We have classified the 478 complaints from 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Vehicle shuts off while in motion when i hit a bump. it happens at any speed. i have had to coast to the shoulder of the interstate in order to restart the vehicle. this very problem was recalled in vehicles manufactured through may 2010, but my vehicle is outside of the recall, as it was manufactured in september 2010. this is a very serious safety issue.
Beginning september 2017 to december 2017 (present): multiple issues related to electrical: (1) engine stalled while driving at 30 mph (city street, driving straight), and lost power steering and brakes; (2) electrical system warning light has been coming on from september 2017 to december 2017 (present). light often comes on when power window buttons are pressed; battery has been checked; alternator has been replaced twice (!) in december 2017 and warning light still comes on; (3) windows roll themselves down when vehicle is not running; this happened multiple times in winter and cold weather, there is no chance the window was left down by the driver; (4) head and tail lights blink when vehicle is not running; (5) rear seat power outlet not working; (6) rear defroster not working; (7) side mirror defrosters not working. research into others with similar problems suggest defective tipm.
Vehicle not starting randomly. when you try to start it just clicks once and won't turn over. after a few minutes it will start. i have found 1,000's of reports of the same issue for this same make model and year. please fix this issue.
Tl* the contact inquired about a 2010 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a loss of engine power on various occasions and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to stew hansen chrysler jeep dodge ram (12103 hickman rd, urbandale, ia) where it was diagnosed that the win module was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified and provided case number: 33461717. no further assistance was offered and the contact was referred to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
My van will just shuts off with no warning while i am driving. i lose my power steering and power brakes and hard to control. i then have to try to safely pull over and it will just start right back up
Van will very randomly not start as if the battery is dead but it is not. it will start fine for weeks and suddenly not start and then start again later and be gone for weeks again.
While driving the engine stopped and i lost power steering. after turning off the car and putting it into park i was able to restart the car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the vehicle randomly stalled. the vehicle was able to restart after the failure occurred. providence auto (717-284-9900, located at 796-804 lancaster pike, quarryville, pa 17566) was unable to duplicate and diagnose the failure. the dealer advised the contact to change the battery terminal. the contact heeded the dealer's advice, but the failure continued. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
Now, in addition to stalling at any time and any speed, at times the van will not start (wont even turn over) and the windows intermittently work. clearly it's a totally integrated power module (tipm) issue. folks, check out how incompetent the nhtsa is, go to http://www.chryslerproblems.com/trends/tipm/ so many tipm issues that the nhtsa refuses to address until some of us die.
We have a 2010 dodge grand caravan sxt with 133,000 miles and since the day we got it back in july all it has done while driving is shut down/shut itself off. lights on dashboard will come on, flash and van will just shut down. key refuses to come out at times, have no hazard lights when this happens, and it can take anywhere from 5-30 minutes for the van to even start again. this happens on the interstate and in the city, doesnt matter really where we are, even at stop lights/stop signs
Will not start, ,dies from time to time
My 2010 dodge grand caravan began having issues about 6 months ago. the abs light would light up and beep on and off and was taken to the dealership and they stated they could not determine the problem without it occuring at that time. as months went on the problem became worse. all the dashboard lights began turning on and off headlights would dimmer, clock and radio would shut off. took to a few mechanics and none could determine the problem. the problem got worse battery light began staying lit. we then replaced the battery and the battery cables. the problems persisted, we took to another mechanic who stated the alternator needed to be replaced. we replaced the alternator and the vehicle was fine for three weeks, then the problem started again all the lights lit up, the air went in and out, the radio shut off and out of nowhere the car shut off while about to turn at an intersection with my children in the van. we have taken the vehicle to many different mechanics even the dealership and none of them can determine what is causing this issue. through the internet i see that we are not alone with this problem. i don't know what to do besides attempt to get rid of the vehicle. this is the vehicle i bought to transport my children; i've been paying for rental cars because i'm scared to drive it. with as many complaints as i've seen for this issue you would think there should be a recall. someone is going to be seriously hurt or dead if they don't do something about this.
Tl* the contact's mother owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that on several occasions, the front and rear drivers side, and the front and rear passenger side windows became inoperable. all mentioned windows would independently open and close. the contact also stated that all of the doors locked and unlocked independently. the contact mentioned that the a.c. unit failed. the vehicle was taken to all star dodge chrysler jeep ram at 11503 st charles rock rd, bridgeton, mo 63044, (314) 291-2050 where it was diagnosed that the power control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 125,393. updated 09/01/17*lj the consumer stated the back windows would roll down and the sliding side door would open and close, even after the alarm was set. *js
Problem with key fob and ignition switch. van does not shut off when key fob turned to off position and removed. turned off and removed key fob and was able to put van in gear and drive
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact stated that the vehicle lost total power and had to be restarted. in addition, the vehicle made a clicking noise and would not start on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to be repaired, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 79,940.
Sorry if this is a duplicate i was kicked out before i finished. while driving on a number of occasions engine suddenly stopped. power steering lost, car rolled to stop and was restarted and then driven without problem. when checked we were told it was an ignition switch problem. nhtsa recall bulletin #14v373000 noted this problem but this individual vehicle and probably others are not included in recall. please check.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. while driving 70 mph, all the warning indicators illuminated, the vehicle lost power, and stalled. the contact restarted the vehicle and the brake pedal became very difficult to depress. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was towed to the contact's workplace. the vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who stated that the wireless ignition module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the mechanic stated that the vehicle had already been repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system, air bags). the contact spoke to a dealer and informed the contact that there was no recall and declined to service the vehicle. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
Bought vehicle used from kia dealership august 2016. march 2017 i started experiencing problems with headlights intermittently shutting off either before startup (while parked and ignition off) or during operation (while driving). all other electrical systems seemed fine including amber running lights, tail-lights, turn signals, and brake lights. took vehicle to mechanic july 2017, no issues were found. no problems for 2 weeks, then started experiencing same problem. no recalls or solutions found at this time.
Driving at 10-20 mph, warning lights esp abr and tracing icon flash on and off before engine stalls, happens whether turning, or driving straight. electrical system fails including power steering, radio flashes off, clock goes to 12:00. often at speeds 35 -65 mph, same lights flash on and off 10 to 15 times in various distances of 3 miles - 25 miles before stalling, driving down a winding, mountain road in heavy traffic at night at speeds between 60-70mph, same lights flashed on and off, the speedometer needle instantly dropped down to zero then quickly flipped up to current speed each time lights flashed, then they stayed on while i pulled off the road, it stalled in park position. starts up again without hesitation. once i went 3 miles without incident, upon returning while at a stop light, same warning lights flashed, when the light turned green, engine stalled. i restarted the engine and i was able to proceed through the green light making a left turn, no other stall the rest of the way home. regardless if i'm turning left or right, going up hill or down hill or on city street, whether the engine is cold or hot or temperature outside is hot, cold, or raining. it is random, having purchased this used vehicle only 4 months ago, driven less than 1000 miles, i don't feel safe as a female senior citizen traveling alone any distance in this vehicle, previous owner had the dealer replace fuel pump and computer (twice). i have replaced the 1 year old battery due to a hot to the touch cable to the battery, not generating the proper amount of power, also replaced the original computer with a new computer which did not resolve this issue. numerous complaints were told a win or tipm module would fix this problem which it didn't. 2010 dodge grand caravan recall: ignition replacement. the ignition moves between 'accessories and on' causing engine to stall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled several times with no warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed yet by the dealer elk grove dodge chrysler jeep (8575 laguna grove dr, elk grove, ca 95757, (916) 405-2600) who was notified of the failure. the dealer and the manufacturer both stated that the vehicle was not included in any electrical system recall campaigns and provided no remedy other than the dealer repairing the vehicle which was unacceptable to the contact. the vehicle was not repaired yet. the approximate failure mileage was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. while driving between 30-45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
Driving the vehicle it all of a sudden lost power, steering and braking capability. after research, i find that dodge has had a recall for wireless ignition node which sounds like the problem i am having however my vehicle isn't in the recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the power window master switch did not function. the contact also noticed an abnormal burning odor coming from the master switch. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v234000 (electrical system), but the vin was not included. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I have had my 2010 dodge grand caravan for 1 year. first the alternator went out then the key module then the transmission then the shifting harnesses cable and now the lights keep blinking on and off and the van feels like it has no power the battery was just changed a month ago. this has been the worst vehicle ever and we are scared that it is going to cause a deadly accident. the vehicle gets stuck in gears. and and now keeps shutting off and the headlights keep blinking on and off as well as all the lights in the van. if these are know issues why has there not been a total recall on all these vehicles before a deadly accident does happen. or is it going to take someone to actually die before something is done about all the known issues the makers of these vehicles are aware of.
My van just shut off while doing 55 mph on a highway. no warning signs or check engine lights came on. i had no steering, gas, or breaks when it shut off. the a few days later all the lights on the dash came on then went off but never shut off until a few blocks later when it turned off while driving on a street. and everytime it shuts off i put it in park take the keys out and then restart the van and it acts like nothing ever happened. *tr
While driving the car, the engine shuts off unexpectedly and we lose power steering and brakes. we have to coast to a stop, put it back in park and restart engine and proceed. this happens with no predictability which makes this dangerous. the times that it has happened, the roads have been wet or snow covered. it has also happened on dry roads. traveling at a high rate of speed makes this a dangerous circumstance. since it is unpredictable, we are very nervous to take this car on a highway. we have had the car in to shapiro leon motor sales several times and they cannot find anything that comes up on their diagnostics.they did replace the powertrain control module. this did not make a difference. it continued to shut down. there is no rhyme or reason. they have driven it but it did not shut down for them. i got it inane shortly after leaving , it shut down. we know that there was a recall on the ignition switch through june 2010 but our car was manufactured sept 2010. however all the symptoms that are listed on that recall fit our van's problem perfectly. the dealership does not agree a per their testing. this is not something that we can have happen to us while traveling 65 down the interstate. the only thing that shows up on the dash is the traction control when we lose engine power. please address this problem. *tr
Our 2010 dodge grand caravan stalled 14 times this holiday weekend (more than usual). it stalls at any speed and at any time (warm or cold) and loses all power. have you ever had to shift a vehicle into neutral at 70 mph and restart it on an expressway in holiday traffic (with no power steering or power brakes)? well it really puts the family in a jolly mood. dealer claims not to be able to figure it out (because the error codes are not recorded in the vehicle computer since there is no power). based on all of the exact same complaints i see for this vehicle, it's obvious to me that it's a totally integrated power module (tipm) issue. any idiot performing a little research on google can figure it out. however, nhtsa can't seem to figure it out. see nhtsa action number: dp14004. nhtsa ' there's enough complaints out there to support further investigation. feel free to contact me if you want to take our rolling death trap for a fun-filled family trip.
Van intermittently stop shifting while driving (city or highway) and i have to pull over and restart to drive again. air conditioning blower also goes out intermittently. lots of error codes reported via obd2 and all are electrical related. took it to multiple auto part stores and local dodge dealership, all said it was a faulty tipm.
After noticing the ignition switch was not always working, i contacted the dealer and learned there was a recall on the ignition switch. after giving them my vin # they said they will not replace the ignition switch under the recall. if i want to replace the switch it will be at my own expense. i fill if there is a safety recall for my vehicle it should be at there expense!! please advise. *tr
The van will intermittently fail to start, or it sputters when it starts. bypassing the fuel pump relay on the tipm module will fix the problem, however it is not a safe permanent solution. other makes and models have been recalled for the same issue, however the 2010 dodge caravan was not included in the recall even though the same defect and problem is evident. this is a bad design and dodge should stick by their mistakes and provide a fix.
Bought a used dodge caravan with 96,000 miles on it and it ran like a dream. now that it has 111000 miles on it, the car has started to stall on me while about half a dozen times driving at various speeds. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power while the vehicle was operated at various speeds. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system), but the vin was not included. the failure mileage was approximately 104,000.
Suddenly the headlights stopped working on both high and low. we live in a rural area, so this is serious. when we noticed the problem we were on a highway, moving. dealship confirms needs new tipm at $1354.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact had to stop and turn the key fob to the off position. the vehicle was restarted and operated normally. the failure recurred twice in the last week. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed by an independent mechanic or a dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
Van would not turn off. after many tries, it finally did shut off engine. then, when i tried to restart it, the warning beep kept beeping and alert system said "bad key". when i contacted dodge in rockwall texas, the technician said it was probably a bad key fob, so i had van towed to shop and was quoted a price of $320 to replace key fob. upon my return, he said it was not the key, but the wireless ignition system that would have to be replaced. he said my van was not part of the recall, but yet many other vans from that same year model and make were. now my cost is $530 for wireless ignition system to be replaced, and $180 for new key fob and $52 to have it programmed. why isn't this van part of the recall if it is exhibiting the same problems as the ones that are being recalled and replaced free of charge?
The headlights just stop working and then hours or days later they work again and then in a few days the headlights stop working. the van can be moving or stationary.
I first recieved a recall notice in january of 2016 i contacted hunter dodge to get the problem fixed and was placed on a waiting list for the part. i was never notified of the part being in and recieved another notice, i again contacted them and was placed on another list. this has continued for the past 8 months. i received yet another notice on 8/25/2016 called them and i finally recieved an appointment for 8/31/2016 and then was called 1 hour after the appointment was given and asked to re schedule for october. i have had many problems with my ignition over the past few months, the key switches from on to accessory without anyone near it, and i notified hunter dodge of this and they said the soonest i could get in was 9/10/2016. it was been 8 months since my first notice and feel like safety isn't their first concern. it has been a frustrating ordeal

I called bertera dodge, 167 springfield st, westfield, ma, on or about july 18, 2016 to schedule an appointment for the r03 recall. they told me they would order the part, then call me to set up the appointment. i called again on or about september 20, 2016 and was told they still did not have the part needed. it is now november 11, 2016 and i still haven't received a call for the appointment. i have no documentation or photos because the part under recall is still working, but who knows for how long. i have had recalls of other vehicles that do not take this long.

While driving my car it just shuts off on me at random times. i never know when it is going to happen. it has happened 4 times in 2 week. i found a recall online for this same thing but my dealer is telling me they are vin number specific and my vin says there is no recall so they won't fix it. this is due to only chrysler only covered up till june of 2010 model year and our van/vin was made in july of 2010. please help me get this fixed before i have an accident and injure myself or my family that is in the van most of the time or someone else. they need to extend the recall for all of 2010 model year, not just part of the year.
The headlights will come on and blink a few times and then go out and not come back on (sim and brights). took to the dealer and they said they could not recreate the issue so nothing was wrong with it. can cannot be driven at night or inclement weather. it has happened when stationary, driving through a neighborhood slowly, and when going down an interstate at 70 mph. when that happened other cars could not see me and i couldn't tell where the side of the road was to get off safely. when i made it to the shoulder i had to swerve back into traffic because luckily my eyes adjusted some and was able to see a bridge railing coming up. if not we would have hit it at about 60 miles per hour. i have read endless reports about this happening the same way and many believe it to be the tipm but no dealer or mechanic could give a definitive answer of what was actually causing it. first happened on july 1st 2016 and has happened off and on since then. *tr
Air bag indicator illuminated, cruise control did not function. manual & dealership confirmed cruise would not work if air bag indicator is lit. vehicle ran hot during slow speeds in hot weather. dealership first said driver's airbag sensor & tipm were bad, & bad tipm affects all electronic components from airbags, lights, brakes, wipers, horn, windows, temp control, & more. learned that dodge has had widespread problems with the tipm, and did not want to chance the airbags not working, so we had to replace it even though it was not under recall. we are reporting the problem even though it did not cause a safety incident - we can not wait until *after* a potential safety incident that involved malfunctioning airbags... the vehicle has spent 3 wks + at the dealership, and we don't have the docs verifying the work they have completed yet. we will gladly provide the paperwork after the work is finished.
