We have classified the 3 complaints from 1999 Dodge Intrepid about EQUIPMENT into the following categories.
1999 dodge intrepid 2.7 motor. after replacing the motor in 2006 35 days after buying it lasted till about sept of 2008. had to put in all new timing chain kit. car ran for about a week and then broke down again. had a mechanic look at it and now the right rear rod is shot. with all the money i have put into this car i think i should of just parked it at daimler chrysler and put a sign on it saying what a piece of '!@#$%. cannot get anything for it trading it in all dealers know about this issue and want noting to do with it. *tr
For the past 3 or 4 years now i have been having engine related problems with my car. recently things got worse. my heat will not work unless the car is moving, grayish spoke coming from the exhaust pipe and overheating. i went to a website that was talking about my type of car and the many engine troubles other people are having. the website claimed that i could receive help with getting my car fix due to the many defects with the engines of these cars. the website described everything my car is doing now. *tr
First, the check engine light came on. i took it to the dealer where i got it from to find out that the egr valve needed to be changed, did this. then i drove it for 1 week and the check engine light came on again, took it back to the dealer to find out that there is a problem with the crank shaft and that it will be very costly to have it repaired. all of this happened when i was driving it. the car began to shake and i got very scared. i only had the car for 3 months and in the 3 months all of these problems have erupted. i need some justice in getting these problems addressed so that the car can be fixed without cost to me when checking the internet and finding out that this is a major problem with these cars. it is something that dodge knows that these cars have those problems and they are not honoring helping the owners fix them. *tr
I have a 1999 dodge intrepid that blew a rod at 72,000 miles with no warning. we replaced the engine for about $3,000 and two weeks ago at 102,000 miles i started to hear a rapping sound that was probably another rod, but before the engine could blow another rod something in the timing snapped, so now i am left with a lawn ornament that i can't afford to fix and i am still paying for. not to mention the various other items we have had to replace like the a/c condenser for $600.00 and the speed sensors, that was another $300.00. this car is the biggest lemon i have ever bought. *nm
I have a 1999 dodge intrepid. this car had 70000 miles, most of them highway miles. the timing chain broke due to excessive oil sludge. this car has had regular 3000 miles oil changes, and i am finding out this was common occurrence with the 2.7l v6 engine. now, because of the high demand for these engines ,rebuiling costs are in excess fo $4,000, and a new engine runs around $8,000.*ak
1999 dodge intrepid water pump and timing chain failed. *mr the vehicle would not start while at the gas station. the vehicle never ran hot or made loud noises and there were no indications of a problem. the consumer was informed per service dealer that the engines had serious problems. the consumer felt that maybe in was not necessary to replace the entire engine at 59,500 miles. chrysler was not willing to refund the consumer some or all of the monies spent on repairs. *sc the a/c evaorator coil, fan resistor and trunk lock master cylinder which were all in perfect working order pror to being serviced at the dealership failed to work properly after vehicle was pick up from service. dealership claimed problems were unrelated. *tt
In the summer of 2003, a/c failed to blow cold air. dealership tested the system and found no leak, but for a fee, would further test the system. no repairs were done due to price of service. in the summer of 2004, still had no a/c, and dealership has told me the evaporator coil has failed to operate. they want approximately $1300 to fix the problem. i will not go to their service as i have found an independent mechanic who will fix the problem for approximately $800. i have had the transmission recall fixed, the driver's seat bolt recall fixed, and the right front window motor replaced. all of these things have been found defective by many customers as found on this web site. are refunds available for these common complaints? i'm tired of spending hard earned money to fix what apparently seems like manufacturer flaws.*ak
Consumer was unable to shift to 3rd gear. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak the vehicle has a triptronic shift which allows the driver to drive fully automatic or manually shift with just a touch. when the temperature dropped below twenty degrees the shifter became frozen solid and the consumer was unable to shift out of park until the outside temperature was above freezing. because of this feature this malfunction the triptronic feature is no longer accessible. the vehicle also has air conditioning problems that limit it's ability to cool the vehicle on days with high humidity. *nm
When i left the house the car was ok, i drove to my friend house the car started making a real loud noise. i shut the car off. it wouldn't start up again, i had to have it tow to shop where i bought it. i was told the timing chain was out and it would be cheaper to get another engine. now this is where the fun being. we had a difficult time finding a engine. once we did and had it put in the car, it didn't work. we brought the engine from t&m auto salvage in canton. they put another engine in the car. i drove the car about 3 months when it starting making a strange noise the warranty had expired. therefore, we took the car to the dodge dealership. they had the car a month or two. they told me they steamed clean the engine because it was sludge build up and they had to take the engine apart to replace the timing chain. now the car still isn't working correctly for whatever reason we can not afford to find out. *jb
My husband bought me a 1999 dodge intrepid in november of 2003 with a 2.7 engine and the oil sludges up in the motor no matter how often it is changed causing problem. in march of this year problems began to become apparent because of the sludging. the timing chain guides were chewed up inside of the engine causing damage and costing $450.00 the mechanic said that, because of the oil sludge, this is a common occurrence in the 2.7 engines. three months, this june, later the engine begins making more noise now the rod bearings are shot because of the sludging problem, the mechanic has to rebuild the engine cost an approximately $1200.00. i am without a car and a clue of how to pay for the engine repair and still making payments on the car. i have done research since these problems and have read many stories about people like me in the same situation. i have contacted chrysler about my problems and received not compensation for my troubles. they have a file on me and stated that there is nothing they will do. *la
1999 dodge intrepid engine seized at only 5600 miles. the dealer said that there is a sludge build up in the engine. the engine needs to be replaced. i was told from at least 10 different auto shops that the 2.7 liter dodge engine is poorly made and that they have seen this same problem time and time again. it runs way too hot and if you don't change the oil every 1500 miles or so, sludge will build up in the engine and cause seizure. there should be a recall on this 2.7 engine or a class action law suit against dodge.*ak
Driver power window motor failed twice, now the window has to be held in place for it to roll up straight and go into place. also, plastic on driver door under black 'speaker' cracked with no impact. passenger rear door entire interior door assembly has separated from the metal and has to be 'popped' back in repeatedly. air conditioner system fails yearly. multiple reasons. trunk leaks terribly. rear air/heat vents don't blow air anymore and the car isn't even 4 years old! *jb
Various sensor problems. have replaced on several occasions. motor has been replaced twice, and going on it's third repair. have yet to replace any power window/door/seat.
The car has had a/c problems. electrical problems. window problems. transmission problems. and the 2.7 motor has been out of service since 2003! i need help. i still owe $8000.00 plus on this thing and i have not been able to use it since the fall of 2003. thank you. *jb
While driving and without warning the evaporator failed. *nlm
Air conditioning stopped emitting cold air. had system checked for leaks and found that the evaporator coil under the dash had a leak. mr
At about 60,000 miles i notice a ticking sound in the engine i took it in to the local dodge dealership and it was determined to be a lower bearing noise that would ultimately ruin the engines. as the noise got worse i feared driving it anymore . my maintenance contract did not cover engine cost but only affected bearings and this would not be covered by any dealer or manufacture warranty. i subsequently replaced the engine with a used engine which lasted one year and left me stranded beside the road requiring a tow and my vehicle has sat for 2 years with the cost of engine replacement almost doubling. i think an engine recall is in order as i have experienced several; people stopping to ask if the intrepid is for sale because they have one with a bad engine. *nm
When attempting to change tire on the right front with the jack, the jack collapsed, failing hitting the ground damaging the front right rotor, etc. please describe details
Ever since i purchased my 1999 dodge intrepid at the dodge downtown la, many problems have occurred. the first problem was that sensors in the car kept blowing out, heater/ac went out and window motor blew out. all of these problems occurred more then once.dodge downtown la could never determine what was wrong with the vechicle. a couple of weeks later, the engine blew out. all together i have spent $3000 for my car. i wish i would have knew what was wrong with my car before the problem got worse.dodge downtown of la was not helpful to me in my situation.
Steering: i started to feel a slight binding in the steering when trying to return wheel to center from a turn. it got progressively worse to the point where i occasionally had to "wrestle" the steering wheel back to center position. it also feels loose, suspension rattles and i've got 4 inches of play at center. took it to the dealer and was informed it would cost $1200 to fix. service rep tried to explain that this was pretty common nowadays with the sealed racks and not just dodge. i've never experienced this type of failure in all of the years i've owned cars and think this is just a poor design that dodge is keeping mum about. the vehicle is only 3 years old with mostly highway driving. i'm purchasing a used rack from a salvage yard and having dodge install it for $380 and then i'm selling it. this car is quickly falling apart. air conditioning: started hearing a hissing type sound from behind the dash. soon after a/c did not blow cold air. control module display also stopped working. dodge said in order to fix the a/c they had to repair the module. cost: about $600. i bough a module from a salvage yard and did it myself, saved $500. then dodge recharged the system only to have it leak out over the next several days. brought it back to dodge where they found a crack in the evaporator. replacement cost: $500. power window motor: right front power window started failing intermittently, then stopped working altogether. dealer said that the window sometimes gets stuck in the tight weatherstripping due to dirt and grime on the window and i simply need to coax it by my palm pressing down on it while actuating the button. what a bunch of @*$%! rear right window motor was replaced under warranty, this must be a common problem. dealer wants $200+ to repair. what a racket! i've never had so many major repairs on a relatively new car in my life, and don't plan to ever again if dodge knows what i mean!!*ak
I purchased this vehicle in march of 2001. i have had nothing but trouble with it ever since. i have had electrical, air conditioning, and transmission problems which has resulted in approximately $2,600 in repairs in the year that i have owned it. i have contacted the crysler corp. and they did not help me in anyway. the car orignally had a 36,000 mile 3 year warranty on it. now the crysler corp. offers a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty on all their vehicles. this the first crysler product and the last one i will ever buy. i have previously owned gm products and currently own a 1997 ford f-150 pickup and i am very satisfied with it. is there any help you can give me? i have all receipts for all repairs since i have owned the vehicle. *ak
A/cevaporator has gone out in my car. additionally, the sensor on transmission went out 4 months ago. my mechanic says the exhaust system has rust spots. all people who have looked at the car say these problems shound not be happening on a car with only 48,000 miles. *ak
Car was 4 months old - driving down i-70 and had a blowout. the tire split clean in to. was told that i must of hit a pot hole. on 9/13/99 i had taken the car into the dealership and told them the tire was losing air. they said they couldn't find a problem, aired up the tire and i left. little over a month later i had a blow out. i did not hit a pot hole. the tire was defective. i had to replace the tire with my own money.*ak (tiresize: p205/70r15)
The automatic temperature control is not working. it only blows fan air. i've had the car serviced by the dealership who determined that the problem was the a/c module on the dashboard so they replaced it. afterwards, the a/c was working properly, but a month later after a long trip it stopped working again. i am baffled to what the problem is. i have gone to several websites which record car owner's complaints, and they have similar complaints with the same vehicle described above. i will post an announcement through these websites to direct their compaints to nhtsa. thank you. *ak
Right rear window does not work from driver console switch or window switch....air conditioner damper does not open to allow cool air to flow....temp control must be turned to hot zone and then brought back to cool zone...air flow cools immediately. *ak
Ac fans had to be replaced twice, rear windows won't go down, dealer replaced light switch, brakes wear unevenly and shudders when pressed, alignment goes easily, oil disappears with no leaks or no smoke, back of driver's seat collapses unexpectedly. *nlm
