Dodge journey 2009. we had to replace the front pads with 21k miles and front rotors had to be turned twice to get them even. now with 27k the front rotors need to be replaced and the pads in the rear need to be replaced, as well. this must be a manufacturer problem. (do customers always need to wait until someone dies -- toyota!!). *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact was braking from approximately 40 mph when the brake pedal began pulsating abnormally. the steering wheel also began to shake and vibrate. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the front brake pads were replaced and the front and rear rotors were resurfaced. the identical failure recurred after the repair. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the front rotors were being replaced. the failure mileage was approximately 12,000. updated 2/28/11 *cn the brakes and rotors were replaced twice. updated 04/29/11
in two years, five (5) times for brake problems. with 3,000 to 6,000 miles between each broke. two times engine support mount. two times with power train problems. today (10/06/2011) the journey 2009 r/t is in the service center of alberic colon chrysler/jeep in kennedy ave, san juan pr for the same problems and also : for the air conditioner system, suspension, motor cooling system problems, leaking grease in the back of the right front wheel. and guess!!!!!!, brakes again. both, chrysler and the dealer has refuse to obey the law that says, they have to provide a vehicle in cases that repair least more than 5 labor days including saturday.also, to added more problems,[xxx](pr chrysler service manager), has refused to authorize the brake repair. saying that is normal, that a brake system that was repair in 02/16/2011 needs to be repair again in 09/19/2011(22033 to 30200 m). i have being without transportation for three weeks, causing me an my family a lot of problems because, is our only vehicle for all the family matters including, that i am a cardiovascular patient. At 11k miles i had to have front brakes replaced. shortly after that my back brakes had to be replaced and my back rotors were warped. the dealer told me i had exceeded the 12k manufacturer warranty and had to pay for repair. after researching consumer reviews and having read of numerous complaints on brakes / rotors i sent a letter to chrysler along with complaints. i did not receive any letter, not a phone call, just a check for repayment of brake work. since then i have had my censor light come on twice for the tires and up until now, after reading from this website was i unaware this vehicle appears to have problems with tires as well. my vehicle is currently in the shop. i had taken in twice for a noise that was coming from the front passenger side. the first time i was told they could not find anything. the 2nd i was told it was a computer chip that needed adjusting and it would be "fine". it wasn't fine. the noise got worse. my power locks on driver door and my remote key would not work. i took my vehicle in for both the noise and the power locks/key not working. i have been without a vehicle since monday (it is friday) and it is due to having to replace a wiring system and alternator. an alternator? my vehicle has 25k miles!! please help.....there are almost 200 complaints for all the same problems i am having. this is not right. *tr
Tl* contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated the vehicle started to make a metal on metal grinding noise while driving 35mph. she took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the brakes were completely warn down. the dealer had to replace the brakes pads and the rotors. the contact stated the failure happened in just one day, there was no previous noise or warning. the dealer told her that her back brakes needed to be replaced. the failure mileage 19,200. the current mileage was 19,600.
I had to replace my front and back brakes, and had 4 rotors resurfaced on an 18 mth old car, with 16,373 miles on it. i had to pay $638.58 for it, 426 of it was labor. this should not be normal for a new car. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving at speeds of 35 mph, he could hear a grinding noise when applying the brakes. he also stated the brakes would not engage as accurately as they should. when depressed, the brake pedal would feel soft and would fall very close to the floorboard. the dealer advised the front brakes were worn and would need to be replaced. the rotors were cut and the front brakes were replaced under factory warranty. the failure mileage was 10,190 and the current was unknown.
At 2000 miles on my 2009 dodge journey i started having problems with my front passenger window sticking, and brakes squeaking. also car not shifting when taking off and when you slow down and try to speed back up. i took it in. they told me maybe sap in window and brakes fine. three days later window acting up again. took it in. same reason. cleaned and greased. this is the eight time i've taken it in. they have replaced motors, switches, tracks, seals and now wont roll up or down . the brakes have been an issue since the start. at 21000 miles the dealer tells me i need new pad and rotors. take it to brake shop and they tell me all i need is pad. brakes working fine right now but still squeak every now and then. they have replaced electrical harnesses that may catch on fire. the squeaking noise now has turned into other parts that are having to be replaced. my computer chip has been reset 4 times and cheap plastic mirrors on visors and sunglass holder and light on inside roof. the springs on my back doors have popped out leaving the door stuck open. went to eat with 23000 miles on the car and after leaving the car would not start. called dealer and they called a tow truck and wanted me to pay for that also. my car has been in two different dealerships on 10-15 different occasions for repairs. they still have not got these issues fixed. what can i do? *tr
2009 dodge journey had to have brakes and rotors replaced at 16,000. brought vehicle in for tire rotation and found out everything needed replacing. unheard of. vehicle repair technician informed me that he has been seeing an abnormal amount of 2009 journey's/caravan's with the same issue. dodge must be putting on sub-par brakes for this to be happening. no accident occurred...but i wasn't expecting to replace at only 16,000. i've seen others on a dodge forum website that have had to replace even sooner. whatever you can do to help. it's like david fighting goliath. *tr
Brakes and rotors had to be replaced at 16,000 miles...unheard of...and rear brakes are going to need to replaced soon as well. chrysler obviously put on faulty brakes/pads in order for this to happen so soon. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving 65 mph, the contact applied pressure to the brakes when the steering wheel started to shake and vibrate excessively. the dealer replaced the front rotors and brake pads in december 2009. in july 2010, the contact experienced vibration and the dealer replaced the front rotors. in april 2011, the front brake pads and rotors were replaced. in may 2011, the contact heard a loud squeaking noise and took the vehicle back to the deale however, they were unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was left with the dealer where the contact was awaiting diagnosis. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the current mileage was 45,111 and the approximate failure mileage was 20,558. updated 10/5/11 *cn updated 3/23/12 *cn
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated the brakes began grinding prematurely. the vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the contact was informed that the failure was premature at 12,800 miles. the contact spoke with an authorized service technician who advised the ceramic brake pads on the vehicle were defective and were cutting into the rotors. after inspecting the vehicle, the dealer stated they would replace the front brake pads and shave the rotors at their expense but not for the rear brake pads and rotors. the vehicle was left with the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs. the vin was not accepted. the failure mileage was 12,800 and the current mileage 19,800.
On my 5th set of brakes & rotors on my 2009 dodge journey. the car only has 53000 miles on it. chrysler refuses to admit there is a problem with the braking system on the car. i am now averaging replacing rotors every 10,000 miles. very expensive and most importantly not safe. please investigate this problem as chrysler extended the warranty on the brakes when we received a letter in july of 2011 to 36,000 miles. they know the brake system is too small for the car. there have been other electrical problems as well. i feel this car is a lemon. thank you! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the brake pads were wearing prematurely and smoke was seen coming from the brakes after repairs. the brake pad was changed at least three times at the vehicle mileage of 30,000, 42,000 and 50,000. the dealer was notified of the failure who advised that they could repair the problem if the owner paid for the repairs. the manufacturer was notified who advised that a representative would return his call at a later date. the failure mileage was 51,000.
2009 dodge journey brake issues. car was bought new in jan 09 and in nov 09 the brakes are worn out. brake ware is uneven from front to back and side to side. mileage on the car is about 22,000 miles. if you look at http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/journey/2009/brakes/noisy_brakes.shtml you will find two complains of brakes wearing out way to early. if you look at http://www.dodgejourneyforum.com/index.php?showtopic=463 there are 6 pages of people talking about issues with brakes wearing out at or before 22k miles. seems like a safety issue to me that brakes don't last a year. seems they are wearing out at about half of what their life should be. seems to me that the brakes are not sized right or the pads they use are not formulated to last or the rotors have issues that cause them to rub the pad. *tr
The brake pedal at a stop will fade to the floor. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving approximately 25 mph and approaching a stop sign, the contact depressed the brake pedal to the floorboard and the vehicle hesitated to stop. the contact drove the vehicle slowly to the dealer for diagnostics where the technician advised that the front and rear brakes were worn and would have to be replaced, as well as the rotors. the contact also noticed that the rear passenger side door was holding water in the interior and would leak from the bottom of the door when the door was opened. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000. updated 01/24/12*lj the consumer also stated in december 2009, the vehicle would randomly not start. after letting the vehicle sit for about 15 minutes, it would then start. there were problems with the transmission, exhaust pipes rusting, and doors holding in water. update 01/27/12
The brakes for this vehicle repeatedly continue to fail. since the first repair (11/6/2009) we have had to have had 10 repairs to the brakes in less than 2 years! our mechanic says that there is obviously a design flaw. the last repair (on 9/9/2011) the mechanic said it appeared that the rear brakes were not being used and all braking is being accomplished using the front brakes. i don't believe that is how the braking system is supposed to work. i believe most of the braking should fall on the rear brakes. the front brakes are overheating and causing the rotor to warp and the brake pads to fail (literally fall apart). dodge obviously realizes there is a problem as they sent a letter offering an extended warranty dated 6/1/2011 for vehicles that have had early braking system failure. since 6/1/2011 we have had 5 repairs to the front rotors and/or pads! dodge did compensate us for much of our expense. i appreciate the compensation but that is not resolving the problem! the problem is that there is a constant failure in the braking system. i would like dodge to address the problem and either repair the design flaw or replace the vehicle! my fear is that the car will not stop while i am driving in houston, texas traffic and someone in my car or someone else's car will be seriously injured or killed as a result. it appears that dodge will wait until there is a death or injury to take responsibility for the poor or inadequate design of the braking system in this vehicle. unfortunately, i am not in a position to buy another car or i would get rid of this vehicle and never purchase a dodge vehicle again! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey rt. the front brake pads and rotors were worn and had to be replaced approximately four times. when the brake were depressed the vehicle was shaking excessively. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that was normal wear and tear on the brakes. each time the vehicle was taken in for repairs she had to pay the cost since there were no warranties or recalls on the brakes. the manufacturer was contacted and informed her she would be responsible for parts and that they would pay for the labor. no other assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 27,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the vehicle would shake violently. the dealer replaced the brakes numerous times but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and was in the process of assisting the contact with the failure. the failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 80,000. updated 12/12/11*lj the consumer stated the vehicle was taken to the dealer on three separate occasions; once to have the rotors resurfaced and twice to have the pads replaced. updated 12/14/11
I own a 2009 dodge journey and had my front/brakes replaced and the rotors turned at 12,000 miles. i am approaching 20,000 miles and they need to be replaced again. from my research, this has become a serious issue with dodge journeys. *tr
This vehicle has had issues with brakes and rotors. i bought the vehicle and had to replace the brakes and rotors within months. roughly a year later they had to be replaced again, and it has now gone out again. i have never had a vehicle go through brakes the way this one does. our other vehicle is a 2007 ford escape and has never had any brake issues, the first incident date is tentative. *tt
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that during routine inspection a technician concluded that the front brake system including the rotors needed to be replaced. he then added that there was only 25 % left on the rear brake pads. he is in the process of having the vehicle repaired. the current and failure mileages were 20,780.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the brakes were exhibiting an unusually loud noise. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the brake pads needed to be replaced and the rotors would need to be resurfaced. the vehicle was repaired but the remedy failed to repair the problem. the dealer then replaced the rotors and brake pads. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop for a second opinion where the brake lines, both rotors and brake pads were replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 10,693 and the current mileage was 24,700.
I bought a 2009 dodge journey in august 2008. by august 2009 12,000 miles the brake rotors were warped and the pads were shot. by june 2010 28,000 miles rotors were warped and pads shot again. *tr
The braking system on the 2009 dodge journey is, in the opinion of a specialized mechanic consulted as a result of the failure of the brakes, defective. the front brakes had to be replaced at 9,000 miles and the back brakes are at this point worn down, with the car having less than 20,000 miles on it. having called dodge, i was advised that it was a problem with the type of brake pads, not the actual braking system, and that dodge is paying for replacement brake pads. however, the opinion received from a specialized dodge mechanic and state vehicle inspector does not support this view. my overtures to chrysler have been utterly pointless with the company stating that the temporary solution proffered will resolve the problem. i am not convinced. the nhtsa must immediately commence an investigation into the nature and breadth of this problem and instruct chrysler to issue and immediate recall on the 2009/2010 dodge journey on the grounds of safety and consumer protection. chrysler is refusing to acknowledge the extent of the problem and seems to believe that it is acceptable to placate customers with a temporary solution to what it seems to me is a permanent and recurring problem, hence the urgent need for intervention from the nhtsa. *tr
My 2009 dodge journey required new rotors and brake pads at under 20k miles - the back brakes needed to be changed by 25k miles. dealer service center could not give a reason as to why both sets of brakes would need to be changed so soon. after researching on the internet this was found to be a common problem. brakes that need to be changed before 15k miles or you have to change the rotors as well seems to be a defect to me. i believed the squeak was due to "dirt in the wheel wells", as i was told when i took it in at 15k miles.... this is very dangerous as well as costly. i am now at almost 30k miles and the squeak is back. changing brakes every 15k miles is ludicrous. *tr
I purchased a 2009 dodge journey in may of 2009. within a month of the purchase, i had the brakes and rotors replaced. since then, i have complained numerous times about the brakes pulsating when applied and the steering wheel shaking. this has been a safety issue since the purchase of the car. i have all the documents to show where i have complained to the dealership. now they are saying the brakes are no longer under warranty and i would have to pay for any service done to the brakes. i am not understanding why i should have to come out of my pocket with this expense when i have been complaining since i purchased the vehicle. i have a grandson that i transport daily and don't feel safe driving something that i am paying for monthly. i recently had a vehicle pull out in front of me and went to put the brakes on and the brakes made a grinding and took a long to stop. the steering wheel shook as i applied the brake. my grandson was in the vehicle, but he was not injured. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving at approximately 25 mph, the brakes began to grind. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the rotors were turned and the disc pads replaced. the brakes continued to grind so the vehicle was taken back to the dealership where the rotors were turned and disc pads replaced again. the brakes continued to grind and the contact planned to take the vehicle back to the dealership at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 98,890.
I purchased a 2009 dodge journey. at 22,000 miles the brakes failed. the front brake pads had completely worn to the metal. the rotors where gouged terribly. the rear were ok?...the dealer stated "they must be using soft pads"????....unsafe to drive, brake failure could occur at any moment. the 19' tires do not match the very small brake assembly...and dodge's "bumper to bumper" warranty is a lie. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that he had experienced braking difficulty which included excessive pressure applied to the brake pedal and an extreme throbbing feeling while braking at various speeds as low as 35 mph. the dealer replaced the two front rotors but the failure recurred. the contact also heard a loud, unusual popping noise when the brakes were applied. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the front brake pads, replaced the front passenger side rotors, and reshaped the front driver side rotors; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would take the liability for partial repairs. the vehicle was taken to the dealer a three times who advised the identical repair that was previously performed. the contact declined the repair. the contact was concerned since there were numerous complaints pertaining to the failure for his year, make and model vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer advised the contact that the failure was contributed to normal wear and tear. the failure mileage was 7,009 and the current mileage was 18,945.
Since purchasing my new dodge journey i have repeatedly been going back to the dealer's with the same issue. my vehicle keeps on vibrating and pulsating when braking. it is occurring between 3 to 4,000+miles and everytime i take it in it's just spin/cut rotors and replace pads. i even wrote an angry letter to chrysler and they made arrangements for a cust service rep to meet with the dealers to resolve issue. which does help, but for only a short period of time they are not looking into the reason the brakes and rotors are being used up so quickly. replacing the parts is great but for how long is chrysler going to ignore the overall problem. there is a problem with the braking system of this vehicle. i have numerous job records to show how many times i've been to the dealers and all that is happening is more of the same cut rotors replace pads. only on my last visit was i made aware of a warrant extension for the same problem only now i have to pay a deductible. i called chrysler customer service and they made me aware of the fact that they extended the warrant based on complaints, but issued no recalls because the brakes are still deemed safe. i have been to the dealer's at least 6 or seven times for this issue and i have a hard time believing that all that's being done is an extension of warranty. what's going to happen after the three years. i have lost my personal time sitting in a dealership's and now it looks like my wallet will be taking a hit from deductibles everytime this issue arises. this is so aggravating. *tr
Premature front brake wear on 2009 dodge journey. at 13,000 miles the front brake pads had to be replaced for state inspection. this was in may of 2009. now that the car has 27,000 miles on it the front brakes started grinding suddenly. now the front brake pads and rotors will have to be replaced. never had to replace brakes on a car every 13,000 miles. checked the internet and found very similar complaints. is there a recall or a permanent fix for this problem other than replacing brakes every 6 months? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving approximately 35 mph, the brakes made a grinding noise and failed to stop the vehicle when they were applied. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the brake pads and rotors were replaced at 20,000 miles. a year later, the failure reccurred. the contact called the manufacturer and was told that they would return her call. the failure mileage was approximately 20,000. the current mileage was approximately 50,000.
We have had the brakes repaired three times on our 2009 dodge journey. the calipers never seem to disengage after braking causing constant wear on the brakes. we have discussed this with the dealership and have been told that it is not their responsibility. the first repair had to be done shortly after the vehicle was out of warranty. the brake check location that we are using states that the issue is due to poor design and possibly an issue with the parts. i see numerous complaints on blogs regarding early brake repair needed on dodge journeys. *tr
I purchased a 2009 dodge journey in mechanicsville va in 2008. the vehicles front brakes have been replaced 3 times and the front rotors twice in 55,000 miles. the rear brakes also needed replacement once. there is no warning when the brakes become warn, except for metal-on-metal sounds when the hardware for the pads make contact with the rotors. the quick loss of braking surface and rotor wear is effecting braking response and causing the vehicle to shake violently when the brakes are applied. i contacted dodge customer service and a dealership, and both stated that it was driving habits that were causing early wear on the brakes and rotors. however, i have never had to replace these components so early and often on any vehicle i've owned before. *tr
