I purchased my 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt about 1 year ago. when purchased, driver's side sliding door was not working at all. the dealer replaced the wire harness last summer and the door worked fine. 10 months later, it suddenly stopped working with no warning. the door will open to about 8 inches then stop and closes to the same point and stops. *tr
We have 2005 dodge grand caravan, the lights on the van keeping turning on when opening the door they stay on for a long time, then they shut off and during the day they turn on by themselves and even in the middle of the night because the battery will loose power after it happens so many times, have not been able to find the problem, went by dodge dealerships and they say they have never heard of such complaint. *tr
My driver side window has lost power 2 times now. the first time we replaced the motor to the power window, this was less than 2 months ago. now the window has stopped working again, i have tried everything and the window will not roll up it is stuck down in the door.*tr
I was braking as i was descending a hill on the highway when the front brakes got so hot that my automobile started to shimmy. i stopped and discovered that my right front brakes were on fire. i had my front brakes pads and rotors replaced about 7,000 miles ago with mopar value line brakes at the dodge dealership. my vehicle is a 2005 dodge grand caravan with 56,380 miles on it. *tr
2005 dodge grand caravan srt door locks don't work. disconnecting negative battery terminal and removing and replacing the 40 amp fuse evidently resets the computer and they now work. it has been reported that the fix is temporary. i will wait to see how long they work. *tr
Our 2005 dodge grand caravan no longer locks with the automatic door locks. it also will not unlock the doors. when the automatic door lock is pressed on the remote control, the horn sounds and give the impression that the doors lock, but they do not. also the vehicle no longer automatically locks the doors when 20 mph is achieved. these are safety hazards as we have been made to believe that the doors were locked when they were not locked. *tr
My minivan's air conditioning stopped working so i took it into the dealer. this car already was in for a recall on the rear air conditioning/heating lines which were replaced in november of 2006. the dealer told me that it was not the recall lines that were leaking but the rear extension lines which are after the recall lines. the parts are also on backorder for well over one month or more. i was told that they were having a lot of repairs on this part. i cannot help but believe that the original recall for rear air conditioning/heating lines should have included the rear air conditioning/heating extension lines also. bear in mind that my van is around 3 1/2 years old with 42,112 miles on it. *tr
I am in the process of replacing the rack in the steering component of my van for the second time. the first was 6 months after purchase, now a year and a half later and out of warranty. i researched this problem and found several databases of numerous complaints of the same thing. i purchased this vehicle thinking it was safe for my son and am now afraid of driving it. *tr
In 2005 we purchased a new dodge grand caravan and had it modified for my husband to drive from his wheelchair, spending $50,000 total for this vehicle/modifications. in the span of two years, we've had electrical issues ' door locks not working part of the time, battery drain that can't be located, bad door sensors, etc. we also replaced the rack and pinion unit (under warranty). just 18 months later the rack and pinion unit was bad again. since it was out of warranty, we spent $1,129 to fix it. it's ridiculous that this part went bad again so soon. do we have to spend $1000 every year to replace this obviously defective part? the dodge dealer my husband worked with informed him that the rack and pinion unit now comes with a cooler to help with this issue, so obviously dodge is aware that this part is defective and has a short lifespan. if this is the case, why wasn't a recall sent out to add the cooler to this unit. i'm very dissatisfied with our dodge van and will probably never purchase from dodge/chrysler/jeep again! shouldn't a recently installed part last longer than 18 months? isn't that reasonable? we've gone through two rack and pinion units in the last two years for a 2005 vehicle ' that's ridiculous! shame on dodge for not assisting customers with this known defective part! on top of your average dodge grand caravan customer, there are a lot of disabled customers out there who have spent above and beyond what it should cost to drive and to have that vehicle break down continuously sucks!! my husband can't just hitch a ride with a neighbor or even rent a car for that matter. he had to miss work while dodge spent an entire day replacing a part they just replaced a few months ago. i'm just wondering what will break next! *tr
2005 dodge grand caravan, 71,000 miles, air conditioning stop putting out cold air - no leaks but compressor started to make noises and seized, shut a/c off just in time before the compressor pulley burned thru the one belt that drives everthing - this could be a safety issue if out in the middle of nowhere. *jb
The power door locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan stopped working at about 67,000 miles. i've had a mechanic look at it and he can't figure it out. i have found many complaints about the same problem in online forums and decided if this is a widespread problem then dodge ought to do something to fix it. no power door locks is a safety issue! *tr
2005 grand caravan sxt was purchased on january 12, 2005. this is my second dodge caravan. my first was a 1999. on december 21, 2005, after less than one year, with 17248 miles on the vehicle, the rack and pinion assembly failed and needed to be replaced. i brought it in because i was hearing a whining sound when i turned the steering wheel and there were oil spots on my garage floor, under the front left side of my vehicle. i was told by the dealer that this was a known problem and, since it was sitll under warranty, i wasn't to worried as long as it would be fixed. on may 22, 2007, after less than one and a half years after the first rack and pinion replacement and with 41558 miles on the vehicle, the rack and pinion assembly failed and needed to be replaced, again. i brought it in because this time i was hearing a loud rubbing/whining sound when i turned the steering wheel to the left and there were oil spots on the same spot on my garage floor, under the front left side of my vehicle. i don't understand how i need to put a third rack and pinion assembly in my van after only less than two and a half years of ownership and only 41558 miles on the vehicle! i was told that it would cost me around $800-$900 for the repair, parts and labor! i have to pay that amount of money every year, or year and a half, for a known problem?
Several problems with 2005 dodge grand caravan.... *nm
Reference to case with sway bar bushing problem ref. number 10173990 . i had the same problem with my 2005 grand caravan with 25000 miles on it. i took it to the dealer and they repaired it no problem at no cost. then on 23 nov 2006 my van just died. battery was dead. would not jump start at all. towing service could not jump start it either and said something major was wrong. they towed to dealer in shreveport on flat bed where they said the battery was bad. but the good news they said it was all covered under warranty. and they also told me everything from front bumper to rear bumper is 100 percent covered under the warranty for the first 3 years/36,000 miles. so i don't understand why the dealers are so inconsistent is warranty repairs. it states in the manual what is and is not covered and to sum that up anything that shows any sign if hitting a hazard in the road is not covered. maybe we should start a class action here. *nm
My 2005 dodge caravan (id4gp24rx5b305163) had the rack and pinion replaced at 30,709 miles. at 47,208 miles the rack and pinion and pump had to replaced again. the vehicle was seen by dealer before several times before they confirmed the problem with the rack and pinion. *nm
On jan 22,05 i had my 05' dodge grand caravan in the dealership because my air bag light had come on, they supposedly replaced my sensor along w/ my wiring harness, well on feb 26 06 my air bag light came on again, the dealership deal maker said i could bring my car in but i'll have to pay for it to be checked along w/ any repair, and this is because my warranty had expired. i don't feel i am responsible to pay for any repair on this. none the less for them to supposedly replace my sensor last year, along w/ my wiring harness and spark plugs beause of misfiring etc. to have bought this car used in nov of 04 and then to have it in on jan 05 is a little ridiculous. i have 40 some thousand miles on my car. and this issue should of been done correct the first time. *nm
2005 dodge grand caravan developed problems with the heating and air conditioner system.***no answer required***. *mr while driving the a/c lines blew. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer who explained that this was a known problem with the air and heat. the problem could not be fixed because the part was on back order. *nm
Purchased a 2005 doge grand caravan from bob caldwell dodge dealership about 2 months ago. a little over a month of having the vehicle the air conditioning just stop putting out cool air and we noticeds some spots of something leaking in the drive way. we took the vehichle back to the dealership where we purchased and they indicated that a stone or rock had went through the air conditioner's compressor. there was nothing they could do and it would be $800+ to fix it. they indicated also that we weren't the first and that because of the design and the placement of the compressor that we won't be the last and even if we fix it, it will probably happen again. we called dodge directly and they spoke with the dealership and agreed that this was not something that they would considered under any warranty and denied to cover the payment of the services. we called around locally to other dealerships and there was a total of 5 in less then one week and all agree that is was some sort of design/placement flaw and that this would continue to happen. we could attach a screen protection somehow to the front to protect the compressor but still no guarentees.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the brakes have been repaired five times. the rotors have been turned once and replaced twice two months ago. when the complaint was filed, the rotors needed to be replaced again. the dealer stated that the failures are caused by "faulty" driving. chrysler has not been contacted. the air conditioner malfunctioned three times and was repaired. every season the air conditioner malfunctions. the rear hoses were replaced twice along with the compressor. the power locks on all of the doors were defective. the passengers were unable to open the door although the door locks were in the unlocked position. the passenger front windows started making a clanging noise when it was opened and that was repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 9,000. the current mileage was approximately 83,000.
Cd system would not eject the cd inserted in it and the whole system shut off. *jb
