The door locks on my 2005 dodge caravan would lock or unlock themselves after pressing the switch on the door. they have now quit working all together even quit locking at 18 mph. i tried using the switch on the doors and do not get a reaction. i tried the remote and they will not respond. they worked 10 minutes earlier. i tried a couple hours later and still nothing. i have two small children and having the door locks is a huge safety issue. now i even feel uncomfortable putting my kids in my van and walking around the other side with my keys and remote in my hand fearing that the locks might not unlock when should. i have visited numerous sites and found a large number of people with the same problem and temporary fixes or very expensive repairs. please investigate this issue for the safety of small children that travel in these vehicles. the issues with the locks started in 2008 off and on and continued to get worse. *tr
My 2005 dodge grand caravan's power locks have stopped working. this is a safety hazard as there is only one lock on the drivers side. i guess a recall won't happen until a child is injured or someone is raped/killed because they couldn't get into their car quick enough. i am calling the dealer to take care of this problem and i will never buy a dodge again. they clearly do not care for the safety and well being of their customers. *tr
Door locks and power sliding door malfunctions, or total non-operation. *tr
2005 dodge grand caravan automatic locks will not work. *tr
At 5 years our 2005 dodge caravan electric door locks stopped working. door open or lock does not work from inside car on the door button or the remote entry keyring. imagine not being able to open the door from the inside because the electric locks stopped working, or delays in a dark parking lot getting in because locks don't work. this is a safety problem dodge needs to fix. *tr
The powerlocks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan do not work. normally they lock the vehicle at 20mph or greater. the only way to lock them is to manually lock them. the power key will not lock/unlock them either. *tr
My young daughter was able to open the sliding door on our 2005 dodge caravan at highway speeds ! apparently the automatic door locks failed to operate, and my research online indicates this is a common failure mode. dealer update software flash rom but problem recurred shortly thereafter. *tr
Power windows & power locks don't work on key or doors and have not for the last year. now transmission won't shift into higher gears, i've got 67,000 miles and luckily it came with a 7 year 70,000 drive train warranty, this thing is an electronic nightmare !!! *tr
Electric door locks would not lock or unlock - unsure what precipitated the failure. web searches have turned up "quick-fixes" which indicate pulling the iod fuse out for five seconds and replacing it. further searching indicates a costly software upgrade and warnings by dodge dealers not to do this type of quick fix with no reason why. the quick fix appears to work for varying lengths of time until same failure occurs. heat, cold, wet or dry do not seem to alter the failure rate. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the power door locks failed. the contact stated in order to get the door locks to function, he would disconnected the battery and a fuse momentarily in order to get the computer to reset itself. the power door locks would then function for a brief period before failing again. the vehicle was neither inspected nor repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was approximately 46,900 and the current mileage was approximately 47,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that all the power door locks failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be replicated. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 34,000 and the current mileage was 56,000. the vin was unknown.
The auto door locks stop working in my 2005 dodge grand caravan. this makes it very difficult with kids to get in and out of the car as on the driver's door has a key entry. i consider this a safety hazard especially with children because of the time it takes to lock and unlock the car. we risk car jacking or inability to leave the car quickly if there was danger. this is a problem widely reported on the internet. yet, dodge dealership claims that have not heard of this problem and is going to charge $100 to diagnose the problem. *tr
The power door locks and power windows randomly stopped working on my van. there are numerous complaints about this from 1005 dodge van owners all over the internet. the equipment continues to fail and i have been unable to find a solution. *tr
Recently my power door locks quit on my 2005 dodge grand caravan, when trying to activate it either by my key or from the door panel. i gave it to my mechanic who fixed the problem.. the same problem recurred a week later. i was quite upset for paying money for a simple problem which was not fixed. the mechanic told me to disconnect the power from the battery (for at least 15 minutes) and then reconnect the battery. the power door locks now work. however this problem could happen again. i did a search on this problem on the web and found many other people complaining about this exact problem on the 2005 grand caravan. the correct solution seems to be going to a dealer. but i will not pay for a manufacturing defect ( and this defect is definitely a safety and security problem). this problem should be under a recall order. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that when attempting to use the key fob to lock or unlock the doors, the doors would not respond and the lights would not function. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where several fuses were replaced but the failure recurred. the vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer where an actuator for the sliding doors was replaced but the failure recurred shortly after the contact retrieved the vehicle from the dealer. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 94,000.
I like many other 2005 dodge caravan owners has experienced a automatic door lock failure. after taking the van out once door locks operated perfectly, upon 2nd trip that day i noticed when i went to lock the doors with the remote they did not lock, i tried the internal door lock switch it did not work. i was advised (via website) to pull the 20a iod fuse and replace it which i did and the locks worked for about three cycles and stopped again. the doors no longer lock upon shifting into gear either which means the passenger doors (where the children sit) do not lock while on the road and can be opened while the vehicle is in motion without the effort of pulling up the door lock stem. i am going to take it to the dealer for a computer update which i am told sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. the next step is to replace the module at considerable cost. *tr
My 2005 dodge grand caravan door locks stopped working and when car drives 20mph they no longer automatic lock, this is a safety issue with children. when contacting dodge they said its a software update that is needed. since when do we buy cars and then need to pay hundreds to have the software updated. with thousands of complaints on the internet with the same problems and no body wants to make this a recall. i guess dodge/chrysler are waiting for a child to be killed before making this a recall. if any of my children get hurt there will be a lawsuit. *tr
Power locks stopped working on 2006 dodge grand caravan. there was no indication of this initially and my daughter opened the rear door while the car was in motion. everyone i have spoken with is experiencing the exact same problem with this year and model. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated the automatic lock on the fob does not work. the sliding doors on the left and right side of the vehicle will not unlock after being locked. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who previously reset the computer which was the body control module and the resetting of two codes. the vehicle will be taken back to the dealer for a second repair. the manufacturer stated this was not a known failure and offered no other assistance. the failure mileage was 84,000 and the current mileage was 164,000.
2005 dodge caravan door locks quit working, and required a software update to fix. treated as a chargeable item for something they knew about during the warranty period. *tr
Power door locks stop working on dodge grand caravan 2005 model. this now happens everyday. when this happens it may allow occupants to be thrown from the vehicle in cases of accident or allow unwanted persons to enter the vehicle without forced entry. initially this could be temporarily fixed by removal and re-insertion of the iod fuse under the hood. this procedure now does not work anymore. it is my understanding that this is a software issue that dodge must fix with a upgrade. *tr
Doors will not lock or unlock electronically on door switches or key fob. can reset iod fuse by pulling out of fuse box and re-inserting; electric door locks will work for a few days then problem comes back. *tr
Failure of the auto door locking mechanism to work while driving the car or trying to lock car upon exiting the vehicle. i temporarily fixed the problem by removing the iod 20 amp fuse for 20 seconds and then replacing it thus resetting the system and then it works again. my research leads me to believe a fault in the bcm firmware of the main computer module for this car. this could be very dangerous in case of a accident as you cannot unlock the doors inside or outside with the remote if the doors are locked manually other than the drivers door with the key in case of an accident. *tr
The door automatic door locks quit working. you cannot open the vehicle without the key. the locks no longer lock automatically when you get up to speed. i have checked on car complaints.com and this appears to be a very common problem that dodge is refusing to acknowledge. *tr
We own a 2005 dodge grand caravan with 74.000 miles on it. the power locks will repeatedly lock when i use my keyless remote entry or the overhead console buttons to open the sliding doors. these doors should be unlocking but instead everything is locking. while i'm driving, i can hear the clicking of the locks "re-locking" even though they are in the locked position. this happens when the rear wiper is running or i press and release the window control button. sometimes i hit the power lock button on the driver door to lock all doors but nothing locks. i have had this happen before, but for shorter periods of time. with 5 doors of entry, i never know if my car is truly locked. *tr
Headlights will not turn on and have turned off (on their own) while driving. this has happened before and i had to mess with the switch repeatedly on multiple occasions before the lights would come back on. also, the door locks stop locking/unlocking and we have to pull the fuse, then put it back in for them to work again. vehicle is a 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt. *tr
2005 dodge grand caravan - power door lock failure/intermittent operation. temporary fix of removing fuse no longer works. issuing occurring even when trying to lock doors with remote. obvious manufacture issue due to numerous similar complaints, dealer network is aware of tsb, dealerships willing to charge for diagnosis of known issue. *tr
My 2005 dodge grand caravan the auto door locks/remote door locks have stopped working. have tried following instructions in manual and even have tried disconnecting the battery cable to reset. these were only temporary fixes, that no longer works along with the doors. i have to manually lock/unlock the doors which is a huge inconvenience with a child under the age of 2. my fear now is that my child will figure out how to open the door since it wont lock and fall out. the remote door lock feature was one of the reasons why we purchased this vehicle because of our family. please have this recalled so we can feel safe with our children. *tr
The power locks on the 2005 dodge caravan completely quit working . a quick fix is to pull the iod fuse for five seconds and put it back . it will work for a little while then locks gone again. though the vehicle does automatic lock at 15mph still. this poses a issue because if in an accident you would have to manually unlock the doors to get out .forums have been posting this issue for awhile while dodge will not recall. this is not the only electrical issue the resister to the blower motor will continuously go out . personally i have had to change my 4 times in one year already. i believe dodge needs to find a permanent solution to its electrical issues before something worse happens. *tr
2005 dodge caravan power door locks quit working. only 55,000 miles on vehicle. there is only one keyed entry into the vehicle, making this a safety threat. this is a well-known issue that is reported on numerous websites, including www.carcomplaints.com. problem seems to be widespread on the caravan and town & country models, occurring between 50-70,000 miles. chrysler/dodge is not recognizing this as a systemic issue with the platform although frequency of occurrence would suggest otherwise.
My 2005 dodge grand caravan power locks have quit working. it happened back in 2006 when i bought the van. i have reset the fuse several times but now it gets shorter and shorter between resets. several other dodge grand caravan owners are having this same problem. my wife drives the kids in this van and not knowing if the van locks or not is very dangerous. when locked everything "sounds" like it is locking so it is hard to tell without paying very close attention. *tr
I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan and have had nothing but electrical problems with it. our automatic sliding door on passenger side has been repaired once already and quit working about 6 months later. our power door locks now will not work with either the key fob or from inside on the switch. the lights on the dash go out and come on a various times. these are serious issues and dealerships are charging an arm and leg to just look at it and you still aren't guaranteed how long it will remain functional.*tr
Power door locks not working, they either won't lock or unlock until you pull the iod fuse, this fixes it until a few days later. i have to continue to do this several times a week. this is a safety issue, if you were involved in an accident or fire of a vehicle you may not have time to unlock the doors or if the door locks are not locking and your going down the road and a kid could open the door. this problem needs to be recalled before a tragedy happens. *tr
I purchased the van used (1 owner) around 74,500 miles. i noticed that the headlights flickered for a good 30 secs. after using anything else electrical. after a few weeks, the power door looks stopped working. the rear hatch still would lock/unlock. i reset the system by unplugging the battery. this fixed the light flickering problem, but only worked temporarily for the locks. i eventually took it to the dealer to "flash" the computer, and update software on the bcm. this worked also for a few days, but now again the locks are not working. now the dealer is saying that the bcm must be faulty, and needs to be repaired/replaced. this is going to cost $500-$600! i feel that this is a safety issue, especially because i have a small child. i need to count on being able to lock/unlock my vehicle in a timely manner because i don't work in the nicest neighborhood. i have now made my first payment of the van, which was less then what i have already put into it for repairs. chrysler should offer to fix this problem or at least offer some sort of compensation, especially with so many customers having the same problem. *tr
Electronic door lock and unlock feature fails. there are only 2 doors where a manual key entry is available, the drivers door and tailgate. this also disables opening the sliding side doors as they won't automatically unlock. also disabled are the automatic door locking at speed for safety. you can temporarily fix this by disconnecting the fuse or battery for a short time and reconnecting. there are numerous complaints on the internet about this problem. dodge should fix this on a recall. *tr
2005 dodge grand caravan automatic door lock/unlock will just stop working. i have been to dealer twice and they have charged me $49.95 for "repair". the latest episode happened apx. 6 months after last "repair". i went online to carcomplaints.com and found a host of other owners with same repeated problem. i then removed fuse and put it back in and it has temporarily fixed the problem. i have complained to the dealer, but they are "unaware of anyone else having the same problem". they will be glad to look into what might be causing my problem for a minimum charge of $50. of course "there may be additional charges for parts and labor." i have already paid almost $100 for dealer to remove and replace the same fuse plus on one of my visits they gave me an estimate of over $3,000 in other repairs they just happened to find. after taking my car to 2 other repair shops for estimates, i was informed they could not find anything wrong and saw no signs of "problem" dealer supposedly diagnosed. it was an attempt to rip off a consumer. *tr
I must say how very troubling it is to see so many of us with the same complaint filing here on this web site about the safety issue with the power lock elements on these mini vans!!!! i too have had nothing but trouble starting when i purchased this vehicle a 2005 grand caravan by dodge. with two young children (one in my arms) in the rain attempting to unlock one (1) door (drivers) with a key because the added convenience of a key fob door lock and unlock function refuses to stay working time after time. although there are many "quick" fixes on the internet by every other irritated consumer, they just don't work period. dodge technicians don't even seem to know what is wrong, they just through fuses and parts at it to attempt to rectify the situation. dodge must have an inkling of what is going on??? you people here at the nhtsa and the ntsb have got to help us. i'm sure even some people you know or even you yourself have had this problem. *tr
Power door locks and electric windows stop working....happens approx every two weeks. have removed the iod fuse and then everything works, for approx. 2 weeks, then everything stops working again. the procedure is repeated. many complaints and same solution as above on internet. dodge should have a recall to repair. happening to often to many of us. *tr
Power door locks not functioning. not with the switch on door or with remote. *tr
2005 dodge caravan power door lock failure. have to remove 20amp fuse on iod to work. then it doesn't work again in an hour. *tr
This website shows just a sample of the people having trouble with their 2005 dodge caravans' door locks that quit working...it's a safety issue and dodge isn't doing anything about it. how am i to keep my kids from opening doors? we're so busy taking issue with toyota that we're ignoring dodge's inability to do the right thing. please take this as an issue --- how many people must complain before you do something about it? dodge wants to replace a module...but as you'll see from the site below it doesn't fix it. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grad caravan. the vehicle was parked and shut off when he engaged the key fob to lock the doors. the doors did lock until he manually locked them. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where it was repaired. the failure has recurred four times. after each failure the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where it was repaired. the failure mileage was 56,000 and the current mileage was 84,000. the vin was unavailable.
Dodge 2005 grand caravan. driver side door would refuse to open with inside button by door. would open if pushed console button. the door would decide that it was not closed properly and fully open while driving. (very dangerous). the passenger side would open only if you used the key bob and had a jerky motion that would trip a sensor and close the door(usually on a passenger getting in or out of the vehicle. the door was adjusted and door motor replaced. still had a problem with the door occasionally bumping the side of the vehicle. verified that the vehicle had not been in an accident and resolved by leaving the plastic interior door cover off. the problem with the doors opening and closing by themselves was found in both cases to be linked to the door wiring harness. also both door refuse to lock (not a thing that you check when looking at a car and was found by accident) searching the internet showed that this was a well known problem. *tr
2005 dodge grand caravan - door locks stop working at random times; electrical surges. please check the online message boards related to this issue. there are hundreds of incidents (like mine) that i have counted so far. we have 4 children and only one way to enter or exit the vehicle! we have spent hundreds so far on fixes that are only temporary. based on the number of complaints i have read after just 30 minutes of searching the web, there is no way chrysler is not aware of this hazard... *tr
Automatic door locks do not work. can push lock down but key and automatic locks do not work. had to crawl through back of van. children locked in car unable to open locks. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while traveling 20 mph, the power locks did not automatically lock. the vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's destination and was later taken to a private mechanic where it was confirmed that the on-board computer failed and needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was repaired. the failure recurred several times since the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was 40,243 and the current mileage was 80,713.
The power locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan do not work consistently. just like the many other people experiencing the same problem, i have to take the iod fuse out for 10 seconds, and put it back in to get the power locks to work. even then, the power locks will work for maybe a few hours, and then they stop working. very frustrating. this is also a safety concern. dodge needs to recall these vehicles and fix this electronic/computer problem. *tr
2005 dodge grand caravan - the power door looks quit working on the 2005 dodge grand caravan due to a defective computer programming in the dodge computers. there are thousands experiencing this problem which can be temporarily fixed by pulling a fuse and replacing it, but the real fix requires dodge to re-program the computer. this is a significant safety issue and must be addressed by dodge. i have found many with the same problem. *tr
I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt model and the automatic door locks no longer function. this appears to be a common problem with this make/model year. this is no safe as the only way to unlock vehicle is with key at drivers side door. there are no other doors with key access. this could be very dangerous in a crash or other emergency situation. *tr
2005 dodge grand caravan power locks not working. pulled iod fuse and are working again. found thousands of complaints on web. iod only temporary fix. dodge knows the problem and is doing nothing. shame!!!! *tr
