Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2011 Dodge Durango

Defective tipm. i'm posting these comments shortly after receiving a call from my local dodge service center advising me of the cause of my vehicle not starting. if this is a problem that has been experienced by many chrysler owners (tipm), then i find it shameful that chrysler has not implemented a fix. fortunately i have an extended warranty to cover the repair, but i dislike having to use it for a known problem. updated 4/24/2015 *js

I have taking my truck to the dealership 3 times now and still have a starting issue. they replaced the win module and that did not work. they read some codes from it and did nothing. i was making a right hand turn from a light last week and i went to hit the gas and the suv just stalled. also the other day i was sitting in line at a drive through and it just went off. it is very hard to get it to start 95% of the time. it takes me 10 to 15 mins every morning to get it started. *js

Tipm module is starting to fail. vehicle is currently having issues starting. *tr

Vehicle extremely hard to start - can spend over 10 minutes pushing start button with no success. fuel pump remains on when vehicle is off and parked. i am not comfortable driving this vehicle with these problems, as i can be stranded anywhere when the vehicle won't start. *tr

Car has problems started. but not always. *tr

When the key is put inside the ignition, it takes a couple of tries for the engine to start (if at all) after failing multiple times. after it starts, sometimes the engine shuts down completely when i am driving at 30+mph and when i hit a stop sign/red light! this is very dangerous and needs to be fixed! *js

The problem first manifested itself in an occasional difficulty starting the vehicle, typically after it sat overnight. upon pressing the start button the starter would engage but the engine would not start. pressing the start button again to stop the cranking and then re-pressing the button would get the engine to start. weeks would sometimes go by without the problem recurring. around the middle of july 2014 the problem started to get much worse, the car sometimes not starting multiple times during the day even after short stops. around the end of july my wife had the problem happen to her, got the vehicle started, but as she backed out of a parking spot the vehicle stalled in the traffic lane. after that incident i took the vehicle to a dodge dealership where they "cleared several fault codes" and sent me on my way. three days later the vehicle once again wouldn't start, but the "reset and repress" tactic would work and the vehicle would run. around august 7 2014 the problem got much worse. the vehicle took multiple attempts and 1-2 minutes to get running on several mornings, now though the vehicle would stall once started and before moving. once running, in gear, and moving the car would run fine. car failed to start then each morning aug 15-17, taking 1-2 minutes each morning and multiple stalls. on afternoon of august 17, 5 minutes after making a dealer apt for next morning, i was driving at about 10 miles per hour and the engine died completely, power steering and brakes went out as well. only after 3 minutes did finally using the remote start function on the key fob get the vehicle to start and run, this on a very busy roadway blocking a lane of traffic. next day vehicle would not start at the dealer either, they diagnosed a bad tipm module and offered me a new module for $1200 or a "relay kit" for $587. new module cured problem for now. *tr

Tipm problem. *tr

The tipm! i need to say no more. we need a recall to protect us. *tr

When attempting to use the push button ignition to start the vehicle, the vehicle crank over to start and then stutter out or crank to start and get stuck cranking until operator shut it down- sometimes would not shut down immediately but keep stuttering for a short period of time. upon bringing to dealership, the mechanic identified issues w/ lariant #5 stating need to be replaced with the new style lariant #6. dealership informed me- not covered under any type of warranty. why not? what is wrong with lariant #5 that needed to be upgraded to a new version? after researching online, multiple owners of the 2011 durango have reported issues of this same part. an investigation needs to be performed on this faulty part from the factory. dodge is aware of this safety issue and has done nothing to resolve and no recall has been issued. this has resulted in heavy consumer out of pocket costs for a newer vehicle. *tr

On saturday morning i attempted to crank my 2011 dodge durango my push start and it tried to crank but would not. i had to remove the push start button and crank the car manually, which took several attempts. after i got it started i had no more trouble that day. on sunday the problem got worse. it again had to remove the remote start botton because the car would continuously try to start without success. when we would get the car started it would immediately die. after several attempts and pressing the gas we were able to get the car started. i began to read online and found that thousands of people are having the same issue and that it is a fualty tipm. i contacted the dodge dealer and have an appointment to take my car in. not happy!! *js

On the above date my wife was driving through the town of pax, wv when our 2011 dodge durango stalled in the middle of the street, on an incline. thankfully she was near a church and was able to coast into the parking lot. since that time i have had to purchase a new battery ( $200) because our fuel pump will not shut off, even when the car is turned off. i have to unhook the positive battery leads to get it to go off. i have had 2 diagnostics run on it and they both came up with negative results ( one was run by a local mechanic the other by a registered chrysler dealer at $99). i took it to a third mechanic who told me it was my tipm and it would have to be changed at a dealership so that it could be programmed correctly. this part will cost $852 and with labor will cost me around $1100. this is extra money i should not be having to spend seeing as how i have owned this car for less than a year. chrysler knows the problem is there they should be made to do something before someone is killed! *tr

Woke up the day before the fourth of july and got myself and the kids ready to travel out of town. loaded everyone in the car and the truck wouldn't start. i pushed the button and it acted like it would start but it would never turn over. i tried for twenty minutes and could not get it started. i had to get it towed to the dealership. they first said it was a wiring and it would be couple of days. but then they called back today and said it is the tipm and they are not sure how long it will be because they have to order the part and it will take "awhile" to get it in. this is my only vehicle to get me to work and three kids to all the places they have to be. this is going to be a headache and the price went from 200 dollars to over 1,000 dollars. i could take that and use it on a downpayment for something else. chrysler is way out of line allowing consumers to deal with a problem that they created. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. the contact received a notification for recall nhtsa campaign id number: 14v154000 (service brakes and service brakes, hydraulic) and campaign id number: 14v391000 (lighting). however, the parts were not available. the dealer did not provide a specific date when the parts would become available. the manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the contacts vehicle would receive the recall repairs. the contact was not experiencing a failure.

My 2011 dodge durango has been having trouble starting over the past few days. it would not start and just kept trying to turn over. eventually after a few attempts it would start. then today it started and after i left the house and was driving with my 3yr old in the car, the durango stalled in the middle of the road. thankfully i was approaching a stop sign so i was not going very fast. it started up again but now tonight it sounds like there is a fan running under my car, and the car is off. i am very concerned about all of the things i have been reading about this issue and i believe this is a huge safety concern that needs to be addressed immediately!!!! *tr

Problems i've seen over the last year that seem to be related to faulty tipm: - failure to detect key - thinks key has left vehicle - remote start disabled - failure to start vehicle - "key battery low" message (key batteries are in fact full charge) - while driving: - battery light comes on (nearly every time the vehicle is driven) - entire dash 'reboots' or resets completely - have had alternator and remote start module replaced (under warranty) - paid to have battery replaced at about 2.5 years into ownership not once has any service person even mentioned tipm. *tr

On june 20, 2014, my dodge durango citadel stalled in traffic at 50 mph, almost causing a horrible accident. this was the 2nd time it had occurred. i coasted the vehicle to a side street. *tr

Vehicle began on occasion, to not start, to shut down after starting and for the fuel pump to continue to run after the car was shut down causing the battery to be run down. it has been determined to be a failed tipm unit at the cost of $963.04 for a vehicle that is 3 years old. the dealer ship is aware of the issues however chrysler hotline said they are unaware of any problems and will not cover the part. *tr

The truck don't start is a problem with the push start

My 2011 dodge durango cranks but wont turn over after several tries it would start and after a few days it just wouldn't turn on at all.so i had to call a tow truck to tow it in to dealership.still had extended warranty on my durango so i took it back to dealership and they informed me they would have to replace my tipm and all i had to pay was my deductible.so i picked it up when they fixed it. drove it home and put about 30 miles on it and my engine light came back on so i called and they had me take it back the next morning now they said it was an ignition coil and expected me to pay my deductible again. after some discussion they waved to fee.and i received my car back after another day in a half. i drove it home and as i got there we noticed the right front turn signal didn't work instead my fog lights would blink so i called dealership and they said they needed some codes to reprogram the turn signal. i had only put about 15 miles on it since i picked it up and my engine light is back on again. so here i go 4th day back to dealership and its so frustrating that no one cares after so many complaints on this part (tipm).i guess they are waiting till someone gets hurt or dies. like the case with gm and there faulty ignition switch. i was lucky my durango stopped working in my driveway and not on the road cause i have 3 small children and they are always with me.just pray to god that nothing happens to my children. *tr

I have a 2011 dodge durange that has a failing tipm (totally integrated power module) and dodge is aware of this problem however, will continue to sell the cars without fixing so we get so spend over 1,000.00 to fix it! *tr

Car just shut off while pulling out into a busy intersection, would not restart. the starter would engage but it would not start the car...car engine would sputter continuously. loss of power, and electricity. almost caused me to get hit from the side while my 2 kids were in back seat!!!!!! the other car slammed on breaks stopping mere inches from the driver-side. a 5 car pile up behind him occurred due to this matter! a gentleman pushed me to the side of the road where i waited for a tow truck. before the tow truck arrived i researched problems this vehicle only to find that i'm not the only one that has had this happen!!!!! after the car was turned off for a while, i tried to start it and it would start after several attempts and my pumping the gas pedal to keep it at a idle until the engine caught on that it was supposed to be running. i avoided the tow fine but drove my car to the autozone 1/2 mile up the road (same side of the road...too scared to cross intersections). there was no diagnostic code found, which come to find out is also common when the tipm is faulty! every time 3 out of 5 times i try to start my car i have to go through the same thing. this car is not safe and it needs to be fixed asap. i have a family and a job that need this car to operate efficiently. *tr

Vehicle does not start. and, when it starts it stalls. totally integrated power module is faulty and does not send electricity to the fuel pump, thus starving the engine. after a month the car is totally unusable. *tr

Our vehicle had it's first non-start in june 2014. it has continued on for months, at random intervals. our durango now won't start by using the push start or by using the key in the ignition. i am seeing a trend online of tipm issues and class action suits. i am assuming this is our issue. it is currently at the dealership. *tr

Car would not crank. *tr

Durango had a difficult time starting, it would take several attempts to start especially after sitting over night or during the work day. before i could get it to a dealership, the truck failed to start (thankfully i was at home) and we had to have the truck towed to the dealership. after roughly 2 weeks the tipm was replaced/repaired and i picked up the truck on 6/10/14. the truck now starts fine, however, the signal lights do not work, now- and the fog lights flash when the signal lights are supposed to be on! in many cases i have heard this also affects my brake lights!! my legal vehicle is now illegal and not at my own fault but through chrysler/dodge. *tr

I recently purchased a 2011 dodge durango. i love this vehicle. only problem i have encountered just recent, is the rear ac. for some reason, it will turn to high fan setting and the highest temperature possible. the rear controls are on cool and the fan is set to low. i also have the same settings for the front. i have read different forums online and seen several people talking about this matter. yesterday my daughter began to cry because the 3rd row was extremely hot from the heater being on. do you know of chrysler is aware of the possible problem. please respond if you can assist me. *tr

The vehicle started smoking while parked. vehicle will not start. it was taken to a collision center, but they couldn't figure out what the problem is. the vehicle was later taken to the dodge dealer and they still have not determined the problem or cause. their guess is that there was a shortage, or problems with the tipm (totally integrated power modules) and they also have not been able to start the vehicle. *tr

Been having this issue for a few months now and it only seems to get worse. first started out only having to try once or twice to get it to crank and now i have to try around three to four times. this morning was the worst it has ever been. and once it finally cranked i had all kinds of lights lit up. brake, fcw off, check engine, blind spot detectors were disabled and stayed on as well as my traction control being turned off and my abs light. when i started to drive i realized on top of all those things my speedometer was also not working and said i was at 0. i have also had my alarm go off in the middle of the night for no reason. this issue is really starting to get worse and worse and i fear i will end up stranded somewhere or worse end up in a wreck due to my car shutting off, and if i get in a wreck i don't even know if my airbags will deploy! very disappointed in dodge/chrysler. i am not going to spend my hard earned money to replace these parts when i was sold a faulty car from the beginning. they need to get this recall going and have plenty of these items in stock so everyone won't have to wait months to have this replaced! this is ridiculous! *tr

While driving 65 mph on a highway, my durango citadel stalled in traffic, almost creating a horrible accident. *tr

Vehicle would not start, would start then it would shut off within a few seconds of being on, this would be repeated several times before the vehicle would stay on and we could drive it. sometimes it would be fine for the rest of the day, other times it would be a continued problem throughout the same day. this has been ongoing since the first incident back in april 2014 . we notified the dealer the problem still existed, but they did not find a solution. we informed the dealer of problems with the tipm module and that we felt this was the problem, the dealer denied this was the problem and said that the battery was the problem. we are extremely concerned that the fuel line relay remains active and engaged while the vehicle is standing, this could be potentially life threatening if it were to be rear ended or hit by a moving vehicle. we are concerned that our children, anyone in the vehicle could be seriously injured or killed if this were to happen. with hundreds of complaints from consumers with chrysler/dodge vehicles experiencing the very same problem and with a national back order on the very part that needs fixing, we find it unconscionable that there hasn't been a recall!! *tr

2011 dodge durango w/5.7 liter engine stalled as i was turning onto the freeway on ramp. pulled over and started right back up. thought it was a fluke or i hit something. stalling occurred again several times while slowing down and making turns. happen once while my wife and daughter were going to store. she will not drive the car anymore. went in for repairs several times with no real conclusion or repair being done. finally went in after one of the stalls and by then the recall was coming out and the tipm and some wiring was replaced. thought it was repaired when over the weekend it happened again as i was slowing for a stop sign with my wife & granddaughter in the car, then to me again 2 days later. we happen to live in a rural area so there is not a lot of traffic, thankfully. it is in dealership now (second week) and they are saying it needs new sparkplugs (which it does) but there is no way a engine should stall due to old sparkplugs. it's a disaster waiting to happen to anyone driving one of these. everything up till this tune-up has been covered under warranty. it has stalled a total of around 8 times and all while slowing down and has been in dealership on and off for about a month total. *tr

Vehicle had problems starting earlier in the day. aprox 3am neighbors knocked on our windows saying it was on fire. fire dept put fire out which started in engine compartment. total loss. *tr

Tipm failure. vehicle will not start. dodge refuses any assistance with repair of over $1200. class action lawsuit by [xxx] has been started. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

While driving 35 mph the battery light illuminated, the dashboard lights started going on and off, and the windshield wipers activated. the car then lost all power, acceleration, and power steering. the car was towed to my mechanic who diagnosed a failed alternator. after the alternator was replaced, the car still would not function properly. the car then had to be towed to the nearest dealer who diagnosed a powertrain control module failure(pcm). the pcm was on backorder but part was received 1 week later. the pcm had to be replaced and reprogrammed. dodge refuses to take responsibility for the alternator that failed due to the faulty pcm. *tr

I was the extremely proud owner of a 2011 dodge durango. by far the best vehicle i have ever owned. on january 11, 2014 while on our way home with our (2) children, we were heading down a mountain coming into a turn. it was foggy that night and unsure if there was ice on the road i was driving a maximum speed of 20 miles an hour. i drive this road every day, as i have for the past 25 years. when i started to apply my brakes, they locked up/grabbed at which point we started to gain speed and went directly into a guard rail ultimately totaling my vehicle. i thank all that is good in this world that no one was seriously injured, but extremely terrified and thankful that we were not going any faster. this was the worst night of my life as we stood in the middle of the night a long the road waiting for help. the psp did not show up for about 2 hours and once the tow truck got there we had to wait even longer. i have to ask myself if knowing about the possibility of brake corrosion may have prevented this accident. i know vehicles are replaceable, but as i said this was the best vehicle that i have ever had and i miss it to this day. *tr

Vehicle has difficulty starting and will just continue to crank but not start. it takes several tries to get it to start. it seems to be the tipm module. *tr

2011 dodge durango. consumer writes in regards to the totally integrated power module( tipm) recall notice. consumer has previous complaint with different vehicle listed in artemis. *smd the consumer paid for the repair on 12/17/13 *jb

The vehicle would not start. the engine would turn over but there was either no fuel or ignition spark. continued to try to start the vehicle but refused to start. after about 6 - 8 minutes of trying, it started. the vehicle started every time after that but the next morning it refused to start. again after 6 - 8 minutes of trying, it started and started each time for the rest of the day. this repeated itself each day. the dealer diagnosed it as the "totally integrated control module" failed. *tr

Vehicle having issues cranking, takes awhile to get it started, stalls out while driving. *tr

Tipm was replaced and vehicle started to do the same similar things, however, this time it locked my 9 yr. old daughter in the vehicle with it running and the key fob was in the vehicle. she had to unbuckle and let me in. the electrical system still has a mind of its own, stalls in road at different speeds, also while driving it acts like the engine is shutting off then it comes back, and continues this procedure a few times until it finally comes back to life. 4low has not properly worked ever, and is a danger when in an emergency situation, and you need it. they say they have redesigned the 4low, evidentially there are problems with it. the dealership, sheets, says there's nothing wrong with the part again.vehicle starts and dies, stalls in road, acts like it's going to stall and comes back, controls inside vehicle do whatever they want to do when they want to. front signal light keeps blowing, and will not take a bulb, it blows them out every time, so when blinker is turned on the fog lights flash up front, like hazard flashers. the back passenger bulb has been replaced many times, and for now they are the only signals working, except for the ones on the mirrors. fuel pump stays on sometimes after vehicle is shut off. basically the vehicle is still a danger to anyone inside it, and to anyone on the road, due to the fact that it can cause an accident at any given time. the vehicle locked up in 4low/tow-haul mode, and then the entire transmission locked up. had to come home approx. 1-2 miles at a very low speed, with hazard lights on, and then had to coast in driveway because the transmission had no gears, and locked up. dodge really needs to recall this. if they designed this vehicle correctly the first time none of the maintenance would be necessary, and we would not have had to call dodge so many times. if the problem was not recurring the issue would be resolved. *tr

Vehicle would hesitate to start, after several tries it would start. on 11/11/13 when the cruise control was set it accelerated by itself. i was trying to start it on 11/12/13 and 11/13/13, when it finally started it accelerated to 4 1/2 rpm, so drove it to the dealership and i was told it was the tipm, which isnt available, but there are parts to correct the problem. one part would be available in 4 business days and the wiring part won't be available until 12/24/2013 estimated. this id such an inconvenience! *tr

Having problems with push start button and remote start with keyfob.....at times car cranks but it doesn't turn on. have to try many times before it turns on. *tr

The vehicle failed to start. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle sporadically stalls without warning. suv was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the totally integrated power module needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle is at dealership without an eta on repair. part is on back order. vehicle has 36800 miles. *tr

Incident date start: 11/02/2013. the vehicle would not start. the engine would turn over but there was either no fuel or ignition spark. continued to try to start the vehicle but refused to start. after about 6 to 8 minutes of trying it started. the vehicle started every time after that but the next morning it refused to start. again after 6 to 8 minutes of trying, it started and started each time for the rest of the day. this repeated itself each day. the dealer diagnosed it as the "totally integrated control module" failed. *tr
