I had an accident yesterday when trying to park the car accelerated to the point that i hit a garage door damaging the car inside, all while my foot was on the brake pedal pressing very hard. when i put the car in reverse while my foot was on the brake the car shoot back at tremendous speed, it would not stoped regardless of my foot pressing on the brake as far as the brake goes. i hit a car parked on the street with such force that pushed it on top of the sidewalk causing extensive damage. i,was,,traveling up 38th street in union city and in the process of parking a my friend's driveway, turning from the street while applying the brakes lightly. i believe the problem is on the accelerator, it acceleratedm on its own when i attempted to stop. the car is right now at a shop, they will run a diagnostic and send an estimate of the body damage. i have contacted my insurance company for them to have the car mechanical functions. probably a broken axel on the rear wheels.
My 2007 dodge grand caravan se can be easily shifted into gear while in auxiliary power, and it sometimes locks out my brakes, as there is a locked steering wheel you can't steer it and can't turn it on without shifting back to park which can be difficult if the brakes lock. a child could easily set it in gear if you are running the air and you leave the car briefly, i do not have kids but i do run some taxi work in the neighborhood. it could be done anywhere as long as it's in auxiliary power to radio and electrics but not fully on
I was in allentown and my brake pedal drifted halfway to the floor while at the stop light. i was at pep boys and they bleed the brakes. that seemed to do the trick. here we are two weeks later and the brake pedal is getting spongy and drifting again. therefore no fluid leaks any place. there have been similar complaints on online boards. i paid cash for this van july 1 2019 . i should not have this problem. this is a manufacturer defect and is a safety hazard for myself and my passengers. not to mention other people on the road or crosswalks.*dt*jb
The brake switches on these vehicles may malfunction, keeping the brake lights illuminated. this is the same warning in the recall for 2017 dodge caravans, yet my vin is not included in the recall, and chrysler is refusing to fix. the current recall says " chrysler (fca us llc) is recalling certain 2017 dodge caravan and jeep wrangler vehicles. the brake switches on these vehicles may malfunction, keeping the brake lights illuminated and/or allowing the vehicle to be shifted out of the park position without the brake pedal being pushed."
There have been several issues with this vehicle all happening within several months. we first had issues with the tire tread, then a hole in the water hose and radiator, a hole in the exhaust manifold. then it was broken pieces in the catalytic converter. now the current issue is either the brakes seized up or the the caliber is stuck and we are currently unable to drive the vehicle.
February my husband and i financed this car and within less than one month we been experiencing one issue after another. first, the heater hose had a hole in it then after that was the radiator then after we replaced those two now we have a issue with the exhaust modifier as well a issue with the brakes today the tires locked up on us. could be related to the issues thats been reported on the newer dodge grand caravans.

10/19/2019, vehicle stationary: the driver's side rear caliper froze in the full-on position when lightly using the emergency brake. i was just a mile from home and drove it to my garage (less that 30 mph). it was dangerously hot and would have caused a fire and major breakdown had i been on my 18-hour freeway commute. i jacked up the rear, removed the tire and saw that the e-brake spring had not returned the caliper to the brake off position. i was able to return it by lightly tapping the e-brake lever to the off position. at that point the brake caliper mostly worked as it should. however, re-applying the e-brake would again refreeze the brake to full on. i replaced with a mopar oem caliper and all is well again. i suspect the e-brake mechanism within the caliper failed. all my mileage is extended freeway commuting between two different state residences. the front brake pads have never been replaced and still measured 5/16' thick. the original rear pads had at least half their life span and i did not replace ...
