We have classified the 794 complaints from 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Spontaneous fire in the rear driver side after parked for hours. *dt consumer stated the wires around the fuses weren't burnt. it's all in the back. around the back hatch and driver side in the trunk. it melted the back hatch so that you can't even open it. i'm guessing where it was locking and unlocking on its own it shorted out back there. consumer sold the parts.*jb
Vehicle wipers, wiper fluid, and horn operate separately and independently from human operator input with no response to operators attempts to disengage their operations. incidents happen intermittently at rest or in motion, situations are not able to be anticipated.

Horn goes off windshield wipers start moving car shuts off while driving key doesn't have to be in the ignition for horn to go off and wipers to wipe driving on the road and car shuts off
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. while the vehicle was turned off, the battery would drain and the vehicle could not be started. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the computer software was faulty, which caused the radio to remain activated after the vehicle was turned off and drained the battery. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer and local dealer (jeep dodge chrysler of teterboro, 469 us highway 46, little ferry, nj) were notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 140,000.
Vehicle stalled intermittently going down road, dash lights flicker on and off, windshield wipers turn on intermittently, radio not owrking, windows not working, locks not working, all dash lights now not on, gas gage not working, rpm not working. vehicle is currently not driveable.
On saturday, july 21, 2018, a fire started in the engine, which resulted in an explosion and the van was determined to be a total loss. fire dept. and police arrived at the scene. the vehicle was in motion on a city street. a puff of smoke started, pulled vehicle to side of road. exited vehicle as the fire had started.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. while driving various speeds, the horn started to honk without warning. in addition, the windshield wipers and washer fluid activated independently, the air conditioning unit turned off independently, and the transmission failed to shift as intended. the contact was able to turn off and restart the vehicle. the vehicle operated as intended for approximately ten minutes before the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failures. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 159,654.
While parked in driveway, the horn started blowing erratically, headlights were on, and front and rear windshield wipers and washers operating. door locks would not respond to remote. after s short period of trying to unlock the doors with the remote, they either responded to the remote or unlocked by themselves. at that point i attempted to turn the ignition on and start the vehicle. i started it and then turned it off but that did not stop the horn, wipers, etc. a few seconds after shutting the ignition off, everything stopped. front and rear wipers did not return to park position until i manually turned them on and off. i started the engine again and had a check engine light with error codes related to the tcm, transmission control module. in addition, while driving, the heater blower motor intermittently stops working. all of this appears to be the result of a faulty tipm, totally integrated power module. this has happened twice in the last two weeks. first occurrence was 1/11/18 and second occurrence was 1/16/18. searching online revealed that mine is not an isolated problem as there are many reported instances of tipm failures with similar symptoms.
All the code light flashing on the dashboard, wiper automatically come on, speedometer cuts down to 0 when driving, driver side windows wouldn't roll down or the lock switch wouldn't unlock doors, lights flicker on and off while they are shut off, if lights on can't use bright light they cut out when all the code light flicker on. like it shorting out. it does this sitting still or in motion. happens when i am driving or sitting in a parking lot
I was driving on a busy main city road at night, traveling around 35 mph when my van shut off and the wipers and horn went crazy. i lost all power steering and brakes. headlights also cut out. i struggled to get to the side of the road and into a parking lot. the front wipers stopped when i turned the key off, but the back wiper and horn continued for about 10 min. i did not have tools to disconnect the battery. suddenly there was a flash of all the lights in the car and everything seemed to be back to normal with the exception of the check engine light appearing on the dash. i was able to restart the vehicle and drive another half mile to my home. this is the first time this has happened while driving, that i have lost all engine power and steering, it is not the first time the van has acted out. wipers will suddenly start moving when i am driving or the horn with suddenly sound and radio will cut out. i have also had it go crazy with windshield wipers moving, horn honking, locks malfunctioning and fluid sprayed all over the car when i unlocked it. my wife once had my kids trapped inside of the care for 10 mins until i could i drive over and disconnected the battery. i have been told it is the tipm acting up. it has happened more than 10 times. i do not trust the vehicle. i have read about many more instances online. this could cause an accident if it was in rush hour or on a busier road.
Took my van into jeff wyler eastgate auto mall, in batavia, oh 45103, to have the two recalls fixed on my van and when i call to check up on the progress i get told that the tipm needs replaced and they are wanting to charge me $1,337.60 to fix it before they will even be able to fix my recalls. both recalls are the ignition and the air bags, both of which are caused by the faulty tipm. so what are they repairing and replacing on my recalls knowing that the tipm is the main reason my van has recalls to begin with. the recall for my air bags is as follows: the airbags will either deploy at will or not deploy at all. the letter i got informing me of my recalls stated that it could be in the wiring harness or other places connecting my van to the airbags. the recall for my ignition is as follows: the airbags will either deploy at will or not deploy at all. the letter i got informing me of my recalls stated that it could be in the wiring harness or other places connecting my van to the ignition.
In june had the tipm replaced as it was causing the horn to go off and stay on, the wipers to go off and stay on and other electical issues. these symptoms returned in the last month (i was traveling during the return of the issues) and this time, about two weeks ago, while doing 55mph down a secondary highway, the car's horn and wipers came on and the car completely shut off - the engine shut down. the dealer replaced the tipm again.
Several times the horn began sounding a long blare, the windshield wipers came on, the washer fluid started spraying, the doors locked, and the headlights and rear lights began flashing, all lasting several minutes. it began while driving and continued after i stopped the car, turned it off, and removed the key. the symptoms worsened about a week later when all of the above happened as well as the gear shift indicator lights began flashing, the stability control light came on, the check engine light came on, the bas light came on, and then the car shifted itself into neutral. this has happened several times and has become more frequent.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. while driving on several occasions, the horn sounded independently, the headlights flickered on and off, the windshield wipers operated independently, and the radio increased in volume independently. in addition, the vehicle stalled and was towed to seaview dodge (located at 810 nj-35, ocean township, nj 07712, (888) 382-6788) to be diagnosed. the mechanic was not able to duplicate the issue or retrieve a fault code. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 32145138. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
Have had my 08 van for a few years and everyone in awhile the alarm will sound wipers won't stop going. has happened while driving car stalls looses ability to steer and light go off which at night make it really hard to see. my alarm and all other action combined happened at work while i was inside tried to turn off with fob had to unhook battery still didn't stop. i have 4 kids and this is what i have to drive them in we have went into a ditch and got stuck in a 4 way took to mechanic no codes no problem only this was. was told by dealer the could not diagnose it unless it did it to them i am at a lose i have to drive to get to work my kids have to ride to go to sitter i am so afraid we are gonna die in this van.
The van was idling in my driveway then all of the gauges, instrument panels lights, indicator lights and windshield wipers were turning on and off independent of the cab controls. i turned off the key and it all stopped, but the headlights did remain on. when i turned the key back on the erratic behavior resumed.
Driving, parked, starting, and on its own sitting in garage. the electrical system goes crazy intermitently. horn, wipers (front and rear), door locks, and wiper fluid engage. while driving the power steering and brakes fail. very dangerous problem and needs attention with the amount of complaints i am seeing on the internet on forums for this model of van.
Tipm failure causing vehicle to randomly while driving or parked to turn horn and front blower motor on and off by it's self. dealer is replacing today.
Tipm electrical problems ? (1)the engine stalling while driving, dash flashing, eps/bas light and (abs) light coming on with traction control light too then van dies or shuts off.also mileage and prnd display blinks rapidly.this happens when sitting still or driving.seem's to happen even when engine is cold or hot on the city streets or highway.(2)my van has had 4 or 5 battery's that have went bad, also sometimes it wont start,i get a jump start,go get the battery tested at auto zone but there's nothing wrong with the battery,(3)horn works but if you need to honk more than 2 times it stops working but later it works, sometimes it wont start and you take the key out and open the door then close the door and you can start it. also lately it has been harder to start.also you can't play the radio without the motor running it will run the battery down? but the 1st year i had the van 2011 i could run the radio all day long with only starting it up for about 5 minutes every hour.also cruse control works then stops working.these things have happen over and over,in a 7 year period sense april 2011.i believe it is a tipm electrical problem.can you send me a new one i am a veteran one a small disability check sleeping in the van.there is a video of the problem on youtube.i did not know there was a problem with the tipm. i though i was playing the radio too long,or the alternator was going bad but the alternator never showed bad in any test or has not stop working.so it was the tipm (fuse box)going bad all the time.thanks to youtube, see at- 08 grand caravan tipm on youtube.com ? also a video at 2008 dodge grand caravan electrical problems 2014 03 05 2019
Driving down freeway and van stalled. coasted to road side. wipers go crazy when car is parked and drain all the cleaning fluid out. have not been able to clean windshield of excess dirt to see more clearly. car has gone crazy. everything electrical goes berserk randomly. never know what may or may not work.
As previously occurred, chrysler concealed a known safety defect from its customers and then refused to help with repairs. the defective component is called the totally integrated power module (or tipm). the tipm consists of a computer, fuses, and internal relays, and is responsible for controlling and distributing electrical power to the entire vehicle'everything from steering and brakes, to the alarm, headlights, and the fuel pump. since the tipm controls power to a wide variety of essential vehicle systems, including safety and security systems, the defect often leaves the vehicles incapable of providing reliable or safe transportation. many class vehicles fail to start (or take dozens of attempts before the engine will turn over) because of the defect, and vehicles start up at other times only to stall, sometimes while traveling at high speeds. vehicles also continue running without the key in ignition. the tipm defect has caused headlights and taillights to suddenly shut off. it has also caused horns to honk, car alarms to sound, and windshield wipers to activate all on their own. the tipm has also caused airbags to not deploy in some scenarios.
Electrical flips out randomly for no reason. the car gets turned on and lights on the dashboard go on and off. the vehicle dings and the windshield wipers go bacl and forth. i caught it on camera. we turned around and went home. we are unsure if out vehicle is even safe to drive and we have kids. so we are stranded and can't afford to fix an issue that dodge says doesn't exist. this has been happening for years of and on but now it is trying to do it while we drive. it will not let me upload video but i can email it to someone if they need it.
Defective tipm, lost electric power in 2013 at 26,000 miles. part replaced, paid $1200. defective tipm, lost electric power in 2017, at 36,000 miles. only 9000 miles later, part needs to be replaced again, cost estimated around $1300. the same part in other year models were recalled, 2008 model was not included in the recall. contacted dodge, they refuse to take responsibility for this reoccurring and life threatening problem, caused by defective tipm. luckily, both times it happened, the vehicle was not in traffic.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v373000 (electrical system, air bags) and 16v047000 (air bags). when the contact attempted to shift gears, the transmission seized without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wireless ignition node module and the occupant restraint controller needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the issue recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,222.
Vehical's horn will sound, windchill wipers go off and spray washer fluid, and doors will lock themselves. this will happen whether the van is running or not. started 1 and half years ago. taken it to dealership twice and they cant find anything wrong with it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. while driving approximately 65 mph, all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the seat belt chime sounded, the windshield wipers activated without being turned on, and the exterior lighting began flashing. also, none of the doors would unlock from the inside. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the shoulder and came to a complete stop. the contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the totally integrated power module failed and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Bought this van in aug. 2009 loved it at first..then things started happening. would hesitate while driving, never die on me but still feels like it will sometimes.. steering wheel has locked on me several times. different panel lights come on and go off since day one. have changed brakes way more than should of been necessary..other repair to brake system. had power steering line changed. about 6 months ago, panel lights started coming on more often, then the gauges wouldn't work, wipers come on and won't stop. headlight flash on and off or don't work at all; turn signals work on and off, power locks come on and off, can't roll windows down or up from drivers side or lock or unlock doors.everyday it gets worse. took it to dodge dealer 11/2016 cost about $100.00 to tell me , its not a call back and not related to the ignition problem, and in my passed complains they had didn't have any of these problems listed, even tho i had told them about them before. so because control lights had went off at that time they couldn't do anything. it was probably an electrical problem and the last time they did one it too about 10 hr.to find the problem. ($128.00 an hr) i can't afford that and i think chrysler should stand behind their cars. now for the last 2 weeks all of these things stay on and continue to do it all. low mileage 81000 always taken care of, now i'm 70 yrs old and have a van that i'm afraid to drive...this happens while driving and sitting still. *tr
On friday, 10/28/2016, i was traveling on flat rock rd. in starr sc coming home from work. i crossed over railroad tracks and the rear passenger door started trying to open on its own. the door made a loud noise and the door light on the dash lit up. i pulled over. the door continued trying to open until i opened the hood and disconnected the battery cable. when i checked the door, it would not open and was smoking. i noticed smoke coming from the bottom back corner of the door on the outside. i saw a flame inside. i had nothing to extinguish the fire with so i flagged down a passing motorist who thankfully had a jug of water. by this time, the door and trim under it were actually burning. i extinguished the fire and found the fuse for the door and pulled it. later i found out that the vehicle had a recall for this and that the recall work was supposedly performed. i contacted chrysler and they sent an inspector. recieved a letter today denying responsibility. i have a partally burned vehicle whose doors won't open (presenting a safety hazard because i have children and they could not get out if this happened again). i am terribly afraid to drive the vehicle anywhere now because of this.
The tipm went out as i was driving 64 mph and every light on my dash came on. luckily the car kept running and did not cause a serious accident. 1/2 of the electrical components on my car no longer work and i'm going to have to spend over $700 to fix a problem that dodge knows fully about and has not issued a recall. they should based upon the numbers of people that have this same problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the horn, locks, and window wipers functioned independently and the tranmission failed. all the warning indicators were illuminated. the failure occurred various times. the dealer diagnosed that the tipm failed and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 105,000. the vin was not provided.
My family and i were driving down the street to go to the hospital to see our new addition to the family then all of a sudden the wipers flew on, the dash board lights were blinking and the dinging from all the lights on the dash was going off also my head light were blinking on and off.
After parking my car, after about 5 minutes, the horn started blowing, the wipers, front and rear started running and the washers started spraying. the door locks started locking and unlocking on their own. the car, when started had no dash lights, or gauge function. the drivers electric seat started adjusting itself. radio came on and off on its own. car acted like it was possessed. i had to unhook the battery to make everything stop. please note, the car was parked in my driveway when all of this occurred.
Tipm module malfunctioning. wipers and horn will go off randomly, transmission will disengage at the same time. power steering shuts off as well during episodes while driving! i have had to stop on the freeway with my kids in the car and restart the car.
This has been an ongoing issue. my doors unlock and lock while i'm driving. my wind shield wipers go on by themselves and my door ding goes off while i'm driving and all doors are securely closed. this is an issue that keeps being brought up and ignored for several drivers, not just my family. when i stop they will do it also but more often than not its when i or others are driving.
On the 24th of august, the car was taken in for repairs related to several recalls including the ignition and air bags. after the work was done, the air bag light came on. after speaking to a mechanic over the phone, an appointment was made for septermber 9th. however when the car was brought in to be looked at, the employee i spoke to would not accept the problem as part of the recall work and wanted to charge a diagnostic fee. i have since had the car checked by a different mechanic whose opinion is that the previous work done on the car is what is causing the current air bag problem, and therefore i would like the work to be done without cost to me as per the warranty on the recall work.

Tipm completely failed, locking my transmission in "limp mode" and also affecting doors and window controls. while driving on the hywy i loss speed instantly making it necessary to pull onto the median to prevent accident.
In reference to recall 11v-139, the wireless ignition module, (win), in this vehicle has exhibited symptoms of early failure and eventual permanent failure. it would allow the fobik to release into the accessory position, resulting in the cessation of movement and other vehicle functions on multiple occasions. in response, last year, chrysler noted that parts are back ordered and only vehicles rendered inoperable or dangerously impaired were currently being serviced. this situation has not improved, the win module has compounded its dysfunction over the course of the preceding year. the win module will no longer recognize either fobik, and only the odometer will light up when a fobik is put in run position, rendering the vehicle inoperable. the win module design is prone to failure beyond releasing the fobik, it may also eventually fail to recognize it, perhaps as a symptom on constant disconnection or deeply flawed design. the situation with the backlog of repairs also appears to be worsening: fca us representatives have acknowledged that the back order of part 68241076ac may be as much as four weeks, even for a vehicle now rendered inoperable. i request that the recall be extended further still, to include permanent or persistent failure of these modules. such a condition granting eligibility for the consumer to receive a rental vehicle for the duration of the repair, and a reexamination of the module design for the cause and probability of permanent failure.
Intermittent electrical problems - replaced tipm at my own expenses. 6 months later, vehicle would not start, no electrical power - only security light flashing. took to firestone, they could not diagnose, then towed to chrysler dealer - could not find anything, reconnected tipm connections, vehicle started and ran ok. there are multiple problems with this design/generation of the tipm (as seen in forums) - even had to change at my own expense, still have random/intermittent electrical problems - is this vehicle safe to drive - will the airbags work, if needed? why has this vehicle not been recalled and the tipm replaced/redesigned - this is a massive safety issue with these minivans!

I received the recall in the mail and went to the dodge dealer over a year ago and never heard a thing from them again. recall r03 / nhtsa 14v-373. sometimes i have to put the van in netural to start the van. it stopped on me while i was out (parked) and firestone advised me to start the van this way because nothing was wrong otherwise. sometimes my rear window will close itself.

Frequently will not start-have to raise hood & smack top of black box & then it will start, will go "crazy" while parked with no keys in ignition-horn honks, lights flash on & off, wipers go & fluid sprays-again have to smack box to make it stop. between 5/2/16 & 5/18/16, while driving down the road, four times the motor has shut itself off, horn has begun honking, wipers go, fluid sprays, running lights go off. ***did it twice on 5/18/16! thank god, was going slowly down a side street-again had to raise hood, smack on top of that black box-fuses and sensors must be in there-and it stopped acting crazy and restarted. my husband has been driving it as i refuse to!! very surprised and concerned that there has not been recall as this seems to be a very frequent issue with these vans-wish i had never bought mine!
