Recently reported LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES problems on 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Power door locks fail to operate on my 2005 dodge grand caravan. neither the remote, the interior switch nor the automatic door lock feature works at all at this point. *tr

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan the automatic door locks stop operating. the only way to correct them was to remove and reinstall the iod fuse. after reading and searching the net, this is something that needs to be addressed. what if this happened to my wife with the kids in the car. *tr

One night my locks were working on my van and the next morning they weren't. i called the chrysler dealer and they informed me that i would need a software update because of this problem and it was not a recall. i don't feel that is fair, considering the locks are supposed to lock while driving, making sure the children are not able to open the doors while moving or just in a parking lot, where a car could be pulling into the next parking space. it is so easy for kids to dart out fast and the next car to not be able to stop in time. i feel this is a big safety issue for me/my children and anyone else out there with the same problem. and by the looks of the websites i've visited, there are a ton of people with same problems. *tr

Power door locks won't work at all. have to do it manually i think this is a safety issue. when the van was sold to me i liked the idea that the doors locked while in motion now i have to do it manually with 2 small children i think this issue should be recalled. *tr

Power door locks have stopped working on my 2005 dodge caravan. you can only lock/unlock the back sliding doors manually. from doing some investigating, it appears this is a common problem for the 2005 dodge caravans, and one that i do not think should be taken lightly. children are normally the ones sitting by these doors, and i think this is a liability. about a year ago, the driver's side stopped working, and then a few months ago, the passenger one stopped working. *tr

Our 2005 dodge grand caravan no longer locks with the automatic door locks. it also will not unlock the doors. when the automatic door lock is pressed on the remote control, the horn sounds and give the impression that the doors lock, but they do not. also the vehicle no longer automatically locks the doors when 20 mph is achieved. these are safety hazards as we have been made to believe that the doors were locked when they were not locked. *tr

Doors will not lock or unlock using the remote or lock switches. twice a week pulled iod relay, waited 10 seconds, replaced it. worked for 3 months, but it is only temporary, and i have to do it now often. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact noticed that all the doors could not be locked with the power locks. the only door he is able to lock with the power lock feature is the rear middle door. the dealer stated that the computer lock module was the cause of the failure. the dealer will replace the computer module at the cost of $450. the manufacturer stated that they would not assist with the repairs since there is no recall. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 51,000 and current mileage was 53,000.

The power door locks have failed. the van only has a key lock on the drivers door and with kids this is not only inconvenient, but it's not safe. after looking it up on the internet, pulling and replacing a fusing provided a temporary fix, but that will not work now. apparently the only fix is having the dealer reload the memory. this seems to be a very common problem and should be addressed. *tr

Power door locks stopped working. i found articles online to disconnect battery and reconnect at which time the issue went away. after a week or so the locks stopped working again. i went to the dealer and they informed me that i needed to microcode update to correct the issue. since my mileage was above 36k there was a $175 fee. i refused to pay it since the car was under 3 years old and it was a computer issue. i contacted dodge and they refused to waive the fee. the car is now 8 years old and dodge has not released the updated microcode to any service companies and only allows dealerships to update the microcode where most will upgrade for free. i believe this is done intentionally to charge current dodge owners for poor engineering. *tr

Power door locks do not work at all resulting in a safety issue with children. *tr

The automatic power door locks suddenly fail to work. the doors can not be locked/unlocked with the door switch or the remote key. the doors fail to lock after approaching a 18mph speed also. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that all of the power door locks were inoperative. he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that it was a common failure with his year, make, and model vehicle. the bcm software would have to be repaired at the cost of $130. the vehicle has not been repaired. the manufacturer would not provide any assistance because there was no recall for this component. the failure and current mileages were 34,417.

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan and the power doors/power locks have failed. the tailgate still works, however, without the power locks there is no way to lock it. due to the number of complaints in this system as well as the number or complaints on the internet, this is obviously a manufacture/engineering defect that must be addressed. i called dodge about the problem and the told me that i'd have to pay a $69 diagnostic fee before they could tell me what was wrong and how much it would cost. i really do not want to give dodge of my hard earned money for something that i, and countless others, believe that dodge should correct without hesitation and without charge. please take this matter seriously and do the right thing by recommending a recall to fix this problem. *tr

This problem is with the auto door locks on dodge grand caravans and has been reported by many people on this site. the doors can't be lock with the remote(even though the horn blows to signal it locked) or the auto lock switch on the door. this is a safety problem with kids riding in the back seat. this is an obvious manufacturing defect that should have a recall issued. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan power locks stopped working. apparently this is a widespread problem with significant safety issues. noticed it one day on vacation when i locked the car and heard it honk. when i came back to the car, the locks were still up - it never locked. we had all kinds of expensive electronics in the car that could have been stolen. this is only a small thing compared to the safety issues related to children's safety, ease of use for disabled and elderly people, etc. alot of complaints about this all over the internet yet dodge is not coming up with a fix and there has been no recall yet. i strongly suggest you recall this vehicle for a proper fix, instead of having to replug the fuses under the hood all the time. *tr

The electronic locks on my van suddenly stopped working. i researched, found many similar cases - one suggested we disconnect the battery and reconnect - locks worked for 1 day then stopped again. i am taking it do the dealer tomorrow but will be cautious about the repairs they suggest. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. on june 5, 2008, the door lock failed. when the contact pressed the lock button, the alarm sounded; however, the doors did not lock. the hatchback door is the only door that locks. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on june 25, 2008 and the dealer reprogrammed the remote system; however, the failure was not corrected. the vehicle will be taken back to the dealer. the failure and current mileages were 32,327. updated 09/29/08. *lj the dealer replaced the computer board. there have been no other problems. updated 09/29/08. *jb

The automatic power door locks suddenly fail to work. the doors can not be locked/unlocked with the door switch or the remote key. the doors fail to lock after approaching a 18mph speed also. it is stated in the owners manual that this is a safety feature on the vehicle. i understand from several other reports of the same problem, that there is a software update, but dodge is not correcting this problem without a significant charge. this is a safety feature that is failing to operate, therefore i believe, along with many others that this vehicle should be recalled to correct to problem. *tr

Repeated failure of power locks in 2005 dodge grand caravan. this is apparently a well documented problem, but chrysler as yet to issue a recall. the bcm has to be reprogrammed. the only other temporary solution is to disconnect the battery or fuse. this model has only one external key hole on the drivers door. and manually locking the van doors makes loading and unloading small children difficult. it also poses a serious hazard in the event a quick escape from the vehicle is needed in the event of a crash, fire, or submerged. *tr

Power door locks quit working. i read that there is a software fix for this, but i can't afford to do this. i have read lots of complaints on this issue and think this should be a recall do to safety matter. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan auto locks stop working. safety hazard because only driver door works. with children this is a hazard. not safe in parking lots and can only enter on one side of vehicle. i can not believe this hasn't been recalled. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the power locks in the vehicle are no longer functioning. the keyless remote also will not lock or unlock the vehicle; therefore, it can only be manually locked and unlocked. the vehicle will also not lock when it is placed into drive. the contact did not notice any differences in the vehicle prior to the failure. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. the current and failure mileages were 30,721. updated 06/25/08. *lj the consumer stated the only way to unlock the door is using the driver side door and the unlocking it from the inside manually. updated.

The power door locks have been failing intermittently for 3 yrs. i unhook the iod fuse or the battery cable momentarily and this seems to work for a while. the door locks would work for a short time - then fail again until i repeated the fuse or battery cable removal procedure. as time went on the fix would last less & less time. currently, the locks may only work for a day or so. this is unacceptable. my wife was really scared the other day when someone was approaching the car and she could not lock the doors. she was in an unfamiliar location with the 4 year old in the back seat. while it actually turned out to be a false alarm, it did open my eyes. while i have been just "fixing" it all the time, i realized that i cannot control when and where it will happen and you cannot always get out and reset the fuse. this is a program (firmware) that is failing on a large number of vehicles, see links below. this poses a safety hazard as the van cannot be secured without manually locking all doors, which leaves the tailgate. why should consumers have to pay for a manufacturer defect? someone needs to protect the consumer..... i am taking the van in to request it be reprogrammed. i am not going to wait until something bad actually happens first. just a couple of links: http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/grand_caravan/2005/electrical/electric_door_lock_failure.shtml http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/power_locks_will_not_lock_or_unlock. *tr

My 2005 dodge grand caravan automatic door locks are inoperative. vehicle has apx 45,000 miles. i've noticed per internet provided vehicle complaint sites that this is a high volume problem , and serious safety concern. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. sporadically, the power door locks become inoperative and prevent the contact from locking the doors. he is in the process of taking the vehicle to a dealer to have it inspected. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 38,000 and current mileage was 42,000.

Doors do not lock/unlock when you press the automatic door lock/unlock button on either the keyless entry system or the door itself. vehicle was taken to dealership who says that there is no problem with them and they are not aware of anyone else complaining. internet is full of complaints from consumers on issue. *tr

1. power sliding doors on my 2005 dodge grand caravan opened about 6 inches then stop. now they have stopped working altogether 2. the failure is constant 3. i have checked both fuses and relays. i took it into my electrical mechanic but he could not run a diagnostic because only chrysler diagnostic tools can read the doors. *tr

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan. it has power door locks. the locks will not operate from inside the vehicle or from the keychain. not being able to lock and unlock this vehicle makes it very difficult with two young children. the safety feature that locks the doors when the vehicle is going over 18 mph is also not working. the only doors that has key unlock are the driver door and the rear door. i have found a website that has many others with the same problem. this should be recalled. please look at this website, and help us get this fixed. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml. *tr

Dodge grand caravan 2005, door locks not working. there have been many complaints on this and needs to be recalled. i have 15,000 miles and have read that you pull the fuse and put it back in. this works for a short time. *tr

Automatic door locks don't work. the only way to get them to work is to remove the 20amp iod fuse for 10 sec. dodge refuses to own up to the problem, but they don't mind taking your money for a temporary fix. by removing and installing the iod fuse the temp fix last for a couple of weeks in the summer and 1 day in the winter. our problem started in the spring of 2008 until now. *tr

Power door lock failure - 6th occurrence. vehicle door lock switches / remote unit fail to operate door locks. this is the second occurrence this year. safety issue as chrysler outfitted vehicle with only a drivers side key-operated door lock. all other locks are controlled electronically. safety concern is at time of vehicle crash, doors must be manually unlocked. children in the back may not know how to unlock the car manually since children are used to automatic controls. called chrysler on 4/7/08. chrysler refused to acknowledge that this is an ongoing problem with their vehicles, or that safety is somehow impacted by this failure. *tr

The power locks on my 2005 grand caravan stopped working. i researched the problem found a lot of people with the same problem! i'm told i can have new software put in to correct the problem. with as many complaints as i found...shouldn't this be a recall??? *tr

Auto-locks stopped working on dodge grand caravan xt 2005. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan. bought new. around 2008, after warranty expired, the power door locks stopped working, whether you used the button on the door or the button on the remote. after researching this issue, it appears that this is a recurring problem with this make and model and year van. if you disconnect the battery for a minute and reconnect it, the door locks will work again, maybe for an hour or for a week before they stop working again, it is always random amount of time before it quits again. the dealership would charge to attempt to fix it since it is not covered under any recall. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan door locks stop working. *tr

The door lock just suddenly stopped functioning. passenger side, rear door does not respond to button on door post. *tr

Power locks have stopped working on my vehicle. i am reading online that this is a common problem for this year, make, and model. i feel this is a safety issue and should be considered for a recall. i am unable to lock or unlock the vehicle using the keyless entry or the power lock buttons on either the driver or passenger side doors. *tr

On or around feb 26 i discovered that the auto door locks were not working nor was i able to unlock or lock my doors from the inside with the inside lock switch. if my wife was trying to outrun an assailant she would not be able to unlock or lock the doors automatically when seconds could be crucial. not to mention the fact that the lights flash with using the remote errantly indicating that the doors were locked. at this point i have'nt fixed the problem but i understand that dodge has an update fix. this should be a recall. *tr

2005 dodge caravan automatic locks do not work correctly which allows a child to unlock the doors. *tr

Power door lock failure - 5th occurrence. just took vehicle to car wash and within 1 hour the locks stopped responding to remote and door switches. car has exhibited power door lock failure twice each year since purchased by current owner. dealers have reprogrammed/replaced bcm a couple of times. on this occasion, the dealer did not provide information on how the locks were reset other than to say the locks were reset. would like to know procedure to save on further trips to dealer. this is a safety issue as the car is only equipped with key locks on driver's door and rear liftgate. any type of fire, flood, or emergency requiring quick evac would result in tragic loss. *tr

Electric locks fail and disable the electric doors, automatic locking, and key fog locking and unlocking. the doors fail to lock at 20mph , therefore you think your doors are locked and they are not. also, pressing the fob. sounds the horn, blinks lights, but doors are not locked, although you think they are. this is a software problem in the bcm, they have a tsb for it, but refuse to fix it because warranty has expired. this is faulty software at manuf, and a safety issue, chrysler should stand behind their own mistakes and safety issues. *tr

The electric locking system fails in both the locked and unlocked position due to a software glitch that costs over $200 to "diagnose" and repair. i am often unable to get my kids out of the van without crawling into the back seat to manually unlock the doors, which is difficult since they are meant to be controlled electronically. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. while attempting to exit the vehicle, the pneumatic device used to lock and unlock the doors would not work. the contact attempted to lock the doors manually, but was unsuccessful. the dealer stated that she needed to purchase software to install in the vehicle. the vehicle has not been repaired. the current and failure mileages were 52,514. update 05/13/08 *bf

Latches/locks/linkages details: the auto door locks fail to work suddenly. problem can be temporarily fixed by pulling out the iod fuse in the fuse panel for a minute and reinserting it. (as other owners have stated). i am surprised to not see a 'recall' on this problem. i have read a lot of complaints on this problem and would think the manufacturer is aware of the problems and solutions. why should we be charged for something that is obviously a fault from the manufacturer??? *tr

Electric door locks stop working. have to manually push down locks on all 4 doors. remote keyfob also does nothing to lock/unlock. have had to disconnect battery terminals to force a reset each time, then locks start working. *cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the automatic locking system for the doors failed and caused the doors not to close automatically or manually. the contact had to release the ignition off drain fuse to reset the door lock system. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 163, 00 and current mileage was 175,000. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the front driver side window will not go up or down. also, the electrical system (locking system) does not work. the key has to be manually inserted to unlock or lock the door. the sliding doors are no longer working properly and occasionally become stuck and cannot be opened at all. water is entering through the front passenger side door handle and creating puddles of water in the vehicle. the warranty expired and the contact was informed that the repair was his responsibility. the purchase date was unknown. the current mileage was 54,424 and failure mileage was 54,400. updated 02-06-08. *kb the consumer stated he had the vehicle repaired at the cost of $421.56 for locks and windows and obtained an estimate for the sliding van doors at the tune of $773.38. updated 02/06/08 *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan. electric locks fail. this involves safety, as the doors are supposed to lock automatically at a predetermined speed. they fail both manually, remotely and from obtaining the speed required. the dealer tells me this is a software problem, and they have a tsb to correct it, but it costs $90 i would think that if a software update is required, that means that the software was not working properly at manufacture, and it should be covered by the factory. they say that because the miles are over warranty, it costs. but software updates indicate that it wasn't done properly in the first place, and it does affect safety by not locking the doors. simply removing the iod fuse and reinserting it resets the computer and the locks perform normally and then fail again. when i buy windows program, all updates are free, because they re updated to solve problems. *tr

(1) loss of battery power. (2) resulted in failure of power door locks to operate. (3) manufacture technical service bulletin 08-040-04 calls for re-programming of body control module due to updated software to correct the know failure. known software related issue. *tr
