have now had 5 times where the vehicle will not start. i will be running errands and then get in the vehicle to start it and all it does is click. i've tried to jump it but it will not work. if you wait 3-4 hours it most likely will start. during several of these times, i've had my kids with me. the car needed to be towed and by the time the service men will start it, it starts right up. they did switch out my keys a few times, but it just happened again this weekend. i was stranded in a different city with no ride. the dealership / service repair man has no idea what the cause is. you don't know when this is gong to happen. this vehicle is not reliable and it is unsafe. if you look online and search this problem with this vehicle you will find 100's of complaints. *tr

Driving vehicle locally, making several stops. the last stop, when i return to car about 8:00pm with my children, car wouldn't start. attempted to get it jumped off and that didn't work. about 10:00p it started. i stopped by the gas station to fill up, cut it off, and it wouldn't start again. i contacted aaa, when they finally arrived about 45 min later, it started. this occurred around october 2012 it occurred again around april 2013, again may 2013, again january 2014, march 2014, december 2014, and march 2015. *tr

A continuing failure to start. following a electrical system recall my 2010 journey has failed to start on occasion and became a problem, creating at times a risk of being in the wrong place. we have so little confidence in this vehicle, we no longer drive after dark. when refueling, i don't shut the car off. (safety issue) however; it should be known that setting the alarm system, then triggering the system and putting the fob into the ignition to clear alarm, vehicle has started each time. the dealer thinks i should pay to have a computer check the system. based on other stories posted both here and on, just answer web sight a computer would be of no value. *tr

Intermittent starting problems, nothing when you turn the key; battery and starter good. if you leave key in the start position and walk away car will end up starting on its own. have gotten stuck 3 times with the car, do not turn it off when i go to the store. at first it happened once after owning it for a year, then 2 months later now almost 3 times a week. dodge has no answers why should i pay to have it looked at when there are many complaints on the web about this exact issue. what is being done? *tr

While driving i randomly lose all interior power - windows, wipers, radio, ac, signals. engine continues to run and steer fine. shutting off ignition and restarting corrects problem. it happens with no warning and no apparent cause. ac blower burned out about a year ago; dealer said it was due to a short and they fixed the short for free, but that didn't solve the power loss problem. i've found that pushing the ignition fob slightly in - or pulling slightly out - when it happens can resolve the problem without having to restart the vehicle but i worry that this problem will burn out the ac blower again. this loss of interior power happens on average once every 4 to 6 weeks; it's a safety issue since i the wipers or defog may stop working when it's raining. i don't know if it affects airbag performance and i'd rather not find out that hard way. *tr

Vehicle after owning for less than a year would not start when turn key. took to dealership and they stated they couldn't duplicate problem but found flashes in computer and flashed pcm. 18 days later same problem still going on took back to dealer stated that there was a bad cell in battery so they replaced. 3 months later same issue had been still going on took back stated that range sensor needed to be replaced. replaced stated no problems at this time dealer stated if problem happens again bring back. vehicle still doesn't start has been happening 3-4 times a week since oct 2012, taken vehicle back to dealer on 6/22/13 on top of horrible customer service they state problem cant be duplicated. have contacted chrysler as well have initiated numerous cases with them. yet still no recall and state it is a sensor again. this is ridiculous and chrysler needs to resolve this problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. in addition, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the win module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 11v139000 (electrical system) and 14v373000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was 128,000.

Continuous brake failure due to premature brake wear and rotor wear. caused failure with brakes resulting in going through intersection narrowly missing another car. brakes failed and repaired at my cost 3/25/12 at 48452 miles brakes failed and repaired at my cost 7/16/13 at 67356 miles brakes failed and repaired at my cost 10/17/14 at 82951 miles key ignition replaced due to recall in 2012 and the vehicle still loses power with gauges and lights. *tr

The electrical system shut down when driving. air-conditioning, radio, and electrical panels all went out. we stopped the car in the park lot nearby and restarted the car. everything came back after the car is restarted. this happened several months later when we were driving at about 50mph. same thing. it came back after the car restarts. *tr

Upon driving the vehicle we lost power to the radio, cigarette lighter and cruise control. it went off for about 30 seconds and came back on. it happened between 8-10 times during a 2 day period. it doesn't matter the speed at all. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. after several attempts, the vehicle was able to start. the failure recurred multiple times intermittently. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system); however, the part was not available to perform the repair. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 51,000.

I am the second owner of a 2010 dodge journey (bought in 2011). the original owners traded it in after not owning it a year. i was not told that it was already having problems until i met one of the mechanics at the dodge dealership when i brought it in for ignition problems. he told me that he knew i would be back. the ignition recall has been completed twice on my vehicle. i still have the not starting issue that i have seen in other complaints. i am also experiencing the electrical problems that i am reading about here. no power to the dash, windshield wipers, or windows. this just isn't a safe situation. i have had a computer module replaced, but that didn't correct the problem. the dealership can never find the problem. now i am out of warranty (80,000) and the problem is still happening and getting worse. my car has stopped while going down the road twice. luckily i was able to pull off and restart. something needs to be done about these problems. i have not notified dodge directly, but have been to my dodge dealership several times with the same complaints. nothing seems to get fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. the contact stated that the ignition key failed to start. the engine also vibrated at initial start-up and the check engine warning light remained illuminated. the dealer replaced the engine key however the failure was not corrected. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for further inspection. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 46,000 and the current mileage was 75,000.

I stopped at mcdonald's on my way to work, came out of mcdonald's went to start my car, had no power at all. my husband came and he tried to jump start it, and that did not work, had the car towed to a dealer, they tried to jump start it and it would not start. they pushed the car into the building and could not find anything wrong, and for some reason they left the key in the on position, and about 4 hours later with no one around the car, the car started all by itself. that problem was never fixed. three different times after that, my car would not shut off when you turn the car off. now 3 times this week my car would not start again, and it is in the dealership, and i am 487 mile out of warranty and don't know if chrysler is going to pay for it. had to agree to pay $100.00 fee for them to check it out. we have 3 2010 journey's in our family, and all are having problems. i feel there should be a recall for this. after great research, we found thousands with the same problem. how come there is no recall? lobbyist in washington? win module!!!! *tr

Windows go up and down automatically at will. drivers side gets stuck in either position and then goes up or down at will. this occurs when vehicle is either standing still or in motion. *tr

Making left turn into parking lot and vehicle shut off. recently noticed possible related issues with computer, including uconnect not working. the vehicle went in for recall repairs in aug 2011 including l25 but we had not experienced any electric concerns prior to that point. called dealer today and they advised to bring vehicle in but they had not heard of issues occurring after l25 repair. *kb

Car wont start when key is turned on have to wait before it will start. this happens once or twice a month since i brought it. *tr

I purchased my 2010 dodge journey sxt in oct 2010. the vehicle has died (electrical problem) numerous times while driving the vehicle at speeds up to 70; however, as low as 10. i have taken the vehicle in four times and they haven't been able to replicate the error and have sent me home with the vehicle. it happened again on friday and i was in the middle of traffic and narrowly escaped an accident. i was able to put the vehicle in neutral and coast to the side of the road. my children were in the vehicle and i worry that we all will be killed. this time all of the lights came on the dash and the vehicle stopped. previously there was no forewarning. i took the vehicle in 02/11, 03/11, 04/11 and 06/11 and the issues have not been resolved. i have read several blogs reporting the same problem and no recourse has been done to repair the vehicle. i'm worried about the safety of my family and others. *tr

After having the vehicle for less than a year it began to not start at times. everything comes on in the car, when key turned it makes a clicking sound but does not start. it will not start using the keyless start or by jump starting it. car was taken into dealer and a recall was found on the ignition which was corrected. however the vehicle still does this intermittently and has for the last 3 years. it can go months without doing it. however has recently been doing this daily. it is very frustrating and can sometimes vary between minutes and hours of starting. once it starts there are not any additional electrical problems. this makes the car very unreliable and unsafe as it could occur in a situation of needing to leave an area quickly or in an emergency situation. i am a single mom and have only one vehicle. if called into work while "on call" status i have only 30 minutes to arrive. which is a frustrating and a worry some situation when the car will not start immediately. i cannot be without my car while the dealer tries several things to fix it nor can i afford to try various problem fixes when obviously with the numerous complaints there is an internal problem which should constitute a recall. i am still paying on this vehicle and owe over $12,000.00 which creates additional frustration as the vehicle is unreliable and creating unsafe situations. *tr

Brakes were vibrating and didn't sound right dealer replaced due to recall but had to still pay 100 dollars. also on 9/11/11 replace turn signal on drivers side when went out it took out brake lights too they repaired that and now only 6months later passenger side turn signal doing same thing they replaced light bulb drove it home was fine an hour later started happening again takes out brake lights. also when took in for turn signal had to have back brakes repaired felt same vibration and noise. also had to pay 100 dollars out of pocket and car only has 21,000 miles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. the contact stated after stopping the vehicle and trying to restart it, the vehicle would not start. the contact stated she received a recall notice from the dodge manufacturer on the wireless ignition module. the dodge notification recall#l25 will not be effective until july 15, 2011. the wireless ignition module also failed preventing the vehicle from starting. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated the recall was not listed and the parts will not be available until july 15, 2011. if the vehicle was repaired before july 15, she would have to pay for the repairs and receive reimbursement from the manufacturer. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 37,800.

My husband and i purchased a 2010 dodge journey se vin#[xxx] in year 2010 in canada, in 2013 we imported it into us and we are living in michigan. during the five-year ownership, this vehicle has been causing safety problem many times, the issue is sudden lost of electric power for turning signal, wiper motor power, radio and all dashboard light, except the engine running. the first time of such incident happened within 1 year of ownership while we were at turning signal, the vehicle lost turning signal caused confusion to the vehicle behind and almost caused an accident, and since then every few months or so this incident happens, the dealer did multiple repair to it, but never really solved the problem. many times the dealers could not replicate the issue we report. i recently experienced twice of such incidents, one was during raining day and the wiper lost power i could not see ahead and had to stop on road, the most resent was yesterday i lost ventilation to the window and could not see through the window due to moisture on window. i video taped these two incidents and would like to forward to you if i can find a way to attach to this complain letter. this is very serious safety issue can cause fatal accidents, we need your help to force manufacture to admit the issue and address the issue immediately before fatal accident happens. thank you! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. the contact stated while driving 60 mph the vehicle lost power and the key fob popped out causing the vehicle to stall. while the vehicle was being pulled to the side of the road, she started the engine and all of the warning lights illuminated. the rpms began to increase and vehicle started accelerating as if nothing happened. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated they were unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was notified and advised her to take the vehicle back to the dealer and let them repair the failure. the failure mileage was 25,000. updated 10/18/11*lj the key fob popped into the accessory position while driving at 60 mph. a recall existed at the time for the problem. but the dealer was not aware of it, so they wouldn't fix it. the trim ring was installed after the dealer was made aware of the already existing recall. updated 11/07/11

I have had to replace front and rear brakes on this vehicle at a huge expense and the poor stopping ability caused premature wear of my tires which also had to be replaced at a large expense. also, on multiple occasions my vehicle will not crank when the key is turned. the lights, radio, and windows continue to work, ruling out the battery as the cause. you can hear a "click" when the key is turned but the car remains dead. i have been stranded in dangerous situations when this has happened. each time the vehicle has been taken to service, no remedy is made as i am told that the problem can not be duplicated. the vehicle is currently in for repair with the same issue. i have asked to have the electrical system checked because i have had issues with multiple bulbs blowing out, (all at the same time), one window not raising or lowering from the passenger button only and a multitude of other quirky, electrical items. i feel that this vehicle is unsafe . *tr

I purchased a 2010 dodge journey (used) in september, 2010. my problem first occurred in may, 2011. i went out to my car leaving work, and it would not start. lights/horn/locks/radio all worked, but all i got when i turned the key was a clicking sound. at first thought, i figured the battery may have died and needed a jump-start. but this did not work. after trying for 1.5 hours, i finally had the vehicle towed to a dealership. as soon as the vehicle was released from the tow truck, it cranked right up. i had the dealer run a full diagnostic check on it, since it was there and problem had occurred. but they found nothing wrong. i drove the car home, and the problem began to occur more frequently. it has occurred at least twice a week, with wait times varying. sometimes it'll start after 5 minutes. other times, i have waited 2-3 hours without it starting, and have been forced to have the vehicle towed. over the past year i have driven (or towed) this vehicle back to my local dodge dealership a 10 times! the most recent visit was on 7/29/12, when i paid to have the win module and key fob replaced, and it still doesn't work. i have been given several reasons for the problem, all of which they have supposedly fixed (either at the expense of my extended warranty or at my own expense). other times, i have simply been told there is nothing they can do because they cannot duplicate the problem when they have it. i have filed 2 separate complaints with chrysler corporation, but no help. i no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. i transport my 3 grandchildren on a daily basis (two 4-month old twins, born prematurely). i live in tx, where temperatures reach as high as 110+. i am very afraid of having my grandchildren in the car with me, and the car will not start for 2-3 hours, forcing us to wait in the 100+ temperatures to see if the car will decide to work. please help!!! *tr

There are times when the ignition would just click, when attempting to start the car. i have to remove the key multiple times and try to start it, till it starts. i would be driving and all the electrical components in the vehicle would just go dead. (all electronics in dash board, air conditioning, radio). i would have to pull over, turn the ignition off and restart the car. i am still experiencing this problem. i replaced the key, thinking it was the problem and i continue to have this problem. i have had to replace the tires on this car/truck 4 times at an average of 30 thousand miles. i had the rotation and balances as recommended. the tires wore uneven to the point where the wires were exposed on the inside of the wheels. based on the dealers i have not needed a front end alignment. i have also had the brakes replaced on this vehicle three times in the front and twice in the rear. the vehicle has 115, 000 miles and i have never had to replace part on a car like i have had to do with this one. *tr

The car first would stall while driving losing all power, a plastic piece was installed to hold key after several complaints. shortly after the vehicle would not start at all on several occasions leaving me stranded this happened for almost a year more often than not and i was told by the dealerships there is no recall and i would need to pay to replace the ignition which i had to finally do when the vehicle would no longer start at all in january of 2012, i now have a new ignition which was supposed to fix the problem and have still been experiencing the same problems about a month after i replaced the ignition and keys which i had to pay extra for a second key it is getting back to the way it was before i replaced the ignition taking me 30 mins to start my car today, all the power comes on the engine will just not turn over. this car is become very unreliable for a working mother, i never know if i'll be able to just get in my car and go or if i'll have to leave my car somewhere over night and come back and hope it starts again. please help!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. the contact stated while driving 30 mph the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. the contact was able to drive to the side of the road in order to restart the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact about nhtsa recall 11v139000: electrical system:ignition but the recall had not been released at the time. the dealer stated they were unable to find the problem that caused the vehicle to shut off. the contact stated the vehicle was unsafe to drive because the vehicle could shut off at any time. the failure mileage was 26,555.

Started with a flashing check engine light after awhile will stay on & only flash intermittently. dealer found code for #1 cylinder misfire & a tsb to update the software. 2 weeks later it returned, when the light flashes the steering wheel & front end shakes. no codes, no tsbs. it returned within 80 miles of last trip to dealer, they performed tsb 18-024-10 crank sensor shim, light returned along with the shaking within days. dealer replaced flexplate. again the light returned within days. next they did some form of engine cleaning, light returned within 500 miles of last attempt to fix. codes are always#1 cylinder misfire & random cylinder misfire. on may 16th the dealer looked at it, did a compression check of the cylinders, all good. chrysler support told them to change the pcm. as of may 19th it was 7th nation wide on back order while i continue to drive the vehicle with the light on & intermittent shaking hoping it doesn't leave me stranded between now & when the part comes in as they don't have an exact date. dealer claims no other reported journeys having this problem.

A couple months after purchasing my vehicle, it stopped in the middle of the street. this happened periodically over a course of three year.. last week, my car stopped in the middle of the street, almost killing my children and i. when i reported this to dodge, i was told that it had been recalled for an ignition issue (i was not aware of) and it had been repaired before i purchased it. the recall issue was causing the the same type of issues that i was having. now my car wont start and lo and behold, im being told its my ignition, yet im being told that its not dodges problem. we almost died and dodge could care less. *tr
