The vehicle was stationary, parked in a garage overnight when the head restraint partially deployed. upon touching the headrest to investigate the head restraint fully deployed.
Vehicle was stationary in my driveway, i was sitting in the driver seat. vehicle was running, but in "park", driver's door open. my husband reached in from outside to hug me goodbye, and the driver's side headrest popped open. powerful enough to move my head forward, but not powerful enough to cause pain or injury. we tried to put it back together (not realizing that there was an airbag in there), and were unsuccessful. i drove approximately 4 miles to work afterwards, adjusting the seat a bit so as not to impede my posture.
While driving, my headrest suddenly deployed and gave my head a jolt and left me with neck pain and discomfort in my shoulder.
I went to my neighbors house put my vehicle in park and left it running, i got out went inside for not even 5 minutes, when i opened the driver door i noticed the headrest safety thing has deployed.
As we were getting in the truck the driver side airbag on the head rest exploded. thank god i wasn't in the seat just yet when it went off.
After arriving home and placing the car in park i was struck in the back of the head. the active headrest restraint failed causing it to release. the plastic holding tabs appear to be broken off.

The vehicle was traveling in a straight line on southbound interstate 5, and traveling at freeway speeds. the front passenger seat head rest unexpectedly deployed- striking the person seated in that seat in the head. thankfully, it was not the driver's side headrest as this unexpected impact to the head may have caused a reaction resulting in loss of control of the vehicle. when checking online, there appear to multiple occurrences of this type of unnecessary deployment of this type of safety device on dodge vehicles of this era.

Front passenger active restraint headrest deployed while driving without collision or other known event on city street at posted speed. my teenage son sitting in seat while restrained was struck in back of the head when headrest deployed forward, but he was not injured by this event. the headrest cannot be repaired or reset, and fiat chrysler america (dodge) has discontinued this part and no longer keeps it in stock for replacement nor do they offer an alternative part to make the seat/headrest safe and serviceable.
I was driving my 2013 dodge durango citadel. while driving approximately 45 mph the passenger side headrest became dislodged and sprung open out of no where. thankfully, no one was in the seat as they could have been severely injured. after contacting the dealership it appears the plastic retaining pin receiver had broke. small pieces of plastic were inside the headrest and it is unable to be reset. the dealership does not cover this under any warranty and it would be almost $800 to repair. i believe this headrest is also connected to my airbag deployment system. it is unknown if any further issues could happen from this.
As me and my mother was sitting in burger king drive thru the passenger front seat headrest suddenly disengaged and hit my mother in back of the head.
Vehicle was parked. male driver exited vehicle and leaned back into driver's seat to retrieve belongings from behind passengers seat. upon doing so he placed his hand on the headrest of the driver's seat. it was at this time that the active head restraint system activated on the driver seat. upon examination by mechanic it was determined that plastic hinges had broken in the headrest. vehicle purchased new 8/2013, 150k miles. replacement headrest: $650 plus labor.

While driving on the highway i felt my head jerk forward and heard a pop from my headrest. at the time i was driving straight going about 68 mph. when i felt the impact behind my head my instinct was to hit my brake thinking someone had hit me from behind, but once i looked around there was no one close behind or to the sides of me. i pulled off the highway and looked at the headrest and noticed it had popped open. this only occurred on the driver seat headrest. again, i was not involved in any collision at or around the time of the incident. i have been in collisions years prior to this, but none from behind.
I dropped the keys between the car seat and the console. i moved the seat to the farthest position that i would go back. i turned to sit on the outside of the door frame in order to put my left hand in to reach the keys. there was nothing moving before i moved my hand. as soon as i touched the keys the seat came down on to my left ring finger. i t just moved in a downward position. i called 911 because i was unable to free my hand. the winslow police department responded and assisted with freeing my hand. the car was parked in the driveway and not moving at the time. i went to the patient first care center and they did x-rays on my hand.
Vehicle was backed into a parking spot at a restaurant with no possibility of a rear end collision when the active head restraint on the drivers side deployed. fortunately we were parked, otherwise it could have very easily caused an accident. i have noticed a number of complaints about the issue from others as well. the plastic that holds the retention rod broke causing the release, so the whole unit has to be replaced at my cost. you can see the broken plastic in the provided picture. this could be a serious safety issue if it deployed while someone was driving down the highway. i have been in contact with the local dealership where it was purchased 3 days prior to the incident.
The passenger side seat active head rest deployed on it's own while driving down the highway. i took a look inside to reset it and noticed the plastic housing that holds the locking rod in place had broke and the locking mechanism hadn't opened, thus allowing the headrest to be unable to be reset since the locking rod just gets pulled back out do to the tension on the springs.
While driving in a parking lot at aprox 15 mph drivers side head rest exploded slamming into the back of my head causing some pain . this startled me and if in a different scenerio could have caused an accident. when dealer contacted they stated clips could of broken, and not covered by the warranty.
As i was driving i heard a pop and didn't know what is was. after looking i saw that it was my driver seat headrest. it had popped open and i thought i could just close it but i couldn't. about a week later the passenger side did the same thing with no one being in the seat. i thought that maybe this was a fluke happening, but i have read that there are quite a few customers out there that have the same problem. i would like to know my options.

My wife and i were driving down the road when the passenger side active headrest deployed. when it deployed it hit her in the back of the head and gave her whiplash. i researched it online and it appears that this is a common problem with dodge vehicles. i attempted to reset the spring loaded active headrest to discover that the reason it had deployed is because the plastic retaining pin receiver was broken. i have attempted to contact dodge (case#32447405) with no resolve. i feel like the headrest should certainly be recalled. if an older person had been hit in the head or if it were on the drivers side of the vehicle it may have caused serious injury, a crash, or death. i can email photos upon your request. your pursuit of this matter would be greatly appreciated.
The active headrest/head restraint deployed while driving, hitting my wife in the back of the head. she was traveling approximately 30-35mph. this caught her off guard but fortunately did not affect her driving and she maintained control of the vehicle. the vehicle was not involved in an accident. after inspecting the head restraint i notice the plastic that apparently holds a metal rod broke allowing the head restraint to deploy. in researching the active head restraint issues, i ran across a recall for chrylser but it did not pertain to my make and model and it was for possible non deployment during rear end collision. safety recall n38 /nhtsa 13v-282 active head restraints
Backing out of garage and th drivers side head rest ejected. no rear impact or anything. it hit me in the back of the head and scared me to death. took the car by the dodge dealership and they said it was not under warranty and they zip tied it together.

Since day one of owning the durango i have had a bad vibration in the steering wheel, larry h miller dodge in avondale told me i had bad tires so i replaced the tires (@450 miles) then they told me that i had bad wheels so i replaced them with new tires and wheels. i still have the vibration and my vehicle has been in the dealer over 7 times now. today lhmd service manager explained to me that they took wheels off of a new durango on the lot and the vibration was worse, they went on to tell me that "all durango's have this vibration" . the vibration can be felt in the steering wheel and could cause loss of control of vehicle if vibration gets worse (or if defective part that is causing vibration fails). i would like to know where i should go from here. *tr
1. owned car since jan 2013. leather started cracking immediately. took into dealership and they said i had to get fixed. went back to shop for something else and mentioned the cracking again and was told i could have gotten fixed but my coverage had expired. the cracking is really bad on the armrest in car. have been over to dealership and called regarding the recall i have. it is always on backorder and someone will call when in. i have not received a call and i see this is a serious recall. is this really important to the dealership that these recalls gets repaired. i would like to get this repaired immediately as well as my cracking leather which has been overlooked.
