Problems with 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 74 800 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan

Intermittent no start issue. only happens when the vehicle is warm, i stop for a quick stop, and attempt to restart vehicle; no start - no crank, no click, no hum, no hiss, nothing. after 30 minutes to an hour the vehicle will start with no issues. have had vehicle to dealership two different occasions yet unable to recreate the no start issue. starter is good, alternator is good. has happened in warm weather and in cold weather and has happened a dozen times or more since december 16, 2019.

Both rear auto doors automatically shut as soon as they open. they do not stay open long enough to safely remove my disabled child from the rear seating. it has become a safety hazard. if i turn automatic feature off, it does the same thing still. as soon as the door opens all the way, it automatic shuts itself. this has been an issue for a few weeks now.

Van was in motion on city street (taking daughter to school) when it started shaking and then there was a burning smell. auto shop said it's electrical but has referred us to dealership for further auto service because whatever caused burning smell "shorted out the radio / information control unit" the van is not safe to drive with this issue or it could catch fire.

Our family purchased a dodge grand caravan 2011 in october of 2018. within two weeks of purchasing the vehicle, it broke down on the freeway. it acted a s if it had run out of gas. it lost all power and the power steering went out. once i got over to the shoulder, i tried restarting it. it would make noise like it was going to start, but would not fire all the way back up. after about 10-20 minutes, i tried again and it started back up. we went to take it back to the dealership, because we need a safe, reliable vehicle for our family, but the dealership had gone out of business. the exact issue has repeated 8 times, since the first time in october. there is never any warning and you have very little time to try and coast somewhere once the vehicle stops working. as you can imagine, it is very stressful with little kids. also, we live in utah, where there is mountains and canyons and snow and switchbacks, making it even more perilous. after researching the problem, we see that there are many dodge vehicles having the same issue, yet no recall has been done to make this right. please fix this! we don't want to die!

The tipm module completely failed causing damage to the fuel pump. from preliminary research this is a known issue that dodge has failed to address with this model. vehicle will not start. have had intermittent propulsion issue which causes the vehicle to be sluggish thus causing a danger to driver and occupants in traffic situations

Would not start . dealer said was tipm. other people with vehicle like mine said theirs did same thing then stalled on road and got rear ended thank god that part didn't happen to me but it could have. safety issue ???? i had trouble getting it to start then i could here something running in the back by gas cap didn't know what it was. the next morning i went out to try to start it and the battery was dead. the pump in the gas tank was what was running and drained the battery. got a jump from repair place in town. drove it when i got home and then have to leave in morning it would not start like it wasn't getting any gas. turned over just would not fire. had to have it towed to dealer. only had 86000 miles on it.

Just found out that the rear evaporator core of our ac unit is bad and will need to be replaced at a cost of approximately $750.00. apparently, this is a known and wide-spread issue on this particular model of vehicle, dating back as far as 2005.

My van has had electrical type issues since we purchased it, but in the last couple years they have imagnified. every issue starts with the car smoking and some sort of light coming on (engine, battery etc..) many times i take it in and the dash light is no longer illuminated or they can not find anything wrong with it and reset the electrical panel. i have replaced the battery numerous times, alternator three times (last time it was completely burnt out and the time before it was completely melted). transmission lines and coolant lines. the last time my headlights were replaced the wires were charred and frayed. last night my son was pulled over by the police because the officer noticed the car was smoking. he popped the hood to let the smoke clear (my son said the smoke had a copery taste). after it cleared the van started and drove fine. this is after having the alternator replaced (for the third time) just last week. the technicians at the shop have never seen these kinds of problems before and the guy at interstate battery said he has never seen a car deplete a battery like mine does. with all these issue being associated with the words melting, charring, smoking, it really concerns me that one day my van is going to catch on fire or blow up and this is not normal for any vehicle, but especially one that has been taken care of and maintained. i have friends with the same van and similar mileage (155,000) and they have not had any of these issues. i contacted dodge who referred me to the nhtsa and the local dealership. please help!!!

Passenger side blows always blow hot air even when the setting is on cold air. driver side works ok but the same time passenger side having problem. it blows hot air irespective of the setting.

Tipm failing. we began having issues with what was thought to be fuel pump and have had the car in the shop to replace the fuel pump without resolution. i was recently driving and had the car shut off on a 55mph zone of a highway with 3 kids plus myself and husband in the car for 45 minutes blocking a lane of traffic while waiting to be towed. we have had the car strand us in various locations 5 times since we bought the car 08/17. we have been researching that it looks to be the tipm that is malfunctioning and causing the fuel pump to run randomly, sometimes continuously for hours draining the battery, or stop running causing the car to die due to lack of fuel while having all headlights, wipes and interior lights functioning. the tipm has caused me to block lanes of traffic on highways, business driveways and be stuck in parking lots 60+ miles from my home due to the fuel pump not shutting off when the car is turned off.

Van on several occasions does not want to start. put key in ignition, turn it, no noise, no sound of trying to turn over, just nothing. september of 2017 had to have van towed as it did this. mechanic said needed a fuel pump. fixed that but problem continued. march 1, 2018 take it back and it is now a starter, key fob thing that is hit and miss and that is why it was hard to find. now that's another $1100 to try to fix problem. have no choice as you have to have a reliable vehicle with children.

Al encenderlo aveces no arranca tengo este problema como 7 meses y a la segundo intento prende o aveces une tercera vez medicen que es el switch

2011 dodge grand caravan.. i was thankfully sitting infront of the high school waiting for my daughter to come out. my van was running. i had radio on and windows down. nothing else on no air conditioning or anything. the dash lights all come on all of a sudden and off. van is dead. i turn the key off and back on and nothing. i get jumped. drive the 4 blocks to my house barely get in the drive and parked. i couldn't even get the windows up. about 2 hrs later my neighbor comes over to jump me again so i can get my windows up. get them up. we were going to take it to advance to get it hooked to their gadget. i didn't get two houses down before i had to pull over because my van didn't know what gear it was in. my back up camera was even on. if this happened on the highway my children and i could have easily been killed.

Tipm needing to be replaced due to all warning light and wipers cutting on, doors not functioning, all electrical malfunctioning. motor cutting off low speed. 20 codes listed. dodge is willing to replace for around $1000 my cost.

Car has a hard time starting or will cut of while driving. almost got in accident while slowing down for red light.

Tipm bad. i've taken my van to the dodge dealer several times for it cranks but not start. runs rough, accelerates by it self sometimes, windows went down by themselves. they "diagnosed" it and came up with different things, i'm sure never needed such as housing-thermostat, crankshaft position sensor, o2 oxygen sensor. still running same way and not starting. then they said i needed a new fuel pump. i had a different mechanic put that on because he said it would be a few weeks before he could get a fuel pump. couple days later same crap. next day my van was completely dead, jump started it, turned it off and never would start again! couldn't hear the fuel pump come on at all! now i've spent $1,100 and still can't drive it!! dodge does not care about their paying customers!!!! please help me!!!!!!!!! i am on a fixed income, i can't afford all this!!!!

The car has been shutting off while my wife is driving with my kids in the car. i have taken the vehicle to the dealership twice now for the same problem. i just got my car back yesterday 6/28/16 after the dealership had been working on it for a month and half. while my wife was driving today 6/29/16 the same thing happened again. it happens suddenly without any warning so there is no way for her to pull over, she has to remove the ignition key right where she is at and then turn the car back on. this is very concerning because it can cause an accident since there is no way of telling when the car will shut off. i have read many complaints about the same thing happening to other people with same problem. i do not understand why this vehicle has not been recalled.

In june 2013 we had to replace the battery and alternator. now in jan 2016 we had to replace the battery again and after running diagnostic we found out the the tipm needs to be replaced. the vehicle will try to crank however it will not always turn over.

Bought vehicle 10 mths ago. have had trouble with it starting. anti theft system came on, battery drained and key locked in ignition. could not get it out without charging battery. vehicle is now not wanting to start every time. took to dealer, found out has faulty tipm. parts on back order and will end up costing almost $1200 to repair. still owe $14000 for vehicle and have to get repairs. this vehicle was purchased for my 89 year old mother so that she would be able to put her electric scooter in the back of it for travel. company this was purchased at, i am sure knew of the issue, just as i am sure they knew of recall on a window switch that wasn't repaired. if this part is not repairs, steering can go out while driving, amongst other fatal things, such as brakes going out or stalling middle of driving. dealer trying to blame other company for installing faulty tipm, when it is the company's faulty part.

*the fuel pump does not turn off *trouble starting car and some days just will not start at all *the engine stalls while driving; twice on the freeway luckily no accident. *the horn randomly will go off. * said the key was in the ignition when it wasn't

I have been having problems with my van cranking. so i took it to my dealer.they changed the fuel pump and it continued to do the same thing. so they replaced relays. they kept my van for over three weeks, but claimed they never could get it to do anything. but every time i get in it in the morning it still does the same thing. when you turn the key to crank it, it continues to try to crank. but if you turn the key off then to right before it cranks, do this a couple of times then it will crank. i asked if anyone ever drove it to see if it did the same thing with them and they said no. needless to say it is still doing the same thing and no one has bother to contact me to fix the problem. and my van has always had service at the dealership. i want my van back the way it was!!!!!!!!!!

When driving at 30mph my van accelerated on its on without the gas pedal being touched. i had to push my brakes, i then pulled over. when attempting to drive my van again it did the same thing again. my malfunction indicator light came on the dash after the second acceleration. i then had my car towed.

Ac quit functioning; auto repair shop informed me that the ac lines run parallel to brakelines, often resulting in ac lines that are compromised by friction. the mechanic considers this a "design flaw" and has seen it in numerous dodge grand caravans, but usually older models and/or higher mileage than mine. the ac lines are all part of a singular system, so the part needs to be ordered from chrysler (who is backordered); i was informed that it is at least a 2-day job to install. estimated cost: $675.

When i try to start the car it will not start. this has happened multiple times and will eventually start after trying up to 30 times. the battery and the starter have been replaced and the issue continues to happen. also jumping the car does not help

I contacted fox negaunee for repair of the "rear quarter vent window switch recall" on 04/15/2015. i made a follow up call a few months later. i still have not been contacted for repair of this recall. i have not experienced an issue with the part; however, as a recall, it should have been fixed in a timely manner. i am disappointed. i keep getting these notices in the mail. when i called initially, i was told i was 60th in line.

Tipm is bad. confirmed with dodge dealership service center. problem cranking in the morning and especially in cold temperatures. brake light comes on and off while driving among other sensors. very dangerous and must be recalled.

The van has had a number of recent issues with not starting, or stalling after the car was already running. both issues are dangerous (being stranded or car cutting off randomly). the dealership said they had to replace the tipm. after doing research on my own, this appears to be a common issue, and the repair is over $1000. i can't believe there has not yet been a recall for this, but feel strongly that one should be issued.

Boniface heirs dodge in merritt island, florida disable the rear quarter window switch due to a fire hazard - the switch catching fire - well it has been 7 months and they keep saying dodge has not sent them a switch - one reason i bought the van was the rear quarter vent windows - my hubby smokes and it is good ventilation along with his passenger window open - well now the smoke stays in the van - and when i call or go in and ask about the switch - i get the run around and i can't afford to buy another van - and if i do then it will have the same problem - all i really want is a good switch and it fixed so that my van will work like it did when i bought it. can you help me with that - i realize i am only 1 person and a women at that - but we buy cars and all types of things. *tr

In my 2011 dodge grand caravan, while turning the key to the on position to start the car the key gets stuck in the starting/on position making the car not turn over but make noise as if im trying to start the car, while its already started & it's not. i physically have to turn the key back to the off position because it won't snap back by itself. & keep trying again until it will finally start. also while driving the car, it will shut off with no warning causing loss of power steering, leaving me to force the car to a safe zone to put the car in park and try to turn the car on. while googling this problem i see there's a problem with the wind modular/detent ring/igniton switch being recalled in 2008-2010 models. i took it to dodge dealership service department explained the problem and they ran a diagnosis, and they cleaned out the ignition switch and updated the system, and told me to remove my car key from my key chain and then told me nothing was wrong with the car. everyday since then the problem seems to be getting worst. and naturally i'm outside of my 36,000 limited warranty by 2 months by date and 10 miles over. (p.s) this seems to be the same problem that i seen in the news that gm originally knew about this problem since 2001 and my car is a 2011 and here it is 2014 with over 31 crashes and 13 deaths over faulty ignition switches and gm still continues to put not only my family lives at risk but many others. *js

Smoke coming from driver side rear brake. pulled over and inspected. coming from brake. removed tire and saw that the emergency brake was a activated due to a spring had broke. i have p spring was rusted. we have had similar heating problrms in the past with both rear wheels.i have pictures of spring at the time of inspection on the side of the highway with all my children in the vehicle. this has been a reacurring problem with wheels over heating. we even took it to the dealership in the past and they said all looks normal?

My van shut off in the middle of traffic on north roxboro road on the way to northern high school. i was protected until aaa came and towed my car to the dealer. i rented a car and i paid for the 1st week of the rental and the other week was cared for by the dealer. it is unknown what was wrong with the vehicle at this point in time. once this happened, a few months later the car began to cut off at the gas station the day before my family was about to travel out of town. once it cut off we had to drive another car that was not working well to our destination. aaa jump started my van in order for me to get back to the dealership. the advised me that i needed a new battery, however the dealership i was told that if the battery was low and i received a jump start i should drive the car. i tried and turned around once again to the dealership. i waited 30 minutes before someone was able to push my van into the lot. my car was held most of the day and at the end of the day they told me i needed a battery. i called my husband to discuss the matter, he wanted to discuss the information with them and they were asking for a large amount of money to fix not only the battery, but the alternator as well. the alternator was not the problem i was told originally. i had only brought the car to their location. they wanted almost a $1000.00 to fix my van. i had aaa tow my van away, aaa brought me a new battery and they tested and found that the alternator was the main source of my problems. the last time my van shut off it had all of the lights on. the voltage light, the abs brake lights, the oil lights, the air bag lights and the battery light. it has been in and out of commission. i had at least 3 incidences that involved my children and feel that our lives were at stake. i need to have a resolution in this matter without being required to buy a new plan. i feel cheated. *tr

Well from the time i purchased the car i told the dealer about the ignition. the car speeding off while i'm driving in a regular street or highway. the warning lights doesn't warn . enough is enough. riding in the car in street yesterday once again the steering wheel locked in me in traffic and it shut down. no warning. so dangerous. there is no way there should be so many complaints about the same issues and they not have a recall and repairs .my alternator actually fried and we could have been killed along with my children!!!! i'm scared. im paying $500.00 dollars a month for a vehicle that is sitting and i can't drive. please give hello me to get justice.
