Have a 2009 dodge journey with defective brakes. vehicle has only 18,000 miles and this is the 3rd set of brakes and rotors needing replacement. premature brake wear leading to brake failure front and rear. contacted chrysler, they want me to pay for defective brakes. dealer admitted to me seeing on going problem with this car. chrysler says nothing wrong. numerous complaints online from same vehicle owners, same complaints. something needs to be seriously done about this before someone gets hurt . *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving 45 mph the contact applied the brakes and heard a squeaking sound in the front end of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the contact was informed that the front rotors and pads needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. there were no prior warnings. the vin was not available. the current and failure mileages were 21000.
Excessive front brake pad and rotor wear. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for a routine oil change. the technician inspected the rear brake pads and informed that the brake specs were 4 millimeters. the contact stated the failure occurrence was extremely early for the mileage on the vehicle. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was 17,000. the vin was unavailable. js
Brake pads and roters replaced on my 2009 dodge journey at 19,000 miles after months of problems with braking and shaking in the steering column. *tr
2009 dodge journey sxt brakes are faulty. have seen numerous reports of problems with these brakes. chrysler needs to recall!!! had to have new brakes @30,000 miles. *tr
Front left brake pads and rotor excessive wear. back left brake pad and rotor very little wear (to the point pitted rust was on rotor). original front pads and rotors changed out at approximately 36,000 miles due left to right uneven wear. back pads and rotors changed out at 49,000 miles, due again to uneven left to right wear. after having the braking system looked at for this issue by the dealership tech where i bought the car from, i have been informed that it was due to "excessive rust". i had an ase certified mechanic change the back pads and rotors and was informed that there was no issues with brake slides, pads calipers, or rust. now dealership has informed me "that due to all evidence of the issue being destroyed, i will have to wait for it to reappear or complete failure to happen in order to resolve issue". *tr
Tl* the contact rented a 2009 dodge journey from a local temporary rental vehicle facility. the contact stated the vehicle would vibrate excessively when applying the brakes from a speed of at least 35 mph. the contact stated the feeling was similar to metal scraping against metal. there was an increased stopping distance and there was a hesitation in brake engagement when the brakes were applied. the failure would occur intermittently. the rental vehicle facility stated they were not aware of the failure. the contact was unaware if the rental facility made any repairs to the vehicle. the failure and current mileages are unknown. updated 10/13/10*bf updated 10/21/10
I own a 2009 dodge journey. the front rotors have been replaced twice and my current mileage is only 15,700! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated while driving at 30 mph and applying the brakes, the brakes began to grind abnormally and sounded as if metal was grinding on metal. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and advised the contact to return in two weeks for further diagnostic testing. the manufacturer advised there was not a recall for the failure and would not provide any assistance. the contact had the front brakes replaced at a different dealer and the failure did not persist. most recently, the rear brakes began to exhibit severe brake dust surrounding the rear tire well. there were no repairs to the rear brakes. the failure mileage was 24,000 and the current was unknown.
I purchased a 2009 dodge journey in april 2009. it is now july 2010 and 20,000 miles later i already have had to replace my front brake pads and the rotors needed to be replaced as well!! after calling chrysler because this is way too early to be replacing them they simply stated that it was not under warranty and there was nothing they could do. i have noticed several complaints of the same nature on blogs and on here. *tr
I bought my car may 2008. the first time it went into the shop was in jan 2009 and my car had about 11,700 miles with squealing noise. (my husband is military and we had to move across country, that's why we have that many miles on it by jan). at that time we didn't have any money to look closer into it. we took into a dealership and was told $600 would fix it. april 2009 my husband changed out the brakes of the car and took it to the base hobby shop to get it rotated. september 2009 squealing noises started again. dec 2010 we took to a firestone and they told us our brakes needed to have the brake pads changed out again. we were shocked. waiting for income tax to come back. feb 2010 we had the whole front brakes and rotors replaced. cost $400. april 2010 squealing noses came back. april the rotors were resurfaced! june we stared having squealing noises again. took it into firestone since we could the brakes done there. the manager was so shocked at how our brakes were already he called my husband in to the shop to look at the back brakes!!! the back brakes now!!! he told us the caliper was torn and that the brakes needed to be replaced. at this time he told us that he thought we really needed to take it into the dealership. took the car into the dealership that same day and told the service adviser everything. the side, the brake and ect. by 10am he called us telling us that all the brakes were 90%!!! i don;t think so., i told him to call my husband at that time because my husband saw what they say isn't there! so my husband got out of work early went into the dealership and the service adviser wanted to hand back the car and my husband said no i want to show you. adviser said it will be a minute as we are busy. 1 hour later he calls my husband. okay my husband showed him!!! pointed at it and showed him! the adviser was shocked and didn't know what to ...
This is a follow up e-mail to phone call. my comp# is 274123. my last name is spelled wrong and there are a few discrepancies. also wanted to give an update. i own an 09 dodge journey in which i had to replace the front brake pads at 12,800 miles, just after warranty, replaced by midas in dec.09. at 19,800 i felt my steering wheel shake when i applied the brakes. upon inspection i realized my rear brakes pads and rotors were shot. being suspicious of this premature brake issues i googled "09 dodge journey brake problems" and found hundreds of the same exact complaint! premature brake failure. hundreds of people who needed their pads and rotors replaced from 5k-22k sometimes even more than once! at the average expense of $360.00. i also noted that there are numerous of the same complaints from chrysler town & country and dodge caravan owners. when i contacted the dealer i was told by their service clerk that the ceramic pads originally installed at the manufacturer are wearing prematurely and that they are being replaced by a totally different pad with "extended life". in most cases they are being replace in "good will"(free of charge). a service tech also confirmed this but told me he could not promise that this service would be free until further inspection. when we dropped the car off at the dealer our main complaint was the rear brakes and rotors. we asked (in writing )that they be replaced in "good will" and that they also inspect the front brakes an rotors because they were replaced at 12,800 with the same ceramic pads that are causing all the problems. the dealer called and said they would replace the front pads and cut the rotors free of charge but would not replace the rear pads and rotors. the tech said they were already doing enough "good will"repairs on the car and that if we wanted the rear brakes repaired it would cost us $370. i called chrysler directly and got the same response. it's amazing! the front pads need to be replaced again after only 7k. *tr
I bought a brand new dodge journey in april 2009, this is june 2010 and i have 17,459 miles on it. brakes started squealing when i back out of my garage and sometimes when i'm pulling up to stop sign or red light. had them checked with my regular oll change and was informed today that i had less than 10% left on my front brakes!!!!!!! i live on a barrier island for gosh sakes, i'd have to ride the brakes 24/7 to wear them out that fast! called dodge corp. and they say its not covered under the warranty after 12,000. miles, ha!!!!! i traded in a new chevy impala with greater than 60,000 miles and still had 40 % left on the brakes and i was the driver......this is definitely a default in materials and has to be addressed before someone gets killed. i wasn't even going to ask them to look at it as i would never suspect a new car needing brakes. i make a new car payment so i won't have repair bills, this is not right. from what i have researched this is an ongoing problem with dodge and has not been addressed. *tr
Grinding noise when driving slow, tapping the gas would make it go away, called to have it services, and two days before i was scheduled the brake pads slipped off and i had to drive home metal on metal, then had to replace brakes and rotors under 27,000 miles. rubbing noise coming from the front when you turn corners, and a whining noise coming from the back, and chrysler mechanics stated they have received a lot of complaints but not to worry, because they cannot find anything serious going on. *tr
We bought that car a year ago brand new, earlier this week we heard grinding which we thought was abnormal and took to dealership and they said the brakes are so bad they could go out at any minute. we don't have the money to fix it and it is not covered so it is not safe to even drive the car. this is way too early and from what i found online, everyone is having this issue. we need a recall. *tr
Bad brakes on 2009 dodge journey sxt. had to replace front brakes at 22,700 miles and then replace the back brakes at 30,200 miles. that includes pads and rotors. total cost $700. *tr
Brakes continue to go bad. vehicle calls for numerous brake changes including the rotors as well. dodge notified and nothing has been resolved. also their valve stems are breaking in half in cold weather. causing tires air to deplete within 8 seconds. i have the valve stem from my car that broke and the other was replaced earlier under warranty. if this valve stem was to break in half while at high speeds on the highway, someone could be killed. *tr
This vehicle model has an obvious premature brake wear/failure problem. i replaced the front pads a year ago, very early in the life of the vehicle as compared to normal brake wear. i have now also had to replace the rear pads and have the rear rotors cut. i have been told that the front pads and rotors also have to be replaced due to excessive wear. the rotors are too thin and must be replaced. i drive mostly highway miles. i do not ride my brakes. i am a very conservative driver. yet, i have had to spend about $700 for brakes within a year. and, all of that before a normal brake issue should occur on a vehicle. i have read many other complaints about this issue on the internet. and, there are already at least 2 class action lawsuits filed related to it - in ca and nj. please investigate and force chrysler to fix the braking system on these vehicles.
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated the front brakes and rotors had to be replaced at 13000 miles and the rear rotors had to be resurfaced at 17000 miles. the service manager at the dealer stated that they are aware that the brakes and rotors deteriorated earlier than expected, but when the rear rotors were replaced, the manufacturer stated that this was not a common occurrence. the failure mileage was 13000 and the current mileage was 19000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving approximately between 50 and 55 mph on a mountain road, the brake pedal was applied and the vehicle began to vibrate severely with a squealing noise. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the front brake pads and rotors were replaced. the identical failures occurred on a separate occasion which involved the rear brake pads and rotors. the contact expressed concern of the premature brake wear at such low mileage. the vehicle was being taken to an authorized dealer for repair. the failure mileage was approximately 28,000. updated 11/16/10. *lj
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that as she was attempting to stop, the vehicle did not respond immediately. she felt a shimmy in the steering wheel and had to pump the brakes to get the vehicle to stop. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the rotors needed to be turned. the vehicle was taken to a repair center where she was informed that there was nothing left of the front brakes. the brakes were replaced at the repair center. the contact called the manufacturer who stated that they would reimburse her for the repair. the current and failure mileages were approximately 16,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving approximately 35 mph when pressure was applied to the brakes the contact could hear a squeaking noise. the failure recurred whenever the brakes were applied. an authorized dealer was notified and informed the contact that this was a known failure and he would be responsible for the repair cost. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 19,500 and the current mileage was 20,300.
I have a 2009 dodge journey. i have not had any injuries associated with the issue, however feel as though there is the possibility for injury to occur. the car is 2 years old and already the rotors have been diagnosed as being warped 3 times, one of which the car had only been driven 6000 miles since the warpage and then warped again. completely unacceptable. there is also a problem with the suspension. due to the fact that all this is occurring, i feel as though this could lead to major safety issues. *tr
Having a fairly new vehicle 2009 dodge journey i just needed to get new brake pads and rotors i can believe how bad the brake were at 25,000 miles. *tr
I purchased my 2009 dodge journey in may 2008 -- at 17,000 miles and 2 years later i have been told that my front brakes are totally worn and rotors can not be turned and need to be replaced. i received no warning of the braking failure other than one day grinding and squeaking noises while i drive. i took my car to the shop that day !!! how can a braking system go bad in one day with no warning? i've been told by chrysler that this is normal wear and it was not covered ... how can a braking system fail in 2 years !!! when i mentioned the numerous posts from consumers about the same problem. they offered no other explanation other than "they must be using soft pads ... but we still do not cover this under the warranty. " *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the front passenger side caliper locked while driving 30 mph. when the calipers lock the vehicle began to vibrate and became difficult to steer. the vehicle was in the dealers possession for a month. the dealer stated that the reason the repair took so long was due to the lack of parts in the u.s. the contact does not know why the manufacturer does not have parts. the failure mileage was 35,800.
Brakes making a scraping noise, multiple repair attempts. told not to drive car until caliper and bracket fixed. have already had to replace hub and bearings, caliper and bracket in front, front brakes and rotors and back brakes and rotors. was told by the service representative at dealership that i would probably have to replace brakes every year. *tr
The brake system is horribly undersized for the vehicle. pads and rotors have to be replaced at every 13,000 to 15,000 miles? car has only 30,000 miles and i am having to replace the entire brake system again! also the car now has problems starting with the fob key. sometimes it will start, sometimes it won't. really disappointed with the vehicle and really do not feel safe in it. i am currently trying to trade it in or sell it due to the poor reliability. *tr
At 15,200 miles, my 2009 dodge journey began to make a grinding/crunching noise when brakes were applied, making driving the vehicle dangerous(did not know if the brakes would fail!). service department told me that the rotors, brake pads and calipers needed to be replaced. only the calipers were covered under the warranty. when questioned on how the brakes could go so quickly, staff told me that the vehicles come out of the factory with "softer" pads and the traction control wears them out quickly. just a nice way to describe inferior equipment. i do not have the parts that were replaced, was told they had gotten rid of them prior to my picking up the vehicle after repair. *tr
2009 dodge journey sxt 6 cyl. 3.5 l engine. 2wd. front brakes started to squeal and gouge the rotor on the front left (driver side) after only 20k miles. replaced pads and could not afford to turn rotor also. 58 complaints on autobeef.com and carcomplaints.com about the same problem, same vehicle, same year, same results from dodge and dealers. 'it's normal" and over 12k or 12 months not covered under warranty. all complaints about this to chrysler/dodge and nhtsa have happened between 7k miles and 24k miles... no recall or acknowledgment of this problem by dodge. they refuse to recall and state that they have not heard of this problem from anyone else. read the complaints on autobeef and see how many people have called dodge about this. in most cases, the pads were replaced and new rotors were replaced at owner's expense. in alot of cases, the dealers told the owners that if they turned the rotors, they would be too thin and had to get new rotors. keep in mind that these are cars under 25k miles. the caliper has not been addressed as part of the problem but the pads and rotors have to be replaced again after only another 10k miles. i think it may be the calipers. dodge needs to recall based on this problem. as a result of the premature brake wear the front tires have wear on the outside treads. it is the brakes and tires!!! safety issue!!!!! *tr
2009 dodge journey- noise with the front driver side brakes. router and brake pad are worn at only 27,000 miles. noise started at under 20,000 miles and has gotten louder and router is in worse condition. dealer stated they could not find any issue with the router or brakes. there is a visible groove in the router and the sound of metal on metal when the car is in motion and the brakes are applied. major premature wear of the brakes and routers. *tr
I own a 2009 dodge journey, which i just loved up until this spring! i had begun to hear alot of dragging noises in the tire area and upon taking it for a tire rotation, i was told i needed to brakes. the car was barely a year old and yes, it did have about 25,000 miles on it. but, i had owned other cars in the past and didn't have to replace the brakes for atleast 3-4 years! i had to replace the pads & rotors at a fee of $500. it's been about 4 months later and again, the noises have returned! i can't afford to replace these items again. it's crazy! i now have to live with the concerns of will my car stop, will i cause an accident because the brakes go out not to mention the constant noise. *tr
My brand new 2009 journey needed front brakes and rotors replaced at 22,000mi!! this seems to be a very common problem as i can go on the internet and find numerous complaint forums regarding the same issue. the dealership said this was normal wear and tear. not covered under warranty. i had to pay for new brakes, rotors out of pocket. *tr
Bought 2009 dodge journey in june 2008. beginning in late april 2010 at appx 26,000 miles brakes began a grinding noise. took to get brakes looked at 2 weeks later and was informed the brakes/rotors were shot. one rotor was completely metal on metal and all the pads needed replacing. for a brand new car with less than 30k miles on it, there is no reason the brakes should have failed. i called the dealership to find out if the rotor was covered under my extended warranty and was told only the first 12k miles were covered. i have owned numerous cars over the years and have never had the brake damage/repairs needed on this car after so little time and miles had been driven on the car. after reading numerous complaints regarding the same issue, chrysler needs to look into the problem. brake repairs cost me $400.00 for a car i bought brand new less than 2 years ago. *tr
Premature brake failure. *tr
I purchased a 2009 dodge journey in july 2008. when i took the vehicle in for an oil change at 8000 miles, i was told the brakes pads would need to be changed soo. by 12,000 miles the brake pads were completely worn and had to be replaced. by 46,000 miles the front brake pads had been replaced 4 times and the rotors were serviced as well as the rear brakes being replaced twice and the rear rotors were replaced once. the warranty did not cover any of these repairs. on april 29 at approx 10:30 the brakes gave out completely. they did not engage at all which resulted in rear ending a charter bus on a busy street. there weren't even skid marks indicating that the brakes had been engaged at all. to top it off, when we tried to move the vehicle off the road, the brakes wouldn't even engage enough to allow the gear to be shifted out of park. *tr
I purchased a 09 dodge journey in march 09.had front brakes pads/rotors replaced at 9k miles, rear brake pads/rotors at 10k miles. i just took back in today for another set of front pads/rotors today at 25k miles. i have also contacted chrysler regarding lemon law in state of tn. upon investigation online found that numerous owners are having the same problems, can you please investigate this? i am happy with the car, just very nervous when driving with my 2 children in the car. i have owned numerous chrysler/dodge vehicles and never had a problem like this. in fact my problems began in july 09 and i have been trying to work with the dealership to get this corrected, i think someone else needs to step in and help the consumers!! *tr
2009 dodge journey. i had to replace the rear brake pads at 18201 miles. this is ridiculous since i also had to replace the front brake pads and rotors at 16301 miles. fortunately, i just got a letter stating i will get reimbursed for the front brake job. i wish they would also send me a letter telling me they will reimburse me for the rear brake job. *tr
At 15,000 miles on my 09 dodge journey, the front brake pads are gone and the front routers warped. the back pads are fine but the back routers are warped. i was told by the dealership this is "normal wear". i have owned numerous new cars and this is not normal. dealership is unwilling to correct this problem. *tr
Brake pads and rotors. brake pads wear away way premature and rotors also wear to fast. *tr
Front brake calipers heat up so much that they've warped 3 sets of rotors. rotors turned at 19,000. replaced at 30,000. start pulsing after first long trip. replaced at 52,000, again, start pulsing after first long trip. this caliper design or material is defective. dealer says it's driving style. very wrong. i have 35 years as a driver/ mechanic. can make front brake pads last over 50,000 miles on most vehicles. this issue causes extreme wheel shake at highway speeds. can be especially dangerous when turning and braking. this is an issue with all dodge journeys equipped with optional 19" wheels. the calipers are too small,or of poor design, to dissipate the heat. i want to request these be recalled to fix this dangerous situation. *tr
Front rotors and front and rear brakes all had to be changed at 21,000 miles and again at 31,000 miles. now rotors require turning again due to pulsation. *kb
I have a 09 journey, bought a year ago. brakes front and back have had to be replaced and need replacement again. interior lights dim when wipers or other electronic controls are operated. engine makes noise as though the lifters aren't getting oil--had it in shop for that and they can't find anything and it is getting worse. right side front wheel sounds like bearing is having issues too. product is dangerous--brakes and not being taken care of under warranty--dealer, have 26,000 miles on it
I purchased a 2009 dodge journey, in may of 2009. by march 22, 2010, the brakes were completely gone. the pads were metal to metal and the rotors were completely shot. the vehicle had 22,200 miles on it. i have a 3 year and 36,000 mile warranty which don jackson is trying not to honor. *dt
Brakes, tires and electrical system. i have to get new tires already and i only have 36,000 miles on the car. i have had to change the brakes front and back 3 times already. i am about to have to change the rotor on all 4 wheels. when i turn the windshield wipers off the head lights flash off and back on. then while driving the dash lights will flash off and on again. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while the vehicle was parked, the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. the dealer performed a diagnostic test and stated that there were pieces of metal in the transmission fluid pan. the dealer reset the check engine light accordingly. the contact also experienced brake failure in the past and the vehicle was repaired on three separate occasion for brake failure. the approximate failure mileage was 20,200 and the current mileage was 28,000.
2009 dodge journey r/t have replaced front pads 3 times, have replaced rotors and had rotors resurfaced. rear brakes pads and rotors replaced. vehicle will shake at highway speed and when attempting to stop. sometimes when attempting to stop brakes will grind and have difficulty stopping. service manager at dealership has told me the vehicle is not safe, however, have yet to receive assistance to remedy ongoing situation regarding braking system and components. *tr
On monday, march 8, 2010, my wife, two year old daughter and i suffered a third episode of the following dangerous malfunctions: steering, transmission and drivetrain issues that, without notice, result in an unbearable screeching and grinding noise emanating from underneath the vehicle at speeds between 15 and 30 mph, a pause and hesitation in acceleration between speeds of 15 and 30 m.p.h. that causes the car to jump forward, the immediate loss of accurate steering and a burning smell throughout the car interior we suffered the most recent episode, without notice, while driving through rush hour traffic at 7:45 a.m. we waited two hours for a tow truck to arrive. fortunately, my wife and daughter were only shaken, but not injured. in the last three months, we have had an unsafe rear tire replaced, sunroof parts replaced for constant leaking, a new electronic module installed to prevent the episodes of the entire electronic system malfunctioning causing the loss of car function and door locks and multiple power steering parts replaced. *tr
